FCE 3.5 sees no audio from an Mbox 2

I'm working with a 1Ghz dual CPU G4 with a fairly recent version of Tiger OSX that has FCE 3.5 and an Mbox 2 audio interface, connected to a powered USB hub.
I don't have the option of connecting the MBox 2 directly. The audio is coming tot he Mbox from a mixer board in the next room via spdif or XLR (can't recall which)
I'd like to use the FCE voice-over feature, but FCE see no signal coming out of the Mbox 2. The funny thing is that
1) FCE's VO menu lists the Mbox 2 on the list of sources you can select
2) Pro Tools LE sees the signal just fine on the same machine.
The simple obvious solution is to use PT LE, but I'm trying to make the workflow as easy as possible even though PT is the better tool.
As far as I can tell this G4 has no analog audio input.
How might I most simply and cheaply fix this problem?
Some people have suggested looking for new drivers for the Mbox 2 but I haven't been able to find any.

  • Audio from firewire interface not available to QT Broadcaster for streaming

We have two Mirror Door Power Mac G4's (Model PowerMac3,6) set up for originating streams.
One has a Lynx Studio L22 sound card in a PCI slot. QuickTime Broadcaster sees the audio from this card and we can originate streams fine.
The other computer has an M-Audio Firewire 410 Audio Interface connected by firewire. This interface is selected as the audio source in QuickTime Broadcaster. When we start broadcasting clients can see the stream, but there is no audio signal present in the stream.
Why is it different when using the external firewire audio interface? All else is the same between the computers. Both send streams to the same QTSS; both have identical RAM; both have the same CPU; both have no issue connecting to the QTSS.
    Thanks.

There is a description of a possible workaround at <http://homepage.mac.com/beryrinaldo/gbsf/>. It worked for me in principle, however, it has a significant delay. This does not allow you to monitor your track, e.g., using headphone. You also have to adjust the track after recording manually.
Another workaround would be to record a track using QuickTime Pro 7. QT lets you record directly from a DV camera via firewire. However, you still need to export as AIFF, import in GB, and adjust the track manually for every single recording.
It would be best to have a audio device (something like Soundflower) that can capture incomming signals from a DV camera directly and that is mentioned in the list of possible choices in GB's preferences.
Anyone out there who has seen something like that?
    Greetings,
    Claus

Try Mixing Down the audio before export.

  • Import audio from CD to FCE for soundtrack

I'm really very new to Mac and FCE and I just can't seem to get to grips with getting music from a CD into an FCE project to use as soundtrack.
I've read the manual and had a little technical support but I'm still not getting. I really do need it broken down into simple words and simple steps.
I had music in the timeline earlier but as soon as I ejected the CD it was useless, although I thought I had saved it on to the hard drive and into the project before ejecting.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Before using your audio track from a CD, you have copy it on your hard drive. A dedicated folder for that kind of media is a good idea.
Simply add a new folder in your documents folder, name it +external media+.
Double-click your CD icon to open it, and drag the desired file into your newly created folder.
    Eject the CD.
Now open your FCE project and drag the file from your +external media+ folder to the FCE browser (or use the import command).
Use this file in your sequence.
Keep this file on your +external media+ folder as long as you keep your FCE project.

  • Rip Audio From Final Cut Express

Is it possible to rip audio from an MPEG Video in Final Cut Express and save a copy of JUST the audio file as .mp3? I know you can do this with QT Pro, but I'm going to be getting Final Cut Express down the road and I need to be able to do this. So I will just get FCE now if it can perform this function and not waste money on QT Pro.
    Thanks!
    A

Well, there's all kinds of flavors of 'MPEG Video' out there, knowing what you're using would help.
QuickTime Pro can do this, and it's not a waste of $20 to get it.
You can also use MPEG Streamclip to extract the audio to AIFF, then use iTunes to convert to MP3 if that's what you really want.

  • Take Audio from a Clip

    Hi all,
I'm very new to video but I've shot some video of a band and I want to improve the sound in Logic Pro (my comfort zone). How can I strip the audio from the video and save it so I can edit in Logic. The video is HDV
    Many thanks
    Steve

Export from FCE using QuickTime Conversion (File->Export->QuickTime Conversion). In the export window, select AIFF as the file format at 48khz, 16 bit stereo.

  • Removing Audio from clip

Ok, I just got FCE for X-mas and I am completely lost. I need to know how to remove the audio from the clip, and/or how to edit the audio seperately than the video.

    Hi John.
There are many ways. Probably the simplest is to highlight the audio in the timeline and press the Delete key.
However, if you are new to FCE you will have an extremely steep learning curve ahead of you and I would forget about making a serious film for at least a month!
You should get a simple step by step instruction book.
I can thoroughly recommend Tom Wolsky's book - "Final Cut Express 2 Editing Workshop".
It is very "user-friendly" and guides you easily through all the steps. You are told exactly what to do and why. It's the next best thing to having a tutor sitting alongside you.
Tom is also one of the main contributors to this forum, so is available should you have any problems.
Don't be put off by the FCE 2 name - it works for FCE HD just as well.
You can get it from Amazon. It is well worth the money and will save you from countless hours of frustration - which will almost certainly happen if you struggle on alone.

  • No audio from speakers or jack. Sound bar shows audio activity. All drivers updated. HP G62.

I cannot get audio from the speakers or audio jack. All drivers updated, realtek, BIOS F37.
There is activity on the windows sound bar (green level moves) when music is played, however no audio is executed.
HP Support Assistant software was installed, but no detection of the problem.
    No warranty since March 2011
I will deeply appreciate any support or guidance to solve this problem. Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi vc329,
Doesn't sound like encouraging news, though it is odd that the sound came back for a short while at least.  If you still haven't rebooted the PC since putting it to sleep and loosing the sound, then I would suggested going ahead and rebooting or even doing a full hard reset (power down, remove the AC adapter, remove the battery, hold down the power button for 20 seconds or so, then reconnect the AC power and Battery and boot up) to see if the sound can be recovered again.
If the sound still doesn't work, Check Device Manager to see if the sound driver still looks OK, make sure you are using the latest driver again (it looks like the latest driver is 6.10.6381.0), another option might also be to try the older driver that is still available from the site, or try recovering the original driver shipped on the PC.  The steps to do these things are covered in the document listed below, in Step 6 (Restoring the Audio Driver), Step 7 (Updating the Audio Driver), and Step 8 (Checking Device Manager):
No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 7)
If none of that seems to help, I'd recommend testing the hardware using Step 9 in that document.
If the online warranty check sees you as out of warranty, you may still be OK if you have the original proof of purchase (receipt) from wherever you purchased the PC, but you may have to provide it when calling HP for service if the sound can't be fixed.  If you are close to the end of warranty I'd recommend calling customer care for your area (I assume you are still in Asia) and validating the warranty with them as soon as possible just to make sure.
Although I am an HP Employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

  • Extract Audio from Video Clip

I want to extract the audio from a video clip and use it in another setting as an MP3, AVI, WAV -- or whatever. How do I do this in FCE?

Export a QuickTime movie and select Audio Only. You'll get an AIF file @48kHz. You can then convert to other formats in iTunes or other software.

  • Hearing Audio from placed background movie

I am trying to line up my audio from a FCP .mov file. When I play my movie...the video plays fine in LType but there is no audio that plays. Is there a setting Im missing? This has worked before for me where I can hear my audio adjust the graphics and all is well. Any help is appreciated!

What you probably want to do is,
    From within FCE/FCP/FCS is
    1. place timing markers within the sequence timeline.
    2. File->Export->For LiveType and include the appropriate markers.
From within LT is "Importing a Background Movie With Timing Markers" which is found on page 45 of the LT2.1.4 manual.
My $1.45 worth. Hope it helps, even though it maybe a different workflow to what you had in mind.

  • How Do I Transmit Audio from My 2008 MacBook Pro to My 2011 Samsung HDTV?

    Hello,
I'm trying to transmit audio from my 2008 late model MacBook Pro to my 2011 Samsung HDTV.  My MacBook's Model Identifier is MacBook Pro 4,1 (ancient, I know).  I purchased this DVI to HDMI cable which does a beautiful job of transmitting the video to my HDTV, but no audio (as advertised): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E8SY5Q/ref=oh_o02_s01_i00_details   HELP!!
    Thanks very much.

I figured it out!  I plugged in my 3.5MM auxillary cable I use to plug my iPhone into car stereo jacks from the headphones port on my MPB to the "PC/DVI Audio In" on the back of my Samsung HDTV and voila! It worked! No additional cables (other than these two). No upgrading OS.  Yay!
    Here's the auxillary cable:  http://www.amazon.com/AUDIO-3-5MM-JACK-AUXILIARY-CABLE/dp/B002Q3K0QS/ref=sr_1_1? ie=UTF8&qid=1330576344&sr=8-1
This looks like a great workaround to the MPB to HDTV audio problem!  Hopefully my geek status is still intact.  W00T!
When in doubt, try all the cables you have in all the different ports.  AV hasn't changed much over the years and you can often rig things to work with what you already have.  Yay for keeping cables out of landfills and repurposing!

  • FCE 4.0 won't capture from my canon zr950

hello everyone, and thanks for your time. i'm not sure if this is an issue with FCE/my computer, my camera or the firewire cable. i've captured footage with this computer and firewire cable before, but not with this camera (borrowing it from a friend). here's my issue:
when i go to capture footage, i get the spinning pinwheel of death. i let it run for over 20 minutes, and the capture screen never surfaced. it was just stuck. so i restarted the computer, and this time i did file -> capture before the camera was connected, to bring up the capture screen. after i did this, i connected the camera, and the same thing happened. on the camera screen, it says DV in, so the camera recognizes the connection. the computer knows something is attached, because as soon as i connect it i get the aforementioned spinning pinwheel, and when i disconnect the computer is once again able to function. any thoughts on what i should do? thanks again for your time!

Have you got the correct Easy Setup ......... FCE may need a different one from that used by your other cameras?

  • When I upload audio from itunes into my imovie project, it does not show all of the track?

Hi, I have opened a new project in imovie - I have uploaded 200 photos into the project to make a Comic Book movie!
this project is 7 mins and 8 seconds long - the exact length of the audio track that I want to play during the movie!
I have selected the music by clicking the musical note button in imovie, which open up my itunes library and displays the track I want to use that is 7 mins and 8 seconds long.
When I click and drag my MP3 audio from itunes into my imovie project, i only plays the first 5 mins & 33 seconds; leaving my project in silence for the final 1 min & 3 seconds????
I have not added markers, there are no fade ins or fade outs - only the first 5 min & 33 seconds or a 7 min & 8 seconds MP3 Audio track???
I have spent 10 hours trying to rectify this problem.......
can anyone help me with this problem

  • Delete unused audio from GB sessions from hard disk

I would like to clear the unused audio from many Garage Band sessions from my hard disk. When audio is recorded in GB where is it stored?
    Thanks
Mac OS X 10.4.11 MacBook 2 Ghz Intel Core duo
    Garage Band 3.0.4 (104.7)

Normally, GB does a pretty good housekeeping job with the audio files: If you are not using a recording at all in you project, it gets deleted next time you save your project. (That means: not using even a fraction of a second - otherwise the whole audio is kept, since GB's edits are non-destructive.)
Having said that - if you want to check, the audio recordings are in a folder inside the project package: ctrl-click the project in the Finder, select "show package content", and look inside the media folder. Be careful - deleting stuff from that folder that you think the project isn't using might confuse GB.

  • I have HDMI connection to the receiver and on to the TV - but no audio from my new Apple TV.  I have checked all connections and the video is xlnt.  Have also toggled thru every possible Dolby/Audio combination in settings.  Help!  Any suggestions?

I have an HDMI connection to the receiver and on to the TV - but there is non audio from my Apple TV.  Not for movies, music, YouTube etc.   I have checked all of the connections and the video is xlnt.  Have also toggled thru all possible Dolby/Audio combinations in settings.  Help!  Any suggestions?

    Hello again Parker -
The basic setup is Digital Cable Box, DVD Player, Denon Receiver/Amp and TV Monitor.  To that I added the Apple TV.  The Receiver only has two HDMI IN slots (one for cable and one for the DVD) and one out to the Monitor.
[I bought a switcher to toggle the DVD and the AppleTV back and forth but just disconnected the DVD to simplify when I ran in to trouble.]
    So now I have:
HDMI from the Cable Box to the Receiver
HDMI from the Apple TV to the Receiver (in the old DVD slot which always worked well)
HDMI from the Receiver to the Monitor
RCA's from the Receiver to the Subwoofer and the other speakers
In addition I have some backup connections:
S-Video, Optical Audio and L/R RCA's from the Cable Box to the Receiver
S-Video from the Receiver to the Monitor
    Wait - JUST FOUND IT!
By going thru the excercise to track all of the connections per your suggestion, I found an anomaly when I switched Receiver sockets for the HDMI links.  The video moved but the audio didn't.  Turns out the monitor was using the optical audio feed from the receiver.  So I disconnected the optical audio and the monitor automatically switched to the HDMI audio feed!   Looked promising...
So I first connected an optical audio feed from the ATV to the receiver - Audio!  Then I pulled it, but the audio didn't switch to the HDMI feed.  It stopped.  Would be OK if all I was going to use is the ATV, but I need the DVD player too and I can't use a switcher to toggle between them if I have to unplug the optical audio each time.
This is becoming a career!  Any suggestions?
    Will
