Fc-cache as root and normal user?

Hi, just a quick question should "fc-cache -fv" be run as root and normal everyday user or just ran as root?

Thanks fwojciec, just worked that out seconds before thanks for the reply though man.
It worked too, strange that the whole folder just disappeared.

  • Difference between admin and normal user

    Hi Community,
    how does the user right management works when an admin account is used? In Mac OSX an admin isn't really an admin account  because the user become prompted for the (admin) user password again if he require higher privileges. Microsoft implemented since Windows Vista a similar technique, an administrator account works with a normal user token and if higher privileges are needed, the user will get the UAC dialog to grant higher privileges. This is done by providing the user an admin token temporarily.
    Is this the same way Mac OSX works or is this done by a different technique?

    For further reading and improving your knowledge security beyond "root" and "sudo", there are Apple's security guides and the US NSA/CIA operating system security configuration guides.  Both of these resources are a little dated, but the underpinnings of the operating system and its security have not changed significantly; what you learn will still be valid, though there can be some features of newer releases (such as the profile manager, the lack of installed Java) that might be useful.
    Thanks a lot. The link  to the Mac OS security configuration guide seems to be broken but I took a short look into the Linux guide and this is also very interesting, even if I'm not using Redhat but Debian.

I remember this on earlier days in Linux when the actual directory (.) was at the end of the $PATH variable. This could end in the same issue after all.

    Nope ... this is the error message. It does not work.

  • Distinguishing Admin and Normal User in Content Database.

    Hi,
    I am new to Content Database. I am developing an application using the Content DB API's. Can we distinguish whether the logged user is Normal User or Admin User( User with Admin priviliges) with CDB API's.
    If so please let me know how it is possible. If it possible with any API please mention the API.
    This is very urgent for me. Thanks in advance.
    Thank You,
    Ravikumar.

    Hi Ravi,
    simple alternative would be:
    try{
    //rey to switch to admin mode
    sessionManager.setSessionMode(FdkConstants.SESSION_MODE_DOMAIN_ADMINISTRATION, null);
    sop("U are an Admin user");
    }catch(FdkException ex){
    sop("U are not an Admin user");
    }

  • Can anyone help regarding the Admin Login page and Normal User Page.

    Hi Friends,
    I have worked on normal login page it has been worked well. But now i have to create the Admin login page. That means, I have written the code in the following way.
    public String userLogin_action() {
            // TODO: Process the button click action. Return value is a navigation
            // case name where null will return to the same page.
            com.sun.sql.rowset.CachedRowSetXImpl crs = new com.sun.sql.rowset.CachedRowSetXImpl();
            String Name =  getUserName().getText().toString();
            String password =  getUserPwd().getText().toString();
             try {
                crs.setDataSourceName("java:comp/env/jdbc/Employee");
                crs.setCommand("SELECT * FROM srni.UserTable");
                crs.setTableName("UserTable");
                crs.execute();
                crs.beforeFirst();
                while(crs.next()){
                info("Cursor is been moving");
                boolean ok = crs.getBoolean("Admin");
                info("Value of ok:" + ok);
                String Username = (String) crs.getObject("UserName");
                info("Usernames are:" + Username + Name);
                if(Username.equals(Name)&&(ok)){
                info("Login Successfull");
                java.util.Date Date = new java.util.Date();
                info(" Admin Logged on :" + Date);
                return "toUserPage";
                info("Login Failed or Admin doesn't exist");
            catch (Exception e) {
                error("Login Failed : " + e.getMessage());
            } finally {
                crs.close();
            return null;
        }You can see there that i have used the boolean type of value for verifying wheter the user is admin or not. If the admin type of column in database is true then it must allow the admin to certain page. Otherwise it must not redirect. So i have used this logic. When i am checking it is showing everything true,but it is not redirecting and it is saying that login failed. Please try the above code with a sample database table and verify it. You can see the output like this.
    Cursor is been moving
    Value of ok:true
    Usernames are: srinu srinu //here it must not go to next cursor,because srinu has been identified, but it is not behaving like that.
    Cursor is been moving
    Value of ok:false
    Usernames are: Chandu srinu
    Cursor is been moving
    Value of ok:false
    Usernames are: kirank srinu
    Login Failed or Admin doesn't exist The above output describes that it is moving the cursor from first row to the last row and checking all the usernames i n each row with the given username, and it is also checking wheter it is admin or not. Currently i have three rows so it is moving three times. It is retreiving every value correctly but in comparing it is not comparing. What to do.
    Please help me out from this problem.
    Thanking You in Advance.

    The buttons are all created using the same library object (but MC), except for the code you have in the revised file does not call on that for the con button.
    You have it calling on something with a linkage name of "con", which a quick check tells me doesn't exist--so it is undefined in the code when you try to use it.  I found this by using trace(newConBut._x); after its _x value was assigned, as I mentioned you should try.   So the first thing you want to do is change the following line from...
    var newConBut = _root.attachMovie("con", "conbut", _root.getNextHighestDepth());
    To
    var newConBut = _root.attachMovie("but", "conbut", _root.getNextHighestDepth());
    so that it uses the but MC that serves that purpose in the library.  Then you want to correct the _x assignment of the buttons to what I think you had earlier...
    newConBut._x = 650-newConBut._width;
    newRecBut._x = newConBut._x-newRecBut._width;
    Here is a picture of what those changes do (note, without the XML file I had to finagle things just to work, so the biutton labels aren't what they will be)...

  • [Solved] xf86-video-ati low fps under normal user, fine under root

    Hi again. someone must had played HL1. So did I, but I had to run it under root to get the sufficient performance. I tried both OpenGL and DirectX drivers.
    At 640x480 the FPS is ~5. At 1024x768 it's "1".
    after some digging I found that glxinfo produces different output for me and for root:
    # glxinfo
    OpenGL vendor string: Mesa Project
    OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer
    # sudo glxinfo
    OpenGL vendor string: DRI R300 Project
    OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R300 20060815 x86/MMX/SSE2 TCL

  • How to create a new bundle of service and import it as normal user.

    Hi,
    I have created a service.
    Now am able to import and enable the service.
    I have placed my xml file under
    /var/svc/manifest/site
    The service name is
    <service
    name='site/newservice'
    I have imported the service as root user.
    <exec_method type='method' name='start' exec='/tmp/new/method/newservice start' timeout_seconds='30' />
    This service is not able to execute the operation which I have mentioned above. The following error is thrown in log file.
    Error: User 'root' is not the owner of '/tmp/new/method'
    So I tried to import the service as normal user, the following error is thrown.
    svccfg import /var/svc/manifest/site/newservice.xml
    svccfg: Could not create temporary service "TEMP/site/newservice" (permission de nied).
    svccfg: Import of /var/svc/manifest/site/newservice.xml failed. Progress:
    svccfg: Service "site/newservice": not reached.
    svccfg: Instance "newservice": not reached.
    Please help me to solve this issue.
    I thought instead of placing the service in default location,Why cant we create a new service of bundle and place the service there.
    Please help to solve this issue by suggesting some solution or how to create a new bundle of service and import it as normal user.

  • [SOLVED] Dropbox - can't run as normal user, but as root

    I have problems with running dropbox as normal user. I installed dropbox from AUR. It is successfully installed. But when I type in terminal dropboxd I get:
    WARNING: Cannot write to "/home/USERNAME/.dropbox/dropbox.pid"
    I can run dropboxd as root from terminal, but that way default Dropbox folder is created with root permissions in my /home directory. Is there some way to run dropbox as normal user and having Dropbox folder with permissions for my user?

    Thanks toad and pickboy87 for advices. It's my fault, and lack of concetration after long hours of staring at screen.
    Solution is this:
    sudo chown -R USERNAME /home/USERNAME/.dropbox
    Btw. Ubuntu do all automatically, with Dropbox install, all I need is to follow on screen directions, and next, next.:lol:
    edit:
    everything works out of the box with dropbox install on other Arch machine i tried, probably I messed something with configuration somewhere before.

  • ALSA device busy for normal user (not root) after systemd [resolved]

    I'm not able to get audio when using a normal user (device or resource busy) but root works just fine. I think I've messed something up since I just removed consolekit and switched to systemd.
    Here's what my .xinitrc looks like
    #!/bin/sh
    # ~/.xinitrc
    # Executed by startx (run your window manager from here)
    if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
    for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
    [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
    done
    unset f
    fi
    #exec gnome-session
    #exec startkde
    #exec startxfce4
    #exec enlightenment_start
    # ...or the Window Manager of your choice
    #exec ck-launch-session startlxde
    exec dbus-launch startlxde
    I use LightDM via systemd service and LXDE. My devices in /dev/snd aren't actually busy. Nobody is using them and they work fine for root.
    Where else should I be looking for trouble? Anyone have a similar experience?

  • I've configured arch as root user, this gives problems as normal user

    Hi!
    I've installed arch and openbox on my computer. Since "startx" only would start if I was in root
    I've been configuring the whole system as root user. When I now try to start "startx" as normal
    user it works and openbox starts up too... the problem is that all my configurations disappear.
    Openbox, bmpanel, nitrogen etc. goes back to default settings. I guess it has something to do with
    the rights my normal user has, but since I'm still kinda noob I really don't know what to do.
    Anyone know what the problem might be?
    Thanks!

    Now it seems the user rights on my computer are kinda... wrong. Since I've set up most of my system from root user
    the user rights for my normal user are a bit off. All files in ~/ I have full access to, but other files can't even be
    accessed using sudo. (I get something like "$USER don't have access to this file as root)
    In ubuntu this was set up from the get go so I guess there's a kind of default user rights scheme that I can use as a
    starting point and then configure it for my own use?? What files and folders should my user normally have access to,
    what files and folders when using sudo, and what files and folders shouldn't $USER have access to at all?
    Thanks.

    Not only would it be safe but less expensive as well.  The tray loaders are deemed to be the most reliable.  Apple does not support Blueray so avoid that.

  • Broken link on copy and paste from normal user to required upper privilege user

    Hi,
    I've encountered an error that is probably coming from environment variables.
    When I copy %document%\something\ from a normal user to %programs% where it require administrator privilege, i'm prompted with a credential window ( so far so good ) until it prompt me with an other window that says: "i don't find %document%\something\"
    witch is normal since the administrator have different environment variable and certainly no "something" folder under his documents.
    hope it helps, N.Satsuki.

    Hi,
    This should be privilege problem, as normal user desn't have write permission of Program files folder in C drive.
    If you doubt this is enviroment variable problem, it would be better to switch your account to Administrator account to test if it had same problem.

    1. This is where your main Profile folder is located:
    C:\Documents and Settings\myname\'''Application Data'''\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default
    2. Secondary location:
    C:\Documents and Settings\myname\'''Local Settings\Application Data'''\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default
    No, don't delete that folder or the files in it. Those files would be re-created the next time you open Firefox. Those files are necessary.
    3. Firefox put that file there, so it knows its' there. Delete it and Firefox will download that data all over again, and put it back in that folder.
    4. Bookmarks are stored in the '''places.sqlite''' file in the main Profile folder, since the Firefox 3 versions.
    Some of those files have been moved around from one major version of Firefox to the next to improve various aspects of "performance" and also to minimize file size for automated personal data backup purposes & for roaming Profiles in a large network setting. The urlclassifier file can get to be quite large, which could really screw-up roaming Profiles on a network server.
