FCE freezes when loading project

Hello everyone!
I have a problem when loading a final cut express project. The program freezes when its in the process of opening the file.
Here is a link to a video so you can see whats happening.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/18576059/iouiou.mov
I have tried to wait for over 8 hours to see if it would eventually start but no. It´s still just the "ball of death"
Hopefully someone have a solution for this.
I use a 2011 27 Imac with 6 GB of ram and a i5 processor.
Running Lion
If you need any more info just ask!
Sincerly Henrik

The movies are .mov with H.264-MPEG4 kodec.
I think that you are right about the codec creating the problem, because only projects with this codec is freezing. I checked all my projects and those with different codecs was working fine.
I have no problem opening a new project.
Does this mean that I have to convert the movies and reedit everything or can a just convert the clips to a propper format and then reconnect them?
Thanks for your help!
Sincerely Henrik

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 keeps freezing when loading projects from Premiere Pro CC

    Hi everyone,
I'm reporting this issue in case someone else would have the same problem.
I just downloaded the 2014 version of Premiere Pro CC, and when I'm loading a project from Premiere Pro CC into CC2014 I have the software freezing and being unable to even play the loaded sequences. It seems that dynamic link is having trouble linking the CC and the CC2014 version of Premiere Pro.
Until now the only solution I found was to kill the process of the software and start it again, after 8 times I got my sequence loaded alright, then sometimes it is freezing again, killing process, starting software again, and so on. Does anyone has the same problem ?
I'm running a Windows 7 Ultimate PC with 12Go RAM dedicated only to Premiere Pro.
    Cheers,
    Vincent

    Hi Vincent,
I feel your pain, you are not alone. Here are my machine specs and my very frustrating situation, if anyone has any idea as to how I should move forward, I would really appreciate the input/advice...
    iMac - 27" Late 2013
Processor  3.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  12 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
I'm having similar issues that began when I installed Premiere Pro CC 2014, and actually got worse with the latest update/release. The majority of my projects worked fine at first, but the update last week ended that quickly. I did what I know I never should do and updated Adobe CC while completing a project on a deadline. I thought some of the fixes would help me complete the project sooner. Needless to say, the deadline has passed, my client is pissed enough to not pay me or hire me again and I'm stuck with an almost-there version that I can't export correctly because of this software. This is my problem, not Adobe's, but I didn't expect such a detrimental update to halt my operation.
After doing some research, I found that some plugins could be the cause of some specific editing issues, mainly due to incorrect or inaccessible folders - who knows if its Dynamic Link, CC apps or 2014 apps. I concluded that my issue at the time was a plugin permissions issue on the Adobe "Preference" Folder, so I reset the permissions on the folder so that CC and 2014 apps would be able to access its contents without any problems. This was the wrong decision. For some reason, resetting this folders permissions also effected the main HDD, it's Kernel Text files and their respective permission. I could not boot my machine, just got the Apple and spinning wheel until I had to power down. I ended up on the phone with 3 different AppleCare reps who helped me at least be able to turn the machine back on and access my desktop/files, apps, etc. Outside of this, no one could offer anything other than "Uninstall the problematic application, reboot, reinstall, etc..." or "Backup your files and reimage the HDD." When I mentioned the recent CUDA driver update for my graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB now running CUDA Driver Version: 6.0.51), it was like they had never heard of graphics cards being used in their machines.
Resetting permissions on Adobe Preference Folder...
This is what I read would get the CC and 2014 apps communicating correctly so that they could utilize my plugins. There is a problem, I believe, in that their are TOO MANY locations where Adobe folders/components live. There are 3 "Preferences" folders that I found, and I don't know which effects what process, but the folder I changed permissions on clearly effects the operation of all of the CC & 2014 apps I had installed, as well as my HDD. Kernel Extensions and the entire system.
Based on my perceived effects of the Preference folder, I needed to uninstall everything, run the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool, download/install just the 2014 releases and see if that resolved the issue. I'm not downloading CC apps, the 2014 releases should run fine on their own. I've yet to confirm this with Adobe, as what I've read has simply said to install the new release next to the CC apps, rather than on top of, as traditional update releases work. Anyway, one by one, I reinstalled the 14 apps that I use on a regular basis on a "clean" machine with no trace of previous Adobe apps.
After reinstalling (without any plugins), I was at least able to open Premiere Pro from the Application folder and work for a few minutes before both Program and Source monitors froze and had to force quit the app. If I try to open the Project File by double clicking it in the Finder, SpeedGrade opens up instead of Premiere Pro - never seen that before. I also had to force quit to end that process and reopen in Premiere instead of SpeedGrade.
So back to Premiere, if I do have success in opening a project in the right application, Premiere freezes - if not immediately, eventually it will just stop responding. The video clips, sequence segments and UI freeze, but the audio will keep playing until I force quit. When I force quit, Premiere Pro doesn't close entirely. The UI closes, but the process still runs. I've even force quit from Finder, force quit again from the Dock, Shut Down the machine, restarted and Premiere Pro will still be open, but "Not Responding", so I force quit again and open the project. Just now, I opened PP, made minor edits to a sequence, sent it to Media Encoder, exported, but the video I tested exported without audio. I force quite PP twice just before that and it is still running now, but again, it is "not responding".
Ultimately, none of this works, nor have my attempts at resolving these many issues. One thing I know is that there is something VERY WRONG with either the latest release/update to 2014 apps, the Preference folder or the permissions that were changed.
As I mentioned previously, and what I think is a major oversight by someone at Adobe, is that for some reason the permission changes to ONE Adobe folder also effected my entire system and Macintosh HD. Some Kernel Extension files went missing, which is never good and should not happen when resetting folder permissions, so I believe my issues are far greater than the faulty Adobe CC 2014 applications, and is the cause of many of my problems right now. If I can't get things sorted soon, I'm going to reimage my HDD and start from scratch. As much as I would like to avoid this, I really have no choice if I want to get back to work and not lose clients over inexplicable technology issues.
If I find a solution, I will repost, but I think Adobe has to make some serious fixes on this release before anything is resolved entirely. I pay them monthly and rely on their software and platform to work without issue, which is foolish - I know, but I've used CC since it was introduced and it has work well enough until now.
Is there anyone at Adobe that can offer some advice??

  • AE cs5 freezes when loading project

Mac Pro Tower (2009), quadcore, 8 gigs of ram, 20% free on System HD. Cache cleaned and emptied on all CS5 products. Running up to date CS5.
I was exporting a file after small tweaks in the timeline to a PNG Quicktime , and all hell has broken lose. AE froze when i pressed render, and i had to force quit. From then on, i have not been able to open any project that has a dynamic link, premiere sequence or QT movie. It starts to open the project and then hangs like the dialog box in the preview window shows. Shutting down QT32 Server does not help. Shutting down Time Machine does not help. Making the QT movies offline does not help. starting a new project and then importing the old projects that are in question does not help. These files worked just minutes before, and now, they do not. Please help me.
At one time, i was so excited about dynamic link and the integration btw all these tools. It seemed so promising.  But working on a mac with cs5 has been a nightmare. If you have any suggestions to what format i should convert any of my footage to in order to not use Quicktime File types, that would be nice. Otherwise, please find a way to get Quicktime to work well with CS5.

I would like to update everyone on the nightmare i have been experiencing this week. To recap, i could not open projects that have dynamic links. We were successful finally being able to open up the projects on other computers and eliminated any problematic files that stalled the open. We were able to open projects that were crashing on open, before. We can export from the programs, but we cannot export through media encoder. Media Encoder connects to the dynamic link server, but does not open and display the sequences in a premiere project or an after effects project . it just shows a blank dialog box, instead of the available sequences from the project.
We have a theory. With a very skilled colleague, we dug deep into the recesses of OS X and found some interesting things. One, QT32 server and dynamic link seem to be working correctly through TCP.  They contact the codecs written in the library, and it makes no difference if third party codecs are installed. Instead, it seems that there is a strange relationship with the drive that contains the assets. It may be an indication of a more systemic error in permissions (even though the drive is set to not have any permission settings). Something is stopping the files from being used by media encoder. i am able to export from the programs. We think that this error occurs during exports as well. During export of video files or image sequences, random frames will show this:
As if the program lost connection with the file types during the render.
I still cannot use CS5 in its intended way.  I hope the forum can help in finally pinpointing this problem.

  • Extension Manager CS6 freezes when loading extensions

Extension Manager CS6 freezes when loading extensions
When launching Extension Manager CS6 it starts loading extensions but totally freezes when the last 30 percent of the loading extension bar is still unaccomplished. It is not possible to close the window, not even with the task manager.  I have restart the computer to get rid of it.
My OS is Windows 7, 64 bit. The most recent versions of the entire Adobe CS family are installed, freshly updated, including the Extension Manager CS6.
To trace the cause of the problem I tried to create a log file in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Extension Manager CS6. I logged in as administrator and wrote in the Command Prompt Window:
    echo > ExManLog.YES
The log file was created but contains nothing but "ECHO is on".
A possible cause of the problem might be that I have two installed active version of Ajatix Advanced CSS Drop Down Menu, which is an add-on to Dreamweaver. The first version is the free one, the second is the full paid version. I would like to deactivate the first one since which might make the Extension Manager happier. But the only way to deactivate it that I know of is to use the Extension Manager. Catch 22.

Dear Carl, thanks for the advice that made me understand how to remove an extension without using the Extension Manager. However, the problem persists, i.e the Extension Manager freezes soon after it is launched, when the last 30 percent of the loading extension bar is still unaccomplished.
Following your instruction I have tried to remove both my versions of the troublesome DW extension (Ajatix Advanced CSS Drop Down Menu). Which in my case meant that I deleted the following files:
    the files com.ajatix.AdvancedCSSMenuLight.mxi, com.ajatix.AdvancedCSSMenuLight.mxi_air and com.ajatix.AdvancedCSSMenuLight.zxp in C:\Users\<My UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Extension Manager CS6\EM Store\Dreamweaver CS6
    and the files ajxcssmenu2.3.0.mxi, ajxcssmenu2.3.0.mxi_air and ajxcssmenu2.3.0.mxp in C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Extension Manager CS6\EM Store\Dreamweaver CS6
In the hope of cleaning out everything from this extension I have also deleted the following files:
    AJXCSSMenu.chm, AJXCSSMenu.dll in C:\Users\UpdatusUser\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS6\en_US\Configuration\JSExtensions
    and AJXCSSMenu.chm, AJXCSSMenu.dll, AJXCSSMenuLight.chm, AJXCSSMenuLight.dll in C:\Users\ipb-master\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS6\en_US\Configuration\JSExtensions
Every time I thus get rid of the Ajitex files the Extension Manager seems happy and loads the only extension I currently have left (Adobe exchange). However when I reinstall the Ajitex extension, the Extension Manager behaves in the same bad manner, freezes after approximately 70 percent of the process of loading extensions. Same thing when I remove this extension and try to install another from Ajitex (Email Spam Blocker). It seems to install all right but afterward the Extension Manager freezes when launched.
Don't know what to do now.

CC illustrator freezes when loading. What to do?

What OS? What version of AI? Do you get any error messages? New computer?

  • After updating my plugins firefox 5.0.1 still hangs/freezes when loading web pages.

After making sure my plug-ins were updated, firefox 5.0.1 hangs/freezes when loading web pages.

I changed the setting, but unfortunately, this didn't fix the problem. This situation does seem to occur more, when I load or reload my eBay home page. I noticed that all data and information would go ahead and load, but the random ads bar would not immediately load and when I would left click anywhere on the page, Firefox would temporarily freeze, the page turns white, Firefox not responding will display, and then the banner would load and everything is fine. I'm wondering if it has something to do with my Flash Player. Any additional suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Reggie

  • Safari slow and freezes when loading pages

Hi I've been having a problem with Safari for the past few months it frequently freezes when loading web pages, sometimes it will eventually load, other times it wont. the blue progress bar in the address bar stops on about 10% with a plain white page it doesn't happen all the time but disturbingly it happens on pages as simple as Google search, not just data heavy sites. other symptoms include having to click links several times to get them to respond and I get the you are not connected to the Internet page when I go to some sites only to try another page from my bookmarks and it will load perfectly.
Any help greatly appreciated its driving me nuts.

I only posted the other post because I hadnt anticipated getting such a quick responce from you , Im on a tight deadline for work and I needed to get this problem sorted a.s.a.p, I didnt think that anybody else would hop onto this discussion Anyway heres the output I get

  • Freezing when opening project in CS5.5 Windows 7

I've read where uses have been hainvg issue loading projects with linked objects like Premiere sequences.  I'm having such an issue where I can load 16% of the project and then Encore freezes and crashes.  I've deleted all the preferences and media cache files as described in one of the articles.  I've also loaded the project in Premiere before opening Encore to no avail.
I had changed the media cache from my main OS drive to my drive with the most stoage.  Once that occured I have yet to be able to open this project.  I need it opened desperately so I can finish this for my client.
I'm running Windows 7 64bit CS5.5 and yes I am the administrator of the machine.  This is the only thing holding me up as my project is done and is ready to be burned.
    Thank you

Try trashing your preferences in the default account.  I don't know if you got to item 12 in that list, so here it is:
    12. Re-create the Adobe Encore Preferences files.
Some problems may be caused by a damaged Preferences file.
To automatically re-create the Adobe Encore <version number> preferences file:
Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys while choosing Start > Programs > Adobe Encore <version number>. Release the keys after several seconds. The application will not start at this point, but the preferences file will be deleted.
Choose Start > Programs > Adobe Encore <version number> again to start the application. A new preferences file is created when the application starts.
Note: This procedure will not re-create the preferences for workspaces, zoom levels, or default library items. To do so, manually re-create the Adobe Encore <version number> preferences files.
To manually re-create the Adobe Encore <version number> preferences files:
      Delete the following folder:
      On Windows Vista: C:\Users\ [user name] \AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Encore\<version number>.
Choose Start > Programs > Adobe Encore <version number> to start the application. New preferences files are created when the application starts.

  • IDVD08 freezes when loading media

Most of them are AVI files (Xvid and Divx) which I installed proper codec. I don't know why the program freeze when I try to load the media tab to put some movies into the DVD.

I have exactly the same problem and after try almost all possibilities including:
    1 reinstalling SL
    2 reinstalling ilife 09
    3 delete idvd preference
Problem continues....however here it was way to solved and hope can help you.
Create a new user and test imovie, idvd and all other ilife apps and loading imovie projects. It works with a new user. That only means that one of the libraries of ilife is corrupted.
GO back to your old user account and remove all imovie projects and create a new iphoto library. It problem is solved then one of the videos on one of the libraries is corrupted. Go back to your old iphoto library first and put all videos you have on your iphoto on the trash (temp). Check it, if works only you need to do the videos one by one to the iphoto library until to find it. Same procedure with your imovie projects and events.
In my case it was a corrupted event in imovie that freeze all the apps in ilife.
    Hope that helps.

  • Elements 11 Organiser freezes when loading

When loading Elements 11 the Organiser freezes, Edit loads OK.  I have followed all the suggestions in the Forum and I have found that when setting up a new account, it works OK but the original account doesn't work.  The Forum suggests ask the administrator, but I haven't got one.  Help please.
    Thanks

You mention stopping active file monitor, but you don't say anything about stopping autoanalyzer, which is far more likely to cause this than anything mentioned in your post. (organizer preferences>media analysis, shut off everything except face recognition, if you use that)
Incidentally, the chat line et al are not "ours", since this is the user to user forum and we are just other customers like you, not Adobe employees.

  • Firefox sometimes freezes when loading new pages

I have had an issue for several months now & any help with it would be gratefully appreciated.
Quite often, when loading a new page, Firefox will hang for up to 30 seconds; the loading circle in the left hand corner of the tab will freeze & I will be locked out of the browser. That website's usually then fine for the rest of the session, but if I close and reopen Firefox the same thing will happen again.
I have tried other browsers such a IE, and the same thing also happens there. My laptop is becoming quite claggy in general, but I'm hoping I can at least find a solution to this!

Do you get a dialog saying a script is running slowly with Stop/Continue buttons, or does the problem just clear up without any messages?
    Two other thoughts:
    (1) To diagnose a possible Flash issue, you can switch the Shockwave Flash plugin to "Ask to Activate." The page should load the non-Flash components first. If it's just as slow, then we can rule out Flash as a potential culprit, but if it's much faster, that would be useful to know.
You can make the change on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Then use the drop-down list for Shockwave Flash to select "Ask to Activate."
Sites that use Flash will generate a notification icon on the address bar, and either a link will appear in the black rectangle where you normally get videos loading automatically, or an infobar will slide down between the toolbar area and the page.
    (2) About 8 months ago, a user with an enormous font collection discovered that when visiting pages that use downloadable fonts for the first time during a session, Firefox would hang for 3 minutes. ([https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/957111 Firefox hangs on Websites (example: g2play.net)]) I don't know whether this is still a problem, but if you have tons of fonts, as a diagnostic, you could temporarily disable downloadable fonts.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box that appears above the list, type or paste '''gfx''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled''' preference to switch its value from true to false.
I say temporary because many sites now use fancy fonts to display little icons instead of using images. With downloadable fonts disabled, these icons turn into tall rectangles with two rows of two characters (in other words, useless).

  • Starcraft 2 freezes when loading.

I have had starcraft for a few months now and it has not given me any trouble. But for some reason, this morning it freezes whenever run with wine. I played it yesterday, did not update anything, and it worked fine.
I then updated all of my software, but the problem persisted. I also removed all configuration problems, and SC still freezes when it runs.
The freeze occurs right after the game loading screen, and before the user login window is displayed. When SC freezes, one of my cores is stuck at 100% usage.
I'm running Arch 64 bit, have an NVIDIA 9600M GT graphics card, all of my drivers and software are recent.
I am particularly confused by this since I literally did nothing to my system before SC started freezing. Below is the output from wine.

I am having this exact same issue on ubuntu. I'm running wine-1.3.5 which version are you using?
Also, a friend of mine had a similar issue under windows where the game would freeze before displaying the login screen. Seems it was the Defense+ system. Now this does not make sense for wine but what it does seem is that if the socket create / bind operation halts the game locks up. If the problem is similar someone did something to wine's networking.
I'm also getting an error about internal dll mmdevaip.dll not loading. If I remember correctly that needs to be disabled in your wine config. I checked this and attempted setting then unsettling it to no effect.
Edit: Running starcraft with winedbg Starcraft\ II.exe command line seems to work. Once you have done this once starcraft works with normal wine. I have no idea why but it worked for me.
NOTE: once winedbg starts you will need to type cont then hit enter. Once you get to the login screen exit and run starcraft normally.

  • FF4 freezes when loading default homepage, Google and when using search engines

Whenever I open FF4, it will freeze/hang when loading the default homepage, Google.
Same with the problem on other search engines, Yahoo!, MSN, Bing, etc.
    Search engines main problem.

Do you have the McAfee Site Advisor installed? If so, remove it from your PC and try using any search engine with FF. Removing the Site Advisor worked for me, seems like FF 4 b10 isn't compatible with the Site Advisor.

  • Firefox freezes when loading some web pages then the computer locks up

Sometimes, when loading a website, the browser freezes. Then the computer locks up and I have to use the power button to turn it off. There seems to be no pattern to this problem. I'm also not sure whether or not the problem begins within Firefox, but a web page was loading every time it happened. It has only started happening this week.

I seem to be having a very similar, if not exactly the same issue. I'm using the latest production FF 11.0 release on Win7 64 and as with this not only does FF freeze, but I can't task switch, or anything. The one thing I've noticed is that when the lockup happens, it always appears to be loading some custom font from a CDN, if I breathe deeply and slowly and allow the request to complete everything seems to eventually unfreeze and I can continue, so maybe something to do with implementation of custom font loading?
