FCP 4.1 won't run on intel iMac

Hi,
I've just recently purchased Final Cut Pro 4.1... yeah I know it's not the most recent version, but I will be upgrading to studio eventually, and have installed it, and when I try and launch FInal Cut Pro, nothing happens.
Any thoughts.

it is Michael,
as I tried to explain, v4.1 is not Intel compatible,
you should be using v5.1 and above to take advantage
of your new Mac's processor ... you can try the
Rosetta trick (which attemts to run the application
by using the PowerPC emulator) but as has also been
pointed out. it might not work.
bottom line. if you bought v4.1 specifically for
your new Intel Mac, then you bought the wrong
version
that said, I'd try the Rosetta trick before I gave up
hope... and worst case scenario is having do the
crossgrade which happens to be a really sweet deal.
Thanks Andy, I understood what you were saying, and I will be crossgrading to 5.1 eventally.
Fortunatey I have an Mac Mini so I can pracitse with that, I had a feeling before buying 4.1 that it woudn't work on the Intel machine, but you can always hope.

  • Does FCP 4.5 or 5 run on Intel iMac?

Thinking of buying the iMac 2.16GHZ 24inch Intel Core Duo Mac or the iMac 2.4GHZ 24inch Intel Core 2 Duo iMac.
I have FCP 4.5 but might be able to buy FCP 5. I will not be gettingn FCP 6 anytime soon. Will either of FCP 4.5 or 5 work on the intel iMacs?

5.1 will for sure, not sure on anything previous to 5.

  • Does FCE HD run on intel imacs?

There are comments on other forums that FCE HD won't run on intel-based Imacs. Any truth, workarounds? I'm considering an Imac, and they come with FCE installed (not sure if HD) as an option, so I can't understand why this problem would arise. The complainers say it needs AGP card that is not present on the imacs.
    imac 20" Mac OS X (10.4.3)

FCE-HD runs perfectly fine on Intel based Macs. If you are purchasing a new Mac with FCE-HD pre-installed, you will get FCE-HD version 3.5 which is the correct version.
What you heard about is a minor problem that some people had when they tried to run FCEHD version 3.0 on an Intel Mac. They got the AGP error message but you could always ESC from the error message and FCE would run.
FCEHD version 3.5 is the correct version for the Intel Macs.

  • Will FCP Suite work OK on the dual intel iMac G5 ?

We are getting ready to open a new digital video classroom for up to 26 students. Each student will have a G5, NTSC monitor, firewire capture device of some sort, and sound I/O to quality sound system. Anyone have any experiences or insight to using the G5 dual core intel iMac's for FCP Suite? Motion, FCP, etc....all work fine? And is there any problem with using the sound jack on the iMac for importing/exporting sound?
Any input, and links to other research on iMac's and FCP would be very helpful!
    Thanks in advance...

    Welcome to the forum swatkins!
The current version of FCP 5 will not run on the intel macs but at the end of next month Apple will release a version that does. see here: http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/
My suggestion would be to wait, and contact your local edu rep from Apple about the LAB pricing... it's wonderful for schools.
iMac's should work OK with this new version, however it's not out yet of course so no one that knows can say, and those that say don't know...
That said, there are inherent problems with iMacs using them for FCP, at least from a Pro point of view... They aren't expandable beyond what can be captured thru Firewire, so it's going to leave you editing HDV, DV, or possibly DVCPRO50. That's probably not a problem for a school though. Be careful about specifying scratch disks for your systems. It's best to use another physical disk drive for capturing video to... when it's time to do this, look at Weibetech, Granite Digital, or G-Tech drive setups because they will work fine looping the firewire from a camera or deck thru them (the iMac only has one firewire bus). Other drives just don't support this very well, and dropping frames results. If you need any help whatsoever, don't hesitate to contact me. Also look into sharing DSR-11 machines amongst the computers so you don't use cameras for capturing (because they wear out really fast doing this). You're better off with a few DSR-11's and FireWire switchers to route them to the different stations, than using cameras for the capturing...
Also, it eases your class procedures to have these computer labs on a LAN so you can share media quickly between the various computers...

  • Macromedia Flash MX Professional 2004 not running on Intel iMac

SIGH. This is added to the enormous list of problems I've had with my new Intel iMac.
I'm a pro user and am confused as to why Dreamweaver MX will run but I can't get Flash MX 2004 Professional to run. It starts up, loads fonts and what not, shows a blank timeline for the new document as it should and as soon as the GUI for Flash comes up ka-boom it crashes.
Then I get the general "unexpectedly quit" notification.
Anyone else having this problem? Is Rosetta a synonym for Lucifer?
This is what the error says if it's of any use to anyone:

I'm on a Mac and don't had this problem. But I do watch for
video issues on this site and haven't seen this – I might
have missed a few, but most Flash users are on Windows so I think
it would be common if it were something wrong with Flash in
    general.
Then again, what do I know? Because the more I'm thinking
about it the more I think I might have had this problem. But I
really can't remember. And sorry to say the solution was to not use
the import function to edit my videos.
You also might want to just see if it is the format of the
file you are importing. Perhaps a different source will work
better? I'm just grasping at straws here.
If you have many of these to do and a budget I suggest
getting a third party tool like Squeeze. Otherwise if you have some
third party editor you might want to use that.
    Good luck!

  • Does ARD 2.2 run on Intel iMacs?

I'm trying to install ARD 2.2 on a 17" Intel iMac and I'm getting an error after the install when I try to open the application. (The installation process runs fine and it tells me that the software was installed properly).
    http://www.xid-renrag.com/wow_screenshots/ARD%20error.jpg
I tried restarting the computer and still get the same message. Is it because it's an Intel machine that it's not working, or is there something else I can try?
    Thanks.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Try this:
    - Ensure ARDAgent.app is not running. In most
instances, this just means ensuring that Remote
Desktop isn't enabled in System Preferences ->
    Sharing
    - Navigate to
    /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ in the
Finder, and Get Info on ARDAgent.app. Check "Open
    using Rosetta".
    Hope this helps.
Awesome! That did it! Thanks a ton Dave.

  • FCP 4.5 won't run after tranfering it to new Mac Pro

    Hi.
Bought a Mac Pro from the apple centre. Used firewire to transfer all files and programs to the new machine.
When trying to launch FCP the program says required hardware not found and that's that.
    So, any ideas?

    #29: Need AGP Graphics card
    Shane's Stock Answer #29
    You either need to either:
    1) use the following hack -
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/finalcut_pro_on_oldmacs.html
    or
    2) Upgrade to FCP 5.1
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302667
IF you get 4.5 working, it won't work as fast as you are used to. Best to upgrade...the Crossgrade was designed to work on this system, and the older macs. And in the future, always install apps from original disks, never copy them over.

  • 10.6.3 disk won't mount on intel iMac

I have an intel 3.06 GHZ Core 2 Duo iMac running 10.5.8. I purchased Snow Leopard family pack 10.6.3. I installed the disk but after about a minute it dismounts and gets ejected. Won't display on desktop. What's up?

Or the disc itself could be damaged, possibly as a result of use in some other Mac with a dirty optical drive or contamination or scratches from handling it between uses. Look carefully at the surface of the disc for scratches or contaminants, which may be faint & hard to see.

No it is not possible at this time.

  • Windows 7 won't install on intel imac

I'm having trouble installing windows 7 ultimate (64 bit) on my imac. it's the 20 inch model from early 2007 (EMC 2133) if that helps.
It seems that when I try to install the windows 7 OS on my new partition the screen goes black and prompts the message "select CD-ROM boot type" and above that are options 1 and 2, both blank. Also at this point the keyboard does nothing; all I can do is restart the computer.
When I start up the computer and hold the option key I can see that computer recognizes the disk as "Windows", so I know the disk is fine, but I can't use it to install windows 7.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

I was having trouble myself with my iMac regarding a black screen and a blinking cursor after installation where the iMac would just stay idle. Below are solutions for all iMacs that have a problem with their graphics cards (ATI & NVIDIA).
Some people complained that they can't find the "repair your computer" from windows DVD. In all cases repeat steps below:
    *Solution 1:*
If you have a secondary monitor, connect the monitor to the computer before you install Windows 7. Then, you will be able to complete the setup process. After Windows 7 is installed, you can install an updated driver that corrects the eDP issue through Windows Update, Boot-camp or Snow Leopard DVD.
    *Solution 2*
When doing the repair windows step, it didn't work asking to provide a repair disk or something. I then clicked install driver, browsed to the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder and then renamed the ati*.sys file (only one file!) to ati*.renamed (NVLDDMKM.SYS or ATIKMDAG.SYS depending on your iMac)
Once installed, pop in the Snow Leopard OS DVD and run setup to get all the drivers working.
This can also be done with an NTFS plug-in (Tuxera, NTFS-3G, Paragon, MacFuse, etc.) that will allow you to see the files on BOOTCAMP on OS X. Follow the same path and rename the file.
The solution _+*Boot Camp: iMac (27-inch, Late 2009) displays a black screen during installation of Windows 7 using Boot Camp*+_ (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173) didn't work for me...but!!!
Drag "Drivers" and "AutoUnattend.xml" from the iMacLate_2009_Win7Drivers folder, which was expanded in step 4, to the USB or SD card device's icon to copy the files to it. Do not copy them to any subfolders. (Normal USB or SD, no partition or Master Boot)
From the Windows 7 installation DVD, start the computer that has the AMD Radeon GPU that uses eDP (or NVIDIA). Immediately connect the USB flash drive after the computer starts from DVD. Follow the instructions to complete the installation process. When the system restarts for the first time, disconnect the USB flash drive.
If this still doesn't work for you, there a more..:)
    *Solution 3:*
If you applied solution 2 and you still have problems, try the steps below.
Solution 2 will make the Windows 7 DVD have the option "Repair your computer" for those who can't see it.
    Repair startup issues
    1. Put the Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start your computer.
    2. Press a key when you are prompted.
    3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then 4. click Next.
    5. Click Repair your computer.
    6. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
7.In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
Type (these commands are safe - more information)
    Code: Bootrec.exe /FixMbr
    Code: Bootrec.exe /FixBoot
    Code: Bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd
    *Press ENTER after each command.*
    *Restart your computer.*
That should do the trick! However if you still can't start Windows, then follow step 1 to 6 again and type these commands.
This has been tested on iMacs with ATI and NVIDIA cards. I hope this helps everyone as it I know how frustrating this process can get!!! Once again, this is a complete guide for most iMacs that support Boot-Camp. (32-bit and 64-bit)
Good Luck everyone and please let me know if it worked for you.
    George

I followed the directions that were given above with no luck. I tried about 3 or 4 times, following the directions to the T. In my frustration, I got up to go grab a beer and when I cam back, the computer had recognized the new driver and now it works perfectly. The moral of this story is that patience is a virtue. All the previous times, I would go to the drop down list to see if the printer had been added to the list. All the while the little progress wheel was spinning away and was looking for the driver and I was to impatient to let it do its job. So if you have had no luck at all, then give it about 5 minutes to search for the driver. BTW, I am on a 700MHz G4 Emac with 512 Mb memory and it works like new.

  • Safari and Internet Explorer won't run on my iMac G4 anymore (OS 10.2.8)

I cant get Safari or Internet Explorer (IE) to work on my iMac anymore. I can get iTines downloads and standard updates, but Safari and IE won't work - usually Safari will open (IE will usually not open completely - hangs up and must be force quit). Safari will hang up when loading a web page. Any ideas?

Try deleting the preference files for each.
Go to Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.Safari.plist and com.microsoft.explorer.plist.

  • IDVD won't run with my iMac PPC G5

I'm on an older iMac power PC G-5, and I'm still on OSX .5.8.
All I am trying to do is burn a DVD with iDVD, but I get message sayind my versions aren't compatible.
    What's up with that?
I'm assuming I need to either upgrade my operating system, and/or purchase new iLife?
My iMac is so old I wouldn't even know what version I need that would work for me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to purchase and install iLife 06, 08, or 09, and then run Software Update. You can't upgrade the computer's OS any further.

  • Epson CX7400 won't print on Intel iMac OSX (10.4.1)

I got a new printer when I purchased a MacBook with Leopard and setting it up to use on that computer worked just fine with a direct USB connection. When I installed the software on my iMac I cannot get it to work properly, either with Airport or a direct USB connection. I have tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling as well as going to the Epson site to download the latest updates. Whenever I try to Add this printer I do not see this particular model in the Epson Model list. As some on the discussion groups have suggested, I have tried choosing other drivers which use Gimp-Print v. 5.0.0-Beta2 but with no luck. I have gotten as far as getting the printer to run when I click Print, but it wants to keep printing either blank pages (more than the 1 page I have checked) or pages with gibberish on them--there is definitely a communication problem between the computer and the printer. How can I get the correct driver for this particular printer to appear in the printer list? Ideally I'd like to use it through my Airport network with my new MacBook, but even a direct USB connection would be good at this point. I have succeeded in getting a printer (Epson CX4200) to work through Airport on both computers--but of course that driver is on the printer list.

  • HT4783 It does appear that compatiblity between different Macs is a problem. On my 2008 iMac Aperture is still OK but my MBAir of 2011 reports it won't run! The iMac seemingly won't run Airdrop because it is "old". Huh? Now the better DropCopy fails on th

Sorry for the lengthy title, I wasn't clear what I was doing.
Anyway I have two Macs. iMac from 2008 and 2011 MacbookAir. Airdrop I thought really poor when it appeared and no competiiton for DropCopy. My iMac, I'm pretty sure ran Airdrop to begin with but now at just over 3 years old is effectively obselete. Then to add insult to injury DropCopy is OK on the MBA but crashes repeatedly on the iMac.
So, I removed the Dropcopy and went to the App Store to reinstall it but it showed as "installed". That's it. What's Windows 8 like?

Go and have a look but you are nit gonna like what you see.
You have not mentioned what systems you are running on the two Macs, if they are on a network etc. That info would help a fair bit.
    Thanks
