Fbpager with fluxbox

I am facing a strange problem with fbpager, where ever i change desktop by clicking on it, the windows are places such that the tabs on the top hides, but when i change desktop by my mouse wheel the tabs stays visible.
Is any one else facing this problem:(

  • Harsh fonts in Opera Menus with Fluxbox

    Using Opera 10.10 with Fluxbox 1.1. Fonts in actual web pages are nice but the Opera menu fonts are very harsh, bright, don't appear to be antialiased and clash with other fonts. This is not the case with Firefox. Here is a screenshot:

    I have tried "opera:config" changes to XFT fonts and other changes- to no effect. I have ensured the hsync and vertfresh for my monitor is correc t and I have used nvidia-settings to ensure antialiasing is on. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    I previously did not have this problem when using Gnome, but I removed Gnome as I am now using an older, slower computer, and besides, I prefer fluxbox...

    GNOME is built on the GTK2 toolkit; KDE on QT, so, no. QT is a KDE thing.

  • Having Issues with High CPU Usage with fluxbox & pekwm

    Greetings,
    I have searched for this issue and it seems that something similar has happened in the past with an old xorg, and it seems that someone is having a similar issue that they can point to kde as being the culrpit. However in my case, this is a fresh install and is not using any kde libs. Please allow me to explain the issue.
    The power supply on my main computer finally gave out, and being incredibly poor at the moment I can not yet replace it. So, I pull out an older computer that I had once set up for my kids, but took it away from them when they were abusing it. I always make backup dvds and such monthly so I didn't have to worry about any lose of data, however I desired to keep my larger hard drives from my main computer. After testing to ensure that the hard drives were fine, I did some minor surgery, and did a fresh install of arch linux onto my back up computer. Since I prefer pekwm, I installed pekwm as my wm of choice, and outfitted it quickly with mpd+sonata, firefox, pcmanfm, and tint2. Then I rebooted into my pekwm 'desktop'.
    It was running sluggish. Firefox was easily maxing the cpu up and beyond 100% and it felt ten times worse than any heavy DE I used in the past. I checked to make sure I had the right video driver installed. As this computer runs a 64MB nVidia GeForce2 MX with TV out video card, I searched nvidia's page and the arch wiki, noting that the driver needed is nvidia-96xx. Well I had already suspected that during install, and thus had installed such driver. I double checked my xorg.config and it has the right driver listed.
    So I checked out some lighter browsers. I tried both Midori and Iron (which is similar to Chrome but without google spyware or whatever). Well both run better than firefox, Midori being the lightest one, but Iron quickly being my favorite. Still, the problem remained. Moving windows caused cpu spikes, opening more than one tab, or more than one program caused cpu spikes and the computer to slow down and sputter, freezing at times.
    So I tried out another wm, fluxbos, which is another of my favorites. Seemed somewhat better but only fractionally, which I consider odd because pekwm has always seemed snappier than fluxbox to me in the past. Running lxtask (still mouse dependent, sorry lol), I was able to take note of the following...

    So what I am wanting help with is finding the solution to the cpu usage so that I can use this computer at least until I can afford a new power supply or whatever. I am open to any good suggestions, though I must state I am not really interested in tiling wm's at the moment. I am just not a true minimalist.

    in your .fluxbox/init  this will probably help a bit if it is currently true,

  • Irritating problem with Fluxbox and pressing Ctrl + F3

    I've used the Ctrl + F1, F2, F3 or F4 keys to switch between workspaces in Fluxbox but occasionally I'll press Ctrl + F3 and it will just log me out. This is highly annoying. Is there some way I can disable this functionality at all? I switch between workspaces regularly and it is highly annoying to have to reopen everything again after being logged out and it means I lose my train of thought with my work.
    Can anyone offer a solution to this problem at all? Thanks.

    It just happened again when I was using Spotify.
    I had the following apps open:
    Chromium - Workspace 1
    Thunderbird - Workspace 2
    KVirc - Workspace 3
    Spotify - Workspace 4
    When in Workspace 4 I pressed Ctrl + F3 as normal and it logged me out. So I logged back in and opened Spotify in Workspace 4 again and tried to get it to log out again and no matter what combination of keys and Workspace changes I did I couldn't get it to log me out again. I'm stumped.
    Edit: I think the problem is KVirc. Everytime I use it this happens. I'll see if it happens again without it running for a couple of days (it just happened when using the arrows on the tool bar as well so it has nothing to do with the key combination). It would be annoying if this was the case as I quite like KVirc as a my IRC client.
    Edit 2: Switched over to XChat. Will see if the problem persists.

  • Ctrl-Alt-Backspace issue with Fluxbox and SLiM

    Hi folks :)
    I'm pretty new to Arch, had a few attempts at installing it in the past but wasn't quite ready and so decided to expand my Linux knowledge a little more, first. Well, I've done that and now I'm having another go, and things are going quite well. However, I have one minor problem. In ~/.xinitrc, I have the line 'exec startfluxbox' to start Fluxbox and do everything that is contained within the ever-so-handy 'startfluxbox' file. That works perfectly. However, if I restart X by pressing the Ctrl-Alt-Backspace combination, I'm sent to the command line rather than SLiM. However, if I replace 'exec startfluxbox' with 'exec fluxbox' it works fine and brings me straight back to the SLiM login window. Of course, I then can't make use of the 'startfluxbox' file.
    Could anybody shed some light on why this might be happening? I know it's more than likely going to be something simple that I've missed, but any help would be appreciated. :)

    And using fluxbox instead of startfluxbox still works? Strange.
    I had the same problem as well with slim and Xfce (sometimes SLiM would respawn after some minutes if I logged out normally), and ended up just giving up on SLiM.
    I'll give it a try with my openbox-setup (should be similar enough to the fluxbox way).
    What happens if you log out of your session instead of killing the xserver?
    You could always give some other login manager a try, kdm/gdm or qingy if you want things lite.
    [edit: I tried it, SLiM works fine with openbox-session. It needs rather a lot of time to start up after booting but that might have something to do with me having backgrounded daemons rather indiscriminately.
    Probably a stupid idea, but have you tried waiting a bit? As I've mentioned, sometimes SLiM took a few minutes to respawn due to some bug or other.

  • [SOLVED] FreeNX with fluxbox/openbox/xfce4 WM's

    Hello all,
    There are many posts here and elsewhere with people having trouble with FreeNX when using the *box and xfce window managers.  I have found out how to make them work very easily and thought I would post here instead of replying to multiple old threads.
    For the *box users I assume you are starting your X session by running startx, which parses .xinitrc which contains openbox or fluxbox commands.  The question is what commands do you use in the FreeNX client 'custom' setting to get it to work.  As most people have found, trying 'startx' or 'openbox-session' does not appear to work, and you either get a black screen, or it quits straight away.
    Openbox/Fluxbox
    Assuming you have FreeNX installed and have sorted out the keys/sshd stuff and can connect to the server, then:-
    -  Go to /opt/NX/etc and edit the file node.conf with your favourite text editor (as root).
    -  Find the setting #USER_X_STARTUP_SCRIPT about 3/4 of the way down.
    -  Remove the '#' from the front of the line and replace whatever is after the equal sign with .xinitrc
    USER_X_STARTUP_SCRIPT=.xinitrc
    Save file and close.  Thats it for the server. 
    Now on the client end:-
    -  Configure your connection and under Desktop select Custom from the drop-down that contains KDE etc.
    -  Click on Settings and in the first group select the middle option Run the default X client script on server
    -  In the second group select New virtual desktop
    Click ok and try to connect.  Hopefully it should just bring up your desktop and start working.  I think this works for Xfce4 aswell if your .xinitrc contains the startxfce4 command.

    Since Xfce4 has its own startup script I also tried out another way and it worked fine.  All I did was edit the node.conf file again and replace the startkde command with startxfce4, and then just select kde from the dropdown on the connection dialog.
    /opt/NX/etc/node.conf

    #COMMAND_START_KDE=startkde
    with
    COMMAND_START_KDE=startxfce4
    Remember to remove the # symbol at the start of the line.

  • Weird resizing bug with Fluxbox + Xcompmgr.

    I'm using fluxbox and xcompmgr today, trying it out again after a while with openbox. Every time I resize a window, it seems like xcompmgr is failing to resize the dropshadow it leaves behind it, or other times it will just show the contents of the window in the space they used to occupy.

  • Fluxbox crashes if called with exec startfluxbox [SOLVED]

    Hello, I've got a problem with fluxbox, you see, whenever I try to get it started editing my .xinitrc and adding "exec startfluxbox" it just crashes over and over, hoewever if I put "exec fluxbox" all starts ok.
    What can I do in order to prevent it from crashing?
    There was something in the wiki about it but now it's just broken.

    Also, if I use a login manager, it just keeps crashing and crashing.

    Solved, this was the problem.
    "When you start X, either via 'startx' or by your display manager, it runs startfluxbox which ends up running this ~/.fluxbox/startup script. When this script reaches its end, the X server will shut down (or you will return to your login manager). This is why by default you must have exec fluxbox as the final line in your script, or in the latter case, the wait $fbpid line, both of which will suspend the script's execution until fluxbox exits. This ensures the X server keeps running for as long as fluxbox itself is running, which is usually what you want - Your session will be really short otherwise "

  • Fluxbox freezes with FreeNX

    Whenever starting an NX session with fluxbox the session freezes. In the very first moment of the session I still can open the fluxbox-menu with right click. Terminating the NX session does not terminate fluxbox. Fluxbox remains using 100% CPU and must be removed with kill -sigkill ...

    Tunes froze when I upgraded to 10.2.1.1 after recently acquiring a 3rd generation Nano to replace my 1st generation that wouldn't reset. It's all working now after uninstalling 10.2.1.1 and then installing 10.1.2. I had to delete "iTunes Library.itl" for iTunes to load. I then had add my folder to get back all my Poscasts and then re-subscribe to my relevant podcasts. After this I upgraded back to 10.2.1.1 and everything is sweet . So effectively I rebuilt my "iTunes Library.itl" file - I suspect that this file became corrupted either during the iTunes upgrade and/or introducing mt new iPod Nano and/or something else.

    Been using rxvt-unicode for a while and I really like it, and I loved how it looked in Openbox, the transparency worked wonderfully. But now that I've moved to Fluxbox, the transparency doesn't work at all. I've googled and searched a few forums, but everything I've tried fails. my Xdefaults are tweaked nicely, and I can certainly modify the appearance of urxvt, EXCEPT the transparency.
    Is this a fluke of Fluxbox? Or am I just missing something?

    Not quite what I'm looking for, but you're right.. With Fluxbox, you can make entire windows transparent. Which is fine, but I'm nitpicky. What I liked about Urxvt in Openbox, was that The terminal itself was transparent, while the window decoration stayed opaque. Thank you, though.

    You most certainly do, and I should have mentioned that I'm running XCompMGR quite smoothly with drop shadows and all, I'm just having a small issue with one app.

  • [Solved] Xorg + fluxbox first keystroke lost

    Hi,
    Recently I've noticed a pretty strange thing. I'm running Arch with fluxbox on it and when I change workspaces my first key press after change is lost (ex. in doesn't show in urxvt). I'm using xorg-server 1.12.1-2, fluxbox 1.3.2-1, vanilla kernel 3.4.0-rc4 (64bit). It's an asus k52j laptop if it helps. The only thing I've noticed is the xev output after the workspace change.
    That's the first keystroke

    Changing driver from evdev (the one with the missing first key stroke) to kbd, results in completly useless keyboard outputing strange characters. In console (runlevel 3), not a terminal in X ,everything works fine so I suppose it's not my kernel misconfiguration. Any other ideas?

  • [SOLVED] Dropbox and the fluxbox Slit

    I have a minor problem concerning the Dropbox icon in the Slit.
    I'm currently starting Dropbox by using the dropboxd-userspace daemon, but it doesn't create an icon in the Slit of fluxbox (although it's confirmed to be running). In order to get it to create an icon in the Slit I have to manually (re)start the dropboxd-userspace daemon.
    So, how do I get it to automatically add an icon to the Slit?
    Also, is it possible to get a list of the wiki articles not translated to a certain language? I'm planning on translating them into my native language (Swedish) but a list of the untranslated articles would help to make sure that I don't miss any crucial articles.

    By slit you mean notification area?
    Myself I start Dropbox by running dropboxd and nothing else. I guess you could just put it in your .xinitrc and have it startup autmatically with Fluxbox.

  • Can't start fluxbox

    I thought I'd give fluxbox a try, but I can't get it running. Other WMs work fine. It exits with :
    fluxbox: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `CXXABI_1.3.1' not found (required by fluxbox)
    "fluxbox -info" returns the same line.
    Anyone got any idea of how I can run this down because I'm stumped.

    nope, not on testing. I might just stick with Openbox. I was only trying it out of curiousity anway. I'm not curious enough to start rebuilding packages though. Thanks anyway.

  • [Fluxbox?] Missing right-clicks

    Hi everyone,
    I recently installed Arch with Fluxbox only, because sadly my laptop can't run KDE as well as my desktop machine. I finally finished setting everything up as I needed it. Then this problem came up:
    Some right clicks are not detected. At first the problem mostly occured in Eclipse, but I encountered it in other (gtk+) programs as well. When it happens I can't right-click for a moment or two (not sure about left-click) and left-clicking on a menu only selects the item in the menubar while the menu itself doesn't appear.
    So it's either a problem with Eclipse or the weird mix of gtk2/gtk3 programs.
    Has anyone encountered anything similar? My google-fu was insufficient.
    My setup is as follows:
    HP Mini 311 (I'm pretty certain it's not a touchpad problem, though). Fluxbox, rox-filer, thunar, eclipse 3.6, etc.

    Actually u should have all those columns in the Select which u want to Update . Its not compulsary that u take all the columns of that table .
    Like if u want to Update Name and Age for some Employee Table Column then .

  • 100% CPU usage with plasma

    Hi!
    Since the last update to KDE 4.2.2 plasma causes all of the PCs that run with Archlinux and KDE to raise my CPU usage to 100%.
    It's always caused by plasma and did not happen before with version 4.2.1
    Does anyone have the same experience? How can I fix this?
    It's very annoying especially on the Laptops and Netbooks I'm running with KDE....
    Or should I file a bug report or am I the only one experiencing this?

    Sorry for the thread necromancy, but I have the same problem.
    At first there was no problems. I had installed kdemod to test it after spending long time with fluxbox and gtk apps. At that time there were no problems. For whatever reason I decided to reinstall Arch and put only KDEmod on it.
    Hellooo plasma hogging the cpu. I have no calendar plasmoid. I have no plasmoids on the desktop at all. There are couple of them on the taskbar:
    kmenu (or whatever it is called), stasks, systray, pager, digital clock.
    The digital clock has a calendar when I click it. Testing with no digital clock plasmoid right now.
    A full clean reinstall of kde mod didn't help, either. Did anyone found the source of the hogging?
