Fce keeps crashing on me just for ffwding footage in viewer

hi
all i want to do is fast forward through my footage in the viewer to pick my shots faster, but fce keeps accidentally quitting on me. i've tried with 5 projects, 3 of them new, and it keeps happeneing every single time. the only thing i've been doing different lately is a few days ago i tried to open a file from an external hard drive i had brought to school where they're using final cut pro, and when i tried to open that file, it said it was corrupted and wouldn't open. i tried deleting the caches and restarting, but no luck. any ideas?

Thanks, Tom, that explains your suggestion. I have a Sony camera and have never had problems, and they do go into a different port on the back of my G5: the camera and iPod FW to into the FW400 hub on my Cinema display, my FW800 drives directly into the G5.
In my old G4/733, I did have a second Firewire card installed (Belkin) because of issues with an older Sony PC7 and Firewire drives in iMovie (some little detail like losing the contents of my firewire drive if I hit "rewind" on the camera).
Since the project files are small, maybe I will move them to the "movies" area of my system drive.
