FCE4 captures tape with zero duration

Hi,
I´m capturing a DV-tape from a Panasonic camera. I´ve used Capture now having a limit of 62 minutes on the length. I let FCE capture the 60-minute DV-tape plus 2 minutes extra. However, after the capture is done FCE says it was succesful, but in my capture Bin I only have a new clip with length 00:00:00:00?

If FCE encounters an area of blank tape during capture that may cause the drama.
Make sure there is Timecode all the way through the capture.

  • Calls with zero duration are sent with 1/1/1970 timestamp

    Hello.
We are configuring billing on a third-party server for a hospitality projects.
All is fine so far. However we saw that calls with zero duration (such as missed calls, busy tones etc) are tagged with a wrong timestamp of 1/1/70.
Since we are passing this over to the hotel PMS, they are having trouble interpret it and often their interface crashes.
Has someone encountered any similar issue?
    Our System version: 9.1.1.20000-5

I only see the 1970 date in fields like Call Connection time. And for a missed/busy call, that's the best you can do as the call didn't connect, so the call can't have a connection time. Either the field has the 1970 date, or it has NULL in it. Either way, if your third party software can't cope with it, it's broken as this is all as per Cisco's spec.
The use of the 1970 date is (OK, a time of zero) is clearly documented

  • Problems with Zero Duration .flv files

I've recently had to troubleshoot issues with over 1200 .flv files that have an incorrect duration of 0 (zero).  I know that the keyframe data has information on the duration in these files, but I'm wanting to access this data programatically at run time and update the player so the seekbar works as expected.  After a frustrating series of searches, I've not come up with a solution and would like to know if anyone knows how to solve this issue.
I know it's possible, since the same file loaded into the Akamai utility shows the duration as Zero, but the seek bar has the correct time.
    Thanks,
    D

That's why you can't convert...you are converting the supported frame rates.
yes, EditReady is TONS better. They are always on top of the latest AVCHD formats (every camera uses a different variant of AVCHD).  It used to be that they had two apps...EditReady for QT formats and  ClipWrap2 for AVCHD...but they have now rolled all of those features into EditReady...one app for everything. They have a free demo so you can try it and see for yourself.

  • Capture tape with time code recognition

Hey guys I have a DV footage with alot of cuts that someone put out to DV tape for me. I have to capture it into my FCP. Can I capture and have FCP see the cuts and create clips for each?
I usually capture now or Batch, but would prefer to have FCP see the cuts and save me time.

If they wrote the video in one continuous session, you are out of luck.
FCP uses the time of day difference in the meta data to figure out scene breaks. Video streams written in one chunk (even though they involve lots of scenes) are essentially one scene.
Time to get down and get funky with log and capture.
    Cheers

  • Capturing Problem with Sony TRV330

Capturing problem with Sony digital8 trv330.
I recently purchased the above camcorder from eBay for capturing old 8mm/Hi8 tapes for editing purpose. The camcorder set to A/V -> DV OUT connected with Firewire to my Power G4 and the Easy Setup was DV-NTSC. The playback on the capture window looks OK except there were no timecode in the Timecode Duration Field and the Current Timecode Field (both shown 00:00:00:00) during playback but there was timedoce in the camcorder viewfinder. When I click the Capture Now button, the capturing window show up with message “waiting for timecode ….”. I have to click “esc” to stop the capturing operation. I trash the Preferences and Ran the Disk Utility without success. I also tried the Easy Setup with DV-NTSC DV Converter as well as DV-NTSC 32Khz, nothing work.
My set up is: Mac Power G4 version 10.5.5/ F.C.E. 4.0.1/ QT7.5.5/ Startup 160 GB-89 GB available/ Scratch 350GB-277GB available. Folks, I need help. Thanks everybody.

Hi, I have a similar problem. I am trying to digitize my 8mm tapes (via firewire) using final cut express (4.0.1). Using easy setup I use DV-NTSC DV Converter and do capture now. I transfer the entire tape but notice the audio is out of synch with the video. This problem gets worse throughout the transfer process. When I use the esc to complete the transfer I get the error " The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape....." So after searching around it is recommended I change the audio sample rate to 32 kHz option. However, when I do this using easy setup and picking DV-NTSC 32kHz I cannot use capture now because I have no timecode and so the window comes up with the message "waiting for timecode". Since there is no timecode this option does not work. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dan

  • Unable to batch capture-"tape not threaded"

I've logged some clips and when I go to capture them I get the following message "Unable to proceed-The tape is not threaded." What does that mean? And how can I capture the clips? They were logged via firewire from a Panasonic PVGS150 (mini-dv). I'm a fairly new user so help in simple terms would be much appreciated! Thanks!

From my experience with Sony and FCS is that capture now works most of the time. I have had my fair share of what I believe are firewire time code issues. What I like about the capture now is that new clips are made each time the camera cuts making it easy to find the takes you want. As of right now I am working with the HDMI port into the Comvergent Design MI Connect device coverting to HD-SDI into my Kona LHe card, I connect the firewire into the MI and run DV timecode out threw the rs-422 deck control connection thinking this will help but it still has issues stopping capture in the middle of a take. I'm going to have to re-install an older version of OSX and 5.1 to see just when this started and hopefully find a combination that works. I have a PPC and all the latest updates even the pro apps update that just came out a few days ago. I will also try using the AJA VTR Exchange capture software with the MI using TC in the HD-SDI stream, avoiding capture with FC. I wish I could tell you what it is but I hope someone is listening at Apple.

  • Exporting to DV tape with a DVX 100a

I am trying to export a project from FCP to DV tape using my DVX 100A camera as a deck (I know that it would be better to use a regular deck but that's not in the budget right now so please no need to offer advice about using a regular deck).
I have read that the fire wire of fcp 4 is not supported by the DVX 100A. However, I can get the computer to communicate in capturing mode with the dvx through firewire, but cannot get it to communicate the other way - - going from the computer to the camera to export to tape.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Jim

    thanks for the response.
I am wondering though, what are you referring to when you say QT ISSUES. what is QT6?
When you download from you computer on to your DVX, what setting did you use on your DVX? I put mine on video, but get nothing other than a blank blue screen. As noted before, I know that the camera and computer are communicating because I was able to control the camera through the firewired in that mode.
I might just be missing a very simple step. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Trouble capturing tape into FCE 4.0

I am a beginning FCE 4.0 user, who is extremely frustrated. The manual has not helped me at all.
I had been using iMovie HD 06 for some time with acceptable results. I have a tape with a lot of overexposed scenes that I was not able to fix in iMovie 06. I do not care for iMovie 8, since it is a step down from version 6, and is a much more limited program. So I thought I’d give FCE a try, since it has superior tools for color correction, brightness and contrast, etc.
Now I can’t even capture my tape the way I did in iMovie 06. If I understand it correctly, I either have to set in and out points on every clip on the tape I want to capture, to get individual clips as in iMovie. This is extremely tedious, and will take me many hours, if not weeks, since I have well over 150 clips on that particular tape. Or I have to capture the tape “now”, which will result in just one continuous clip, with a length of 1 hour. I can then run the command “Mark/DV Start/Stop Detect”, which will divide the clip into segments, but this still leaves me with just one clip in the browser. I can then cut the clip on the timeline into individual clips, and drag these to the browser one by one. This again is very tedious. I have a feeling I am doing something wrong, and that it must be possible to capture the individual clips to FCE. If anyone can tell me how, please do.
I also tried to open two previous iMovie 06 projects into FCE. Unexpectedly, this gave me two very different results.
The first one seemed to open into FCE just fine. All the individual clips were in the browser, and the movie was on the time line. The clips are neatly “Arranged by Name” in the browser window, in the correct order. However, when I played back the movie in the Canvas window, there was no sound, only beeps. So I rendered the movie. Now I am not able to add any effects to the movie in the timeline. I cannot drag any transitions in between clips, nor can I add any color correction and/or any other effects.
The second movie did not open correctly. After opening the project, the sort order of the clips in the browser is in icon view and is wrong. It starts with Clip 169 through Clip 202, and then continues with Clip 01 through Clip 168. Why?
However, when I choose “List View”, the arrange order is correct. When I then choose any of the icon views, and “Arrange by Name” I get the following screwed up sort order:
    Clip 01 through 10, Clip 100 – 109, Clip 11, Clip 110 – 119, Clip 12, Clip 120 – 129, Clip 13, Clip 130 – 139, Clip 14, …… Clip 190 –199, Clip 20, Clip 200 – 202, Clip 21 – 99. Why is FCE opening one iMovie project seemingly correctly, but the second one incorrectly?
Again, no sound but beeps, so I have to render. And again, I am not able to add any transitions or effects anywhere.
So far, this is as far as I have gotten with FCE, which is to say, I have accomplished nothing of what I wanted to accomplish. What should I do?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
+I can then run the command “Mark/DV Start/Stop Detect”, which will divide the clip into segments, but this still leaves me with just one clip in the browser. I can then cut the clip on the timeline into individual clips, and drag these to the browser one by one.+
Capture the entire tape is my preferred way to go. I use Mark/DV start/stop detect to break the long clip in segment AND make all those segments independent with the COMMAND-U shortcut (after selecting all segments in browser). Collapse the original clip toggle switch and work with your new clips.
+However, when I played back the movie in the Canvas window, there was no sound, only beeps.+
IMovie and final cut express captured material don't support the same audio container as iMovie works with DV stream and FCE with DVCPRO. The rendering for audio from clips captured in iMovie is normal.
+Now I am not able to add any effects to the movie in the timeline. I cannot drag any transitions in between clips, nor can I add any color correction and/or any other effects.+
IMovie doesn't need "handles" in front and end of clip to add transitions. FCE need extra material to compose the transition (that's the way professionnal video editing software work) and keep the sequence's lenght constant.
I dont understand why you cannot add filters. Please do a test. Import any still image from your user directory images folder into a sequence. Add a color correction filter, and see if it works.
+After opening the project, the sort order of the clips in the browser is in icon view and is wrong. It starts with Clip 169 through Clip 202, and then continues with Clip 01 through Clip 168. Why?+
All versions of FCE have this sorting bug when list view-arrange by name is selected. If you capture from tape and use a 3 digits numbers convention for your clip, you should bypass this behavior.
+So far, this is as far as I have gotten with FCE, which is to say, I have accomplished nothing of what I wanted to accomplish. What should I do?+
FCE is designed mainly to capture material and edit it. Processing a iMovie project is not the ideal workflow. Can you consider to start your projects from scratch within FCE ?

  • Batch capturing tapes Wowsa what a Hose!  Please Help...

Hi all, i have a bunch of tapes I did not shoot. Yesterday I was on a mbp with latest FCP and a Sony DV Cam. Long story short, the MBP burned up and the Sony had to leave for a shoot. So today I have the same tape with a new Imac and a Canon XL1s cam. The iMac was restored using Time Machine, so it's the same software. The Canon cam will record and allow me to capture just fine...but with the tape I was using yesterday, I get all kinds of broken timecode errors. I can't even recreate the a clip from yesterday, even though in the Log and Capture window I can see that the timecodes match up between what was logged on the Sony and what I want to capture today on the Canon...arg!!!! any idea on what to do?
I tried going device control=none (or whatever) and I get "Capture encountered a problem reading the data on the source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted and your clip has been saved.
The video looks okay but the audio is all choppy, so perhaps there is some strange thing between a sony and canon on audio? I can't get ahold of the shooter as he is out in a village somewhere shooting, but he told me he shot the tape in PAL SD 16bit audio, and what was captured on the Sony the other confirms that. I think. Very confused and stressed out now...first a blown PC, now this. Thanks!
It seems when I try and log a clip, say 30 seconds, and go to batch capture it, FCP is stopping a lot and saying [locating timecode break (press 'esc' to stop]. FCP pauses here for some amount of painful time, then continues with the capture. And is captureing random bits it seems. If I turn off device control, I get Capture encountered a problem reading the data on the source tape.
I was using a Sony the other day and the same tape was capturing fine. Now I have another machine and another camera, a Canon XL1s, so I am not sure what's up. Can anyone help me diagnose this problem?
If I record a bit of film on the Canon and capture that all is fine. I don't have access to the Sony anymore, so what to do?
    The timecodes look consistent

You should try this on the Final Cut Pro forum.
Are you sure it's a PAL camera?
"The iMac was restored using Time Machine, so it's the same software."
You can't install pro apps like this. It will always causes problems. You must install the software properly on a correctly installed OS. Restoring will not provide a correct OS installation for pro apps.

  • Digitize Beta tape with Sony UVW 1800 Betacam SP deck

    Hi guys
I'm trying to digitize Beta tape with using Sony UVW 1800 Betacam SP deck. We've tried so many ways but still no luck.....If anybody has successful experience with this, please share the wisdom...!!!
I wrote what we've tried so far.
From Sony UVW 1800 Betacam sp deck to Sony media converter DVMC-DA2:
-S video cable, From BNC to RCA video cable, Audio cable connected with RCA cable.
(I've tried S video cable and BNC-RCA video cable at a time and one at a time.)
From Sony media converter DVMC-DA2 to Macbook pro:
    -Firewire 400w/ firewire 800
    FCP 7 settings:
    -DV-NTSC easy setup
-Device control preset: We've tried Non controllable device, Firewire NTSC, Sony RS-422
Sony UVW 1800 betacam sp Settings:
    -VTR setting(Local/Remote) is on Local
Sometimes we've also tried Keyspan adapter with keyspan driver. Keyspan serial assistant found Keyspan device but doesn't seem like I can have deck control on my mac...We used Rs422 cable to Mini din8 cable to connect Betacam deck and Keyspan.
But in FCP, it keep saying 'no communication'....sometimes it says 'not threaded'.
We've hooked Betacam Deck to Sony monitor to see if we can see pictures but we can't see anything or hear anything.....We can see just timecode. We have PVM-14N6U monitor and we used BNC cable to connect those.
Again, if anyone knows any small thing about this problem, please help me.
    Thank you!!!!
    P.S:
Even about cheap and good Betacam repair shop info is really helpful to me...!:)
Does anybody know any store which can offer service like sending a person to fix Betacam deck?
    Thanks again!!

    OK...this hits me:
We've hooked Betacam Deck to Sony monitor to see if we can see pictures but we can't see anything or hear anything.....We can see just timecode. We have PVM-14N6U monitor and we used BNC cable to connect those.
You connect the deck to a monitor and don't see or hear anything.  OK...is the deck WORKING? Perhaps you can't capture anything because you aren't getting a signal from the deck.  The deck will have 2 possible outputs....BNC that's a COMPOSITE signal (meaning SD video, a complete, but low end video signal), and three separate ones known as COMPOSITE...R-Y, B-Y and G-Y.  Try both of those on the monitor. There's also one called SUPER. This is a COMPOSITE signal that also displays timecode.  If you can see timecode on the monitor, that means you are plugged into this. BUT, if you see timecode and no video image...that means that the tape is bad, or the video heads are bad....because you are getting a video signal from the deck, but no image from the tape.
So we aren't even talking about the Sony converter...right now just trying to get a good signal...and you can't even do that, right? Might need to try another deck.

  • Tape with Unkown Format - What Apple Pro Res 422 Codec settings to use?

    Hello All:
Someone gave me a couple tapes with interesting footage to use. Is there a way to determine the tape format settings so I can select the correct codec setting to use in capturing the tapes? There are a lot of choices. These are MiniDV tapes but, I don't know anything more about the cameras used or settings selected by the person taping.
    Any ideas?

Thanks evertyone! For any following this thread, from a combo of sources, here is the answer (worked for me, anyhow):
    1-verify deck recognition by computer:
-W/deck on, choose Apple menu > About This Mac >> and press the More Info...
-From System Profiler select FireWire. Look to see if the deck is listed.
If not, you're done => there's a problem w/ the cable, firewire ports (computer or deck), or with the deck. If it's identified, go to step 2.
2-check all settings on the deck and in FCP
    On the Deck:
    - be sure the iLINK CONV is set: OFF
-if iLink Conv is already OFF then check FCP settings:
FCP menu > Easy Setup and select HDV 1080i from the selections available
-finally, in View menu choose Refresh A/V Devices
Open Log and Capture .... deck should be recognized.

  • Trouble Dumping to tape with Graphics

    Hey guys,
I'm having a real hard time dumping some video down to a tape and having the graphics work as well.
    Here's what I'm doing.
I've overlayed the graphic (Targa, but I've tried everything from .PSD to .TIFF) in the second track on top of some video. Everything looks perfect in the canvas window. However, on the monitor that is fed from my deck and ultimately on the tape itself, the graphics don't look nearly as good. Instead of straight lines, they seem to bend, and the text seems to bend as well. Its really strange because I even tried to place just a shell of a graphic and fill in the text with the FCP text tool. As soon as I place the text inside the graphic, it starts to distort and bend on the monitor, but it looks perfect in the canvas.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm at my wits end..
    Thanks,
    Evan

Try this. Dump to tape with the problem. Capture this material. Do you see the problem in the canvas? If not, there's a problem with your monitoring setup. You might also want to see if you're material is within broadcast spec. Turn range check on (in the view menu) to see whether the video is kosher. If not, the simplest thing to do is apply the broadcast safe filter.

  • Capturing exact break down duration in a Notification

    Hi experts,
My client requirement is like this:
Plant is operating only 2 shifts. i.e. 6 AM to 11 PM (No 3rd shift operations).
Breakdown occurred at 9 PM in the evening and the equipment restarted by 7 AM next day. Notification has been created with these timings...i.e. from 9 PM on the day actual breakdown occurred and next day 7 AM as end time. Now system is proposing breakdown duration as 12 hrs., where as actual breakdown is only 3 hrs, (since the plant is operated in only 2 shifts, even the technicians worked only 3hrs to rectify the problem).
Since SAP is considering 24 hrs , the realistic breakdown times are not being represented.
Please suggest how to handle this i.e. to capture only actual breakdown durations.
Is it necessary to create to different notifications (with 2hrs and one hr duration), because of two different dates, ?
    Thanks in advance....
    Srinivas

    Hi srinivas
Srinivas, when the SAP is implemented, they have designed the SAP Standard timing for 24 hrs. It can be restristed to 16 Hrs with respect to your work hours. So the problem is you cannot reser or create or any work after the 16 hrs. To avoid this kind of issue they have desided to go for 24hrs.
Here comes the problem with the break down. You feel if the break down duration increased, it affects the MTTR.
The break down occured at 9PM, when u create a notification, it takes the malfunction start timing and date which the notification was created or u can enter the accurate timings.
Break down is nothing but the equipment is stopped till the equipment is started. thats the normal timing of the break down. You can change it, if u want to get the accurate MTTR etc...If u manipulate, then only ur MTTR will not increase.
To calculate the exact time of work, you will be comfirming labours work duration in IW41. So, there u can enter the labor worked only for 3 hrs, which means actual cost of the labour. It will be accurate.
If u give the break down duration as 3 hrs. It means rest of the time the system is in idle. Waiting for start.
At last : SAP will calculate for 24hrs, since it was defined. If u change it, it will lead to many problems. So manipulating the hours wil be efficient to get the break down and Confirming the labour timing in IW41, give the accurate work hours. Actual cost of labor.
    Hope u understand it

  • Items with  zero stock quantity show negative stock value in Stock reports

When running Stock reports for controlling the stock value towards the GL accounts, some items appear with zero stock quantity, but the report still shows a stock value  (negative value in my case)
How can this happen, and how can I correct this situation ?
System parameters are :   negative stock is not allowed, Items with zero cost price not allowed. On item level average cost price method is used.
    P.K.Johnsen

    Hi Johnsen,
I believe you have checked the" Manage Inventory by warehouse". I have noticed this issue in SAP B1 2005B but this is rectified in 2007B. The system behaves in this way as the system maintains item cost for the item for all warehouses and even if the stock is not present in the warehouse, the system would still show you a value for the same. Hope this helps. please search the forum. You'll find related threads.
    Thanks,
