FCE 3.5 - Filter Bars in Timeline

Are they really in FCE 3.5 ?
According to the Help they should be visible when clicking the "Clip Keyframe" button on the bottom left of the timeline.
In fact that button is still named "Clip Overlays" as in FCE 3.0 and behaves exactly as in 3.0: no filter bar, just opacity and audio levels.
Or I'm missing something ?
Thanks
Piero

No. It's not there. Error in the documentation.

  • Green Filter Bar in Timeline and Exporting to QT

I have a sequence that I am exporting to a Self Contained QT File but was wondering if the green filter indicator needed to be rendered first before exporting? Will that have any impact on the export if I don't render?

When you export, all necessary processing will take place.

  • How can I delete the filter bar in TB?

In earlier versions of TB you could hide the filter bar. How can I do this in the new version? I do not want it to show.
    Thanks~

From the Menu Bar select View-Toolbars and uncheck it.
No menu bar? Press the alt key.
Using the AppMenu button hover over Options until the toolbar choices appear and uncheck it.

  • Custom Metadata and the Filter Bar

A couple of month ago this was posted by another member/LR user:
I'm running Lightroom 2.3 on a WinXP system.  I'm trying to use the library filter mechanism to display a subset of images based upon the values of some custom metadata fields.
All of the values for a given field are correctly displayed in the filter's drop-down list, but if I select one that contains embedded blanks, I'll get an empty set ("No photos in selected folder").  Take a look at the attached "embedded_blanks" screen shot.  I should see one image, but instead don't see any.  (BTW, an embedded underscore ['_'] will cause the same behavior, so there are probably other characters as well.)
There are also problems if I select the "No Value" option (which should show be the items for which the metadata hasn't been set).  The attached "no_value" screen shot shows an example of this.  Instead of showing 1 image, Lightroom is showing 4 -- all of the ones that do have a value!
Has anyone seen this before?  I don't know where to check to see if this is a known problem.
One of the answers from a community expert confirmed it was a known problem, but not widely known.  I have thus far installed v2.5 and this is still not working as it should - pretty much the same problem as above.  I have created (and filled) certain thematic custom metadata fields specifically so I would be able to use them for the filter bar/Smart Collections and of course am a bit disappointed.  The good news is that my limited testing shows that v3b has indeed corrected this issue YEAH!
In the meantime, does anyone know if this was corrected in v2.6?  It appears from the release notes that this as for camera updates only so I was not planning on installing unless somehow this problem was addressed.
    Thanks!
    Jeff

I don't think so. But it does appear to be fixed in the LR3Beta as you say.

  • Filter bar not to be reset on folder change

If I set up search criteria using the filter bar and then click on a different folder in the folder panel, the filter bar is reset. I would like to be able to control this behaviour so that the search criteria remain in place.

To be honest, the most common use for me would be when I've entered some filter criteria and then realised that I have a specific folder selected, rather than All Photographs. Currently, after clicking All Photographs, I have to re-enter the search criteria.
That said, I could see situations where I would want enter search criteria and then click through individual folders, keeping the search criteria in place, and in effect using the folder name as an additional criterion.
So, my preference would be to have it always keep the criteria in place unless specifically reset by the user. But I don't really mind how it's implemented. If most people like it the way it is, with the criteria being removed on on each click of a new folder, then providing a "previous" button, as you suggest, would be fine by me.

  • Can someone explain the FCE "Levels" Video Filter to me?

    Hi,
I need help with the FCE "Levels" Video Filter - I cannot find any documentation anywhere which explains precisely what this filter does and how to use it properly (Googling 'levels "input tolerance" "final cut express"' yields no results!!).
There are five sliders (Input, Input Tolerance, Gamma, Output and Output Tolerance) but playing with them, it's not obvious what they do or how they compare with the Photoshop "Levels" filter for still images.
In particular, I would like to map settings on a Photoshop "Levels" filter to settings on an FCE "Levels" Filter to achieve the exact same results in terms of adjusting the underlying images.
If this can't be done exactly, does anyone know of an FCE Filter which replicates the Photoshop Levels Filter.
    Can anyone help? Thanks.

It's not a very useful filter, and is not directly comparable to the Photoshop Levels filter. There is no histogram, which I consider essential.
Input & Input Tolerance lighten the image (they work together)
    Gamma adjusts midtones
Output & Output Tolerance darken the image (they work together)
Problem is, you have to drop the sliders off their default settings to get them to work at all. Start by dropping the Input and/or Output sliders to 20. Then adjust the companion Tolerance sliders down to see the effect.
I think you'll have more luck with the Color Corrector filter, which has sliders for Whites, Mids, Blacks & Saturation. Among other things, you will find the numeric levels sliders more comparable to the PS Levels controls.

  • Filter bar no longer displays metadata

For the last few days the filter bar in LR5 is not showing metadata. It says loading when you click on the metadata tab for a split second, but then nothing appears.
I've shutdown LR and my PC several times.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

  • LR2 Filter Bar - Way to improve: a detailed analysis.

I like the functionality and the ease of use of the new filter bar in comparison with the old Metadata Browser, but
    * positioning it on the "sacred" space of the work area,
    * doubling of the refine filters in the filter bar and filmstrip bar,
    * unavailability of it in the other modules and even in loupe view and, therefore, lack of any indication whether you have an active filter and what is being filtered
is upsetting me to the point that I'd rather have the old cumbersome mega-hierarchical Metadata Browser.
I think Adobe must stick to a clear design principle here:
b The user must be clearly aware about the set of the images he is working on, regardless of the active module or view mode.
This leads us to the following: The filter affects the contents of the filmstrip. And the filmstrip being the only bridge between LR's modules, must host all the filters or, at least, clearly inform us about their status.
Yes, I understand that you can't poke the whole former metadata browser into the filmstrip bar, but this is not even necessary. On a day to day basis, the most often used filter criteria are flags, ratings and labels. They should be always available and visible on the filmstrip bar as they were before. However, the power of metadata filter may be hidden behind a filmstrip button, that indicates the status of the metadata filter, and can only be shown in those rare situations when you need to filter by lens, location etc. The filter itself will pop-up, or slide-out when the button is pressed. Because it is rare when one uses such specific filtration, that won't bother us cluttering the workarea. I know, it sounds like the Aperture way. Yes, except that aperture got it wrong hiding the vital rating and flag filter in a drop-down box. As for the text search box, I think it's not a problem to fit it in the filmstrip, next to other filter controls.
And, voila! We have the old clean uncluttered interface, the new power and ease of use and the most important peace of mind, because we always know where we are and what we see the Breadcrumbs text show the source of image as selected on the left-hand panel, and the filter shows, well, the filter status.
P.S. If Adobe also gives and option to always show filmstrip bar, even when the filmstrip itself is hidden, I'll be the happiest person on this forum. :)

I have some real issues with the filter pane the way it is now as well. It's a pseudo-customized column view, which takes up more space and loses some things (hierarchy in geography, for one) that the old metadata browser had. Plus there's now a duplication of the ability to filter by color or rating... one on the film strip (which I used a lot in v.1 and really liked), and one above in the new "metadata browser."
I prefer the old way... especially because now the left panel is largely empty (with moving the keywords to the right, and removing the metadata browser). The engineers obviously prefer the new way... but it's got a number of things which don't seem right to me. It absolutely needs refinement, if nothing else.

  • FCE 4 Problem: Color bar thru the Viewer

I just upgraded to FCE4 and have found two annoyances already....
1)I get a horizontal color bar running thru the middle of the image in the viewer. It's mostly an aqua color but there are shades of other colors in it (which vary from image to image). Is this some sort of new feature or is something wrong here. I sure can't see (or imagine) any purpose to it. I did two installs -- on an iMac and a MacBook Pro -- and the problem is only showing up on the iMac.
    2) The controls seem very different... In 3.5 you could right click on a clip to cut it from the timeline. Can't do that now. Are the controls really that different from 3.0 & 3.5, or is this another glitch?
As long as I'm asking questions... Anyone got a good text/manual to recommend? It's feeling like I need to re-learn how to use FCE. I wouldn't have expected an upgrade to be so different from the earlier version (eg, right clicking to cut and paste clips should have stayed unchanged, in my book).
Thanks for any help you care to offer..

    Tom,
Thanks for your response. Here's a screenshot...
    http://bp3.blogger.com/_GjFJqLYOsHk/SFkdJVij1wI/AAAAAAAAAB4/THLT-fZ41v4/s1600-h/ Picture+1.png
I've also deleted FCE4 from the HD (also deleting the plist file and the project file) and reinstalled it; after importing the same files, I get the same result. Other things I've noticed...
    1) If I import the same files into FCE4 on my MacBookPro I have no problem.
    2) Once I drop the file from the Viewer onto the timeline, and then re-open it in th Viewer from the timeline, the color bar is gone.
    3) The color bar is not showing up in the Canvas or the icons on the Timeline.
    4) If I import the same files into FCE 3.5.1, I have no problem. (BTW, I'm back to using 3.5.1 until I receive my copy of your book.)
So the imported files are not corrupt; the problem is somewhere else. Or maybe I'm just missing something obvious (well, it'd have to be less than obvious).
Thanks for any thoughts you may have,
    Seismo

  • Trim bar (on timeline bar) has disappeared so can't trim videos??

I know you can trim video's by tapping the trim bars at the end of the timeline bar in videos (/photos), allowing you to trim the start or end of the video's.
I did this on a couple of videos that i filmed on my iPad the other day.
But now this option has disappeared??
The timeline bar is still there but the trim bars (2 little bars you can tap and drag) have disappeared.
Does anyone know how I can get these back?
    Thanks

Close all apps in the Multitasking Drawer; Double Tap Home Button to open drawer, Swipe up on each app to close it. Repeat until all apps are closed, touch home screen.
Restart phone, hold both Home and Power/Sleep buttons down at the same time, continue to hold them down until the Apple Logo appears, Release both buttons and wait for phone to restart.
Check email app to see if bottom bar and new email icon have come back.
If not, delete the email account in settings and then add it back in again.
If mail still not working as it should, you may try doing a Reset All Settings reset in Settings => General => Reset => Reset All Settings.  You won't lose any data, music, apps, videos, pictures, etc.  But you will have to go back in and turn on or off any settings you changed on your phone because everything will be set back to factory defaults.

  • Audio bar; on timeline, snaps back

I want to move the sound level line; in the timeline, up a notch or two, and have successfully managed to do so, for 3 our of 6 of the clips.  The problem is that when I reach the 4th clip I can make the line move up, but it snaps right back down when I realease the mouse button.  That's never happened  before;  but I've never played that much with the option before.
The work-around was to Group all the segments and increase the gain.
What's the secret to changing all the levels, in all the clips, on the timeline?

If I reposition the audio level bar, on the audio timeline, it resets the level in the selected clip.
In the situation I describe I was able t move the bar up on the first three clips, but when I tried to move the bar on the fourth selected clip it snapped back to it's original position.
I don't understand why it stops working after three clips.

  • How do I apply a desaturation filter across entire timeline?

I'm wondering how to apply a desaturation filter across the entire timeline of a short film I've built without having to drag and drop the filter into every clip (there are many). Is it as simple as copy/paste, because I tried that and it didn't seem to work.
Thanks in advance for your answers.

A couple of ways to do it:
    1.  Apply the filter to one clip and adjust as needed.  Copy the clip (Command c).  Select (highlight) all other clips to which you want to apply the filter, right-click on one and select "Paste Attributes."  When the Paste Attributes window opens, click the Filters box on the Video side.
    2. Apply the filter to one clip then adjust as needed in the Viewer window's Filter tab.  In the Timeline, select (highlight) all other clips to which you want to apply the filter.  Drag the filter from the clip in the Viewer to the highlighted clips in the Timeline.

  • FCE - Slide Show - Vertical Bars

    Hello All,
I have been creating digital slide shows with FCE for quite a long time, and then exporting as a qt movie and then creating the final presentation in iDVD.
I think I must have changed a setting as now I am getting two vertical black bars on the left and the right....not sure how to fix this. I would like to get rid of them so I have full wide-screen.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Norm

It seems to me that the photos you are using are not widescreen, and this is why FCE is pillarboxing them in a widescreen canvas. In this case, try changing the sequence setting to something besides 16:9. The thing that gets me though is that you said you have used the same type of photos in widescreen format before, and they weren't pillarboxed. 720x480 is a 3:2 format, and thus if you try using it in a normal 4:3 canvas it might appear squished.
I'll continue looking into the problem, and hopefully someone else will have some ideas to weigh in as well. If worst comes to worst, you can always scale them up to fill the canvas.

  • Getting a general error message in FCE when putting .mov file onto timeline

Putting a .mov film onto the timeline above a moving image so we see the mov file playing in a reduced size in the background of whats going on ( a window). Don't know why this is happening but any advice would be appreciated!
We are really stuck so any help would be so appreciated!
    thanks.

Its converted to an mpeg4 file but i think it may be the fact it is running at 30fps as oppose to the rest of the project which is 25fps. When I try to put it on the timeline it gives me the general error and then the footage which was on below it on timeline no longer exists. Very strange.

  • Drill functionality on filter bar of Webi with BEx don't work

    Hi experts!
I'm with the same problem that other thread Drill Functionality not working. I'm working with webi and BEx on BO 4.0 SP5 Patch 2.
There is a fix prevision for this problem or a SAP note about this?

    Hi Gustavo,
As you can read from that thread, the feature you would like to have is extremely complex, there will  be some new capabilites with hierarchies in BI4.1 but I don't think this is among them.
    Thanks and regards,
    Simone
