FCE 4 Installation

I upgraded to FCE4 from FCEHD. First, the look has not changed. The browser is still in the upper left.
Also, I thought the current project I'm working on would automatically transfer to FNC4. All my captured video is on a Lacie d2 Quadra external hard drive. Do I have to import all those hours of video from the external hard drive to FCE4? So far, I've only captured video. I have not done any editing.
Finally, when I tried to register FCE4, the "register" option was not active. So I clicked on "register later." Now I can't find it.

well, if the look hasn't changed, maybe it's because there are no issues with it. why would you wanna change if there are no problems and you have a great look and great versatility?
"the browser is still in the upper left... well, if you don't like it upper left make it upper right! you can change position, size, format on every window of the FCE.
for your last question, you dont need to import it all over again. simply go to file>open and open your old project...
cheers!

I have bought yesterday a version of FCE4 (a DVD) and I can't install FCE4, I have the following message "Install failed : run preflight script for Boris Calligraphy 2.1 Plugings."

    Thanks for your suggestions

  • FCE not loading after software reinstall on new iMac

I'm hoping someone can steer me in the right direction.
Earlier I had posted a question in the Live Type forum about getting some fonts back that I had from earlier versions of FCE, which seemed to be missing from my computer. At the time, FCE 4 was working fine, but some of the Live Type Fonts were no longer available.
I got a response stating that some fonts/effects that were available in FCE 3 are removed when FCE 4 is installed.
I followed the instructions in the in the response post which stated for me to use a FCE uninstaller (FCS Remover) that I downloaded and then ran to uninstall the FCE software.
I then followed the instructions to load FCE 3 and the two Live Type media discs first, THEN when I install FCE 4, I should DEselect the option to install Live Type from the FCE 4 install disc and just install FCE 4.
Now when I try to start FCE, I instantly get an error message stating "Final Cut Express quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent to Apple automatically." Below that, in the section labeled "Problem Details and System Configuration," there is this notation:
    "Dyld Error Message:
    Library not loaded:/library/Frameworks/ProFX.framework/Versions/A/ProFX
Referenced from:/Applications/Final Cut Express.app?Contents/MacOS/Final Cut Express"
Also, when I click the "Reopen" button, it does NOT start the FCE application nor do I get another error message.
I've tried going through the reinstallation carefully twice. The software runs fine after the FCE 3 installation, but the error occurs after the FCE 4 install. I've also tried restarting the computer and I've gone to the "Software Updates" to get the FCE 4.0.2 (?) update.
Any suggestions other than making an appointment at the Apple store will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Gary

I trashed preferences and repaired permissions, then I restarted the computer, but when I start up FCE, it instantly goes to the "Final Cut Express Quit Unexpectedly" message.
I thought if I had run the FCS Remover, I would have had a "clean" installation of the software (not needing the trashing of the preferences).
Could you give me some suggestion as to the order of the steps I should do to reinstall the software?
    For example
    Step 1 Trash Preferences
    Step 2 Run FCS Remover
    etc.
I did have FCE 4 running on this new iMac, but as I'd mentioned before it was missing some elements from Live Type. I haven't tried reinstalling the FCE 4 software WITH the Live Type option to install selected, so I don't know if that might solve the problem.
Should I reinstall FCE 4 with Live Type installation selected, then run FCS Remover to only remove the Live Type software, then reinstall Live Type from the FCE 3 disc only?

  • FCE 4 lost in a house fire,

how to recover? I have a new MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.5, cannot find a way to have FCE 4 de-authorized on the burned MacBook and moved to my new MacBook pro. Any help?

Final Cut Express (FCE) has never had an authorization / deauthorization process.  As long as you have the original installation DVD and serial number you can reinstall FCE on another Mac.
The FCE license permits you to install FCE on one desktop Mac + one portable Mac as long as you own both machines and do not use FCE on both simultaneously.  Although you are prompted to register FCE after installation, it is merely a registration, not an authorization.
If you actually have Final Cut Pro X (not FCE) that you purchased through the Mac App Store, you can just log into your store account and install FCPX on your new Mac.

  • Resale of FCE and registration

I've deleted FCE from my system, and am planning to sell it, which the license seems to allow. I bought FC Studio. Will the purchaser be able to register the used FCE after installation?
    MikeR

The new owner can install & use the software. There's no actual s/n registration involved. You and the new owner just have to live up to the legal requirements of the license.

  • Upgrading FCE 2 to FCE HD in mid-project--asking for trouble?

I'm in the middle of a couple of FCE projects using FCE 2.0.3, OS 10.3.9, and QuickTime 6.5.
To gain SoundTrack and LiveType (I have no desire to edit in HD), I want to upgrade to FCE HD, OS 10.4.9, and QuickTime 7.
My question is, after I do the upgrades, will I be able to open these FCE 2 projects into FCE HD, and continue to edit them as usual, just as though I had created them in FCE HD? Or will I have problems trying to convert FCE 2 projects into FCE 3.5 projects like that?
    Tom
G4 Quicksilver 1 GHz DP   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1.5 GB of RAM

Well, I went ahead and upgraded everything, and I am now running 10.4.9, QT 7, and FCE HD (v. 3.5).
And nothing drastic has happened; in fact there have been no serious problems at all in editing old projects in the new version. Success!
What I discovered is that the upgrade is only an upgrade in the sense that you end up with a newer version of FCE, because the old version is still sitting right there in the Applications folder beside the new one, and can still be launched and run as before. So, after "upgrading," you can take your pick which version of FCE you want to run.
Apparently the FCE HD installer program detects the earlier version and extracts all the user information from it, since the registration box appeared with all the information already filled in, and the only serial number it asks for is the new one. But it does not preserve and carry over any user preferences, button bar additions, etc. As far as that goes, you are starting out brand new in FCE HD.
Now, when I open an old project into the new version of FCE, a dialogue box tells me that I can save the project as a new version with a new name, while leaving the old version alone, which is just what I have been doing, for backup safety.
However, the old FCE 2 projects seem to run just fine in FCE HD, with no glitches at all. I did receive one complaint from FCE HD, upon opening an FCE 2 project, that a certain clip "had different in and out points" than it was supposed to have, or some such thing, so I just deleted that clip and replaced it with a fresh copy and all has been well since.
So, I guess I can report to anyone else contemplating doing this that there are no serious problems or glitches to be encountered while upgrading FCE projects in mid-stream, so to speak. I have now been doing considerable editing on old projects in the new version of FCE with no problems whatsoever (knocking on my wooden head!).
And I really like LiveType and Soundtrack! The upgrade comes with a tutorial DVD that walks you through FCE HD, LiveType, and Soundtrack, and I have subsequently made my first animated titles and soundtracks, quite easily. Impressive! Gaining those two programs made the upgrades worth the trouble and expense.
My only gripe, a minor one, is that a lot of the Soundtrack loops seem geared to teen or twenty-something boys, since it contains so much trendy synthesized throbbing, and the "people" sound effects consist of a great deal of agonized screaming--just what I would have enjoyed at age 17, but not now, forty years later. I was hoping for a selection of more sedate and melodic-sounding loops. (The tutorial also employs a demonstration project showing athletic boys roller-skating across a vast mud flat at suicidal speeds, while holding large kites or sails for wind-propulsion. A fall or crash under those conditions would be spectacular, and I watched eagerly for one, but amazingly, not a single lad came a cropper--not in the chosen clips, anyway).
Now, can anyone tell me where I might acquire some more classical and mature music loops (symphonic, perhaps) for this wonderful program, Soundtrack?
    Tom

  • Getting a new computer - do I have to buy another copy of FCE?

I am about to buy FCE for installation on an iMac G4. However, in about six months I'm going to buy a MacBook Pro. Does the following excerpt from the FCE license agreement cover the switch?
    2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions. This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single computer at a time. This includes the right to transfer your copy of the Apple Software licensed hereunder from an Apple G4 hardware platform to an Apple G5 platform.
I understand the "single computer at a time" part and I will obviously uninstall the original version when I reinstall on the MacBook. Just want to double check with some of you who know for sure before I go through with everything.

  • Can FCE2 and FCE3(HD) co-exist ?

    …or does the FCE 3 installer overwrite FCE2 ?

Tom, you mentioned renaming FCE to me the other day.
Is it enough to just rename the Application Icon? What about all the other files connected with it such as the FCE System ID, .plists etc.?
Also, how would you rename it?
Would "Old FCE 2" be sufficient or does any reference to FCE need to be obliterated?

  • Live type does not appear in hard drive

I'm in the middle of reinstalling Live Type on my computer. I deleted it earlier today, trashing everything that had "Live Type" in its name, and have tried reinstalling the software from the original discs.
I have two discs ("Live Type Data" 1 of 2 and "Live Type Data" 2 of 2) that I've tried to reinstall. I get the dialog boxes indicating that the discs are installing on the computer's hard drive, then after about 50 minutes, I get a message that "Installation was successful!" with a green check mark. After both discs were installed successfully, I restarted the computer (although there was no instruction to do that), but the software's icon didn't appear in my Applications folder. When I use "Find" to look for anything with "Live Type," all I get are files of previous titles that I'd created.
Is the application software on another disc and I'm only loading the "media" for the software's use?
A while ago, I installed only the first disc, but I still had the software's icon appear in my Applications folder.
Is the Live Type application software stored on my FCE 1 (or FCE 3) installation disc.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.

I just got Final Cut Studio HD and was surprised it didn't have LiveType, which I love. I learned Final Cut at a college and they had LiveType. Still doing the install as we speak, but just wondering: Is it JUST AS EASY and fun in Motion as LiveType or is it way more involved? Is there any way to get LiveType?

  • Final Cut Express HD (3.5) closes right after opening?

    Hi,
I believe years ago I had this same issue and it was as simple as deleting the preferences (??).
Basically, what's happening is I just installed FCE HD (3.5) on my G4. I meet the system requirements to run the application AND Soundtrack Pro and LiveType open and run fine. FCE closes immediately after opening and then I get an error: "The Application Final Cut Express Quit Unexpectedly."
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Yeah, sorry for being so confusing. That's exactely what I did. Since my main HD is 500Gb and my secondary drive is 120Gb, I just copied all the necessary files to the 500, formatted the 120, reinstalled OSX, and booted to it. The intention was to let the FCE software think it was installing on a fresh drive (which, it was).
However, even then it won't let me install FCE. Just LT and Soundtrack. ?? I'm a bit confused because the system requirements for Soundtrack and LT are the same for FCE.
I'm trying to install it on a Dual 1.25ghz G4 Quicksilver with 1.5Gb Ram. ??
The funny thing is I WAS able to install the complete program initially when I got it. I had a previous copy of Final Cut Express (1) on my main drive. I ran the FCE HD installer, and the program installed just fine. However, it kept closing right after it would open. I figured it was a preference conflict between the newer version (3.5) and the old version (1.1). So, I've done my best trying to erase all evidence of FCE ever being on the drive and still get nowhere ??
    Thanks!

  • HELP!!! Final Cut Express HD on ML

Got a real problem and I need help desperatly, Mountain Lion I have had problems with Mountain Lion than any other OSX.
Ok I got a new graphics card, before doing and to make sure the graphics card ran smoothly I did a systems clean up, and reinstalled Mountain Lion. Graphics card fine and working, Mountain Lion all working. I have just put in the FCE HD installation disc (the most important bit of software for my work as I work as a video artist with a huge amount of work needs to be done), prior to the reinstall was running perfectly on Mountain Lion, I now get when double clicking the Install PKG 'No longer supported by power PC' AAAAARRRRGGGG! Mountain Lion you are going to be the death of me!
I upgraded to Mountain Lion a couple of months ago, I lost Dreamweaver MX04 and Microsoft office for Mac, these I could just live without but I need FCE HD!! and fast.
Can anyone point me in the right direction on how I can install my Final Cut Express HD?
Really trying to give Mountain Lion a chance but I starting to wonder that it is just ****, and is there to make older Mac users skint.
Might just have to try and reinstall Snow Leopard until Mac sorts out this PowerPC problem if they ever will.

PLEASE AVOID ATTEMPTING TO INSTALL ROSETTA INTO LION OR MT. LION!
There have been reports from those who did this to install Final Cut Studio 2 in the early days of Lion, now reporting strange system behavior and crashes, requiring complete wipes and reinstalls!
The two safe methods to install FCE 3.5 into Mt Lion are:
    1.  Use Pacifist:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
    or
    2.  Use Jeremy Johnstone's method involving Terminal (with modifications for FCE, as nessary; refer to the comments):
    http://www.jeremyjohnstone.com/blog/2012-03-11-installing-final-cut-pro-studio-2 -0-on-mac-os-x-10-7-lion.html
For the record, these programs' installers have a bug that coincidentally triggers the PowerPC dialog box in Lion or Mt. Lion and ironically the attempted installation of Rosetta does appear to get around this bug, at least in Lion.  But at what price?
However it is folly to think that the installation of a program as complicated as Rosetta (as written for use in Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard) will function in Lion or Mt. Lion and yet not function for the hundreds of other PowerPC apps out there!

  • Clean Installation Of FCE 3.5 UPGRADE On Core Duo iMac?

In a previous post Scott told me that when I get a new Core Duo iMac I will be able to install the UPGRADE version of FCE 3.5 straight away without needing to install the old FCE 3 first. (I will need of course to use my FCE3 serial number).
I have just contacted the UK Apple Store and was told that I would probably need to install FCE3 first! However, when I challenged him the rep wasn't too certain!
Does anyone definitely know whether I can just go ahead and install from the UPGRADE DVDs without needing my original FCE3 DVDs - apart from the serial number?
(Apologies to Scott for harbouring doubts but my middle name should have been Thomas!)

I use VMWare Player (free) and use it to create virtual clients as needed.  Typically the virtual clients are "clean installs" from ISOs.  VMWare has it so well mechanized that there's not much to it.
It's pretty quick and easy to install Player and give it a try.  Another advantage to that approach is that there's only a single OS at the top level and backups can capture the whole mess w/out having to deal with 2 or 3 different OSs and their partitions.

  • FCE installation problem

I'm just installing a new copy of FCE HD 3.5 on my Powerbook G4/60GB. The specs say that Soundtrack (ST) and LiveType (LT) (16GB) can be installed on a separate disk. I'm having trouble accomplishing that.
I first installed the FCE application and unchecked ST and LT. Once FCE was successfully installed, I ran the installer again, selecting my ext. firewire drive as the destination disk.
At the point where I choose the ext. drive as the destination drive, it gives me a warning, saying "YOU CANNOT INSTALL FCE ON THIS VOLUME. THIS SOFTWARE MUST BE INSTALLED ON THE RUNNING SYSTEM"
Note that this warning comes up BEFORE the page where it lets me PICK what I want to install. I've already installed FCE, Soundtrack (appl.) and Livetype (appl.).
So, the question is, how can I install ST and LV on my ext. firewire drive?
Do I need to install all the files on my Powerbook and drag them to the other drive?
Any insight would be much appreciated!
    marlowe

It's a couple of years since I installed mine.
However, if you look at the LT DVD there should be 2 items on it - the Installer and the Data.
Try this - simply drag the Data folders from both DVDs onto your HD and put all the files into just one of the folders named LiveType Data.
The LT application EXPECTS to find the folder in a particular place, so do this:-
Make an alias of the folder and put it in HD>Library>Application Support>LiveType.
HOWEVER, your alias must be named EXACTLY LiveType Data so you will have to remove the word "alias" and don't leave a space after "Data"

  • Aperture won't open after FCE installation

Just installed FCE for first time (version 4.0.1) and now Aperture 3 simply will not open; get message that says "Aperture will not open because of a problem" and that I may have to reinstall it. It was working fine before I installed FCE.
Have MBP with 10.6.4 and 4 Gigs RAM; all are updated; ran Disk Utility.
    Anyone?

For anyone curious, the Aperture "framework files" that go missing after installing FCE are located at:
    Macintosh HD > Library > Frameworks > PluginManager.framework > Versions
If you have time machine backups, this is an easy fix. Much easier than reinstalling Aperture. Just go back to before you installed FCE, and restore the missing files. It should be a folder named "A", a folder named "B", and a folder named "Current."

  • After installation of FCE Upgrade 3.5, Objects Do Not Appear in Browser

I recently upgraded to FCE 3.5. To save disk space on my primary hard drive I installed the Live Type media files on a secondary Lacie 250 gig hardrive. The files appear on the secondary hardrive but some objects do not appear in the browser when I open Live Type and click on the object tab in the browser. (only four appear in browser). I went to preferences of Live Type and my computer appears to know that the media files are stored on the secondary hard drive - ie it got the secondary drive location correct in LT preferences.
What can I do to make the LT media files appear in the browser so that I can use them?
    Thanks,
