FB update issues in wifi

Anyone notice that Facebook will not update thru wifi at certain times of day ?
.... usually late afternoon - early evening.
I will be in the FB app and 'force' an update. The little circle thing keeps spinning and never updates. If I turn off wifi and do the same thing, it updates right away.
Other time of day, I see no difference in the update process.

You might make sure you have the latest update.  While still buggy, it is worlds better than previous ones.

There are countless posts about this.  There's a problem at Apple's end and has been so for several days.
However, I have no trouble updating using itunes on my computer and later syncing to my device.

I did the 5.1.1 update over wifi, had update issues, then updated on Itunes no problem, now my phone continues to freeze and restart, any suggestions on how to correct this - thank you

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Has any of this been tried?

  • IOS 7.1 update problem. Wifi disabled, no longer works. Disappointed with apple response

I have several IOS devices and updated each of them to Apple's release of IOS 7.1.
Unfortunately my iPhone 4s did not update successfully. It was affected by the widely reported issue regarding WiFi being disabled permanently. After the update to IOS 7.1, wifi is no longer an accessible option on the IPhone 4s.
After doing some online research and identifying this as a common problem, I tried some of the suggestions available online such as resetting settings and restoring from backup. None of these suggestions worked.
I brought the iPhone 4s to the apple store at the Rideau Center in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and spoke to one of the employees. He stated that it was not an apple issue and that it was a problem with my phone that would cost $200 to resolve. He said that it was not a problem related to the ios 7.1 update and that it was a "coincidence" that it happened at the same time as the update to ios 7. 1 and was probably an issue with the wifi chip.
It is surprising to me that applying an update recommended by apple and using the iPhone 4s in the manner in which it was designed (using wifi) would cause this basic function (wifi) to cease to function.
Wifi is an essential part of my day to day use of this device. I am appalled that apple is denying the problem and has no resolution for it.
If anyone else this problem, please go to your nearest apple store and let this forum know your experience in getting the issue resolved.

Somewhere in there, is there a question for us, your fellow users in these user to user support forums?

  • Why is iOS 8.2 not updating on iPhone 5S?  It got me to Agree and nothing happens.  Am doing the update via a Wifi connection.

    Hello,
Why is iOS 8.2 not updating on iPhone 5S?  It got the user to Agree to the Terms and Conditions but nothing happens.  The user is doing the update via a Wifi connection.  Current OS version on the device is 8.1.3.  User did a hard reboot of the device and still the same result.  Not tried using iTunes as a workaround as we want to know why it's not updating via a Wifi connection.  Storage space available is 9G.
If you know of someone who is experiencing the same issue, please let me know the fix.  Thank you.
    Christina

    1. I do not know if this will help you or not. In researching this issue with my wife's iPhone 5c 8GB, the most common answer you will get is to adjust this or that setting, and disable this or that App. These at best are only a band-aide solution at all. The best reply I got was from a Verizon Rep that stated "By design, iPhones do turn off WiFi when they go dormant. So if a download is in progress, or information is being back-up wirelessly and the phone goes dormant, it will switch to use cellular data if it is left on". Afterwards, I discovered the exact same information here on the Apple Support Forum to support this statement.
    2. Later onward, I read that if you keep your iPhone connected to a power source, it will prevent it from going dormant. In which case, this will prevent the iPhone from turning off the WiFi, and keep it connected to the WiFi. So far, this has help the most in controlling the amount of data usage being used, by my wife's iPhone.

  • Has anyone called about the 1st Gen Update issue?

I was just wondering if anyone has actually called Apple about the 3.1.3 Update issue with the 1st gen iTouches. I don't want to waste my time and call when they might just respond with "there's no current solution". My iPod has been bricked on that screen with the "plug in the USB cord" symbol for a few days. Help!

My wife had the same problem with 1st gen 32gb Touch. She uses a pc based laptop with Vista OS. Couldn't get past the Apple logo even when trying to reset. I plugged into my Mac tonight, and for the heck of it, reset the iPod using the on/off button and home screen button. It now would appear in my iTunes and allowed me to reset. It is starting from scratch again (as she doesn't appreciate my play list), but at least it is fully operational again.
Have seen where others state they can't restore. May be able to using a Mac. Food for thoughts anyway. Hope this helps.

Is it worth 900 dollars for a smartphone that has so many issues ? After 3 updates? After 1 month? I wasted 2 gb of mobile internet cause of ios 8.
    And battery is terrible.

same here, iphone 6 plus 64 gb.
additionally in 5 ghz networks the wifi connection is very slow or  there is no data transfer possible ( the wifi icon is already there and in a good status) other devices hasn't any problems in that network

  • IOS 7 (7.1.2) Update disabled my wifi ***?? HELP

So I foolishly only have my backups in the iCloud I just did the update on my 4S and the wifi became disabled. So I restored my device to the latest version as there is no other choice. 7.1.2 screwed me. So even now my wifi is now disabled - so what does that mean???
I\ll tell you. It means I can't restore anything from my iCloud. I'm absolutely screwed. The option isn't even available at the login screen. When I restore the device and setup again as a new device. The wifi is available for a matter of minutes and as soon as it joins the network it becomes disabled so I can't select it again.
I have to restore and it just repeats. This update has messed me up. HELP:.
Any ideas??? Its not the phone as it was working fine up until the second I updated. My wife's phone hasn't done the update so she is fine.

    Hi ,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you cannot use your Wi-Fi after the latest update to your iPhone 4s. I know you have already done some great troubleshooting by restoring with iTunes but the Wi-Fi becomes unavailable very quickly after you set it up. Go ahead and set up the iPhone so you can get into the Setting and then follow the steps provided in the attached article.
iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1559
         Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Restart your iOS device.
Make sure that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
Make sure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.
If you complete all of these steps and still are not able to access the Wi-Fi, it may be necessary to follow the link at the bottom of the page and contact Apple Support.
    Have a great day,
    -Joe

  • Macbook Pro Retina issues with Wifi Speeds

I have one of the new Macbook Pro 15" Retina models and have been having issues with Wifi Speeds.  Apple has replaced the computer but have the same issue with the new one.  When doing a side-by-side comparison with older Macbook Pros and PC's I'm seeing around a 10 megabytes per second difference.  Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

So an update on what I've found.  After testing two different MBP Retna's basically hourly for 4 weeks I found a few interesting things, but ultimately resolved my issue.  The first thing I found consistently between both MBP Retina's both on my network and in the Apple store on their network was the first thunderbolt port closes to the screen is slower than if you try to use the LAN cable adapter on the second port. I saw about 10 GBps between the two ports.  The second thing i found was these new MBP Retina's aren't really compatible with older Apple networking technology. I have a single band Airport Express and a single band Time Capsule.  Using either router they only worked on the 2.4 5Ghz setting and even with that the speeds constantly fluxuated. Most times I got between 2 - 10 GBps.  After hours of troubleshooting it was recommended to update either my Time Capsule or Airport Express to one of the newer dual bands, which I did.  After purchasing and setting up a new dual band Airport Express and spliting the networks to have one band constantly on the 2.4 5Ghz setting and the other set to automatic both with differing network id's this solved my problem.  I now consistently see download speeds of around 35GBps and upload around 6GBps.  So connecting the dots and drawing logical conclusion, these new MBP Retinas are really only compatible with newer dual band Time Capsules or Airports.  Even though my single band was also set to 2.4 5Ghz, the same as the dedicated network used now on my dual band Airport Express, this MBP Retina had issues maintaining WiFi speeds.

  • What benefits are there to iOS 6 update on a "wifi only" iPad 3?

I am so glad I did a little research first before following through with an the iOS 6 update on my 5 day old 64 GB iPad 3 +wifi. So far, I don't have any confidence there is any improvement on a "wifi only unit", even Siri falls short of expectations in comparison to the basic dictation software already included in iOS 5.1.1- and I am afraid to loose the excellent dictation software. Additionally, it appears the iOS6 update could cause my wifi to become inoperable. Not a risk I am willing to take after dishing out 850.00 of hard earned money to have my iPad deemed useless and becoming frustrated.
Until, there is an actual benefit or improvement to the current iOS for a "wifi only" unit I see no reason to change to iOS 6, unless of course there are some improvements in updating on a wifi only unit that I am not aware of? I really wanted to update but too worried after reading the trouble people are having. Can someone advise what benefits there are in updating to iOS 6 on a "wifi only" new ipad3? I am not sold on Maps (turn by turn doesn't work for wifi), or on Siri to make the change.
Can someone tell me what benefits there are to updating the new iPad3 which is wifi only?

Nobody here will convince since you have already made up your own mind. That's fine. It's your choice. If you aren't comfortable updating the iOS - don't do it.
I have a WiFi only new iPad and I have never had any issues at all - with anything concerning WiFi connections or networks - as long as the network was dependable. I am using my personal MIFI hotspot right now and it works great, here are the features that iOS will provide for you If you decide to make the update.

  • .902 vs .905 Update 4G and WIFI side by side comparison

As many Verizon Bionic users have experienced, the .905 update has caused some major problems with connectivity to 4G and WIFI. The past week I have been agonizing over this, as my GFs Bionic has not experienced any of the issues I have been with my Bionic phone:
    Poor WIFI signal
    No 4G connection
Slow loading of webpages with standard browser, Firefox, etc. (5-7 minutes for Google, Facebook Mobile, Yahoo Mobile, etc.)
Unable to load Facebook or other web based social applications.
Dropped calls, missed texts, and general data connection issues.
After reading on other forums, and here at Verizon regarding the .905 update issues customers are reporting, I decided to run a few side-by-side tests of each of our Bionic phones. Low and behold, my GFs Bionic would get great reception to our WIFI router, 4G, and surf normally...JUST LIKE MINE DID UNTIL RESCENTLY.
I tested both phones side-by-side in the same locations throughout our apartment in San Francisco, with results that I could reproduce over and over(at least 10 tests, including reboot of my phone.
Her phone is still running the .902 version, and mine the .905. It seems aparent that the .905 update has caused the issues that everyone is experiencing. I am unsure why her Boinic has not updated to .905 yet, but the performance of the .902 Bionic phone is overwhelmingly superior to my phone, the .905.
The .902 Boinic phone would connect, full bars WIFI from over 20ft away from our 802.11BGN router, while the .905 phone would only get full bars when less then 2ft from the router. I tested this at a local coffeeshop we frequent as well this afternoon, with the same results. The .905 Bionic phone would not connect successfully to standard web pages, Facebook, or other social networks with browsers, or the apps. Load times were in exccess of 5+ minutes, if it connected at all. Again, NO PROBLEMS were experienced with the .902 Bionic phone.
In addition, the .905 phone was unable to create a Yahoo account from the Accounts menu, throwing a "Unable to create account, please try again later." error after factory resetting. The .902 phone continues to load Yahoo contacts, and accounts with no issues.
Verizon support really needs to listen to their Bionic customers, and at least, offer a flash update to uninstall the .905 update, and re-flash back to .902. Without this fix, customers may be forced to pay a $100-$299 warranty replacement or insurance replacement fee to obtain a refurbished Droid Razr or other phone that has not been discontinued(if your lucky, and not sent another .905 Bionic). And yes, you read that correctly, Verizon employees at 2 locations have informed me that the Bionic is no longer supported, as the phone is no longer sold in new condition, and the contract with Motorola for this model has been cancelled.
Whether these statements are true, your guess is as good as mine, but one thing rings true from testing:
In a side by side comparison of the exact same Bionic models, running the .902 vs .905, the only phone to successfully and reliably connect to either 4G, WIFI, or ANY data based service, was the .902.
Please, please can Verizon offer us a Verizon supported flash utility to get us back to functional, running, and happily surfing Verizon Bionic .902 customers?
It's the obvious band-aid we need!
*I have over 10 years experience in software and hardware Quality Assurance Engineering.

    This is good work.
Personally, rather than confront the useless Verizon bureaucracy or hack my phone back to .902 I'm just going to wait and see if ICS solves all of this.  (As has been mentioned elsewhere.)
I am confused and disappointed that the Bionic is being sunset so fast. They should at least expedite our discounted upgrade when they pull stuff like this.

  • Issues with WiFi connection to Deskjet 3545

    Hi,
I have number of issues with WiFi connection to my new Deskjet 3545 AIO:
    1. Printer is not able to get IP address automatically from home WiFi router (all other devices get IP with no problem). Using WPS allow printer to register in network but after switching off, WPS setting is not stored, so I have to do it again. This I was able to solve with manual entering of IP address, netwrok mask, DNS and gateway address.
    2. Official HP software installed from HP site was able to find printer for 3dattempt, and it started to work. But after a while, "HP utility" program loose connection to printer,  so I can not see any parameters, and I get "can not find printerä message when start to to print. After a some time (minutes to hours), whithout any action from my side, connection to printer seems to be restored, so I can see printer parameters in "HP utility" and printing is started.
    3.  Official HP software installed from HP site on PC (Windows 7) is not able to find printer on WiFi at all, works only with USB.
All this is disaponinting and unexpected, as my office HP LaserJet Pro 400 Color works perfect.

    Hi @DmiBro,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you are having some wireless issues with your HP Deskjet 3545 to your Mac OS X 10.10 and Windows 7 computers. I am sorry to hear this, but I am happy to help!

Tips for troubleshooting wireless connection issues
The following tips can help you troubleshoot and avoid wireless connectivity issues. You can try these tips separately or in combination to get a successful wireless signal.
Move the printer and the computer closer to the router, but no closer than 6 ft (1.8 m). Wireless signals can be weaker at greater distances between the printer and the router.
If you are experiencing an intermittent wireless connection, try restarting your router. Consult your router manufacturer, Internet service provider, or network administrator for instructions on how to restart the router.
Remove any metal objects between the printer, the computer, and the router. Objects such as refrigerators, microwaves, or metal bookcases can interfere with wireless transmission.
Move any device that emits radio signals, such as microwaves and cordless telephones, farther away from the printer. Such devices can interfere with wireless signals.
I would also recommend this website, HP Wireless Printing Center - Troubleshooting Issues.
Hope this information is helpful, and have a nice day!

  • Why can't we get a straight answer from Apple about updater issues?

Why are there thousands and thousands of posts from people all having the same issue? We try to update IPod software using latest updater, and it causes IPod to no longer be recognized. All we want is someone from Apple to FIX THE PROBLEM! Yet all we get are refferals to complicated articles that never seem to work for at least half the people. Clearly it is a problem with these updaters. WHY IS APPLE NOT FIXING THIS ISSUE? Can anyone give me a straight answer!?

    Hi Wolf,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    "thousands and thousands of posts"
There are roughly 10,300 thread with 50,000 posts in the iPod Nano forum, and there are probably another 500,000 who don't even know it exists. I don't there there has been a thousand posts on the updater issue. It may seem like thousands upon thousands, but don't forget; you're at an Apple Support Forum.
"All we want is someone from Apple to FIX THE PROBLEM!thousands and thousands of posts"
There's no need to "shout". I don't think Apple is going to hear you from shouting in a user to user forum. Nor will you probably get a answer (here) from Apple for the same reason. I have a -------- (straight) answer for you. I don't know what's going on specifically (no one really knows in this forum because they are all users. Anyone who would know won't say), but I can assure you that Apple isn't ignoring the issue. They are the quickest to respond to any problem that comes their way. If you would like to get Apple's attention, I don't suggest ranting and raving in the iPod user to user forum. I suggest submitting polite feedback to Apple here.
