FCE Freezes while importing video

While importing video, FCE freezes, usually within 3-4 minutes of capture. I have to force quit. I am using Capture Now. I have no problem importing with iMovie. In fact I've been importing in to iMovie and then copying the clips into FCE to get around the freeze. I have my clips saved to a 500GB external drive and my camcorder is a Panasonic PVGS-300. I have imported into FCE many times before. This is the first time this has occurred and I haven't changed anything in my setup or added anything to the system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I'm having the same problem.
Yesterday, I captured 45 minutes in 4 minute sections, and spent the morning editing.
It got slower & slower & slower.
I saved all, quit & browsed the internet for a while.
The computer continued to whir for some time.
I went back into FCE & it was back up to speed.
I suspect imminent hard drive failure.
Does anyone have an opinion on my diagnosis?

  • Help: iMac freeze while watching video

    Hello,
Since Lion I sometimes have a serious freeze while watching videos.
It does not occur very often, it happens every month or so.
After upgrade to Mountain Lion I thought it would not happen anymore but this problem still persists.
Since Lion I had freezes while watching video on Youtube, with MplayerX, QuickTimePlayer, VLC and so on.
All freezes occured only in Fullscreen mode.
When my iMac is stuck the Display shows the current Video frame and plays a small fraction of the current audio in a loop.
The Keyboard and Mouse is unresponsive.
At this point the only option for me is to force a restart.
Does someone know a solution for this?
    LightReaper
    My specification:
    iMac 24 inch (early 2009)
3,06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8GB 1067Mhz DDR3
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 512MB
    OSX 10.8

First do what whyisitsohard (HUH?) suggests. If that does not resolve the issue take a look at how much free space is available on your Hard drive. I would not recommend running Mac OS X with less than 10% free space remaining on your startup volume. The free space is used for hidden swap files that Mac OS X needs do to virtual memory, and for other temporary files used by the system. Once free space gets low, the remaining free space becomes more and more fragmented into small pieces. That makes it hard for Mac OS X to operate efficiently. This issue is most apparent when watching videos.

  • Safari keeps freezing while watching videos

As the title says, Safari freezes while I watch films/TV shows on SkyGo, though it is fine when I watch videos on YouTube/LoveFilm and when I use SkyGoDesktop. I can only watch about 5 or 10 minutes of anything on SkyGo online before it freezes and the spinning coloured wheel appears - every Safari window/tab I have open freezes, not just the one containing SkyGo. It used to work fine until a few days/weeks ago, but even after updating the system on my MacBook, it freezes
I have logged on to my laptop as a Guest user, and it freezes then as well.
So... how can I fix this problem please?
    Thank you for your help!

I have exactly the same issue! Late 2008 MBP freezing and looping the audio. I just two days ago did an erase and install of 10.6, did all the software updates and have as clean a system as you could imagine. I had a freeze tonight exactly as you described while using BBC iPlayer (based on Adobe Air I think) using the 9600M GT. I just bought Applecare before the first year was up because I intend to bug the heck out of Apple to get this fixed!
I made a short video on my mobile phone of the frozen machine - I'll put this on my iDisk and email you a link to download it if you like. You can then show this to the techs and at least explain that yours is the same.

  • Trouble while importing video frames

Earlier today I tried making a gif and while importing the layers I wasn't able to click play to preview the section I wanted to import because this popup appeared:
And I while I ignored it the first couple times I think it also affected the video frames since the the last ones seemed the same frame repeating over and over.
Does anybody know what does it mean and if there's a way to fix it? Thanks!

I looked a bit further into it and it seems the video is the one that has an issue, I tried importing frames from a different one and it worked just fine.
    Thanks anyways!

  • IMovie freezes when importing video

I am using iMovie 10.0.6 and trying to import video from a JVC Everio GM-HM320BU.  I have been importing video without problems for quite some time, but always from the main memory of the camcorder.  Recently I had to record some video on the SD card installed in the camcorder as extra memory.  I received the error message "iMovie cannot import your selection" and iMovie froze.  I had to "force quit" iMovie.  After reading a bit, I realized I should have imported the video on the SD card via a card reader and that it cannot be import in the usual manner.
But now I get the same message from iMovie every time I try to import video, even from the main memory of the camcorder, and iMovie freezes.  It appears iMovie needs to be reset so it can import video from the main memory.  HELP.

Sounds like an elegant solution if in fact you have iLife '06 from which to restore. For those of us that have recently purchased an Apple product (because "it just works") this is not a viable option. I'm not going to go out and purchase any previous versions of iLife when I paid for what is supposed to be the latest greatest. Obviously the solution already exists because it was working fine before the last update, seems to me that it should be simple enough to turn back the clock a little so that we can all get back to work. Don't get me wrong I'm happy for you that you've found a solution, I'd probably do the same thing if I could. Right now my strategy is to continue to complain until something gets done, I encourage everyone that has this issue to weigh in. As for now my "work around" is to back to my PC based computer to download and edit all my video. "How do you like them apples", Apple.

  • Screen freezes while recording video.

Screen freezes while recording. I'm recording a video from Safari 7.1 using Quick Time Player 10.3 in OS10.9.5. The picture freezes after about an hour and a quarter. I'm using SoundFlower to capture the audio; the audio continues to flow and record while the picture remains static.

Hi again, I have found a solution for this! Go to the video in your iTunes library, and right click. Go to "Options" and then uncheck "Remember playback position". Once I did this the videos all played fine on my iPod.. they just won't keep track of where you left off. Hope this helps you both as well!

  • Itunes freezing while importing a certain cd?

I am trying to import "Audioslave" by Audioslave and it keeps freezing while trying to import the second track on this album. When this happens I am forced to eject the cd to get itunes to respond. If I uncheck all but the second track, the rest of the cd will import fine. The cd is in fairly rough condition, with some scratches, but I thought if this was what caused the problem the cd would not import at all. Would this cause it to freeze like this or is it something else? What other issues could cause this?
    Thanks

That sounds like the problem is in the CD. But first, if you have not checked the error correction box, check it and try to import that track again. If no joy, rip that track in another program, such as Windows Media Player or CDex.
If those don't help, the next thing to do is to get one of those services that will re-surface your CD for a few bucks, to solve the scratch problem. If all else fails, buy that one track from your favorite online music download store.

  • Iphoto 11 is freezing on importing videos

3 questions I hope some can help me with
    1. Every time I try to import videos the "Import Preparing to import" Icon shows but then locks up. I have to Force Quit (get application not responding message) to get out of iPhoto
    2. My old videos thumbnails have lost the link to the original file. So we I try to play these videso I get the exclamation point
    3. How do I reconnect these videso in the library
I have also rebuilt Photo Library several times with no fix.
    Any thoughts anyone?
    John

Not sure if this is an iPhoto issue, it maybe an OS one. But reinstall iPhoto, see if that fixes it. If not then it'll be the OS you're doing next.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Dropped frames while importing video

Hello - Apple has temporarily disabled search functionality in the discussion groups, so it's hard for me to know if this question has already been asked / answered. So, here goes:
After successfully importing video into my Mac Pro from my Sony mini-DV Handicam, I've suddenly gotten the error message in Final Cut Pro (Studio 1) that says, "Dropped frames were detected in the last attempt" on each import using many different tapes. I did not make any config changes (at least intentionally) to cause this and I'm wondering if there is something I'm missing.
    Thank you.

I'm capturing to my internal hard drive which has appx. 158 GB available, so I do not think that is the problem.
If you're capturing to your boot drive, that could very well be the problem (data throughput errors). The boot drive is busy enough running the OS, the FCP application, reading/writing to your FCP project file and any other processes that may be going on in the background. Trying to make it also write massive AV files at the same time is asking a bit much for it to do without encountering errors.
If you're capturing to another internal hard drive (the Mac Pro can handle 4 drives), then I'd say the problem was elsewhere.

  • IDVD 08 freezes while importing from camera for OneStep DVD

I am importing video from a Sony camcorder (dv) as the first step in a onestep DVD process. I have tried two different tapes and it has frozen both times - once at 14 min. and the second at 19 min. It seems to be in the middle of a scene in both cases. The camera is still running, but iDVD is no longer importing and is reported as "No Response". Have to Force Quit.
    Any ideas?

I appreciate the disk space problem, as the first time I tried to capture, it ran out of space on my internal drive. That's when I moved the capture to the firewire drive.
So I checked the internal drive - 13.6GB available before capture. In addition, I monitored it throughout the capture process (using the application "What Size", which tells you how big all your files are) and found it stayed stable throughout the capture sequence.
Meanwhile, the firewire drive showed the captured file to be growing as it captured more video. I've tried to capture this particular tape twice, and I see that it froze with the captured file size at EXACTLY the same size: 4,294,934,528 bytes. This is about 19 min, 53 sec. of video.
I wonder if a) it only really works capturing to the internal drive, or b) if something got messed up when I ran out of space the first time. I think it did capture all or most of the tape when I ran it the first time on the internal drive.
I guess I could clear more space on the internal drive and give that a go again. Ideas?
    Doug

  • Aperature freezing while importing iPhoto library

As posted on another thread, Aperture is freezing mid-import; in my case, it's happening when importing an iPhoto library with over 3,000 images. If I move the mouse during import, the program freezes; if I wait for it to go on its own, it will eventually freeze, and freeze so badly the entire computer has to be hard-restarted.

Connect the two Macs so iMac can access the library on your old Mac.  Then try this method:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the iMac's Picture folder as the destination folder for the new library.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • Lightroom 3 is freezing up while importing video

    Importing images is hanging up
One of the reasons I like Lightroom 3 is that it will catalog video. Most have cataloged fine except this latest drive of videos.
I've attached a dialog box that popped up.
The problem is it freezes the whole system and won't allow me to "Cancel or Search" The Overlap 02.dv doesn't seem to relate to any of the video file names I'm cataloging.
    Any suggestions?

.avi, .mov, .mp4 video file formats only
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/849/cpsid_84934.html
Your .mov camera video files should be OK. The issue with .avi and .mp4 formats is that they are containers, which can include files that aren't compatible with LR. I suggest importing .avi or .mp4 videos one-at-a-time to find the one causing the error message. You can Search or Sort in Windows Explorer or Mac Finder for .avi and .mp4 video file extensions to see if you have any.

  • IPod freezes while playing video

I just got a new 60GB iPod video, put an invisible shield on it, and synced it with my computer. I've had an iTunes account for a while, so I downloaded some of the tv shows they have in the store. I also downloaded dvd decoder and videora to convert some of my dvd's.
The Problem: when I play movies on my iPod that I ripped from dvd's (whether the movie is 1 minute long or 2 hours), they freeze 31 seconds in every time. Then they start playing again after about 5 seconds but with no sound. If I let it continue to play, it will not freeze. Then if press menu and click on the movie again, it will start playing with sound from where it left off, but freeze again after 30 seconds. But all the tv shows that I downloaded from iTunes play through without a problem. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? Thanks a lot.

Very great point, so after exhausting all other options (repair disk permissions and booting up with install disc and repairing the disk) with no success, I did just what you recommended and erased the whole hard drive and re-installed the OS.
Ran into this problem a few times while attempting to erase the hard drive: the erasing/formatting would fail when the hard drive would randomly disappear from the list of drives!!!!
And as you can suspect - even with a freshly wiped hard drive, it STILL is freezing!! It's not a hard freeze like everything stops working, or I get the grey screen of death...the beach ball just keeps on spinning, Command+Tab doesn't allow me to switch between apps, but I can move the cursor around, adjust window positions, etc.
So here's what I'm suspecting - there is a hardware problem with the hard drive in that it will suddenly shut off, but leaving the OS still displaying, but of course not allowing the user to do anything. If this is the case, I'm assuming a replacement hard drive would be in order.
Is this likely a hard drive problem, logic board problem, over-heating problem, or what? Any insight would be extremely helpful.
    Thanks again!!!
