FCE is capturing audio out of synch

I just captured some footage from my Sony V1 camera onto Final Cut Express. At the end of the capture session a sign came up saying the following:
"The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape. Make sure the audio sample rate of your capture preset matches the sample rate of your tape."
Sure enough the audio was out of synch. I have no idea where to access these variables on either my camera or on FCE, or what the correct settings would be if I could access them.
Anyone out there know what I have to do to get the capture and source tape matched correctly? And why might it suddenly start doing this, as its never happened before.
Thanks...

Hi(Bonjour)!
See FCE 4 user manual at page 211:
"Common sample rates and bit depths used in the video industry are:
- 32 kHz/12-bit: Consumer mini-DV camcorders can record four channels of audio using these settings. This is not recommended for most productions.
- 44.1 kHz/16-bit: Audio CDs and consumer DAT recorders use these audio settings.
- 48 kHz/16-bit: DV, HDV, and DVD all use these audio settings.
- 48 kHz/20-bit: Some professional video devices record natively in this format.
- 96 kHz/24-bit: These settings are becoming increasingly popular for professional sound and music production, although most video formats still record with 48 kHz."

  • PREMIERE PRO cs3 & cs5 - audio out of synch by 6 frames after export

i have never had formal training on adobe premiere, and therefore when i am working with my students it is basically down to expereince i have gained by myself.
with cs3, we always worked on the basis that it would always export the audio out of synch with the video by 6 frames so they would routinely have the audio tracks on two separate tracks, one for editing and one for exporting which was offset +6 frames.
when we made the transition to cs5 and new kit i was stunned to see that the synch issues were still there. and since a quick google yielded very little evidence that others shared this issue i thought it must be something i am doing wrong after years of bad habits learned on the fly.
so here is my workflow, where am i going wrong and why is it always out of synch?
    open cs5
choose an editing format. (this varies but the synch issue is always the same)
    import content
    edit
export (normally as a microsoft avi, with no compression which i later convert into quicktime compressed with ANIMATION)
i teach on an animation course so normally the content we import is a sequence of stills such as jpg or tiff, but we also capture stuff on dslrs too
the timeline colour is normally yellow, which is fine at standard def, but larger def we will render workspace to turn it green
the editing format depends on our target format. the current project is 720 hd
the export as avi with no compressor i suspect to be a weak link in this work flow, but the problem remains if i export as anything else so....
now as an additional point on the matter, the current project we have had people miming to an audio clip which we played live for their performance. the audio blips were aligned on the timeline with the audio blips from the edit
but after rendering out, the footage is out of synch by 6 frames. it has always been this way.
any thoughts? i know i must be doing something wrong, but the issue is consistant across different computer, running different OS and different versions of PREM...so either i am doing it wrong or premiere is fundamentally broke.....i suspect its me though

is there a logical reason for opting for a preset which is the lowest common denominator rather than a highest? is it not better to work at the best res possible?
does it matter either way? because i have often created 1080p content and worked in a 1024/576 edit environment only to later export at 1080p with no loss of quality?
i create the avi and then open this in quicktime to export to the desired formats.
now that you posted that comment i cant believe i have never done the simple trouble shoot of 'at what point does it go out of synch'
files are too big to playback uncompressed though.
i know it is a workflow issue and not a prem issue because no one else seems to have the problem.
im going to run some tests
    thanks, will report back

  • Why is audio out-of-synch with video on VOB files

I used a Pioneer DVR to import ~120 8mm and Hi8mm and Digital8 analog tapes to convert them to DVD's.  These ~120 DVD's are in VOB format.  These are 4:3 video (not HD).  I did test this flow and didn't notice a few of the VOB's did not have the audio tracking properly.
When importing them into Premiere Elements 8.01 some of the VOB files have their audio out of synch with the video, yet, they play okay in the Premiere preview window.
Is there a setting so that when it 'conforms', that it will track the audio correctly?
Do I need to buy a conversion tool to go from VOB to mpeg-2 (or other format?) and then import to Premiere Elements 8?
Is there a better video editing tool to use?
I simply want to take all these 8mm tapes / DVD's to splice the best scenes.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit AMD Athlon II X4 630 2.8GHz processor, 4GB of DDR3 memory; and installed an ATI HD-4350 pcie gen2 graphics card. I have a memorex bluray dvd player.
    Thanks, SJK.

  • Vado audio out of synch with video when I transfer it out of Vado Central

Vado audio out of synch with video when I transfer it out of Vado Centralk I have a very important video I took that runs fine in Vado Central. However, when I try transferring it anywhere else (Facebook, Photobucket, iMovie) the audio speeds up and makes my son sound like a chipmunk.
My computer is a MacBook OS 0.5.8, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 processor, 2GB memory, which should meet the system requirements.
I've been going back and forth with customer-no-service and their last suggestion was that there's nothing wrong with the camera or Vado Central and that Facebook, Photobucket and iMovie must all be independently having the exact same problem
I'm very frustrated and unhappy. This camera is only 2 months old, but it's too late for me to return it and right now it's worthless to me. Worst of all, my very important video is ruined. Anybody have any suggestions

Yes, it sounds the same (too fast) no matter what computer we try it from. I've tried burning a DVD every way I can think of and when we try to play it on our DVD player we still have chipmunk audio.
I am BEYOND frustrated with Vado's customer-no-service. They keep insisting that since it will play in Vado Central I don't have a problem. I bought this camera so that I could share video with my family that's across the country. What am I supposed to do now, mail them the camera?! It's absurd!

  • Help! New to FCE - captured audio out of sync

I just switched from a PC to a Macbook Pro. I had been using Sony Vegas on the PC and have switched to FCE since Vegas isn't available on Mac. I tried capturing my first footage last night into FCE. The audio on the tape was 32kHz, so I went to EasySetup and selected the DV-NTSC 32kHz setting. After capturing about an hour, it gave me a message saying analyzing or rendering audio for about 5-10 minutes. When that was done, I tried to play the clip, bit the video and audio were about 1 sec out of sync (video was ahead by 28 frames). In this case, I was able to unlink the audio/video and manually re-sync them, but can anyone tell me what might have caused them to be captured out of sync, and what to do to ensure that it won't happen again?
    Thanks!
    Erich

Thanks, I'll give that a try later today and see if that solves the problem.
One other question, does video imported through iMovie need to be rendered in FCE? I tried capturing some footage in iMovie (with the same setup) and it played fine in iMovie (no sync problems) and when I imported it into FCE, it played fine in the viewer, but when I dropped it into the sequence timeline and tried to play it there, I couldn't hear the audio, just a beeping sound, and there was a red bar over the sequence to indicate that it needed rendering.

  • ISight & Audio out of Synch?

I regularly record videos for YouTube and I recently got a brand new Macbook Pro 15" to replace my 2nd Generation one. I never had a problem on that. However now, I've filmed two videos on this laptop using the iSight and internal mic, and both times, the audio has been out of synch with the video. It's almost like the audio has been stretched and is longer than the video. Because I tried moving the audio around in FCP, and it would always fall out of synch a few seconds later. Has anyone ever heard of this?
PS - This time I filmed into iMovie. The first time I filmed into the YouTube 'record' function on the website.
    Please help!

    (1) Well known issue when using FCP/E to edit QT capture/import files. As I understand it, the problem is related to differences between the recorded QuickTime file formats and your FCP workflow settings. This is not really a problem with your built-in iSight, which has no sound recording of its own.
Although I do not use FCP, conforming your QT import files to your FCP workflow / settings seem to be the answer. See this thread for one example:

A look through the returns from this search should give you more ideas:

    (2) If you need more help, I suggest you post in FCP discussions:
      http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=939
Be sure to include the frame, bit, and sampling rate parameters for the QuickTime file you are importing into FCP when you ask your question. It might also be helpful if you state the parameters you plan to output from FCP in your finished project.

  • Audio out of Synch in Prem Pro CS4 after editing in Soundbooth

This is using the Mac version of Premiere Pro CS4 and Soundbooth. I Premeire, I choose to edit the audio portion of a clip in Soundbooth. In sound booth I just add some compression or other sweetening and save it (only adding effects no cutting of the audio or anything). When I save it and go back to Premeire, the audio is out of synch. Also this seems to happen intermittently not everytime.
    Any  ideas?
The audio in premiere is part of a video clip and is 48K 16bit.

    Good morning Lynn,
I doubt this will help, but whenever I have issues importing tapes, I try
something else. I double check the software's manual because
sometimes, even if I have done the same thing several times, I add
or miss something. If that does not work I close the program and restart
the computer and camcorder and try again ... with a different tape. If
that doesn't work I use a different program. I use an old HP workstation
I paid $99 for on Ebay that's running XP and I capture with Scenalyzer.
Then I copy file to a USB drive and input to Premiere. Sorry, I figure the
problem is me, not the hardware or software and it usually is me because
when the next project comes along PP usally imports fine.

  • InstantOn DVD - Audio out of Synch with Video

    Hi
I have a MegaPC 865 Pro.  I am having problems with the InstantOn DVD Player.  The Audio is out of synch with the video. (the Audio is slower than the Video).  It happens on both analog and digital spdif out modes.
    CPU: Celeron 2.66
    RAM: 1G
    Optical Drive: LG GSA-4081B
    HDD: 40G Seagate
Audio and Video are the inbuilt ones that came with the MegaPC 865.
In Windows XP Media centre, it works fine (the audio/video synch works fine, the 5.1/7.1 audio mix mode has problems, but thats a different topic!!)
Can anyone offer any suggestions??  Thank you.

  • Audio out of synch after I export from Final Cut

I have a video on a Final Cut timeline. If I play in FC, audio is in synch. If I play the file in QuickTime player from my captures folder, the audio is in synch. If I export from final cut, or from quicktime pro, the audio of the resulting file is off by about 1 second. I was trying to make a h.264 file, but it does the same thing if I export to other formats as well.
This only seems to be happening with this particular video. I have a number of project loaded right now, and do not have this same problem with the other projects.
Weird....any help would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't include any of your specifications for the sequences or exported movies but a problem that only exists on a single item is directly associated with that item and can be identified but they're usually subtle.
My first guess is that the audio on the original media is set to a slight different sampling rate. Could be off a thousandth of a decimal. The reason it works in the timeline is it's being conformed to the sequence settings in realtime. The export would reference the original.
I can't tell from the post where you're getting this loss of sync. Can you try exporting a self-contained movie and then use that to go to h.264?

  • Video and audio out of synch after export

    Hello guys,
I have 5 minutes long video on timeline.
1 audio and 3 video layers.
All looks good, but once I export it as QuickTime self contained movie (current settings) to my desktop, video and audio is out of synch.
Any ideas what it might be wrong?
    Thank you for any advise.

    Hi
Did You Render All - first - before Export
Did You Mixdown Audio - Render Only - last line
    What material was used
    • Video Codec and fps
    • Audio file formats and bit-depth and frequency e.g. .aiff 48kHz 16-bit
    • What kind of Project Set-Up did You use e.g. Easy Set-Up - PAL-48kHz

  • Why is audio out of synch when I share (export) to mp4, BluRay (FCPX 10.0.9)?

Audio that is carefully synched to the video in the timeline appears off by several frames once I share the files to Bluray or mp4. I believe, but will double check that I exported to DVD without this issue. Any suggestions for fixes would be greatly appreciated.  Paul

Sorry it took a few days to reply Russ.  I wanted a chance to go over the videos carefully.
It does not drift further out of synch, and the synch issue only affects a few short segments of a 42 minute video, one near the beginning, another near the middle and another nearer the end. The segments that have the issue ones were ones I overdubbed audio from an external recorder (Zoom H6) that I used when the video was shot.  However, there are many more segments in the video that were similarly overdubbed using the Zoom recordings where synch is not a problem.
On the weekend I tried making compound clips of the problematic segments in the hope that it might accomplish something but it didn't make a difference at all in the Blueray disk I burned-which I played on my aging Samsung Bluray player.
Here's another interesting fact about this problem:  all of the mp4 files, I discovered, play perfectly in synch on my Mac.  It is only on a PC that some parts are out of synch.  Should I be using Quicktime files for PC instead of MP4?
Thanks for your interest in my little problem Russ.

  • AC3 audio out of synch

I created a DVD in DVD Studio Pro 4 which included ac3 audio files. When viewing the DVD on NTSC monitors the audio is in synch and plays wihtout issues. When viewing it on Plasma TV the audio is out of synch. Please advise.

Plasma tvs are notorious for having sync drift. I have a Pioneer 43" (I know, showing off!!!) and whilst I have yet to notice it on DVDs I notice drift a lot on Sky TV broadcasts (in the UK) - especially bad on live programmes. I have heard that if you have an HDMI input on your plasma and an HDMI DVD player that sometimes cures it...
Basically it's because some (all?) plasmas have a de-interlacing function which puts a very slight delay on "writing" the picture to the screen. You can get Scart leads in the UK that have a delay built in to the audio to alleviate (Scart isn't used in the US I don't think). Most people don't even notice it...
If the audio is in sync on normal CRT monitors and on your Mac then it's fine...

  • Mp4 Audio out of synch

    Hi there
I recorded some video recently for a small project and saved in MP4 format (using a Panasonic HC-V510 HD camcorder).
I've come to edit the material today and noticed that all of the files are out of synch, even though video/audio were all recorded together on the camcorder and imported as MP4 files straight into Premiere Pro - hence synch should be maintained.
I've read elsewhere this could be a CODEC or Ecoding issue by the camcorder is not sophisticated enough to have allowed any manual intervention of any of these settings.
    So puzzled by:
    1) what would cause the files to be out of synch
    2) how to get them back in synch automatically
Many thanks for any help and advice.
    Regards
    Alan.

I had similar problems, using my ne Galaxy S4mini, recording in 1920x1080p30, working on Py Win7-64, Adobe Premiere Pro CS 6.0.5:

playback with win media works fine, video and audio are in sinc
also using apple Quicktime player, works fine,
but imported in Adobe Premiere pro CS 6.0.5.

  • Video and audio out of synch on burned DVD.  DVD project appears to be fine.  I'm using 1X speed to burn disc.  Project info indicates plenty of space.  What should I do?

Video and audio are out of synch on some chapters of a burned double layer DVD.  The iDVD (7.1.2) project seems to be fine.  I'm burning the DVD using a 1X speed.  What else can I do to solve this problem.  Based on the project information, I have plenty of space relative to the DVD capacity.

Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
