FCE- Audio filters

I just started using FCE v.2.01 and i'm having a hard time with the audio filters. I think either i'm not applying them properly or their not working right. I've been trying to get rid of some tape hiss and wind noise on my audio and i cant reshoot or go to an audio house to do voice overs. I know FCE has voice overs but I was hoping the filters would help. If someone has knowledge of the audio filters in FCE 2. please write back. thank you.

  • Red line and beeps when trying to apply Audio Filters in FCE

I'm using FCE 4.0.1 and am getting red line and beeps when trying to apply Audio Filters. I have rendered the files. No problems with audio otherwise.

Just as a point of clarification, you stated that you were "getting red line and beeps when trying to apply Audio Filters"  Did you mean when you applied audio filters?  Or just when you were trying to apply them?
What is the format, sampling rate and bit depth of the audio?   Does it happen just with certain filters or with any filters applied?

  • FCE not opening, audio filters is where it stalls

    Hi,
When I launch FCE hd it loads up to the audio filters. It displays ' loading audio filters' ......Line 6 Gearbox and then the pop up window shows close, report or re-launch. I have never used Gearbox in conjunction with FCE so I'm baffled. Anyone had this issue??

There's a conflict with third party plugins. You'll most likely have to uninstall them for FCE to work.

  • Video / Audio Filters not showing up in "Viewer" tab?

Hi, I recently re-installed Final Cut Express v4.0.1 after a hard drive crash.  Now the video and audio filters do not show up on the Viewer Screen.  They show up on the "Effects" menu tab (though video transitions do not).  I've attempted uninstall / reinstall and deleting preferences but still no luck.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

You may not have deleted the dodgy app fully as there are numerous hidden folders.
    Use this free app:-

Make sure only FCE is selected and click the Remove Selected button at the bottom.

  • Preventing FC Express HD from loading audio filters

How can I prevent Final Cut Express HD (3.0) from loading all the TDM/RTAS/AudioUnit etc. plug-ins that we're working with in ProTools 7 HD ?
It takes FCE HD 15 minutes to validate all the 'audio filters' and it does that every startup: we don't even need the plug-ins in FCE HD.

  • Audio Filters for filtering out noise

Hi all! I'm fresh on FCE and doing pretty well thanks to these forums. I've found answers to most of my issues except this one. I have a video clip with a soft spoken person and air conditioning background noise. I've tried numerous filters and settings, but, I have NO experience with audio settings. Where would you suggest I start as far as a filter to use, and what settings to tweak? I was also going to use the "Gain" filter to boost her volume after I filter out the A/C. Thanks!!!!

    Try Effects>Audio Filters>3 Band Equalizer.

A third party appliczatin like Sound Soap could be a better solution than FCE filters. Try a trial on your clip.

  • New Media Encoder Error: video and/or audio filters are missing...

My colleague reported this error popup window while using Adobe Media Encoder CC (up-to-date):
"video and/or audio filters are missing and the rendered output may not match the original"
I've been seeing similar errors the past few days. I can't remember if the wording was the same in the errors I saw, but the circumstances were the same.
I've never seen this popup error before the most recent CC update.
    Some background info:
I queued up multiple Premiere Pro pproj files as usual from within Premiere
without rebooting or deleting any cache or temp files or anything, I start the queue
I have no special plugins installed in Premiere. Vanilla CC install.
    Windows 7, 64-bit
This error doesn't tell me what audio/video filter(s) are missing. The output files, once I dismiss this warning, are perfect.
The major problem: It stops the queue dead in it's tracks. Sure, it might seem handy to stop and give you a warning, but when it's a false report and there's nothing wrong, it's killing us, because we queue up multiple files for encoding overnight, and we're not here to get the popups.
What is likely causing this? Is it a bug that this is appearing so frequently? Has anyone else experienced this besides my colleague and I?
    Thanks!

Update for anyone experiencing this issue:
We are still investigating the cause of the issue and would really like your help tracking it down. If you run in to it I would be happy to jump on the phone with you and preferably do a screenshare as well. If you want to run some tests for me, this is what may help us track it down:
    0. Please make sure you are updated to the latest version of Premiere Pro and AME, which at this time are Premiere Pro 7.2.1 and AME 7.2.
    1. Simplify the project. Create a copy of the project and eliminate anything in the project that isn't related to the sequence(s) you are exporting. Then run the encode again. If it still occurs, move to the next step. If it doesn't occur any more, repeat step one and only remove half of the unused items (sorry, this is giong to be a manual process). Rinse, repeat.
    2. Open your sequence in Premiere and press Cmd/Ctrl + A to select all clips in your sequence. Right click and select Remove All Effects. Export again. No repro? Go to step 4. If it still repros, go to step 4.
    3. Make all the media offline. Export again. No repro? Go to step 4. Repro? Go to step 5.
    4. Send me a message with as much detail as possible. Even better would be if you could provide me a copy of your project file.
Your help in tracking this issue down is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Apple Audio Filters in Final Cut Pro

I'm posting this question here because I didn't receive any responses in the Final Cut Pro message area, and I thought given the nature of the questions, audiofiles that read this area might have an answer.
In Final Cut Pro there are two folders of audio filters, one called APPLE and the other FINAL CUT PRO.
I fully realize none of these filters have the power of programs like SOUNDTRACK PRO.
However, I'm in a situation where I need to document what the filters do. I've already found all the material I need for the FINAL CUT PRO filters. However, I can't find any information anywhere on the APPLE category of filters.
    My questions:
#1 - Does anybody know why the APPLE audio filters are seperated out from the Final Cut Pro filters? How are they different generally?
#2 - Does anybody know where I can find documentation on what each of the APPLE category of audio filters do? I can't find it in the Final Cut Pro Manuals or Diane Weyland books. I found some Ken Stone tutorials on line, but they don't address the APPLE filters.
#3 - And many of the APPLE audio filters seem to be near duplicates in the Final Cut Pro audio filters, so what's the point in having two versions?
Any info at all or a direction to look would be appreciated.
    Thanks so much.

As of Leopard I was surprised to find that the Apple system plug-ins, and those that are supplied with the FCP suite are not AU plug-ins in the old sense of what a plug-in used to be. They no longer exist as a file anywhere in the system as they used to. Audio Unit plug ins formerly used to exist in Library/Audio/Plug ins/Components - now they are build into the Leopard operating system.
Any third party plug-in you purchase will still be installed in the "old" way.
Sorry, I can't remember where that documentation exists. Probably in the developer docs somewhere.

  • APPLE vs. FCP audio filters

I have a basic question. I'm trying to do some documentation on the various audio filters built into FCP, and you've got the "APPLE" folder and the "Final Cut Pro" folder.
I'm not asking for an explanation of each filter, as theres lots of documentation on line and from various sources, and I also know these filters are not on par with SOUNDTRACK PRO for doing any real audio fixing, but I have one simple question I'm just trying to get the answer to, so I can in turn explain it to others...
Why are there two sets of filters, APPLE and FCP? I can guess that FCP created those filters in their folder, but, then what are the APPLE filters...why are they seperated out?
    Any input would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Audio Filters in FCP

I just recorded something in the ol' garage with my XH-A1 and I do not have my shotgun mic yet. (I know) Anyway, I was just pondering to see if anyone knew of a Audio Filter that could condense the Echo/Noise? I dont know if that makes sense but thought I would try. Nick

  • URGENT AUDIO HELP NEEDED!! Suitable audio filters

I'm in desperate need of knowing what audio filters are good to reduce background noise for a film I'm making. I've got a basic DV camera that picked up a lot of wind the other day and I am trying to minimise the background noise so that I can pick up what people were saying.
Does anyone know what audio filters on Final Cut Express are suitable for doing this?
    Cheers

I have never found a way to filter out wind noise, and I don't think it is practicable. I think that the problem is that the frequency in wind noise is similar to the frequencies in most video audio, so you can't filter out the wind noise without damaging the rest of the audio.
The only solution seems to be to shoot on a windless day, or use a very directional mike, and/or have a wind sock that is effective. (Unless soemone else knows a way.)

  • Audio Filters Not Loading - CS6 Mac

I've encountered a strange problem that I hadn't seen in previous versions of PPro.
I had applied a number of audio filters in a recent project. While in the process of doing this, the program crashed. When I re-opened the project, I received the message:
    "Audio Filter missing:  1094998321 Dynamics1
    Audio Filter missing:  1095915057 Reverb1"
and so on, for any audio filter applied.
Clicked "OK" and the project continued opening, however the effects panel for all audio clips with filters applied now read "Offline (filter unavailable)"
Strange. Deleted then reapplied the filter. Played back correctly. Closed the program, reopened, and the filter is once again "offline".
    I tried a few workarounds:
    1. "replace and render" the audio clips. This froze the program and I had to force quit
    2. exporting clips to Audition. This also locked up the program
    3. apply filters then render final audio file in Adobe Encoder. Audio file rendered, but filters weren't applied.
Very strange and frustrating. Any ideas on the cause of this or possible solutions?
    2008 Mac Pro 3,1 (2 x Xeon 2.8 GHz processors)
    16 GB RAM
    GTX 285 video card
Project files and media cache on separate drive from program

I have experienced this problem several times with Premiere Pro CS6 and PluralEyes 3.0 for Windows.
The problem is simple:  when you apply an audio effect to a track that was synced by PluralEyes, Premiere Pro gets confused about whether the track is mono or stereo.  Premiere Pro applies the effect properly, but when it saves this effect in its project file, it writes the incorrect filter name.
Then when you restart Premiere Pro, it reads the project file, extracts the incorrect filter name, and complains about the "missing" filter.
The solution is simple:  just edit the Premiere Pro project file (which is in XML format) to contain the correct filter name.  For example, when I added the Lowpass and Bass effects to a PluralEyes audio track, Premiere Pro wrote these to the project file:
    <FilterMatchName>Internal Lowpass Mono</FilterMatchName>
    <FilterMatchName>Internal Bass Mono</FilterMatchName>
When I changed those from "Mono" to Stereo with a text editor, then reloaded Premiere Pro, it solved my problem:
    <FilterMatchName>Internal Lowpass Stereo</FilterMatchName>
    <FilterMatchName>Internal Bass Stereo</FilterMatchName>
The trick, of course, was in discovering the correct names for these effects.  To do that, I:
Created a new Premiere Pro CS6 project
Imported the audio track in question
    Dropped it into a sequence
Applied the audio effect(s) in question
    Saved the project
Opened the Premiere Pro project file (which ends in ".prproj") in a text editor
Searched for the effect name (e.g., 'Lowpass" or "Bass")
The filter names are not always this predictible; for example, when Premiere Pro wrote "<FilterMatchName>1095782705 EQ1</FilterMatchName>", it really meant "<FilterMatchName>1095782706 EQ2</FilterMatchName>".  And when it wrote "<FilterMatchName>1094998321 Dynamics1</FilterMatchName>", it really meant "<FilterMatchName>1094998322 Dynamics2</FilterMatchName>".

  • Editing FCE audio with Garage Band?

I've never tried to edit FCE audio with anything except FCE itself and SoundSoap. Can Garage Band edit FCE audio without messing up the video? I seem to recall trying to edit FCE audio with Audacity once, but lost the video information when I saved the edit. I never tried it again. It would be nice to be able to cut and past a bit of ambient room noise to cover some unwanted audio.

    Martin,
I thought I'd tried that before and was not successful. I'll try again. And I'll resolve to be more persistent and not give up at the first obstacle.
I recall seeing a tutorial of SoundTrack Pro where you could copy and replace a bit of audio. I suppose that's too much to ask of FCE or the now departed SoundTrack?
