FCE file compression issues

Hello again.
With all of your great help, I successfully (well, almost) uploaded my video sample to my website.
There are a few sticky issues that I was hoping you could help with so I could tweak my settings.
Here is the info:
I exported my FCE file as an uncompressed 8-bit file, final size 1.8 gigs for a 1 1/2 minute segment.
I then compressed in QT, using H.264, frame rate 24, key frame 150, data rate 1200, best quality. Audio ACC 96kbps.
This gave me a great quality 11 meg file.
The problem is that the playback outpaces the loading a bit on the website. Any suggestions on settings that won't kill quality?
The second problem is that my logo is squished a bit..Any ideas?
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jo

thanks ross...i'm still working on the right settings for all users, so my website is funky right now...it is very frustrating...a 10 MB file shouldn't take so long to load...
I've been playing around with Flix to convert to flash, but the quality just isn't there...everything looks so crappy....I've tried so many combinations, but all are **** (sorry the cuss) quality...
HOW ARE ALL THESE WEBSITES GETTING GREAT LOOKING VIDEOS!!!!! I WANT TO KNOW!!!!
this Flix program is a professional conversion software and should produce okay results...but nope...
One problem I had with the QT file was that unless you have the latest version on your computer, this video won't play....(for instance on my pc laptop)
Anyway, check back, there is probably a new file on the site now....
Thanks for the comments! Jo

  • Does Time Machine use a differential/delta file compression when copying files ?

    Hello,
    I would like to use Time Machine to backup to a MacBook Air but that computer is using a Virtual Machines store in a single file of 50 GBytes.
    Once the initial backup will be done, does Time Machine will only copy the changes in this large file or will everyday copy the full 50 Bytes?
    In other word does Time Machine use a differential/dela file compression algorithm (like un rsync)?
    If it is not yet the case, can you please file for me an application request to the development team internally?
    If others are also interested in such a feature, you’re welcome to vote for it.
    Kind regards,
    Olivier

    Ok, it looks like the current version of Time Machine cannot handle efficiently in network terms large files like Virtual Machine files and this a real issue today.
    Is anybody here able to file an official feature request to Apple to be able to use Time Machine efficiently also with large files (let's stay > 5 GBytes) ?
    I should propably mean using a differential compression algorythm over the network like the examples below:

  • Applescript:: PICT File Compression doesn't work [?]

    I have tried many options for getting Pict file compression to work via scripting but to no avail. Can anyone confirm if this works in PS CS4?
    PICT file options I am trying to get to work are:  {class:PICT file save options, compression:maximum quality JPEG, embed color profile:false, resolution:thirty two, save alpha channels:false}
    All option **except compression seem to work.. :/
    Example code:
    set newPictFilePath to ((path to desktop folder) & "newPictFile.pct") as string
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS4"
    set docRef to current document
    set photoshopSaveFormat to PICT file
    set photoshopSaveOptions to {class:PICT file save options, compression:maximum quality JPEG, embed color profile:false, resolution:thirty two, save alpha channels:false}
    set kSavedDocument to save docRef in file newPictFilePath as photoshopSaveFormat with options photoshopSaveOptions appending no extension with copying
    end tell

    Hello,
    I did not have any problems with the script you posted, but I ran into issues when my document was not flattened, or was not RGB. After I added that to the script, everything seemed to work.
    I also have a habit of telling a document to save instead telling the app to save a document, but that might just be my quirk.

  • Recording File Size issue CS 5.5

    I am using CS 5.5, a Balckmagic Ultra Studio Pro through USB 3.0 being fed by a Roland HD Video switcher. Everything is set for 720P 60fps (59.94) and the Black Magic is using the Motion JPEG compression. I am trying to record our sermons live onto a Windows 7 machine with an Nvidia Ge-Force GTX 570, 16 GB of Ram and a 3TB internal raid array (3 drives). It usually works great but more often now when I push the stop button in the capture window, the video is not proceesed and becomes unusable. Is it a file size issue or what. I get nervous when my recording goes longer than 50 Minutes. Help

    Jim thank you for the response. I have been away and busy but getting
    caught up now.
    I do have all drives formatted as NTFS. My problem is so sporadic that I
    can not get a pattern down. This last Sunday recorded fine so we will see

  • FCE to FCP? Can I transfer an unfinished FCE file into FCP?

    Hi all,
    I would like to know if i can transfer a FCE file into FCP and continue editing from there?
    I started my first project in FCE, after many months of learning the basics the hard way.
    Having now read about the features of FCP, I am considering upgrading as I am led to believe that a lot of issues that are consuming my time editing, (e.g. eliminating unwanted audio ticks, image stabilisation etc.) are far easier/quicker in FCP.
    I realise that you can not make something out of what you don't have, but FCE just doesn't cut it when you start off with less than perfect material and are looking to smooth things out in general.
    So if i buy FCP can i finsh my project?
    Will my macbook pro handle it for now?
    2.4Ghz Intel Core Duo Processor,
    2GB 1067 Mhz DDR3 Memory,
    Thanks for any information.

    You can open FCE projects in Final Cut Pro.
    Work on a copy of your project file -there's no going back.
    Your MacBook Pro will handle Final Cut Studio fine.

  • File Compression Problem

    Hello all,
    I'm having a strange file compression problem with CS5 on our new Mac Pro.  We purchased the Mac Pro to scan and process images, but the JPEGs and GIFs we create from this computer are much larger than they should be when closed (e.g. images that should be compressed to 6KB are reading as 60KB, and the file size is often smaller when opened than closed). Furthermore, anytime we use these image files in other programs (e.g. Filemaker Pro) the inflated file size will carry over.  What's even more puzzling is that the same files that are reading as 60KB on our Mac Pro will read correctly as 6KB from a PC.  Similarly, if we embed these images -- that were created on the Mac Pro -- into Filemaker from a PC, the image file size is correct.  We cannot use the compressed files we create on our Mac Pro because the inflated file size will be passed on to whatever application we use on the Mac Pro (except for Photoshop).
    We have been processing images for years on a PC and haven't had any troubles with this.   We were thinking for a while that the problem was with the Mac operating system, but after many calls with expert Apple advisers it seems like Photoshop for Mac has to be the issue.  We have already tried reformatting and re-indexing the hard drive, and at this point there is nothing else that can be done from Apple's end.  The last expert I spoke with at Apple said that it sounds like the way Photoshop for Mac compresses files and how Mac reads file sizes is very different from the way Photoshop for PC compresses files and how Windows reads file sizes.  If he was correct, and there is no work-around, we'll have no other choice and will have to return our Mac.
    Has anyone else experienced this before?  The experts at Apple were thoroughly confused by the problem and so are we.
    Thanks,
    Jenny

    This has nothing to do with compression.
    Macintosh saves more metadata, and more previews than Windows - that's one part.
    Macintosh shows the size of the file on disk, including wasted space due to the disk block size - that's another part. (look at the byte count, not the size in K or MB).
    When you upload the files to a server, or use them in most programs, that extra metadata is lost and the file sizes should be identical.
    I can't believe that your advisors spent any time on such a trivial issue...

  • Lost my audio to all FCE files

    I recently was shown how to trash my preference files to allow me to connect a new camera. Tonight I have had similar problems with another camera, and like before I have trashed my preference files using Preference Manager. I can now see the camera through the capture window, however I appear to have lost sound on all my FCE files.
    Help!!

    "I recently was shown how to trash my preference files to allow me to connect a new camera. "
    I do not understand what or why this is necessary?
    Can you expand the explantion of why you need to trash the Preferences to connect a camera?
    "I can now see the camera through the capture window, however I appear to have lost sound on all my FCE files."
    There is no audio during capture but if there is no audio when you play the files in the Viewer after capture then there is an issue.
    At what stage is the no audio issue?

  • FCE file won't open after upgrading to Leopard

    After upgrading a Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 from OS 10.4.x Tiger to OS 10.5.8 Leopard, a Final Cut Express file on an external HD will no longer open. The error message is “File Error: Access Denied.”
    Other files on the external drive using other applications launch with no problem.
    The FCE file opens OK on another Mac running OS 10.6.
    Any suggestions?

    Different OSes handle it differently, besides the normally hidden UIDs.

  • GZIP Compression Issue in Weblogic 8.1

    Has anyone experienced issues with gzip compression filtering in 8.1?
    After about 2 months of dev. and testing with the filter, a bug has been found
    in our portal, and I have traced it back to the filter that I downloaded from
    dev2dev code and utilities.
    It is strange. The only time I see an issue is when a user clicks the "back button"
    in the browser itself to go back to a previous page, AND then clicks a link (for
    example) in a portlet that is tied to an action in a jpf for that portlet. The
    error only happens for actions in a portlet that are local to that portlet (no
    forwarding to other portlets or anything fancy)...just pure "local internal forwards."
    If you do this, USING THE BACK BUTTON to get back to this page with the portlet,
    when you click the action, you are actually taken to the page where you were when
    you clicked the back button.
    I have re-created this is simple portals that have no content, so I know it is
    not something else I introduced.
    Any ideas? Maybe it is the filter-mapping pattern I am using??? I am currently
    mapping on *.portal, but this is the only situation that seems to break.

    For those interested, I have some updates on this subject and someone out there sent me a mail asking if I ever found anything out.
    Basically, when I encountered this issue the first time, I was working on a SP2 Portal. We were having numerous small bugs like this one with SP2 that centered around the back button or refresh button. BEA gave us a "super patch" back in July or so that when applied to our SP2 project, fixed our issue. I have sense moved onto SP3, and I did not see the compression issue (so I think SP3 must have the patches correctly setup...like I would assume it would).

  • PS CS3, Camera Raw 4.6 Update and Nikon D810 NEF File Reading Issue

      Currently Have Photoshop CS3 & Adobe Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9.
    According to Adobe, Camera Raw 4.6 supports Nikon D810 NEF files.  I have downloaded Camera Raw 4.6 Update. When
    I try to open Nikon D810 NEF files, I get Photoshop CS3  error that says
    "cannot complete request your because it is not the right kind of
    document. These NEF files wont open in Adobe Bridge at all.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hey,
    Before I purchased, let me get your thoughts on another option that just occurred to me which involves:
    1)Editing my D810 NEF files in LR 5.6, which I have, then exporting/saving the edited files as JPEGs.
    2) Doing any additional editing, as necessary (i.e. that might require layering or selections..etc) , with the JPEGs  with Bridge or PS CS3.
    This method wont involve any additional software purchase now.. right?    Am I missing anything.   here?    Since my final output to my customers are JPEGs any way, wont this work?   Will I be at any disadvantage.   Am I missing anything.   here?

  • Fce files for web

    Hi. Could someone please explain the best way to put a FCE video file on a website in the highest possible quality for clients. These files are about 200MB as Quicktime files. I would like the files to play when clicked without making visitors choose quicktime or media player. I believe that I need to make a flash file, but am sooooo not a technical person in this regard. So my questions are:
    How should I save my FCE file (what compressor)?
    What software should I use to encode for the web to give me the best quality? I have read about some flash converters.
    Any help would be so very appreciated.
    Humbly yours, jo

    Joardy,
    I don't have a lot of experience doing this, but here' what has worked for me.
    Export a QuickTime movie from FCE, then open it in QuickTime.
    In QuickTime: File -> Export
    Export as "Movie to QuickTime Movie"
    under Options, Settings: H.264, keyframe every 75 frames, compressor quality "high", data rate: restrict to 220 kbits/sec, optimized for streaming
    No filters
    Size 320x240
    Then I check the "Prepare for Internet Streaming" box and choose "Hinted Streaming"
    Here's a link to a 2:14 clip I exported with those settings. It is 4.3 megs.
    <http://www.wjma.radiohistory.net/linked%20images/Red%20Shipley.mov>
    (I know there are some lower track images showing at the edges of the QuickTime frame. These don't show on a TV.)
    Tom says some PC users have problems with QuickTime, but in my limited experience, this has not been a problem. Or maybe no one told me they had trouble.
    I'd certainly welcome suggestions to improve what I'm doing.

  • File Compression Error Occurred on Expert Settings

    I finally thought I had a decent set of settings to compress the QT movie for YouTube (and will tweak this now that each ten minute movie can be 1 gig! Hooray!). So I used what had worked on the previous movies and got the error
    File Compression Error Occurred
    The movie could not be properly compressed. The movie may contain some data that is invalid for the type of compression selected.
    The movie itself contains imported footage from my camcorder (DV), as I usually use. And I used only iMovie stock music loops and one Sfx...all aif files.
    I've tried tweaking the settings of Expert Settings here and there. Changed the 15 fps to 30. Made the Key At this point, what do I look at? Something within the movie itself? Or the settings (H.264, qual. Hi but also tried med, Frame rate tried 15 and 30, Key frame rate tried Auto and 10, Encoding multi-pass, Dimen. 640x480, Scale Letterbox. Sound is ACC, 24,000 kHz, stereo, bit rate 48kbps. Prepare for internet streaming is unchecked currently. Think it was that way when I last made a movie.
    Don't know where to continue to troubleshoot this. URmpfff. Help!

    Wow...this is a sticky problem. I could not resave the movie as another name. Frozen program, pinwheel of death, etc. I've had about three frozen attempts since I first wrote...
    Googling phrase from error message got only a few lost souls who never did post the solution. One solution someone had figured the problem was with Flip4Mac...to uninstall it, but they had problems uninstalling it. So did it...frozen computer).
    I did get this solution to work to move my movie along. It saved rather quickly to a 350 meg or so full quality file on Expert settings. Then got a single .dv file. Imported that into a new iMovie project (wonderful....that I titled My Great Movie fer petes sake...Hope I remember to retitle it.
    Along the way were error messages like Error 54, no permission to write to file, no hard drive space, etc. Baloney, I think...or is there any clue in all this?
    Thanks.

  • File Compression

    I have a web service created in a .net environment that examines existing pdf files in a staging directory prior to sending them over the wire using FTP.
    Part of that process requires that I rename individual files in order to associate them with a particular batch.
    I also have a requirement to reduce the size of individual files as much as possible in order to reduce the traffic going over the line.
    So far I have managed about a 30% compression rate by using an open source library (iTextSharp).
    I  am hoping that I can get a better compression rate using the Acrobat SDK, but I need someone to show me how, hopefully with an example that I can follow.
    The following code snippet is a model I wrote that accomplishes the rename and file compression...
                const string filePrefix = "19512-";
                string[] fileArray = Directory.GetFiles(@"c:\temp");
                foreach (var pdffile in fileArray) {
                    string[] filePath = pdffile.Split('\\');
                    var newFile = filePath[0] + '\\' + filePath[1] + '\\' + filePrefix + filePath[2];
                    var reader = new PdfReader(pdffile);
                    var stamper = new PdfStamper(reader, new FileStream(newFile, FileMode.Create), PdfWriter.VERSION_1_5);
                    int pageNum = 1;
                    for (int i = 1; i <= pageNum; i++) {
                        reader.SetPageContent(i, reader.GetPageContent(i), PdfStream.BEST_COMPRESSION);
                    stamper.Writer.CompressionLevel = PdfStream.BEST_COMPRESSION;
                    stamper.FormFlattening = true;
                    stamper.SetFullCompression();
                    stamper.Close();
    Any assistance is appreciated.

    Then you better ask in the Acrobat SDK forum.

  • JPEG File Compression

    I just found out that when raw files are converted (via the export function) to jpeg, the file compression is extremely low. MY posted online picture quality certainly reflects the low jpeg file size.
    When I export pictures, I get several choices, but none of the choices allows me to set the jpeg compression to a "high" level.
    Can someone help me maximize my converted jpeg file size. I shot with a 21 megapixel camera and end up with a 1mb file (not good)

    Thank you Ian ... I appreciate your quick reply. It seems that after I upgraded my camera from a Canon xti to a Canon 5D Mark II and from a PC to an iMac, I find that I am very ignorant of photography and post processing.
    The combination of equipment above with Aperture is causing me huge problems since I can not get the picture quality (on screen or prints) that I got from the xti and pc. My pictures were post card quality - the upgraded equipment combination is giving me poor quality photo's. Very frustrating. I wonder where I can go for help ?
