FCE - "Recompress All Frames" and poor quality QuickTimeexport

Hello,
The FCE Manual talks about unticking a "Recompress All Frames" option in the "Export QuickTime Movie" Settings. I just can't find that option in my FCE running on a MacPro. I see the other options like "Make a Standalone file" (or whatever the exact words).
Can anyone confirm it is available in FCE and not just Final Cut Pro?
Can someone clarify where exactly I am supposed to see the "recompress All Frames" option?
More generally, I see a huge loss of quality when exporting to QuickTime (ie when viewing the canvas from FCE it looks kindof HD-ish, and when viewing the exported Quicktime video it is at best SD-ish quality). Any other suggestion that unticking the "Recompress All Frames" to avoid one recompression stage?
Thanks
Francois

There is no need to recompress every frame.
When you export to QT Movie you are getting an identical copy so there should be no degradation of any kind.
You are probably doing something else wrong but as we don't know exactly what you are doing it is impossible to guess.

  • "Recompress All Frames" what does it mean?

My question is... what does it mean?
This is the checkbox option that's available on the QuickTime Export window. It's right above the "Make Movie Self-Contained" option.
I exported the same video with and without the box checked and could tell no difference, other than the recompressing of frames definitely takes much longer to render out (minutes vs. seconds). But the quality appears to be the same.
    Just curious. Thanks.

If you don't check it the QuickTime movie is a compilation of render files and original files if nothing is done to the media. Recompressing does exactly that. It recompresses all frames and rebuilds all the render files. It serves very little purpose except in specific instances where you have already rendered at low res and you don't want the the export file to compile using low res render files but to recompress at full quality.

  • When to recompress all frames?

    Hello guys,
When I am exporting my HDV video from the time line using "Export Quick Time Movie option".
Should I leave RECOMPRESS ALL FRAMES option checked or unchecked? What is the difference? What does it depend on?
    Thank you.

Leave unchecked for the most part. Final Cut Pro simply copies frames from existing media files into the new file with no recompression. This is a convenient way to export your media without subjecting it to recompression artifacts.( from the manual) I believe it good for animations and heavy gradients, although I'm not positive.

  • When is it important to use "recompress all frames" (when saving)?

When is it important to use / check the box "recompress all frames" (when saving as quicktime movie)? And why?

If you've rendered a sequence and want it to re-render the video into the same codec as the sequence. You almost never need to do it.

  • Can't find the Recompress All Frames option

Does anyone know how to access/locate the "Recompress All Frames" option mentioned on page 1015 of the Final Cut Express 4 Users Manual?
    To quote the text:
    +"Exporting a Self-Contained Movie Without Recompressing the Media+
+If you choose to export a self-contained movie, you have the option to not recompress+
+the media in your clip or sequence. If you deselect the Recompress All Frames option+
+and choose Current Settings from the Setting pop-up menu, Final Cut Express simply+
+copies frames from existing media files into the new file with no recompression. This is+
+a convenient way to export your media without subjecting it to recompression+
+artifacts. However, any media that must be created from scratch, such as a transition+
+between two media files, must be recompressed.+
+Important: The option to turn off recompression is unique to the Export QuickTime+
+Movie command. If you choose the Export Using QuickTime Conversion command,+
+every frame is always recompressed. "+
Whenever I click on a Sequence in the Browser, select FILE, then EXPORT, then QUICKTIME MOVIE the option does not exist, contrary to what is stated in the users manual. I am interested in locating this option as according to the manual, all other efforts to export the Sequence will result in a recompression of the video.

Just to add to what Michel said, when you export to QuickTime Movie the recompress all frames function is off by default. Because you can only export in current settings when you export to QuickTime Movie there is no real need for a recompress all frames button.

  • Cheaply manufactured product and poor quality assurance

Where do i start with this falsely advertised "entertainment machine" HP calls the HDX 18T Premium Laptop.
A month into purchase, the case of this laptop is bulging at certain areas (top of the screen which is collecting dust and overheating, and the fingerprint scanner / sound card area, causing me to have to push it down in order to hear out of the speakers or headphones). Even when the sound does work, the quality is horrible. Think of your favorite song or movie playing and in the background the sound of nails scratching on a chalkboard.  All the rubber stoppers have fell off because of cheap glue (leaving glue stains), the battery doesn't even last 30 minutes when the laptop is idle and now the charger is dead. Did i mention i payed $1,300 for all of these problems? Thank god i had a discount code or i would of paid $1,500 to get this rectangular piece of plastic.
Ive contacted HP Total Waste of Time 3 times and spoke to numerous people over the phone and email. The information, troubleshooting, and resolutions i was presented with were as helpful as a chocolate teapot.
All of these problems are due to cheap manufacturing and poor quality assurance on HPs part. These problems don't warrant a repair, but an exchange if not a refund for the amount i spent on this laptop and the numerous problems ive encountered with it.
My last conversation over the phone with my case manager (sadly i didn't get his name) just toped my whole sour experience with HP regarding this laptop. Ive been a long time HP customer, buying 4 HP G60s and this HP laptop just last year alone and forwarded many people to HP. Saving $1000 and losing a long time customer is in the better interest of HP than exchanging a cheaply and poorly made product with countless problems. At least thats what your representatives have told me.
No wounder HP took this laptop off their website only a couple months after it first shipped.

My experience with HP is very annoying.
My DV6 laptop had a broken right hinge and a loose mouse left click button. I sent it for repair and I got an email saying that the damage is not covered by the warranty, reason being... it was a damage due to accident or misuse. That really pissed me off. The notebook was never in an accident. About misuse, how can you misuse a mouse left click button and a hinge. The reason why the hinge broke was, it was set too tight. You need to apply more than a reasonable force to open it. I use Dell computer at work, never I had this problem. In fact my Dell laptop at work is one year older than this one.
What makes the situation worse is the way the call center in India handled it. I called on a Saturday to find out the status of my laptop. The guy mention that it wasn't repaired for the stated reason. I asked for someone who has more authority so that I could appeal my case. He told me to call the following  Monday during office hours so that I can talk to a case manager. I called Monday, talk to a regular call center representative and requested to talk to a case manager. I was immediately informed that...that was the decision of the case manager. I told the rep to send it back immediately. I have no patience banging heads with a company who blames customers for the failure of their product. Yes, HP saved $292. Guess what, I will never buy HP product again.  Also, I will share my HP experience with my friends in Facebook, Tweeter etc. I know how this big companies think, we are just one of their thousands customers.

  • HELP! Video in canvas is tiny and poor quality

Help me! Im about to break something out of frustration and lack of knowledge.
I started a project in FCP . Im not exactly the most knowledgeable when it comes to final cut so I didnt bother to change any of the sequence setting etc. I had a group of files, shot on a 5D mkII, which I had converted to ProRes. Looking at the files themselves in Finder, the quality was perfect. I imported the prores files into final cut and began editing my video. The files were good quality in the viewer but awful quality in the canvas. I stupidly soldiered on, thinking it was because it was just a preview. However, when i came to export it, the final result was equally as bad as in the canvas.
I tried to find out what was wrong by looking around online and found I should have adjusted the sequence settings. I changed them to 1280x1080. However, now the video is still terrible quality and also much smaller in the canvas. Strangely enough, now that I have changed the sequence settings, everytime I drag one of the prores files onto my timeline, it appears full size and good quality on the canvas. All the stuff before it on the timeline is small and poor quality still. also, dragging prores files onto the timeline, it is now needing to render them before they will play.
Is there someway I can get everything I have edited up to full quality? Or am I going to have to start again?
Im not great at explaining myself i know. Any help would be massively appreciated

If this helps, this is a screenshot. You can see the clip in the viewer is full size but the canvas is showing a smaller, poorer quality clip.

  • Export via Quick Time ends up being pixelated and poor quality

I shoot my student film on an Arri S camera with 16mm color stock. I got my film back to me from the school on a DV tape and imported it into FCP HD on my camcorder. When I went to export it onto a DVD for my actors, the film looks horrible! The blacks are really pixelated and the colors aren't as crisp as they were on film. I was told that it should look the same because we made the movie on better equipment and FCP won't lessen that, but at the same time FCP can't make poor quality work any better. Can someone tell me how to export my film without losing the 16mm quality. I don't want it to look digital, I spent a lot to get the real film stock. Thanks!

1- The film is 6 minutes long
2- I don't know where to find out about the bit rates
3- The audio is simple, just 48 khz stereo.
When using DV format, what's the difference in DV, DVPRO, etc.?
The movie was filmed 24 fps, but then put onto a dv tape for me, so I assume they transferred it at 29.97 fps. Should I now use NTSC or stick to PAL? Basically, anymore compression makes the film look really bad and unusable for festivals, which ultimately was the whole purpose of my blood, sweat, and tears behind this film.
Thanks for all your help and any more questions you need answered to solve this problem I'd be more than happy to answer.

  • Itunes match sync album art work problem and poor quality art work issue

    Hi There,
I have two issues with apple itunes and itunes match:
I seem to have a number of albums with poor quality artwork, now i have gone through the removed downloaded artwork and the right click and select the art work toggle box to remove the art work, after doing this I then ask to get the album cover from Itunes indervidually and high quality art work is down loaded and looks great for around 10-20 minutes then it seems to update slowley and revert to the old poor quality art work. Any Ideas? A simular thing that happens is that some art work that ive added manually is deleted. I have also gone into the itunes folder and deleted the album art work folder to force it to download new art work. Is there any way to lock in the art work that you know is good?
Itunes match after making changes to itunes albums I have then updated itunes match and my work is undone? This maybe complaations or album coers any ideas.
I am using itunes version 11.01
I have looked through the forum and read meany feeds about album covers but I havent found one that is reverting covers.
    Many thanks guys

  • Titling issues - pixelated and poor quality

    Hello,
I have been working on a project and finally finished.  Exported it and the quality is terrible.  I have determined it has something to do with the titling that I have in the video.  As when I put a title into its own sequence it has the same problem. Or if I just do the video it is just fine.   So for the purposes of figuring it out, I am working on a single title 5 seconds long, and been exporting.  So far I can't figure it out.  I have traditionally used still titles without movement....and dslr video.  This has always exported fine for me.  But now that I am trying to add a little motion in the title, it has caused me a lot of grief.
Here is what I am trying to do with the title
    - Still Title that just says 'Black and White' with black background and white lettering.  Simple...
    - I have adjusted the keyframes under the scaling so that the title appears to be coming at you.  Small to Big (also tried the zoom effect, but didn't work either)
    - Have added the Fast Blur In effect - so that the words ' Black and White' are blurred and then come into focus using keyframes.
Here is a image of kind of what it looks like.
Thats it.  I have been very frustrated with this and would appreciate any help possible.  My sequence is DSLR 1080p 30fps preset.
    Thanks in advance.
    Dustin

    Thanks for your help!
To make things a little easier, I have posted a video to vimeo to give you an idea of the pixelation on the title and the accompanying video.  Vimeo Password = adobehelp

  • Video took on iPhone 5 is choppy and poor quality after sync

    Dear Apple Support Community,
Video that I take with my iPhone5 running the newest iOS runs crappy on my mac.  I sync my phone and upload all my pics and video to iPhoto and the video's picture is choppy and the frames skip, however the sound is unaffected.  I tried opening them in QuickTime and the same thing happens.  The video plays back on my phone with no problems.  Most of these videos are of my children and I really want them on my computer!  Thanks in advance guys/gals!!

    James,
I have heard the same thing about processing power, but the answer was vague and no one has told me anything definitive yet. However, I a cant afford to buy a new iMac, as much as I dearly want a new one, but I did upload my pics and vids to my mother in laws iMac (almost two years old running Lion) and they worked just fine. Why does this happen?!?!?!?  I don't know. I thought maybe the OSX only allows iPhoto a certain amount of processor power, but I opened them in QuickTime and they produced the same choppy effect. Probably some bit of code they sneak into iOS to make one have to buy a new iMac/MacBook. I wish, for the both of us, I had a better answer. Anywho, good luck and Godspeed in all your endeavors.

  • Why when I resize an image does it looks less sharp and poor quality?

I've been using Photoshop since CS3 and have never had thus problem before. I used to create websites using WordPress for clients and have created many different logo images without any issues. Now however I'm doing it for muself and I'm having problems when I resize the images for web use.
Here are a few examples. The first is a 1400x1400 image that I'm going to use for a podcast. iTunes requires this size and it looks good to my eye. When you look at the resized image however you'll see that it is not quite as sharp.
    1400x1400 http://d.pr/i/SrtJ
    300x300 http://d.pr/i/IqtI
    Logo at http://safetydad.net
    Twitter page http://twitter.com/thesafetydad
I've tried all different things to get it to look good at any size but no mater what when the image gets resized (especially by a CMS or Twitter) it looks like crap. I've tried saving as png, jpeg, flatteing before resizing, resizing the psd, saving as jpeg then resizing, using save for web option but no matter what it doesn't look right.
    What am I doing wrong?

When you scale down, you will lose some of the sharpness because it is removing pixels from the image, and Photoshop is trying to figure out how to remove pixels, and reassemble the edges of the image.. As a result, when some of that shading is removed, it begins to blur. Make sure when scaling down an image (image - image size) that you set the resampling to bicubic sharper. This will help to reduce the blur from the pixel removal.
Also, you can go to filter - sharpen - unsharp mask - and work on bringing back some of the sharpness there as well.
For your twitter logo - I would make a separate logo for it, because the text is difficult to read over it. Sorry - just my opinion there.
You may have tried these things already - but if not - hopefully it helps
On the other note - I think you might be hyper-critical of the changes...

  • Cisco SA520 - Unable to block all torrents and Poor Performance

Hi, I have installed a Cisco SA520W Appliance at a Client who has about 40-50 PC's, the device has the latest firmware 2.1.7 and latest IPS signature (17) installed, the client is quite disappointed about the performance of the device as he believes Internet browsing access has slowed down substantially.
The main problem the client is encountering is that, he is unable to block Utorrent P2P software and this is not allowing him to retain Internet control from the SA520 appliance.
He had also commented on the fact that there does not appear to be a status monitor on IP usage of Internet access to pinpoint who at that time would be hogging up the bandwidth.
Any feedback, same encounters scenarios and possible fixes to the above issues would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Shawn

You might find this thread interesting regarding the router's performance with IPS turned on.  An SA540, and an access point, would yield slightly better performance.  That's what we use.
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2022832?tstart=60
There are some older threads regarding the SA500 series router's ability to detect torrent activity.  You might want to dig them up and respond to them.  The Cisco folks were working diligently at optimizing the IPS engine's ability to detect different types of torrent activity.
There is no way to monitor Internet access usage at the individual IP level that I am aware of.  I suggest turning on network logging (to a syslog server as there will be a lot of data to capture) and monitor traffic that way.  Kiwi Syslog Server has a free version that your client could use.

  • My manipulated images come out with a green color cast and poor quality

I manage my photos with ACDSee, but use Photoshop CS3 for much of my editing. The image leaves ACDSee with rich true colors, and while I'm editing in Photoshop the image looks like I want it. But when I save the image and view it in ACDSee, it now is faded, has a green color cast and looks faded, dull and shallow. What do you think is happening? Thanks.  Rickrans

One other place to look....  If you shoot raw images, there's a separate configuration for the color space the Camera Raw converter delivers its results in.  Click the little link at the bottom-center of the Camera Raw dialog.  If you want to work in the sRGB color space, change it as shown here:
