FCE 4 with M-Audio Fast Track Pro

I have an M-Audio Fast Track Pro with a condenser mike using phantom power, connected via USB.
I have used that at length for voiceovers on iMovie '08 without any issues.
Now I'm making the transition to FCE 4, and when I select "Voiceovers" and then change the microphone from "Inbuilt" to "M-Audio Fast Track Pro", I get an immediate Kernel Panic.
Latest drivers for M-Audio FTP are installed (and they specify 10.5.2 compatibility.
Using 10.5.2 with all latest software updates on a 2.8Ghz 24" iMac.
Any ideas?
Many thanks.

Thanks Jonathan, yeah, me too (just starting out).
I must admit, I haven't investigated Soundtrack - though I wonder if the issue of Kernel Panic would be any different - I can try, at least. So, thanks for the suggestion - but I guess that the "Voiceover" facility in FCE is there for a reason.
By the way - my initial info was in error - the M-Audio driver specifies 10.5.1 not 10.5.2. All you OSX experts - would such an OS upgrade be likely to make a difference to a driver like that - or is that an impossible question?
Thanks again,
Greg

  • Adobe Audition with M-Audio Fast Track Pro mic input

I must be missing a setting somewhere.  I have two mics going into the M-Audio Fast Track Pro (XLR inputs).  Mic 1 works fine but no input from Mic 2 although I have audio coming through my headsets when speaking into Mic 2 - it just doesn't register in Adobe Audition.  I have switched mics and cables and all are fine.  The issue is with Mic 2.
Again, Mic 1 is working fine and Mic 2 is picking up audio and feeding to my headphones but not to Adobe Audition.  I have all the latest drivers installed.
I am on a Win7 (32bit) system.  Microphones are Shure PG-42's (phantom powered condenser microphones).
I contacted M-Audio support and phone-verified that all Fast Track Pro settings were proper.  Seems to be a setting or driver issue in Audition.  I've spent hours trouble-shooting to no avail.  In the meantime, I'm using a Y-splitter running both mics into Mic Input 1 on the Fast Track Pro which works fine but I really need seperate control over each microphone.  I have interviews coming up soon and would like to find a resolution quickly.  Can anyone help?  Thanks!

Archie!  Good stuff!  I'm almost there...
I've got my Adobe Audition set up with the settings you gave me - everything is armed and good-to-go... but then...
When I hit record Tracks one and two look like they're recording but there is no level (no audio) going into the tracks.
If I go back to the Edit view and try to record the entire fills with green as if I'm filling it 100% with sound.  This has never happened before.
I suspect I've got something hosed-up in my "Audio Hardware Setup" under the Edit section.
My selections for Audio Driver Setup are:
    1)  M-Audio USB ASIO
    2)  ASIOforALLv2
    3)  Audition 3.0 Windows Sound
If you could give me some direction as to the settings in "Audio Harware Setup" I feel I've almost got it.
    Thanks!

  • Soundproblem: Mac Book Pro with M-Audio Fast Track pro.

Powerbook: Mac Book pro 10.6.8., 2,66 Ghz, Intel Core i7, 4GB
    Interface: M-Audio: Fast track Pro
    Version 1.8.1.
I have a problem with the M-Audio Interface with the Mac-Pro via USB. It sounds as if the speaker is broken. The Powerbook works normal - via intern soundcard no problem. The Interface, too. I checked it with my Mac Pro (Mac Pro, 10.5.8, 2x 2,8 GHz Quad-Core Intel, 8GB Ram,) no problem!

No problem, you need to select an audio track and select input monitoring if you want to hear something and of course recording (the first two square buttons in the track, marked I and R) and plug your headphones into the M-Audio otherwise you won't hear anything (as mentioned above) cause that is what the m-audio is for, it replaces your computer's sound card. And unless you set up some aggregate device your computer's sound card will not work...and (nearly forgot) if you plug in your guitar in one channel you need to select a mono audio track to record otherwise it will be only on one side.

  • Can't adjust recording level with M-Audio Fast Track Pro

I downloaded the appropriate driver for my M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface & everything looks fine... BUT I can't adjust the Recording level at all. I am not sure if this is an issue with the M-audio device, or garage band??? It is driving me crazy, since I just want to make some music and can't even hear what is being recorded. ???

Thanks, .... Yes to all of the above. I am wracking my brain & will call M-Audio tomorrow. Everything looks perfect on the interface & on garage band - but, even though the Fast track Pro shows up in my sound preferences & I can select it as the input & output source, etc., when I go to its window, even hooked up, it says no "device is not connected." Then it details that there are "no input controls" under sound in system preferences. I have two working usb cords & it does the same on either. I think this is the problem & have no idea how to fix it. I just want to plug it all in and record & have lost So much time . Hmmmmm???

  • Is Logic Pro X compatible with M-Audio Fast Track Pro?

    Hi,
new Logix Pro X looks very interesting - does anyone know if M-Audio Fast Track Pro is compatible with it (couldn't find any topics so far..).
    Thanks for your help!

    Back to basics..
I googled Fast Track Pro compatibility with OS X 10.8.x and found several incompatibility issues and no experiences in version 10.8.4 so far.
So there is a risk that when ugprading Lion to Mountain Lion 10.8.4, Fast Track Pro wouldn't work any longer.
And purchasing LPX for 180e and a new MOTU audio interface for 230e over doubles the initial price of LPX alone..not so attractive deal anymore..
Do you know if there are any good ways to get back to Lion after installing ML if there seems to be problems with Fast Track Pro? I'm using MacBook Pro with preinstalled Lion. I googled too many articles on this and I'm still confused if going back to Lion is possible or not.
    Thanks again!

  • Problems with M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface & FCP\Logic

    Hi gang,
I'm using a small M-Audio (Fast Track Pro) external interface to pump sound from the Mac to my speakers (and to input live sound).
I use it a lot with Logic Audio. No problems.
With FCP it does odd things on occasion. It suddenly starts to feedback, creating a horrendous din. Then I have to shut down FCP, replug the USB connect, even restart the computer to get it working normally again. And sometimes it just goes dead ... NO sound to the speakers.
Anybody come across this kind of thing? Any suggestions?
    Ben

I'm seeing similar things in Logic Express 8.0.1. I didn't experienced this with Logic Express 8.0, though I only used it a handful of times before getting the update.
Using the Fast Track Pro as an output device seems to work fine, but when I create an audio track and monitor my bass the audio tends to drop out after between 5 to 30 seconds; using inserts on the track seems to make it fail faster. Logic looks like its still monitoring, going by the monitor level, for a little longer, then it gets "stuck". If I record the audio track while its stuck and then play back through built-in audio its a clip of the bass, about a half a second or so long, repeating over and over again making it seem like the Fast Track Pro is, itself, stuck.
While it's doing all this Logic and the whole OS have a tendency to lock up for up to probably half a minute, sometimes longer.

  • Using Outboard Gear With M-Audio Fast Track Pro And Logic Express

My Fast Track Pro has 2 insert jacks on the back where you can run a send and return to use outboard gear. The cable you use has 2 female 1/4" jacks (one is send and the other is return) that go to a 1/4" male jack that you plug into the back of the interface.
    My question is this:
How can I get Logic Express to send a track through the outboard gear connected to my interface? On the track's output settings in Logic there are "Output 1+2", which run to my monitors I think, and "Output 3+4", which don't have anything plugged into them. There don't appear to be any other options for sending the track. How can I get Logic to recognize the Inserts jack on the Fast Track Pro? I'm running all the latest drivers if that means anything. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks for helping me on this. I'm still a bit confused on how to send the channel through the insert. The jacks on the back of my interface are "TRS Output 1+2" (my monitors are plugged into these outputs), a RCA "Output 1,2,3, and 4", an S/PDIF out and in, and then 2 TRS inserts jacks, marked 1 and 2. Each jack does it's own separate send and return which is why I had to buy the cable with the 2 female jacks on it.
I've been able to use the I/O plugin and get the track to accept a signal from the insert on input 1 (I have a looping pedal running in the send chain and was able to get it to play a loop over top of the audio already recorded on the channel), but am unable to send the recorded track through the fx send. What would I need to set the output to to be able to do this? Thanks for your time.

  • M-Audio Fast Track Pro compatibility with Logic Express

I am looking to add M-Audio Fast Track Pro. Does anyone have feedback for me, such as yes or no, or what else I might consider?
    Thanks,
    Tony

I have one and it works great for me. I'm still using LE8, but I'm sure it works with 9 as well. I use is primarily to record vocals (I've got an older ElectroVoice condenser mic). No complaints. If I had the money, I might go with a Firewire device, since it would be faster (less latency), but I don't have any regrets using the FTPro at all. I also use it to monitor my recording with its headphone jack.

  • Is Logic Pro X compatible with M Audio Fast Track Ultra ?

I'm running Logic 8 Pro with M-Audio Fast Track Ultra.
I'd like to upgrade to Logic Pro X.
    Will these components be compatible?

If it has a Mountain Lion compatible driver then it should work. (Its not about LPX compatibility.. its about OS X compatibility that matters in almost every case)
    See here for the drivers...
    http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Download/Fast-Track-Ultra-Drivers
V2.2.2 is 10.8 compatible however there are several threads in their forums that indicate issues with 10.8.3 and higher...
    Here is an example..
    http://community.m-audio.com/m-audio/topics/driver_for_m_audio_fast_track_ultra_ mac_mountain_lion_10_8_3
Given that your interface is no longer a supported item..  and Avid have taken over M-Audio.. it might be that there will be no further updates leaving you unfortunately, with an out of date and no longer supported piece of hardware... which frankly is typical of M-Audio...
As a quick aside... This is why I stick with Motu equipment.. and have done so for many, many years now. Their support both for new and legacy devices is and has always been.. excellent.. and my original Ultralite Mk1 which is at least 7 years old now I believe, is still fully supported in the latest OS X version. using the latest Motu Drivers..
Anyhow.. Check with M-Audio/Avid to find out if this has been resolved......

  • (M-audio) Fast Track Pro - don't work anymore with 4.09

    Hello,
I use a M-Audio Fast Track Pro as audio interface, and, until yesterday it was working perfect.
When I installed the Maverick 4.09, my audio interface just stop working!!
Do you know what could be happening, and how can I solve this?
    Thanks a lot!
    Fernando.

I had the same problem (Fast Track Pro + Mavericks 10.9.2 > no output sound).
After trying several combinations, I found out an non logical solution, but it did work
    What I did:
    1) Download the most recent driver update 1.9.4 (http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Download/Fast-Track-Pro-Drivers)
    2) Uninstall Fast Track Pro Drive and restart computer
    3) After restar, do NOT install again. Just go to the System Preferences/Sound and set Fast Track as your in/output port
    Hope it helps!

  • I updated to OS X Mavericks and now trying to run Logic Pro X on a MacBook Pro mid-2009, using an M-Audio Axiom 49 and an M-Audio Fast Track Pro... Logic keeps telling me that Mac OS X MIDI Services are not available... How do I solve this problem?

I updated to OS X Mavericks and now trying to run Logic Pro X on a MacBook Pro mid-2009, using an M-Audio Axiom 49 and an M-Audio Fast Track Pro... Logic keeps telling me that Mac OS X MIDI Services are not available... How do I solve this problem?

I just checked to see if the update to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 solved any of the issues outlined in my previous post, and to my dismay, nothing has changed -- all of the previous problems persist.
My iMac (8) -- it's renamed itself eight times since the recent troubleshoot with the Apple tech rep -- shows up as a shared device in Finder on my MacBook Pro, but when I click on it, I cannot establish a connection using "Connect As".  So I've attempted to connect using the menu "Go/Connect to Server...", using both (alternately) the iMac's name and IP address, to no avail.  I get a message which reads: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'Peter's iMac (8)'. This server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time.  Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
    Here's what I know:
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) does exist;
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) is available at this time;
    The server name -- Peter's iMac (8) -- is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
    The server IP address is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
The network connection is active when I attempt to connect.
I'm convinced the problems stem directly from the OS X Yosemite update.  None of this was ever remotely an issue in the previous OS X's -- any of them.  This is maddening!  What can be done?  Apple?? Anyone???

  • CAD GXL2200, M-Audio Fast Track Pro, Garageband '11

    Hello,
I am running a MacBook Pro Early 2011, with Garageband '11 hooked up to a M-Audio Fast Track Pro with +48v Phantom Power turned on running to a CAD GXL2200 Gold Diaphragm Condenser Mic. When I hook this all up, I make a new Real Instrument Tack on Garageband and select the second input for the M-Audio and choose to monitor. When i attempt to record from the Mic, i get no input. What settings do i need to have on my M-Audio or Garageband?

Are you plugged into input 2 on the fast track?
    Is the track record enabled?
Have you tried tried the pad or inst/line buttons on the fast track?
