FCE to Quick time to mobile me query

When shooting AVCHD (1920/ 1080 50i), I log and transfer at that size in FCE. Once the project finished, I export as quicktime conversion (H264 / best /audio pcm / size 960 x 540). The aim is to post on mobile me gallery @ 960x540.
However this is not the case. Resulting size seems to be 640 x 360.
For the clips I edited in imovie, I do have that option to choose large (960x540) for sharing to moble me.
I even output from FCE @ full in quicktime to see whether there was a difference. none.
Should I use a different export set up such as quicktime, broadband high and then share from quicktime? however there does not seem to be any quality control available there.
Or is there a set up in quicktime for setting the size of sharing which I have missed?
Thanks for your kind assistance.
Patrick

ooops, sorry I must have been fully unclear. Apologies for that
The resulting quicktime file is 960x540 and plays beautifully on the computer. the next step is the real issue:
I then use in quicktime the share to mobile me function and then the result on the gallery is not at all the 960x540 that I would get if exported a through the imovie to mobile me facility for instance.
Does that make sense now?

  • Importing Quick Time file to FCE problem

I tried to import a quick time movie I had saved on a DVD from work and it would not import into FCE. It says "unknown file". But other quick time movies that are on my Mac import fine into FCE. Both my work Mac and home are almost identical-Power Mac g5. Why is this happening?

QuickTime comes in many shapes and sizes and not all work with FCE.
Files from a DVD are multiplexed.
They will need to be de-multiplexed before FCE can use them.
    Search this forum for demuxing.

  • FCE crashes when export using Quick Time

    Hi All,
When I select "Export - Using Quick Time Conversion", FCE crashes. I tried to repair permissions and rebooted but it did not help.
Export using QT was working fine last week. I did some maintenance checks with Onyx over the weekend. Could it be the problem.
    Any suggestions for fix?
    Thanks.

FCE Scratch Disk is an external 500GB drive (it has always been and it's been working fine the last 1.5 years) External drive is connected via FW800.
In Final Cut, I use HDV1440X1080 1080i. Please let me know if you need any other settings.
    I use Quick Time V10.0 (113)

I have used still photos to make a Quick Time movie using FCE.  The DVD made using i-DVD looks somewhat grainy and the motion isn’t smooth when played on my TV.  Other DVD’s I have made play much better and I am wondering if the problem is my Quick Time movie settings.  The Dimensions and size of the problem movie are 1920X1080 and 584 MB respectively, while the movies that play better  have Dimensions of 853X480 and are about 1.3 GB in size.  Is this the source of my problem and how do I change things for the better.

Are you exporting to QuickTime Movie, or to QuickTime Conversion?   For iDVD, you need to export to QuickTime Movie.   Exporting to QT Conversion will kill the quality if you are moving the video from FCE to iDVD.
The file size per se makes no difference.
What size (pixel dimensions) are the photos that you put into your 1920x1080 sequence?  Also, exactly what are the sequence properties ... is it 1920x1080i60 ... or i50?  In North America it should be i60.
853X480 is an odd frame size.  Where are you seeing this number?  It would appear to be DV-NTSC, which has a frame size of 720x480.  Your 1920x1080 frame size would not be DV-NTSC, it would be Apple Intermediate Codec.   DV and AIC will look different, for sure.
Also, your quality setting in iDVD can affect the final video.  You may want to check that also (in iDVD Preferences > Projects).  Set it to Professional Quality if at all possible.

  • I have asked iTunes to print a cover and get a Windows failed and it shuts down iTunes.  The iTunes support asks for a serial number.  My previous iTunes won't print CD cover is what started this.  I have removed and reinstalled the iTunes, Quick Time etc

I have removed and reinstalled iTunes Version 11, Quick Time, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device, Bonjour, and Apple Applications Support.  I received this instruction from "http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923.  I reinstalled Version 11 and it still will not print the CD covers and shuts down sometimes when I ask it to print.  I hope they will find a way to make it work.

Well my first guess was wrong. The line that failed is the one that writes out the image to disk. I've not revisited the code for that script for ages, but it seems I did add in an extra test for missing files a little while later, then forgot to upload the change. I can reproduce the error message if I deliberately rename a file to confuse iTunes so that seems the most likely reason for your problem with the script. I've uploaded a new build of CreateFolderArt which should work better.
See FindTracks for a tool to repair broken links. You should probably get that issue fixed first.
I know what SPSS stands for but that is all I know about it.

  • Copying quick time files to dvd

    Question..
I converted a DVD home movie (no copyright protection) to a quick time movie....I want to save that quick time movie to a DVD so I can send it to a friend, so he can import into FCE...I tried to accomplish this in iDVD, but it showed a VOB file, even though I dragged the quicktime file over to iDVD...maybe i should "write" it to a DVD? Thoughts?
    Thanks for your help!
    Curt

I'll give it a shot and let you know...Thanks very much, and no need to worry, just a home movie project I'm working on with a buddy..no bootlegging!

  • How do I export a Final Cut Express 4 movie using quick time conversion without stretching the image?

I have created a movie in Final Cut Express 4 using videos and still photos of various aspect ratios and resolutions.  Some of the photos are verticals.  When I try to use File>Export>Using Quick Time Conversion, my images end up being stretched horizontally when the video is finally processed.  I have tried preserving the aspect ratio but the video still ends up stretched horizontally.  What should my settings be in Quick time conversion?  I just want to make a video for YouTube.
    Thanks.  -Bob

If you shoot in one of the following modes you should be able to Log & Transfer directly into FCE:
HD:  1920x1080/60i (FX or FH mode)
HD:  1440x1080/60i (HQ or LP mode)
    SD:  720x480/60i
1080/60p (PS mode) seems to be the default mode in your camcorder.  FCE only supports progressive video in 720p50 or 720p60.   That's probably why you have had to import via iMovie.
It would be better to upgrade to Final Cut Pro X, the version currently supported.  FCE was discontinued over 18 months ago and is not supported on Lion or Mountain Lion.

  • Cannot open Quick Time movies in iLife 11

I got my first digitized Super8 films back on an external hard drive, 1 TB. They were converted to Quick Time movies 1280x720,
Codecs: Component Y' CbCr 10bit 4:2:2 ( I have no idea what this all means). All I had asked was to get them in .mov files. Quick Time movies seems to be something different than .mov files.
What can I do to open these Quick Time movies and to edit them in iLife 11?
Would appreciate if somebody could help me .

The information about the codec in Final Cut Express is at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3523
I have a lot of old Super8 films and decided to get them digitized. After that I intend to discard the old analog films and keep two copies of these old Super8 movies on external hard drives. Therefore I am looking for the best possible quality at a reasonable price.
The first batch last year was digitized to what they called uncompressed .mov files and could be easily imported and edited in imovie.
For the second batch (another service) I decided to go HD in .mov files, again uncompressed (the HD quality 1280x720 seems to be remarkably better) What I got are these Quick Time movies that I cannot open in Quick Time and imovie does not let me import these Quick Time movies, whereas the uncompressed .mov files last year were a breeze to handle. What's the difference between 'uncompressed' .mov files vs. Quick Time 'uncompressed' that I cannot open in imovie.
Now you are pointing out that FCE does not let me edit uncompressed QT files. How do I convert to .mov or MPEG Streamclip?
Would I purchase Final Cut Express only to be able to open those movies in Quick Time?
Feels like I am at the low end of the learning curve.
Appreciate all help I can get for my project.

  • Cannot Place Quick Time Object Controller in Power Point

I get a Visual Basic Error message that reads "Object library not registered" when I try to place a QuickTime object on a Power Point slide. Can anybody help me figure out how this can be done? I need to embed a Quick Time movie into a Powerpoint presentation (without having to link to it) It can be done with Flash and Real video, but for some reason I cannot get it to work with QuickTime. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do I need to buy QuickTime Pro in order for it to work?
    Thanks,
    Greg

You could look to use Presenter to create quiz question slides in the PPT deck, and then the Mobile viewers should see them and be able to interact (I think).
The issue with the SWF file is Apple considers that SWF to be a real-time change to the code of the room, and disables it as that is against their policy for apps. So I'm not sure that there is anything you can do differently to your SWF to make it work. Have you tested loading the SWF directly into a share pod, without the PPT? Not sure that that would result in anything different, but worth a try.

  • Share Error Quick Time Failure -50. Anyone know what's going on?

I'm trying to transcode a five minute project that's fairly involved - multiple audio and video channels, graphics etc. When I try to send it out of the Share option in Final Cut 7 to either Apple TV or Mobile Me or YouTube, I keep getting the same thing after about a half hour: "Share Error Quick Time Failure -50." Anybody know what's going on? I'm sending it to the movies folder. Thanks.

I haven't gotten that to work for months, maybe 10 months or so. I gave up. I just export and do whatever I want with the file. I create a self-contained MOV file that I hang onto as a "master." I put that into either Squeeze or Compressor and make what I want from it.

  • Help to install iTunes and Quick Time please!

I really hope you can help me. I have been working my way through this forum for around 5 hours today. I have tried a number of your suggestions and have made some progress.
    - My iTunes hasn't been working for some time. I tried to uninstall it and reinstall a fresh version but it wouldn't uninstall.
    - So following forum advice, I downloaded and ran Windows Install Clean Up and also did a manual deletion exercise. This left a few odd files that wouldn't delete.
    - I have downloaded iTunes 8.2 but it won't install. I get an error message: "error writing to file: c:\programfiles\commonfiles\apple\mobile device support\syncservices\schemas\calendars.syncschema\contents\windows\calendars.ex e Verify that you have access to that directory" and eventually I get a message telling me that iTunes needs Quick Time.
    - I also downloaded the stand alone version of Quick Time. When trying to install it I get the error message "error writing to file:c:\programfiles\quicktime\pictureviewer.resources\ko.1proj\pictureviewerlo calized.dll Verify that you have access to that directory"
    - I can confirm that I am the only user of this computer and I have administrator rights.
    - I have installed the latest Microsoft updates.
    - I have restarted my computer about 3 times, after each major thing I've tried.
    Totally Stuck Now!
I did read a suggestion about using a Microsoft fix but it involves going into the registry and I don't have the confidence to do that, I don't really know what I'm doing at all, I'm just following my nose!
When my computer starts up CheckDisk says "correcting error in index $0 16208" and after correcting and sorting it says "an unspecified error occurred".
    Please help!!

It sounds as though the file referred to in the error message is corrupt and Windows cannot read it.
Try running a disk check. If it finds and fixes errors, try reininstalling. If not it it doesn't work, go on to the next step.
    Try renaming c:\programfiles\commonfiles\apple\mobile device support\syncservices\schemas\calendars.syncschema\contents\windows\calendars.ex e as ...calendars.old.
If Windows will not allow that, then rename the containing folder.
This should allow the install to proceed as it will not see the corrupt file.

  • MBP shuts down when making Quick time conversion

MBP core duo 1.83 2G ram current updated software.
It shuts down when I try to do a Quick time conversion..
went to the Genius bar and booted from another drive and my macbook still shut down when doing a QT conversion. He says that means it is NOT a software issue.. blames the logic bd.. 310. for a fix if I send it out.. they would keep it overnight and do testing for free.
the console says "previous shut down cause: 3"... He said that was a code for shutting down by holding the button for 4 seconds and got all puzzled about that.
I have been able to convert files using Compressor which I have to do before I can use the go pro video in final cut.
it might have shut down once during a conversion that way.

Monitor your CPU core temp and see at what temp the computer shuts off. Also, download SystemLoad and run that for awhile to stress the processor. See if you can get it to shut down with that and at what temp.
