FCP 10.1 Title render hanging

I installed 10.1 on Mavricks and when I try to create a title the render engine hangs. All past videos with titles show up as unrendered as well. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone know how to fix this?

Turns out there was a bad font. It was located in my user folder. USERNAME > Library > Fonts. I deleted them all and reinstalled.

I use a regular font style in the titles of my iMovie 11 projects, but when importing to FCP X, the titles are converted to italics.  But there is at least one exception: rolling credits don't get changed.

Almost a fantastic post. I'm in your boat here.. but... there are some people can make a living with what FCPX offers.
You can still be a professional without needing the features that most of us broadcast/film professionals need.
FCPX is a fantastic program for some people... for others a stab in the back.
Whereas FCP7 worked for everyone - we had the choice. Now we don't.

  • FCP 4 won't render

    Hi,
I'm using fcp 4 and I when I try to render some scrolling text, it takes a long time and then comes up with general error 34. After that, it won't render anything. I have made sure that all the option colors are checked, and I have tried dumping the preferences.
    Thanks

    Hi David,
There is lots of space. I had a student that added some titling to a project at the end of a video, and it wouldn't render. Then when I put the same titling on top of a clip, it rendered without a problem. I'm not sure why this was happening.

  • Livetype Title Render Quality

I currently am trying to render some livetype titles in FCE, and for some reason, the fonts look a bit blurred and interlaced in the canvas preview window.
I did print to video and took it over to a television and the titles looked fine, however here's my question: What if I am using FCE to create a video for the web? On all the computers I have checked this video, the titles do not look "professional." Is there any way that I can remedy this?

    Tom (and Nick),
Thanks to this thread I've had one of those "A ha!" moments when everything falls into place (I hope).
I've wondered why there are frequently posts regarding "Livetype Quality", etc, yet others don't have these problems?
Often the user is referring to the quality of the display in the Canvas in FCE/FCP. Responses are often along the lines of "The Canvas and computer monitor are not capable of displaying the same quality as a TV Monitor can, etc and you should always check output on a TV Monitor", etc.
This makes sense since a TV Monitor is interlaced and (I think) the canvas drops a field in it's display (at least when not set to 100%)
However, I don't think that's the real problem some of these people are having. As Tom mentioned, it's all down to the codec.
I bet these users are working in the DV codec which unfortuntely just can't do what Livetype is capable of in the Animation codec.
Unfortuantely, those replying are probably pros and are working in better codecs than DV, such as uncompressed 8-bit, etc and therefore the degradation isn't as great for them. They aren't having the issue due to this.
I think perhaps someone should make a sticky of this codec limitation, since issues with Livetype/Motion Quality come up all the time and I bet a lot of the time it's nothing to do with the user mis-interpreting what the Canvas displays over a TV monitor, but to do with the user working with DV.
Add to that sticky this excellent post by Kevin Monahan over at Kenstone's site:

  • FCP suddenly won't render anything

I had a project a client wanted a scene cut out so I deleted the transitions, selected my in and out points and shift + delete to remove the footage & close the gap. I put in a dip to color transition (green) but FCP won't render it, I just see a very brief window pop up and nothing. I removed the transition and it won't render the ends of the 2 clips (both are JPEG RGB graphics)Cap locks are off, all colors selected in sub menus, no gap, plenty of footage, tons of hard drive space. The system has been running like a dream up to now. I even deleted an existing transition, put it back and it won't render it. I've worn the book ragged reading it over and over but I must be missing something. Have also rebooted & checked my preferences though nothing seems out of place.

Sometime a sequence muff up with no reasons, what i do , i save the job save project as.. with a complete new name close FCP and reopen it with the new file most of the time it is working ,if not, export the complete sequence in self contained QuickTime movie

  • FCP X Animated Titles Error - Help!

    My OSX is 10.6.8, FCP X 10.0.7
I am working on a trianing project for the last few months.
It was working fine until i installed a software patch for FCPX which came through the apple software update. (well this is my assumption and i am not an expert on FCPX)
Everything except my Animated Text Titles seem to work.
My animated text titles shows a offline red exclamation mark.
They also shows a red bar on the rendering progress as you see in the picture.
i have used the built in animations such as Continuous and fade from FCPX gallery.
After reading another post, I tried importing a saved project fcpxml from my secondary copy and it comes up with the following error.
If i cant find a fix i will have to redo all the animated text titles (3000) of them
    Someone please help me....

I have the same issue and would love a fix.  In my experimenting I came across a temporary workaround, and subsequently have a similar issue exporting from Motion 5.  Still no real solution, but here's what I've seen:

  • FCP Crash on Long Render/Can't Output to Tape

My project file size is about 350MB and is layered heavily with Sapphire effects (primarily lighting effects). If I attempt to render the entire 30 minute sequence, FCP crashes about 1.5 hrs into the render. Is this a RAM issue? I have a 3GHz Dual Core with 8GB of RAM. I wasted an entire day rendering small sections at a time. Once the sequence was fully rendered, I couldn't output to tape without dropping frames. I don't have this issue with any of my other projects. Any thoghts?

You can output to tape using a DV or HDV Timeline Sequence.
Can you provide us with the Sequence settings that is trying to be output to tape?
Also the camera needs to be set to recieve one or the other ie. DV or HDV.
My thoughts are there is a configuation twist somewhere.

  • Fcp forces me to render Apple Pro Res 4444 files when i drop on timeline

i shoot with the canon 5d mark ii and i have been having problems making my videos easy to edit. I convert them from h.264 to the apple pro res 4444. when i take the files and then attempt to drag them into the project timeline, i am prompted to change the settings to match that of the video format. when i select no, all of the files require me to render before playback. when i select yes, i always get dropped frames and the video stalls and fails to play. selecting no and rendering is not time efficient at all and i know there is a better way to do this. any help or suggestions? i'm clearly doing something wrong.

    Hi -
While it may seem counterintuitive, transcoding to a ultra-high quality, specialized format like ProRes 4444 actually, in most cases, counter productive.
Converting your h.264 files to ProRes 4444 is like buying size 26 shoes for size 9 feet. Apple ProRes 4444 is there for specialized use by people editing large frame size images +WITH an alpha channel for each frame+. To properly play it back will require both a high horsepower computer and high speed disk drive array to support the data rate involved in that format.
May I make a suggestion? I would be to convert your h.264 material to Pro Res 422. Even ProRes HQ is beyond what you need to handle your material correctly.
When you convert your files to ProRes 422, and allow FCP to set the sequence to the same settings, you will find that you will be able to edit without rendering. And don't worry - the quality of your image is set by the h.264 compression, the conversion to Pro Res 422 will not degrade it.
A frequent example given on these boards: if you take a can of beer, and pour it in a keg, you still have just a can of beer, but it is harder to carry around - and the keg certainly takes up more space.
There is a very useful White Paper written by Apple that describes the various flavors of ProRes and their correct application at:

    Hope this helps.

  • Send to FCP always needs a render

Hi, I'm working with some ProRes 422 (HQ) footage in Color and I click the add all button and begin the render, when I select send back to FCP it says not all your clips are rendered even though all my clips have completed next to them in the render que.
Once back in FCP I have a green line and have to render again. Why is this occurring?
    All latest FCS3 updates.

Hi, thanks for the answers. OK the 'not all clips are rendered' question is answered as I did have slugs in my timeline.
Both apps are definitely set as ProRes 422 (HQ) but maybe the res is changing because my footage comes in at 1440x1080 but comes back from Color as 1920x1080, there is no option inside Color for 1440x1080. So maybe that is why? Though I only get the green render bar over my sent back footage sometimes, not all the time and it's always the same camera being used and imported in the exact same way.

  • Can't Render - Hangs on 0%

    Hi all,
    I'm using CC.
I setup a render of several long clips and it worked great until I realized I needed audio and had to stop the render.
Now I'm trying to re-render (after deleting existing renders), and it hangs on 0%.
    Cores are inactive.
    Please help!

    I got it working properly.
    HOWEVER
I can't batch render individual files with audio turned on.
If audio is switched on, each file is the length of the timeline, or thereabouts.
Is this a known glitch? Rendering out at Prores 422 23.976.

  • Rendering in FCP: I render, close FCP, and have to render again

    Hello all,
Maybe this is a question which many of you will find easy to answer, but I do not understand why after rendering portions of my timeline that do need rendering, it plays fine, but if I close FCP and restart it later it needs to render those portions again...
Is there something I am doing wrong when I render? I usually select the clips that need rendering and choose "render only" and "clips that need render".
    Thanks.

check the trash for your lost rendered files. If they are there, your Render manager is deleting them prematurely.
If they're not in the trash, they should still be in your Render folder.
You can debug this (but not necessarily fix it), with some tedium, by opening the render folder and sorting by date. Render the project and note the new filenames, maybe label them red or blue. Close the project, open it. Are the files gone?

  • FCP keeps dumping my render files

    I can't understand this. I am using FCP 5.1.2 on a PowerMac G5 Dual 2.5
When I render video in my sequence everything is fine. The sequence plays, the red line above the timeline disappears as it should. Then when I quit FCP and then either immediately restart FCP or even some days later start FCP, everything is unrendered, the red lines are back and I get the media offline prompt to reconnect media. When I locate the media, the files are always in the trash. It seems to happen when I shutdown the computer, because when I boot up my trash shows content, and even before I launch FCP I can check the trash and it always contains FCP render files.
Anyone any idea what is going on?
    Thanks in advance.

Hello and thank you to all that have replied to my troubles. Very big apologies for the delay in my response. Other work issues forced me to move on from this problem. Needless to say, this one hasn't gone away!
Here is a bit more info:
I have used FCP Rescue. I have deleted my FCP prefs folder. The root to my scratch disk is HD2/Final Cut Pro/Capture Scratch. This drive has between 60 and 100GB free most of the time. This drive is not my startup volume.
Just for reference, I am not sure if the folder heirarchy is correct for FCP. My Final Cut Pro folder on this drive contains the following folders in its' root:
    Audio Capture Scratch
    Audio Render Files
    Autosave Vault
    Capture Scratch
    Render Files
    Thumbnail Cache Files
    Waveform Cache Files
Should all these folders be in the root of my Final Cut Pro folder? The reason I ask is that when I look into my Render Files folder the most recent projects I have worked on do not have project folders within this folder. In fact they do not seem to exist anywhere, apart from in the trash!!!
I hope you can pick back up on this issue for me. I am really only just getting to grips with FCP having been an AVID Media Composer person in a previous life. The software seemed fine for me when I didn't need to know what it did behind the scenes. Now I do and as you can tell, I'm struggling.
    Thanks again.

  • Help: Working with .MOV files in FCP and forced to RENDER FOR EVERY EDIT

I'm working with .MOV files from my digital camera in Final Cut Pro and every time I make a new edit, I have to render it in order to see it in the canvas.
How do I make it so that I don't have to render every edit in order to see it?
(I've worked with files straight from a DV camera, and editing went fine. I'm assuming it has to do with the .MOV files)

DV Cameras are not the same thing as a Digital camera. Digital cameras offer video on a limited basis and it's usually highly compressed in a non-editing format such as MPEG-2 or similar. NLEs are made to work with video cameras, not still cameras which is why you're having trouble.
That's not to say you can't edit video captured with a digital camera, but you need to know how to prep it for editing. Some digital cameras shoot at odd frame rates and they all use some form of compression that is not typically used in editing. This means that you'll likely need to convert your clips to an editable format first using Compressor.

  • FCP 7 crashing on render and when exporting quicktime movie & rendering

    Hi Guys,
I recently upgraded to Lion and am still using Final Cut Studio 3.
I have a 1.37min sequence which i wanted to export and burn the DVD. My normal workflow for this is:
    - Export/quicktime movie/make self contained
    - Open compressor and convert
But FCP 7 keeps on crashing on export, in fact is very unstable recently. It also crashes on rendering, and quite often when im editing.
    - Final Cut Studio 7.03
    - Footage is HDV 1080 50i
    Any ideas on a solution??

Are you converting those clips to ProRes in ClipWrap? Or keeping them native? You MUST convert them to ProRes.
The NXCam came out just before 7.0.3.  FCP did update to mesh with that camera, but it's still rocky. And now that FCP 7...legacy...has been discontinued, there will be no more updates. But you have ClipWrap so that should be fine.  As long as you convert to ProRes.
