FCE not recognizing camcorder

i have closed and restarted
all cables are in place - iMovie recognises & uploads fine
just not FCE!
h e l p please
thank you

I'm kidding, aren't you? I'm sorry, but there is absolutely no way anyone can help you based on this.
Please give your full system specifications, what computer, what drives, what camera or deck, how everything's connected, what settings are on the media, what settings you're using in Final Cut, and finally what version of the software, of the OS, and of QuickTime are you using?

  • FCE not recognizing my Sony J-30 via Firewire

I hooked up my MacBook Pro running Final Cut Express 4.0 to a Sony J-30 Digital Betacam Player with Firewire (or iLINK as Sony call it).
Using "Easy Setup" in FCE I chose DV-PAL... however my Mac complains that it can't detect any device connected to it. I've checked my FW800->FW400 cable and it's working with my portable hard drive, so I'm not sure why it won't interface with the J-30 - other than the possibility the Sony device is faulty.
Grateful if anyone can point out if I'm missing something obvious. Is there some hidden setting on the J-30 I need to set?

    UPDATE:
It turns out that my FW800-FW400 cables are working fine with my hard drives, just not the J-30.
However, I've found a workaround. If I daisy-chain the J-30 to my Firewire hard drive using a FW400->FW400 cable then my Mac sees it.
This is rather odd. Can anyone explain this? Seems as if the J-30 doesn't like converting directly over a FW400->800 cable???

  • FCE not recognizing camera

I have a Sony HDR-HC1. FCE HD will recognize the camera when in down-convert mode but not when in HD mode.
    Any suggestions?

Not quite sure what you're asking. Do you mean the HD resolution on the camera? It shoots in 1080i. There are two settings for vcr mode. One is HD and the other is HD-DV mode in which it automatically down-converts the HD to SDV. FCE has no problem seeing and digitizing the video in that mode. But it will not see the camera when in HD mode.
Is there a specific setting in FCE for it to recognize HD? I couldn't seem to find it anywhere.
    Thanks for your reply.

  • SONY HDR XR150 - Camcorder is not recognized by iMOVIE

    Dear all:
_I own the Sony HDR XR150 camcorder and cannot get my MAC to recognize that my camcorder is connected._
    I have a Mac laptop Powerbook G4 and am running OS X version 10.4.11. I have iMOVIE 6.03 (267.2).
When I am in iMOVIE the camcorder is not recognized. :[
It states "No camcorder attached" even when I have small Firewire cable running from camcorder to larger firewire cable plugged into MAC. My footage on camcorder is on hard drive. I have no idea if the footage was taped in a certain format and I mention this because there are lots of formats written about in this forum - I just assumed everything was recorderd in HD. I simply hit record on camcorder to tape footage. When connected, I click on a button on camcorder for USB connect that uses the Internal Hard Drive (where my footage is). However, my camcorder is not recognized on iMOVIE.
I am worried that the problem is I do not have an Intel based Mac. The software that came with Sony camcorder called PMB (Picture Motion Browser - only works with Windows.)
This is what I dug up online.
    Tapeless Camcorder Support
iMovie '09 works with many tapeless camcorders that record to flash memory, a hard disk drive (HDD), or DVD media. These devices use a USB 2.0 cable and include camcorders using MPEG-2 (standard definition), MPEG-4, AVCHD, and H.264 formats. If you use the AVCHD format you will need a Mac with an Intel-based Core Duo processor or better.
Due to the wide range of media types, and the different ways manufacturers store video on these media types, not all tapeless camcorders are compatible with iMovie '09.

*CAN ANYONE CLUE ME IN AS TO HOW TO GET MY SONY CAMCORDER TO BE RECOGNIZED IN IMOVIE?*

My friend just wrote this to me as a possible solution...
It doesn't surprise me that AVCHD is only supported on Intel machines. Apple tends to stop updating older products/software in favor of their newer lines. To their credit, high compression HD codecs are processor intensive, and older hardware would have a hard time with it.
The camera may have some alternate options for video file type... Check the manual or help docs. Unfortunately, that could mean SD recording rather than HD.
I DON'T KNOW IF MY FRIEND'S INFORMATION MIGHT HELP SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME EVEN BETTER IDEAS AS A SUGGESTION. AVCHD is a high-def video format that allows HD camcorders and some digital cameras to record video at resolutions up to 1920 x 1080. SOUNDS LIKE MY FRIEND IS SAYING IF I DON'T RECORD IN HD ON MY SONY CAMCORDER MAYBE MY IMOVIE WILL BE COMPATIBLE WITH IT. BUT MY IMOVIE DOES NOT EVEN RECOGNIZE MY CAMCORDER... SO I DON;T THINK HIS SUGGESTION WILL WORK...
    SUGGESTIONS?

  • My camcorder not recognized

I have a Sony DCR-HC30 miniDV camcorder.  it works well with non-intel PowerPC G5.  Now it is not recognized on my new MacBook Pro.  It is not on the campatibility list.  Is there a patch, update, etc. that could make this work on this computer.
    Thank you.

It should work fine, but you will need a Firewire cable.
Depending on your laptop, you either have Thunderbolt or Firewire 800 or both.
If you have Firewire 800, you need a 9 pin to 4 pin Firewire Cable.
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10301&cs_id=1 030104
If you have Thunderbolt only, you need the 9 pin to 4 pin fireware cable AND the Firewire to Thunderbolt adapter.

  • TouchSmart not recognizing Hi8 Camcorder for home video capture.

To capture home videos on my computer, I am using a firewire-to-USB cable to connect a Hi8 Canon video camera to an HP TouchSmart 600-1100 PC running Windows 7. The computer is not recognizing the device. I can't tell if I have a IEEE 1394 device installed (not listed in my device manager) and i don't see any firewire port, only 2 USBs.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Firstly, nowadays nearly all new Windows computers don't have Firewire port(s). And secondly the Firewire-to-USB cable alone will never work. You need a converter or a hub which is designed to do a conversion work. Firewire and USB are both digitals but two different ways to transfer data. The following hub is one example:

  • Canon Vixia HF11 not recognized

I have a MacBook Pro 17, with Final Cut Express 4 (updated to latest version: 4.0.1); when I connect my Canon Vixia HF11 (with USB cable), the camcorder is not recognized.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Alfred

I also have a H11 (for 2 weeks, recorded a play creating two 50+ minute clips.
iMovie '09 recognizes the camera, shows thumbnails of the 2 clips, and acts like it wants to import them. After 3 hours, I get a message that there was an error. I've tried this several ways with the same result, and gave up.
I bought FCE 4.0.1, and get NO invitation to import. The camcorder shows up on the desktop as 2 icons, one a USB drive, the other as a generic "white" drive. When I go to IMPORT, only the USB drive shows up. Within it is a AVCHD folder with 3 folders:
    1.AVCHDTN (with 2 files-THUMB.TDT, and THUMB.TID...both grayed out.)
2.BDMV( backup, Clipinf,Playlist, Stream folders)...looks like maybe demos
    3.CANON (4 files: 000000.MPL, CINDX.TMP, INDEX.BDM, THUMB.TID...all grayed out.)
Everything is NOT available. The camera is in video playback mode. power adapter in use. At this very minute I'm reconfirming that iMovie recognizes it, whereas FCE does NOT have the HF11 on it's supported camera list. But, I'm most perplexed that ANYONE on this thread got any clips imported at all! How is this possible? Is there just no real Apple support for this camera yet? I have an opportunity to return this camera, but it must be soon, and I need this play OUT of the camera. Is there a PC solution for this problem? I'm in a crunch! I'd appreciate any suggestions.

  • I have iMovie 09 and have successfully used an older Sony Handycam to directly capture and record. Now I have a Sony HDR-PJ230 and it is not recognized. Do I need to upgrade to iMovie 11 or ???

Now I have a Sony HDR-PJ230 and it is not recognized in iMovie09. Do I need to upgrade to iMovie 11 or ???

    Hi jcm2656,
iMovie ’09 does not support the Sony HDr-PJ230 camcorder. See this article for a list of cameras supported for that version of iMovie -
    iMovie '09: Camcorder Support
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290#1
iMovie ’11 however, does support it. See this article -
Apple - iLife '11 Help - iMovie ’11 Supported Cameras
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html
Note that iMovie does not support footage recorded in 1080-60p from this Camcorder.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Camera not recognized unless daisy-chained with external HD

I just bought a LaCie 250GB external FW drive to use as a scatch disk for FCE. Now my camera (Sony DCR-HC30) is not recognized unless I plug it into the LaCie. I borrowed a second camera (Panasonic), swapped the FW cable while the camera and HD were plugged into separate FW ports, and the Panasonic was immediately connected in both iMovie (v4) and FCE. I've tried the suggested fixes (unplug, Garageband, swap ports, new cable...) and the problem remains. I upgraded memory, QT and applied several patches prior to attaching the HD. Any suggestions? Can I live with the daisy chain arrangement or will that cause problems importing to the external HD? (I've not tried to import any video yet). Thanks

Can I live with the daisy chain arrangement or will that cause problems importing to the external HD?
    Yes and No, respectively.
(That's what I always did before getting an internal 200GB hard drive in my iMac.)

  • Camera is not recognized after upgrade to Tiger !!!!

    Hello,
I recently upgraded to Tiger and until now I had absolutely NO problems with FCE (J1.01). I just finsihed a project before upgrading to Tiger. Then today I was going to start a new project and now the camera (Sony Mini Dv Handycam) is not recognized even if is connected to my Firewire ports. I exchanged the connection between the ports and the same result.
Something more strange is that I though about checking it with the iChat AV application to see if it was a problem with the camera but iChat reports that the camera is being used by "other application". However I have no other application running and I cannot use it even for iChat.
Please, Please any help is greatly appreciatted. If I cannot use FCE then having my iMac makes no sense..
    Thanks

    Excellent!!
your answer was exactly the solution for my problem,
a BIG Thank you, now everything is fine.
P.S. the thing that bothers me is that I searched Apple support site for some answer and I could not find this document !!!

  • Canon Gl2 Video Camera Not Recognized with Firewire 800 Connection

I have a late 2010 mac with 2.93 Ghz Intel Core i7 Processor with 12GB DDR3 running 10.8.2 OSX.  I have a Canon GL2 video camcorder with a MiniDV tape I am trying to download to my computer.  I am using a new 4pin to 9pin Rocketfish Firewire 800 cable. My computer is not recognizing the firewire input from the GL2.  As suggested with other support threads, I have tried to turn the mac and computer off and on, as well as check to see if the cable is working.  I have also tried both a trial version of Final Cut, and Imovie 09 which is loaded on my Mac, neither of which will recognize the camera.  I clicked on the System Information icon and looked at the Firewire 800 status which was:
    FireWire Bus:
Warning: Unable to list FireWire devices.
Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec
At least I know it recognized something.  I have also checked to make sure the Canon is set to DV-Out on the Menu.  Since I am unable to use a USB connector with MiniDV, would there be any other way to either A) Download the video to the computer, or B) get the Mac to recognize the source plugged into the Firewire?   Any help with this would be excellent.

I believe that in order to be recognized, you have to start the process from within iMovie of Final Cut; as for your FW port, you can try these two different troubleshooting steps (may or may not work, but won't hurt):
    Reset SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    PRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
It may that your FW port is defective; it that turns out to be the problem, I hope you purchased Applecare because those ports are an integral part of the logic board, so that would have to be replaced ($$$).
Since your footage is on DV tapes, you do need the FW to transfer it or it will not work. One other (involved) way would be to transfer your footage to a DVD if you have a DVD recorder and then get it on the Mac from there.

  • Desperate...Premiere not recognizing any video

Hi everyone!  I'm obviously very desperate if I'm posting to a forum for help.
The problem is my clips won't show in the timeline. When I drag and drop the video file, every single thing I've read online states that it should AUTOMATICALLY separate my video into clips for editing, and an audio track. It should read "Video 1", "Video 2," "Audio 1", etc. In the default setting, before a video is added to the timeline, it reads "Narration" and "Soundtrack." But, as I said, when I drag and drop a video it is supposed to automatically change. Even YouTube tutorials have shown this.
    Well...mine doesn't.
When I drag and drop a video, not only does it NOT separate the video and audio, but it doesn't even separate it into clips. The words "Narration" and "Soundtrack" remain on the left side, where it's supposed to read "video" and "audio." So it's as if the program is not recognizing my video file.
Fine, so I tried another video file. One of those sample ones that were already on the computer. No dice, it still did the same thing.
So I'm at an impasse. No help sites or anything I've found have addressed the problem of the program just NOT WORKING like it's supposed to! And I know exactly what it's supposed to look like, because it's not that dissimilar from Windows Movie Maker which I have used before.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's not from a camcorder, it's an .avi file directly from my hard drive.  Saved on my desktop, no less.
    Two things here:
AVI is but a wrapper, and so very much can be inside that wrapper. See this ARTICLE for some background, and also tips on how to peek inside that wrapper.
Second, I would not use the Desktop for your Assets. It is basically a special folder and one with special properties. Often, PrE (and many other programs) will have difficulty accessing the Desktop folder, due to those special properties. Just create a New Folder (or use the My Documents>My Video folder), and Move your AVI file(s) to that. This should be done, with PrE closed. When you Open that Project back up, PrE will ask you, "Where is file _____.avi?" From the Finder, just navigate to that New Folder, or to the My Videos folder, and choose that "missing" file.
This might also be a good point to talk a bit about what a Project file (PREL file) really is. This ARTICLE will give you some background. It will also explain why PrE asked "Where is file ____.avi?" once you Moved it.
Good luck, and for a very good starter set of articles, I strongly recommend Steve Grisetti's Basic Training Series at Muvipix. To go beyond those articles, he has some great books on PrE, also at Muvipix.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Converter box not recognized

I just got a new computer with imovie 5.02 and now my Sony DVMC-DA1 converter box is not recognized. Do I need to replace it or is there a way to make this work?

I only have one firewire port to work with on my Powerbook and two empty ones to work with on the emacs. The ports are not suspect. I have hooked firewire hard disks to it and confirmed that they work by doing firewire networks between two computers as well. So I am nearly certain that the firewires are not the problem. Canon responded to me telling me to try a new firewire cable (ha ha). They also said to check out if the camera is transmitting to alternative devices (TV input jacks). If they don't work then the cameras are dead. The DV box is a Canopus OHC-55. That causes the infamous firewire error (kernel[0]: FireWire (OHCI) Apple ID 31 built-in: no valid selfIDs for more than 2 minutes after bus reset.) in the console so I know that the box could be suspect, but it still doesn't make sense why the camcorder doesn't work. I may resort to checking out some old old versions of iMovie to see if they see the camcorder. This is simply baffling. I will go to the apple store on thursday if time permits. This is really baffling.

  • Format AVHCD not recognized in Adobe CS4

    Hello
I have download the trial version of CS4 which I have updated in to 4.2.1 with the adobe updater.
I have a camcorder SR10 Sony for which I have record in AVHCD Full HD.
When I try to import my MTS file, Premiere tell me that the format is not recognized.
I want to try Adobe for video editing.
What I have done wrong ?
    regards

As Ann points out, NOTHING related to MPEG (any sort) is supported by the trial version, due to licensing issues with the MainConcept MPEG CODEC. The full-paid version has full MPEG (and AVCHD) support, plus it has Encore, the authoring program. With the trial, the best test footage will be DV-AVI Type II.
If you go with the full-paid version, please uninstall the trial, run the Adobe Clean Script CS4 several times (maybe running a Registry cleaner afterwards), and then install and update your full-paid version of PrPro CS4. Otherwise, you will have other problems. The unistall, Clean Script, install order is VERY important. Do not omit a single step.
    Good luck,
