FCE 4 vs. 3.5 with multiple cores

Hello,
I've just upgraded to an 8-core Mac Pro. I've been using FCE 3.5 HD, and wondering if there's much difference between how it uses multiple cores for things like rendering, vs. FCE 4. I don't need the new video formats that 4 supports, so was wondering if I would notice any speed improvements by upgrading. Thanks.

Best way to set up motion 5 with multiple cores

I am a novice in this area so bear with me.
I recently purchased a Mac Pro with 8 Core and 24 GB of RAM as I'm doing a lot of video rendering for my video lectures. I use motion 5 to chromakey the greenscreen background on my talking head video. Most of my videos are 1 - 2 hours in length. Prior to the mac pro it took my mac book pro 26 hours to do the chromakey rendering. Now with the Mac Pro it is about 10 hours to render 1 hour of video but I'm wondering if there are any settings I could tweak to get it to render even faster.
I have a two hard drives - one is the solid state and the other is a "regular" harddrive (forgot the name). The OS and motion 5 are installed on the solid state drive.
Here are my system particulars:
Processor 2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Memory 24 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50d)
I capture my video using screenflow and then export just the talking head video with the greenscreen and pull that into motion 5 and chromakey the greenscreen. I then export/share the file as 444.

It seems it can use more memory etc. but doesn't. That is where I'm thinking there is something I can do to make it use the resources available.

Desktop with multiple cores

Has anyone else ran into issues giving a desktop more than a single core?
I've yet to be able to do this with both my Windows and Ubuntu guests... The OS simply doesnt see it (even after a shutdown/start).

Try this procedure:
Unplug the PC and open it up. Clean out all the dust. Carefully remove and replace all the cables going to the motherboard one at a time. Do the same for the memory dimms and the video and sound cards if you have any. You might want to buy a can of compressed air to blow the dust out of the CPU heat sink. Plug your PC back in and give it a go.
If the above doesn't help then if your are using a discrete video card then remove it and use the on board video.
Some hard drives can also cause similar issues. Look here for a firmware update.
Lastly, consider replacing the power supply. Weak power supplies can cause weird issues.

Support for multiple core?

Does GarageBand support multiple-core processors? In other words, would it take advantage of the multple cores the new MacPro offers?

all Windows Home versions (XP and Vista) only support one physical prcossor with multiple Cores.
Windows Professional versions (XP Professional and Vista Business+Ultimate) support two physical processor with multiple Cores each.

How can I merge all of the new FF windows that are open into one window with multiple tabs? Safari has a merge windows feature that I like. This is really nice when conducting reasearch on multiple sites at the same time.

When I clik on weblinks they all open into new windows making it somewhat painful to clik on window in the menu bar to go to each new page. I would rather have a feature that would allow me to merge all of those individual windows into tabs within one page.

How to create list items with multiple attachment files using rest api javascript

In one of user form I am using javascript rest api to create a list item with multiple attachment files. So far I am able to create list item and once created uploading an attachment file. But this is two step process first create an item and then upload
a file.
It create an additional version of the item which is not desired. Also I am not able find a way to attach multiple files in a go. Following is the code I am using.

But this does not solve the core of the issue. You are uploading attachments after creation of item and multiple files are being attached in loop. This is kind of iterative update to an existing item with attachments. This will end up creating multiple versions.
What I am trying to achieve is to create an item along with multiple attachments in a go. No item updates further to attach a file.
Please suggest how this can be done in one go. SharePoint does it when one creates an item with multiple attachment.

"detected a page fragment with multiple root components" warning

I am getting a warning on the standalone WLS when I run my page that contains a taskflow as region. I am using a page fragment in my taskflow.

The warning states the obvious, I have everything within a panelheader in my page fragment. Also, I do not get the warning on the integrated WLS. Any ideas as to why this warning is still popping up in the log? I am using JDev 11.1.1.3.

Thank you for responding. I do not have any popups. I do, however, have another region nested within this fragment ( have this warning on another fragment that doesn't have a nested region though). Here is the code for my fragment.

Facetime with multiple students

Does anyone know how I can set up the iPDADS on a cart so multiple students can Facetime with multiple students at another school at the same time?

Spatial Query, Use Multiple Cores

Basic question, is SQL 2012 running on Windows 2008 R2 64 bit expected to use multiple cores to execute it's tasks?
I have a table of points, 480, that has 3 empty columns that are being updated from 3 separate tables of polygons via a spatial join based on an intersection (STIntersects) of the point and polygons. All of the data is in 4326 and all tables have spatial
indexes.
The server running this query has 32 logical cores, but only 1 core is used and it is maxed out. It takes 53 seconds to complete the update. I have over a million points that need this done. I want to assume that if SQL can access more cores it will complete
faster.
I've looked at the actual execution plan and there is a 99% cost on the spatial query.

Hi,
updating millions of records could lock your resource and other users may have trouble connecting or reading data.
In some cases, variable table is your friend, insert the data you needed to a variable table before issuing the update.
with that, you may need to have (nolock) on each table. eg.
[LegislativeMapData2014].[dbo].[CONGRESS_2014] (nolock)

How do you disable "Run with Multiple Threads" in a standalone EXE

I have a program written in Labview 6.1. After moving to a different hardware platform, my program has started crashing at the same point every time it is run. I eventually found out that the cause of the crash is the fact that the new hardware has a dual core processor. I confirmed this by disabling "Run with multiple threads" and now the program works fine. What I need to know now is how to disable the same setting in a built EXE file, since as far as I know the "Run with multple threads" setting only affects execution in the Labview Dev environment.

Greg McKaskle once posted that using a non-reentrant (VI is NOT re-entrant) wrapper VI to make the calls to the dll will prevent simultaneous execution of the dll.

Hi again :) another conversation for my knowledge...! if I register my Edge WAE with multiples WAE COREs, when the Edge intercepts a request for a file, on which CORE is the request directed to? To all of them? thanks for your help, theophile.

If the servername has already been configured, the edge will send the request to the core where that servername is configured to be at. Else, it looks up the servername from DNS/AD and then sends it to all cores to discover which core it is at.

WiSM with multiple VRF

does any one has configured WiSM with multiple VRF on 6500. I have 2 6500 with 3 VRFs & one WiSM in each core. there is no communication between VRFs & my wireless users are spread in each VRF, now I want to configure these WiSM in such a way so that it can provide the redundnacy to each VRF's wireless user,,I hope u all have got my point.

Maintain performance while working with multiple shape layers (~50 )

Hey guys, I've been working on some projects lately where I need to animate a lot of shape layers cascading, arraying, with various animation properties. When I get to the point of using 30-60 or so shape layers, and they're all doing some kind of scale, position, etc. animations, my computer slows to a complete crawl. This then forces me into using a single shape layer and the repeater functions. These can work well sometimes, and don't hamstring the flexibility too much, UNTIL you need to incorporate varying colors. At that point, I usually switch my shape layers to masks and place a layer below with varying colors as needed. The shape animations then reveal those colors, but this doesn't work for a complex object that in itself requires many colors. Sooo...
What kind of workflows do you all have for working with multiple semi-complex objects at once? I figure I must be missing something, because this has gotten really limiting. Is everyone just working with 256GB of RAM?

Pre-comping can speed up your previews if you are using disk cache, but nothing will speed up your first ram preview or a ram preview after a keyframe change except a better optimized system. All it takes to slow things down is one effect or a footage file that causes AE to start consuming memory and processor power.
As a test I just created a gradient filled rectangle, added rotation keyframes, duplicated the layer so I have 64 copies on my Mac Mini and tried a ram preview compared with the same comp with only 1 layer. Almost no difference in the time it took to preview 10 seconds. Threw in a scale transform for all layers and again, not much difference between one shape layer and 64. To make things much harder I change the rectangle to a Polystar and animated everything in the Polystart transform properties, set up a composition with 128 duplicates and a comp with one layer. 2.5 seconds for a ram preview at quarter rez for a single layer, 10 seconds for a ram preview for 128 layers. That's more than acceptable to me for a two year old Mac Mini with 16 gb of ram. Increasing the zoom factor to 50% with Resolution set to Auto doubled the ram preview time which was still acceptable.
This makes me wonder what else is going on in your composition. Any effects or other things going on? Have you optimized your system for maximum performance? Examples for good programming practice with multiple DAQmx tasks

I'm writing a program to continuously log data from 8 counters, 8 encoders, and 8 voltages. The proof of concept VI with a single counter was simple and elegant, but scaling up to all signals resulted in a wiring mess. I've been working through the Labview Core courses, and am currently on Core 3. I still haven't come across a discussion on how to work with multiple DAQmx tasks without making a mess of the block diagram. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Also, say I have a state machine that has a configure, idle, and logging states. I need to set the initial values of the encoders during configuration, and keep up with their changes while in the idle state so I have appropriate starting values when entering the logging state. Can anyone point to an example that shows how this might be accomplished?

I'm very familiar with AE's/Functional Globals - but I have struggled in the past with handling multiple DAQmx tasks - particularly when you're using multiple devices and using different types of measurements which require seperate tasks/handling (e.g. such as thermocouples which require extra compensation).
I'm not even sure I know whare the requirements are for needing multiple tasks - I know you can need multiple tasks for a single device if the type of measurement is different but can you share an Analogue Input task amongst multiple devices?
I think in hindsight (and without too much thought now) it looks like a good case for Object Oriented LabVIEW - with a base DAQmx class (initialise, configure, start, acquire, stop, close etc.) and then child classes for each type of measurement (with one task associated with each - and private data unique to that specific class). You then hold an array of objects (one for each task) and iterate through each one with dynamic despatch to get the data.
I don't know your particular experience level of using LabVIEW (and as such, OO may not be appropriate) - but as a wider discussion of 'best practice' it seems like an appropriate method I would use going forward.
