FCE to movie for TV's
Please help:
How do I convert my FCE to a movie that can be viewed on a TV? Do I need to use iDVD to burn this properly?

Are you working in DV? Or some other format? If you're working in DV you can play your FCE timeline out through a DV camera connected to a TV for playback. Is that what you want? You can also record it back to DV tape and then play the tape back from the camera or deck at any time. Will that work for you? You only need to make a DVD if you specifically want to have a DVD that plays off a set-top box. Is that what you really want? If so, export a QuickTime Movie and take it to iDVD. That application will make it into the format required for DVDs.

Did iDVD delete my FCE HD movie?!
I exported a FCE HD movie to iDVD for a burn. Now I can't find the project file. I checked the pref pane on iDVD and looks like it defaults to deleting rendered files after it burns a DVD. Did it delete my movie? I can't find the sequence in FCE HD. I can not figure out what is going on! Help!
Walked away, came back, clicked open the project''s icon, and it opened up perfectly intact. Am going to do some diag's on the machine today.

FCE export settings for higher quality video
Hello. I'm a self-schooled newspaper video features producer and relative newcomer to Final Cut Express, shifting from Premium Elements. I've just begun using it to upload videos to my newspaper's finicky web system, which will only accept .flv files of a certain size. My modus operandi has been to export my videos as large .avi files, using Quicktime conversion and DV/DVCPRO/NTSC, with medium quality, with 16 bit sound set at 32 Khz. Then I run that .avi through the Adobe Flash Media Encoder with a frame rate of 15 fps, deinterlacing and resizing the screen to 640 by 480. This procedure (outlined by our former video editor) produces serviceable web quality video (You can see video that results from using these settings at http://wvgazette.com/multimedia). So, two questions: 1) I have created an 8-minute FCE music video for my band and wish to export it at a higher quality (for use on Vimeo) than these newspaper settings. Which of them do I change so that a higher quality video results without waiting all night for a massive file to upload? 2) And wthere might I turn for guidance on better understanding the Sanskrit of FCE video export settings for newbies? 1. File>Export Using QT Conversion.
2. The "Format" window should say, "QT Movie".
3. In "Use" select "LAN/Intranet" from the dropdown menu.
4. Click "Save" and when it has finished encoding, upload it.
Do not mess about altering audio settings, frame rates etc.
Using the above settings an 8 minute video would be encoded in around 20 minutes (depending on computer speed) and would be well under 100MB.
Is that too big?

Burned FCE DVD movie jerks, stops
On several occasions, on various DVD players, my burned FCE DVD movies have either jerked, or quit in the middle of the presentation. Am I doing something wrong in exporting the FCE movie, or choosing the wrong iDVD commands in preparation to burn the DVD. I as well as my customers are getting frustrated. I've had other querks using the iDVD 6. Any advise would be much appreciated!
After I have completed the movie in FCE, I export it as "QuickTime movie". I then open iDVD, choose my theme, drag the movie into the theme, choosing the fade through black transition (because the DVD's are shown on an iMac for funeral visitations and need to be looped. If I don't choose a transition, the DVD will not loop, a glitch in the iDVD 6), then I click on "show the DVD map", click on the movie, choose advanced/loop. I then burn the DVD. The first time a movie jerked, stopped, I was convinced it was the DVD player. But since then, the same thing has happened on other DVD players, as well as on an iMac, on several occasions. Al, I appreciate any light you can shed on this. Thank you so much.

I rented a movie for Apple TV via my Mac months ago. SInce than when I go to open itunes...it quits before anything loads. HOw do I fix this? I haven't been able to use itunes on my computer since than!
Rented movies downloaded to an Apple TV can't be transferred to any other device.

Mavric doesn't support my 5 years old Big Screen Display, OR? Tried to connect my Mac Book Pro after installing Mavric, The Screen didn't work as before. I could only see the Desktop but not the movies for example.
<E-mail Edited by Host>It appears what happened is the installer though it was looking at a empty drive and just went ahead and installed.
I of course am assuming here you didn't use Disk Utility to format the drive first before installing, that would wipe out your files and programs for sure.
So what to do, what to do.
Well there is hope for you as long as the drive wasn't Filevaulted.
I'll explain. When a hard drive writes data for the first time to a drive, it starts at the very top and works it's way down.
When OS X was installed the first time, it was at the top of the drive, unless you upgraded then the upgraded OS X could have been written elsewhere.
Now when you just reinstalled OS X, the new OS went on the top of the drive, overwriting any data that was there previously, so what was there you have lost forever which is about 8GB or so. If it was the previous OS there, then your more in luck because only the old OS X was overwritten.
The remaining space on the drive still can have a copy of your files, provided it's not overwritten yet.
It's because when a hard drive deletes data or reformats, it doesn't remove the data off the drive or overwrites it immediately, it's just made so it's SPACE is available for new files to be written there.
So technically one can recover the deleted data off a non-encrypted/scrubbed hard drive with special software.
The way it does this is it reads the 1's and 0's of the files themselves, and through a lot of figuring out, can tell what that file is and what it belongs too.
So what you will have to do is this:
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
or if you don't have the skills, then take it to a local PC/Mac tech and they can do a direct image of the drive and then you can run Data Rescue on it to rebuild your files. -
My iPhone 4 with iOS 6 is making me start to hate Apple. Any App and at any time I open and I can not view it or move for more than 2 minutes, they close themselves. During connections, it also gives this problem and the signal disappears after a few seconds back but often the person on the other end has hung up ... I can not stand it anymore, someone suggests something?
Besides these problems, there is the battery, which was bad got worse, she is not lasting more than 10 hours, even without using the phone.
Sometimes it even seems that the problem was solved, but my joy did not last long after I celebrate all the problems return, is incredible ...

I accidentally bought the HD version of a movie for my daughter's nano. you can't watch HD on a nano. So I'm trying to figure out how to re-download the SD version. This help screen makes it seem like you can just correct the problem and just "download" the lower version. But when I follow the steps, I basically get to where I'm just having to actually purchase the other version. Do I have to pay to get the lower quality version after I've already paid for the HD version?
When you purchase an HD movie or show, in most cases the SD copy can be downloaded from your purchases area in iTunes. On the main iTunes Store page, go to Purchases under the Quick Links and then select Movies or TV shows as appropraite. Click the "Not On This Computer" button. Uncheck the "Download HD when available" box and you should then see the SD copies of the movies/shows and be able to download them.
Note that with digital copies from a Blu-Ray or DVD, if it comes with an HD copy, you normally cannot get the SD copy as well and have to purchase it separately if you want it.

I bought this movie for $14.99 "mud" and I put download, well it said" error, you may not download this movie because your storage is almost full". And all I want is either a refund or a resolution to this problem. And I would like Orr as soon as possible.

how do a get a refund on a ridiculously slow downloading rented movie for my apple tv dispite a >5mb/sec down load speed? my first experience with appletv movie rental. no good. rented at 4:30pm. still waiting for standard def movie to finish at 8:10pm. Not good enough.
Thanks for the pointers folks. Yeah, 1.5GB is pretty poor isn't it? There are other suppliers, but you have to get a their phone line installed to access the internet so it's an £85 setup fee plus a day off work for a guy to come round and drill a hole in your wall before you even get to the monthly costs.
Don't get me wrong though - I'm certainly not an Apple basher, but am equally frustrated with both them and the ISP.
Virgin Media spend all kinds of money advertising their broadband as the fastest in the UK, but don't tell you (up front anyway) that you'll be cut off if you actually try and use it.
Apple on the other hand carry on with their 'it just works' mantra, but with Apple TV this only applies if you meet certain criteria (again, not mentioned up front).
I guess it aint a biggie, as i was gifted my Apple TV, and love all the other stuff it does, but from the number of posts on this forum can see that there's a lot of angry customers out there who want explanations as to why they're having similar problems to me.
Will be very interesting to see if Apple release any kind of software update that turns the flash drive from a buffer to permanent storage, to at least ease some of the pain...

Help - i recently made put together a high quality movie for a relative, it has taken me months to complete and it goes for a total of 9 hours and 43 minutes ,however, it won't let me export the video at all! please help - its taken ages to make it!

Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
That was for single-layer DVDs. Double these numbers for dual-layer DVDs.
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced technology to encode your video, resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned abo
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

Need latest protocol for preparing movie for web in X
Hello. The basic problem is slow start on You Tube. My general question concerns preparing a movie for the web; not restricted to You Tube.
In FCP 7, it was export using QT conversion, to Quick Time Movie using broadband Med or most recent settings, choose H264, choose custom size 16:9 HD 1280 x 720p, prepare head for internet streaming by choosing quick start ,
adjust settings, and save. Then, Open .mov (usually 1 G for 3 minutes) in QT, choose export to web, transcode, and send 50-100 Mb M4V or sometimes MP4 to Host. No problem.
When I open an .mov prepared in X, the QT Player no longer allows the same options as it did when processing 7 movies. Am I missing something? I click export to web with the new system and it just starts in coding.
I appreciate the automatic features of X, but am having problems with both stutter start and a few more upload problems that I see as temporary.

EdCheck your Applications > Utilities folder. That's where the OSX Installer moved Quicktime 7 (also known as Quicktime Player) when Quicktime X became the standard player. Your pro license should still be activated. If you don't find it there and you have a Snow Leopard (or earlier) installer disk, you can find QT7 in the Extras folder. Make sure you do NOT overwrite Quicktime X when you move or install QT7 (both are originally named "Quicktime Player" - but you can rename the older Quicktime Player to "Quicktime Player 7" before moving it into your Applications folder.)
The problem with MPEG Streamclip and other "third party" conversion software (like ClipWrap and Smart Converter) is they use FFMPEG open source x.264 codecs. Apple's H.264 codec is superior (arguably, marginally better... but better.)
YouTube will "respect" your upload if it's already done well (to their specifications.) Otherwise, their software will recompress it.
In QT7Pro, you settings should be:
Compression type: H.264
Frame Rate 30 (or 29.97) fps (29.97 is the "true" 30...) [Even if your project is 720/60p - YT wants 30]
Keyframes: Automatic
Frame Reordering : OFF!
Data Rate: (I'll get back to this)
Optimized for: Streaming (only allowed with Best Quality encoding setting)
Quality: (if you specify a data rate, you only can use "High" -- and you *should* specify a data rate)
Encoding: Best Quality (Multi-pass)
Audio:
Format: AAC
Channels: Stereo (don't think it matters)
Rate: 44.1KHz
[show advanced settings]
Render settings (doesn't matter - normal is fine)
MPEG-4 AAC Encoder Settings:
I use Variable bit rate ; Sound Quality at 128 - 160kbps (about 2/3's to Best on the slider)
(you can use a constant bit rate - i think YT allows up to about 192kbps, but I don't "push it")
If you fall within these parameters, YT is not likely to futz with your vid, you'll get what you put up.
Now, for the Data Rates:
For 1080/30p (29.97p) I've found that 4Mbits/sec is adequate for most video (most of mine are tutorials). If you have sections of your video that have something like trees blowing in the wind shot against a bright blue sky -- you will definitely need a much higher data rate (check your transitions too, they can be subject to some nasty blocking/artifacting when highly compressed). To figure out how much, take a 5 second clip* of the highest action and transcode it at - start at 12.5Mbits/sec (or 12,500 kbits/sec) - and see if you notice any "blocking" - if you do, crank up the data rate another 500-1000kbits/sec (or more if it's pretty bad). If you don't — try optimizing your compression by reducing the data rate until blocking appears. You shouldn't need to exceed 18Mbits/sec... Upload your 5 sec clip to youtube and see if it works out okay. If so, just delete it. Transcode your video to those specs and upload to youtube. Remember your settings - they'll serve you well.
For 720 video, 3200kbits/sec is a good starting point. 480 - 1500 kbits/sec. and so on...
Bandwidth (aka data rate) is **key** to good video. The more compressed your video is, the more YT likes it. The more YT likes your video, the more likely they'll leave it alone and just pass it straight through. (I have seen them pass through data rates up to 18Mbits/sec. Just follow their rules.)
[*In Quicktime 7 Pro, you can set an in and out point anywhere in your video by typing 'i' for the in point and 'o' for the out. Copy (Command-C) the selection. Command N to create a new player and paste - and you have your 5 (or whatever) second clip.] -
Trackpad periodically doesn't register movement for a number of seconds.
Every once in a while, probably once a day, my trackpad will stop registering movement for 5ish seconds. It can still click just fine, but it won't move. Usually it will start reading again for a second, then freeze up for another few, and on like that for half a minute until it goes back to normal.
Has this happened to anyone before?I'm having the exact same problem with my MBP. So far I've run all AppleJack's options except for disk permissions and reset the PRAM without success.
None of these symptoms show up when a mouse is plugged in, which is 90% of the time for me.

Got code from movie for digital copy
got code from movie for digital copy, the lorax. Went to itunes, signed in, typed in code, hit redeem. Pop-up appears saying to sign in. I fill it out, hit redeem, and it pops up again. After 10 attempts, the redeem page changes to 'your page has timed ou't.The whole time I am already signed in! never had this issue before. Tried to do it on ipod, same exact issue.

Are there fewer movies for rent, pushing purchasing?
Why are there fewer movies for rent via itunes on my AppleTV? Movies that are available for rent thru other services (windows, amazon, etc) are only available for sale in itunes. I don't want to purchase movies, I want to rent them as I previously have done for the past 2 years with my AppleTV. Anyone know what's going on?
