FCE 2.0 with Core Duo

when starting FCE 2.0 on my MacBook Pro the error message Software requires specific hardware - AGP graphic appears. Is there any update available to overcome this message? Do I have to upgrade to FCE 4.0?

Just press the "esc" key every time you launch FCE and get that message. The program should then open normally.
Really you should upgrade to FCE 3.5 or FCE 4 which are designed for Intel Macs.

  • I have  a old 2006 modle macbook 15 inch the  A1150 i believe with core duo processor can change or replace that with a intel core duo 2 processor ?

    it,s a 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo
    memory 2 GB 533 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
is there some kind of way i can  upgrade that to a Intel Core Duo 2 processor
or is it  just a batle i cant win ?

You should be able to get a used or repaired MacBook 13/15-inch core2duo 2.0+GHz near
$350 or so, in working condition with some kind of limited warranty or guaranty. Companies
like macsales, wegenermedia, powerbookmedic, powermax and others offer previously
owned Macs that are not current models. Older, to vintage or obsolete; those who some-
times have the better deal on those also can repair most all Macs and have parts.
The effort to swap out a logic board (and then what? the
other parts likely won't match) isn't hardly worth the effort.
You may be able to find an early MacBook (circa 2006 to 2010 era) that needs minor work,
and troubleshoot/repair it with a DIY guide online... But that can be a gamble if you mess
up things that were not wrong in the first place, while learning on the job. It could cost plenty.
Some companies can sell you used parts, no guarantees on matching an incorrect logic
board with a diffferent build model spec computer's other original configuration. You'd do
better if you found someone selling their old MacBook Core2Duo, nearby, & could see it run.
    I have a MacBook 13-inch coreduo 1.83GHz first-edition; an early core2duo won't do much
more than the coreduo. Snow Leopard is better than Lion in several ways; if you have older
software you already own that works, from the PowerPC era -- that can save you money.
Good luck in any event, & happy computing!

  • Difference between Intel Core Duo and Intel Core 2 Duo

I bought my MBP in November of last year, before the update on the Pros. However, it says about the new Pros that they have Intel Core 2 Duo processors, which are faster than the Intel Core Duos of previous MBPs. I know I bought mine before they updated them, but my "About This Mac" says that mine has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. So, did they update the processors before this latest update, or do have one of the new Macbooks somehow, or what happened? And, is there any difference between my 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, and a 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo?

Only the original Intel machines came with Core Duo processors. The principal difference is that Core Duos are 32-bit and Core 2 Duos are 64-bit processors. There were also increases in available clock speed, L2 cache, and frontside bus speed. The first models only addressed 2 GBs of RAM. Later models had a different memory controller that enabled 3 GBs of user accessible RAM (4 GBs installed) and even later models such as yours had a memory controller that enabled accessing 4 GBs of RAM (4 GBs installed.)
The first Intel Minis came with a Core Solo processor which had only one core instead of two.

  • Intel Core Duo MacBook 802.11n

I have a MacBook with Core duo. It can not recieve 802.11n, but I have seen a few different options for upgrading. One of those includes buying a Mac Pro Wireless Kit from apple and installing the card into the MacBook. I found this on the HardMac site. I have talked to almost everyone, but no one can give me a consistent answer. I know if I install the card myself the warranty will be voided no matter what, but if I have an authorized Mac Tech installs it for me will it void the warranty? The other thing is that if an authorized Mac Tech installs most things it will not void the warranty, but my only questionm is, if the Mac Pro card will fit into the MacBook and work while not voiding the warranty?

    Hi haysman
From what I see you will not void your warranty if your macbook being repair by authorized service center and broken part has been replaced with similar one (within apple specs), not with modified one.
So altered the macbook specs might void your warranty.
To make it clear, consult your apple store, and your authorized technician, and asked your technician that can he or she guarantee that the warranty still good after they di that procedure.
And Core duo macbook age is almost a year old now, and if you don't have apple care, then you just wait couple more weeks and you can operate yours without worry about warranty.
I also seen one site that provide the kit and installation is also included, I'll post it later if I can come accross.
    Good Luck.

  • Speedstepping for Core Duo (_both_ cores)?

    Hiya,
I got an ThinkPad T60 with Core Duo. Is this supported by the speedstepping tools (cpufreqd, cpufrequtils, cpudyn). I tried it some days ago and got the impression that this tools support only one cpu/core.
Is this true? Core Duo users, how do you manage this?
    Bye

So I'm just wondering about the standard arch kernel.
    [root@alinux ~]# modprobe -l|grep cpufreq_
    /lib/modules/2.6.18-ARCH/kernel/drivers/cpufreq/cpufreq_powersave.ko
    /lib/modules/2.6.18-ARCH/kernel/drivers/cpufreq/cpufreq_stats.ko
    /lib/modules/2.6.18-ARCH/kernel/drivers/cpufreq/cpufreq_userspace.ko
    /lib/modules/2.6.18-ARCH/kernel/drivers/cpufreq/cpufreq_ondemand.ko
    /lib/modules/2.6.18-ARCH/kernel/drivers/cpufreq/cpufreq_conservative.ko
The performance governow seems to be built in? And if it's build in and there are no cpufreq tools on my system, the laptop will run with performance?
So how do you set the right governor?
    A
    echo "ondemand" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
    echo "ondemand" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_governor
in /etc/rc.local would do it for both cores?
PS.: By the way, sometimes the fan is (loud) on, although CPU works on 1000Mhz (lowest)...what could I do beyond this cpu stuff to get the laptop more quiet?

FCE 3.5 runs great on my Mini with 1 gig of RAM. It will run even better with two. No problems other than if you want to open your projects in Final Cut Pro (as I need to do) you need FCP 5.1. Anything earlier won't open it.

  • Clean Installation Of FCE 3.5 UPGRADE On Core Duo iMac?

In a previous post Scott told me that when I get a new Core Duo iMac I will be able to install the UPGRADE version of FCE 3.5 straight away without needing to install the old FCE 3 first. (I will need of course to use my FCE3 serial number).
I have just contacted the UK Apple Store and was told that I would probably need to install FCE3 first! However, when I challenged him the rep wasn't too certain!
Does anyone definitely know whether I can just go ahead and install from the UPGRADE DVDs without needing my original FCE3 DVDs - apart from the serial number?
(Apologies to Scott for harbouring doubts but my middle name should have been Thomas!)

    What VC are you using?
I use VMWare Player (free) and use it to create virtual clients as needed.  Typically the virtual clients are "clean installs" from ISOs.  VMWare has it so well mechanized that there's not much to it.
It's pretty quick and easy to install Player and give it a try.  Another advantage to that approach is that there's only a single OS at the top level and backups can capture the whole mess w/out having to deal with 2 or 3 different OSs and their partitions.

  • I have a Mac mini OSX 10.4.11 Intel Core Duo, 512mb, 1.83 GHz with iTunes 9.0.3. What steps do I need to take to get my music library to my iPad. I dont think I meet the requirements to just upgrad to snow leopard and/or lion. I want the music I paid for

I have a Mac mini OS X 10.4.11, intel core duo processor (not core 2 duo), with 512 mb and 1.83 GHz processor.  I only have version 9.0.3 of iTunes because it hasn't let me go higher, which I believe is because of the operating system.  I want to get my purchased music from the Mac mini to a different computer (that has the latest version of iTunes) and also my iPad.  The Mac mini does not meet the requirements listed to simply upgrade to snow leopard or lion. As far as I can tell.  Forgive me if I am lacking here...this is new to me.  What can I do to get the music transferred.  I have invested alot of money over the past few years on all this music that I should be able to transfer.  Thank you in advance if you can help me.

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

Of course I can't throw it away since I get a message it's part of the sytem. I can show package contents and throw those away, but evidently not a good idea!!

  • I am trying to install bootcamp with windows xp professional on my macbook core duo. This is my first mac and i just purchased it. The disk will partition but when i try to start the installer a white screen appears then a folder with a ? in it appears

I just recently purchased this macbook. The optical drive was faulty, i opened it up and rubbed alcohol on the lens and that didnt work. I connected an old ide dvd rw drive in a 3.5 enclosure and it seems to work like a charm. I installed snow leopard with it so i know that it is in complete working order. I also upgraded the ram so that should not be an issue either. This is a first generation macbook 1.1 with the core duo processor. I just want to install my xp professional operating system onto this unit. I have the original xp professional disk with service pack 2, not a burned iso. When i try to launch the windows installer the dvd drive fires up and it seems like its attempting to launch windows then the screen goes from bright white to a folder with a question mark on it. From there nothing happens. Is there something i can do or that i am missing here?

Your problem is not Boot Camp, in fact, is your optical drive. Win XP requires indeed sp2, but also the internal drive, does not work from external optical drive.
For other possible tricks, please use the appropriate Boot Camp forum, not here. Mac OS X may be installed from both external and internal optical drive and/or internal/external partition of a disk, any disk. Windows is not so generous.

  • How do I upgrade OS X 10.5.8 on my iMac with Intel duo core processor

I have an iMac 24" with 2,16 Ghz Intel Core Duo processor and 2Gb 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM running on OS X 10.5.8 to Lion?
I know I have to upgrade first to snowleopard???
If so SnowLeopard is not available in the iCentres etc.
    What to do??
    Brgds,
    Nils

Your iMac is a Core 2 Duo not a Core Duo according to this http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/imac-core-2-duo-2.16-24-inch-sp ecs.html
Which is good since the specifications for OSX Lion require a Core 2 Duo as minimum processor:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
The road to OSX Lion requires you to have OSX Snow Leopard before which can be bought from Apples Online Store http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA but is not avaiable as a download.
After installation of OSX Snow Leopard and installation of neccessary updates to it you can then use the Mac App Store to buy OSX Lion and install it.
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/how-to-buy/
For OSX Lion an upgrade of your RAM to 4GB might be advisable.

  • Which O/S upgrade is recommended for a MAC Book Pro17 with Intel Core Duo 2.16 GHz

Which O/S upgrade is recommended for a MAC Book Pro17 with Intel Core Duo 2.16 GHz
    I am using os x 10.4.11.
Do I need to upgrade to 10.5.xx? Will this platform suport 10.6.xx? If 10.6 will work do I need to install 10.5 first?
    Thanks...

Hi. Your computer can be upgraded to either Leopard 10.5 or Snow Leopard 10.6. 10.6 will be much easier to find and will be less expensive. Leopard is not required prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard.
