FCE Voice Over

I have successfully added several voice-over clips to their respective video clips in the FCE HD (v 3.5.1) time line. Now when I try to record the next voice-over clip, I get the message "The specified capture destination file already exists". How do I get beyond this message so I can continue recording voice-over clips? Thanks, Jack Akerboom

Change the name in the voice over window before you start recording.

  • Protools mbox and external mic in FCE voice over

I'm doing voice over for a project and I want to know if its possible to use my Pro Tools Mbox with a good quality mic and run it into FCE for the voice over. I know FCP is an option when I look in the Pro Tools core audio set up and when I go to my Mac system preferences "sound" the Mbox is there as an option. I select it for input and output but when I go to the FCE voice over - in "source" the Mbox is not an option - only "bulit in audio" and "DV audio". The only option for input is "line in"
Any suggestions on how I set it up so I can use my mbox and a high quality mic in FCE.?
    Thanks
    Karl

Go to the Voice Over window, (Option+ 0) and click on source, built in...
    Should Work!
    It doesn't work.
Again, I have a Sony HDR-HC9 camera connected via firewire. I plugged the mic (Sure SM58, xlr to 1/8 inch mini cable) into the external mic input on the camera.
When I select Built-in mic it doesn't recognize (hear) the audio.
I haven't found a camera selection for the external mic. It appears as though when an external mic is connected the built in mic is bypasssed. Do you know this to be true?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Chas

  • Best mic setup for FCE voice overs?

Hi - I need to add a voice over to some footage. Any recommendations on microphones... Would the standard audio in jack be good enough, or would a Griffin iMic be the best option?
    Cheers for the advice.

I use the M-Audio Fast Track guitar/mic recording interface. You can hook-up your XLR mic or use it to play your guitar in Garageband.

  • Voice Over beeps in FCE using Blue Snowball Microphone

    Hello,
I would like to use a Blue Snowball Microphone, the same one advertised for sale on the Apple Store, to record voice overs in FCE. I have had some success, but there are beeps in the recording. How can I avoid those when doing voice overs?
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    Hi(Bonjour)!
YOur voice over captured audio needs rendering because the rate do not match of your easy setup (for audio).
Pay attention that your settings in voice over window is set to 48000 hz rate. See pages 625 and ss. of your user's manual (in the help menu).

  • USB audio input to voice-over tool not working

with FCE-HD on iMac i have system preferences set to USB-122 Tascam box for audio input/output (works great with GB for instance) but when i try using it for audio input on FCE and the voice-over tool set to USB-122, i hear no audio, the level meter doesn't more, etc, its still taking the audio from the built-in mic.
im sure its something simple im overlooking??

    Mark,
See if this post helps. Not familiar with USB audio devices myself, but found this searching:

  • Voice Over Tool Lockup

I upgraded to Lion last week and now when I select Voice Over Tool, I get the beachball and the application just freezes. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I have to do a force quit to get out. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

I did try removing the pref file, but it made no difference. I was already at 4.0.1.
I bit the bullet, offloaded all my files to an external hard drive and wiped my Mac clean. I then reinstalled Snow Leopard. Everything is working fine.
Not sure what the hang up with Lion is on FCE. All the video editing works fine. Just causes the entire system to lockup while using Voice Over. Not sure if it's related to FaceTime but sneaking suspicion says maybe.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Interface for Final Cut Express Voice Over

    Hi all,
I would like to do voice overs in FCE. I bought a reasonable quality XLR mic (Apex 415), and a USB interface (Tascam US-122L) for this purpose. The combo works fine for garage band, and shows up as a selection under input devices in my sound preferences. It also shows up in the dropdown list in the voice over tool in Final Cut.
When I try to select the device however, I get the error message
"The selected sound input device is unavailable. It may be in use by another application, disconnected or improperly connected, or may be conflicting with a video output device"
After hours of searching for some way to fix this problem, including a trip to the local Apple Store to speak with a Final Cut Expert (he wasn't very knowledgible), I am about to give up and return the interface.
    My questions are:
    1. Anyone know how to fix this problem (I bet it is fairly easy)
    2. Anyone have any other input devices that they can recommend for my Microphone? I have seen a lot of m-audio stuff on the apple website, any experience with their products?
    Eternally grateful for any help.
    Bjug

    Update....
I returned the TASCAM interface since no one had any bright ideas on how to fix this problem. I bought a an M-Audio Fast Track Pro. I hooked it up to my mic....and it works like a charm.
In case anyone was wondering what works.

  • No audio with voice over

I am redoing a 2008 project. I get no audio for either music or voice over when playing timeline. When I mute the voice over, then I get audio for the music.
I followed advice to eject external disk that contained the voice over file, since it said that somehow the voice over was not synched or something like that. I rebooted because it said that by rebooting the problem might be solved.
I have video out set to canvas playback as was suggested in this forum.
The disk my voice over is on is not the same as the disk the other aspects of the movie are on. When I play the voice over segments on the disk where they are stored, I hear them just fine in real player.
So what should I do to be able to hear them in FCE?
Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi -
Since 2008 is now 3 years ago, have you changed your software, computer, or storage devices since you originally did your project?

Is the voice over track one continuous clip, or is it a bunch of shorter clips that are positioned on the track?
I followed advice to eject external disk that contained the voice over file,
Who or what gave you this advice?
since it said that somehow the voice over was not synched or something like that.
Who or what is "it"? When reporting warning dialogs from FCE, the more accurate you can be with reporting exactly what the warning dialog says - the faster you can be advised of a solution to your problem.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are saying. Are you speaking about output controlled by the View menu or a setting in the Audio/Video settings? Is this audio problem associated with +outputting the video+ to an external device or is the problem apparent when using the audio monitoring on the Mac?
The disk my voice over is on is not the same as the disk the other aspects of the movie are on.
    OK.
When I play the voice over segments on the disk where they are stored, I hear them just fine in real player.
Are they Real Player documents? Or did you mean Quicktime player?
So what should I do to be able to hear them in FCE?
If you look at your browser, are there clips that have red bars slashed through them? If so, control click on the clip and from the drop down menu choose Reconnect Media. If the clip is showing up on the timeline with a Red Media Offline thumbnail you can also do this by control-clicking on the offline clip on the timeline.
When the reconnection Pane opens, you will see the file listed as Offline and a directory path where FCE last found the file. You can steer FCE to the location of the file that you found and verified using the your audio player, and reconnect the media so that FCE now links to that file.
Post back if this does not help.

  • Final Cut Express Voice Over

The voice over function on FCE 4.01 seems to work sometimes and not others (in the same sequence). when it doesn't work the window comes up and the count down occurs but nothing is recorded.
I haven't worked with FCE in a while and am getting back up to speed with the new version. My mic is fine- I have fiddled with all the obvious settings and can't figure out what is going on- any guidance would be appreciated- it is driving me crazy.

The Patch Panel is Final Cut talk for destination controls in the Timeline. This is the ability for FCE to direct a certain edit to arrive in a certain place in the Timeline that the user controls as opposed to the "what happened then" scenario.
The Patch Panel is to the right of the Timeline. Each Track has a name. Audio is called A1, A2 etc. Video is called V1, V2 etc.
On a default or new Timeline you kick off with 2 video and 4 audio tracks.
Note that A1 and A2 have additional tabs connected to them called a1 and a2, click on them and watch them break apart, click again to re-join.
If any tab on the Patch Panel is broken apart you cannot edit to that track. This allows the user to control if _audio only_ or _video only_ is sent to the timeline, and importantly, where it arrives. You can also drag a1 or a2 to any vacant audio track to insert a Voice Over. If nothing is selected or there are no spare tracks existing, the VO will automatically create a (New) track.
I'd suggest placing a unique name for each VO in the Name: field so you can locate a specific one later on.
As mentioned, look in the Target Field of the VO Tool to know where it's going before you start the VO.
If you can't do a VO eg. playhead is at the end of the Timeline, *No Recording Range Set* appears. Overide this by entering in/out points wherever you like.
Hope this blurb steers you in the right direction.

  • Voice Over - Text Speak

    Hi,
just wondered if there is anyway of using the 'text speak' thats on my macbook pro as a voice over on my wedding DVD.
I don't really want to use my voice as a voice over, unless it can be altered in any way shape or form in say Garage Band?
    Kind regards Jonyfoz

I know the Speech to Text facility is marvellous when it reads to you but I think you would find that on a DVD it would be obviously mechanical and rather laughable.
You don't notice its peculiarity of intonation and expression when you are getting it to read emails etc. because all you are concerned about is whether it is clearly audible.
No matter how dodgy your voice may be, it will probably be better than something that could end up sounding like a joke.
However, if you wish to give it a try you can download something like a demo of Audio Hijack or Audio Hijack Pro.
    http://www.rogueamoeba.com/legacy/
Some of the old versions, which still work on my Snow Leopard iMac, are either free or have a ten minute time limit. This would not matter as you would just make several recordings.
These apps basically can be set to record sounds (eg Text Speech) coming from your computer and the audio can then be imported into FCE and edited to go with the images . . . . . unless you prefer to edit the images to the audio.

  • Voice Over Error Message

Suddenly, FCE 1.0.1 displays this error message when activating the voice over tool "The specified capture destination file already exists." Is there a simple remedy?
    G4   Mac OS X (10.3.4)

Try assigning the VO to a track other than an existing one. This can be done when the VO window first opens.

  • Voice Over workflow recommendations

    Hi,
I trying to find the most efficient way to get a good voice over in FCE. I used the voice-over tool in FCE but it seemed to be really noisy. I'm using a condenser mic running through a E-MU 0404 USB interface. What I ended up using was Garageband--the sound quality was really good, but to see the movie for the voiceover, I had to export the movie from FCE and then import to Garageband. I could then view the movie and record the voice over with GB.
This works, but I'm wondering if anyone has a better method.
    thanks

Thanks skalicki--I swear I checked that (famous last words . I just tried again and made sure I was getting the proper input from my mic and that sound is very good. That must have been the problem!

  • Voice Over and Touchtype on Numpad

I am using numpad keyboard for entering amounts. When I am using Voice Over and Touchtype I have to double tap to enter the value but on the standard keyboard I can do the one tap. Is there a work around for this, any help would be appreciated? I don't want my customers having a problem switching how they use different keyboards.
    thanks

I very cheaply recorded some audio with the lens cap on as I needed a little bit of a voice over
Sounds like the audio rate from the camera and the Easy Setup in FCE were mis-matched.

  • Sound Voice over questions

    A few sound questions...
Is there a way to capture only the sound to save space from my Camera...?
When using voice over, it collects all the fan noise from the computer... is there a solution for this?
Is anyone aware of a Digital Voice recorder that could be used and converted for narration and voice over.... ?
    I have mac without intel
I Mac 17 inch with superdrive Mac OS X (10.3.9)
    Thanks

Thanks so far... I am just looking to get voice over picture narration... so just need voice recording ... Now if I can pull music off a CD... is there a way to record on a digital voice recorder and transfer to CD...
The Imac does not have a plug for an external mic, that I can find...
The problem as I see it with recording voice on Camera is that I just need the voice, not the picture and so it uses up a lot of memory to do voice over in Camera since I have to import the useless picture as well so if I am being clear here, I am just trying to have sound tracks such as the ones you can import off a CD
I have been looking a digital voice recorders but most do not seem to work with mac... and I am not exactly sure of what sound file type transfers into FCE via Itune import.
So the short question here are what are the options just for sound files for FCe?
