FCP 4.5 help and Importing from I TUNES

Hi List...
Something weird happened, and I can't seem to figure out how to change it:
My FCP 4.5 help now opens in Adobe Acrobat instead of "Finder"....I actually like the "Finder" better...but can't figure out for the life of me how to reset it....can anyone help?
Also, I can't seem to Import music directly from "I-Tunes"....I can copy them to a folder on my desktop, then import them (.aiff) which is fine...but is there a way to import directly from I-tunes?

The manual is a PDF document, that if you don't have Adobe Acrobat, opens in PREVEW, not the FINDER. Once you have Acrobat Reader installed, it defaults to that. Remove Acrobat and it will go back to PREVIEW. Or Get Info on the document and under OPEN WITH select PREVIEW.
Import directly from iTunes? What do you mean by that? FCP doesn't integrate with iTunes, so you have to know where the music is stored (in the Music Folder in several sub folders) OR, copy it to your Media Drive. I like the second option better, as I can then keep track of the music I am using in my project.

If you are talking about some "Karaoke" method using Logic I'll try to offer one. Before that I must say that most of the Karaoke methods are based on reversing the Phase of one of the stereo channel and bussing or merging the stereo into Mono. The result is: killing all Pan Centered in the mix - like Main Vocal, Bass, Kick, SN ect.
The artifacts of the Stereo FX of the main vocal will stay in the Karaoke, cause the FX is stereo etc.
Here is the Logic Setup I can offer to try some Karaoke trick using Logic.
1. Import a Stereo mix into a Logic Stereo track.
2. Create another stereo track and duplicate (copy) the Original Mix region to the duplicated track.
3. Hard Pan L/R both stereo tracks.
4. Insert an EQ and Gainer plugins into the duplicated track (R).
5. Set the Output select of the both tracks to a Bus and assign the new Aux Track Switch mode to "Mono".
6. Open the Gainer plugin and thick the "Phase Invert" Right button.
7. To keep the "lowend" instruments like the bass and kick, open the EQ plugin and enable the Low Cut filter and try some Hz settings 80-115, or different Q which will sounds better for your Karaoke.

How to create package and import from jar file?

Hi all,
I am writing a software and I am not sure how to create a package for the classes.
Say I have two classes in the same directory as follows:
testA.java

package AB;
public class testA
public static void main(String[] args){
     testB myB = new testB();
     System.out.println("A test");

public testB(){
     System.out.println("B constructor");
both file compile without the package heading;
both file compile using: javac -classpath .\ *.java
Question 1:
I cannot run testA by: java -classpath .\ testA
I think it is a syntax error. What is the correct one?
If I run testA by: java testA
The only output I get is: A test
But I am expecting: B constructor /n A test
What went wrong?
Question 2:
I need to use APIs of another software. I have downloaded a .jar file (xxx.jar) with all the classes in it. And I have put "import xxx.*;" in my source file. But the compiler complains about the importing. What is the right way to copmile it?
I have read a couple of tutorials but they don't answer my question.
(I am using windows2000 and don't have the classpath variable.)

If you have:

Then to execute testA from ./ type: java -cp . testA

Need Help with importing from iphoto

I am having trouble importing from iphoto it will allow my pics to show up but if I try to drag them to the frame below it will begin to import and then an error message will pop up say import error (-4960) what do i do to fix this.

Memory should be a problem (as you have already figured out).
Perhaps you should do some basic maintenance first:

You just drag the titles or transitions to the timeline-no need to "apply".

FCP 7.01 crashes when importing from a DSR 11 tape deck.

I am trying to import to FCP 7.01 some DV Pal footage from the DSR 11 tape deck. When I play the film it shows in the viewer fine, but if I then click the capture now button it crashes FCP. I have rebooted several times and it has happened about ten times consecutively. Any ideas why? I've been capturing using cards since getting the new system and not needed to do this before, but need to import a dvcam tape and can't do it.

deck is connected via a firewire cable, device control is set to Firewire Pal, capture input DV Pal 48k Anamorphic, 5TB of space on scratch disk available. This is a new system and I have output to the deck fine for a previous job, but now have this issue with importing from the same deck. Crashes FCP every time.

When my husband and I try to share our libraries and import from each others libraries, we get as far as seeing the library on the screen. The next step is to look for the 'Show' menu at the bottom of the screen, but neither of us has any such thing. ?

Export and import from lower db version to upper version

No consideration required during exp/imp between same version such as 9i here.
Their are different consideration in different versions as ..
e.g.
In order to export your 11g database and import it back to 9i, you will have to use the exp (export utility) and imp (import utility).
Since you are going from a higher version back to a lower version, this is what you need to do
1. Use the exp utility of the lower version (in your case, 9i) to export the 11g database
2. Use the lower version imp utility (in your case, 9i) to import into the 9i database
Imp/Exp utility version should always be similar to lower db version

Using old version iMovie and import from new camcorder

I got a new camcorder which won't let me import to the old version 4.0.1 Does anyone have any idea how to move the clips to the old version from the 7.1.4 version which is sooo infuriating. The old one was soooo simple to use as I don't need 90% of the NEWER features. I also miss being able to turn one frame into a photo.

As an iLife '08 owner you are also entitled to a free download of iMovie HD v6.0.4 if you want it.
Does anyone have any idea how to move the clips to the old version from the 7.1.4 version which is sooo infuriating.
You can open the named_Event folder containing the iMovie '08 imported clips and "drag 'n drop" them to an open previous version of iMovie or you can open the previous version of iMovie, select the "Import" option, navigate to the named_Event folder, select the file(s) you want, and import it/them to the older application.
I also miss being able to turn one frame into a photo.
JPEG images are automatically created in the named_Project folder any time a single frame is selected/added to an iMovie '08 project. They can also be created by QT Pro ($30) or MPEG Streamclip (free) directly from a source video clip.

Compressing and importing from Final Cut into Flash

Hi,
I am trying to import a short film into Flash to create a swf file which I want to use on the web.
I compressed the film to a smaller Quicktime film and imported it into Flash, worked fine, but I don't get any sound.I did mark the box import audio.
Any suggestions?

extract the audio from your original movie and attach it to your SWF
dunno too much about Flash, but you should try importing your audio and video as seperate assets
or forget flash - u could just put it up as a movie (QT,MP4,WMV(!).....) or create an animated gif (e.g. with fireworks) and attach the audio file to it......

Difference in filepath between "Import" and "Import from Inbox"

Our presystem is storing the FlatFiles directly in the Inbox of each location.
From the Inbox the user is then able to process the step of the import, validate and export. like that we want to force the user to upload trough the Inbox their files.
But some of the user try to use still the "normal" import way and choose one of the files on their local machine.
How can i stop that?
Is there as example in the Tool somewhere the filepath that indicates me where the file is coming from (so that i can stop the import process during the import) or is there any other change to solve it.
I found the RES. Function PstrFilename, but if i upload the file trough the inbox or trough my local machine, the PstrFilename is always telling me the INBOX path.

If you NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER want to see that upload option, then do the following:
NOTE : This was done for FDM 9.3.1, if you have a different version, this might vary slightly. Also, probably a warranty voider if you're concerned about things like that.
- Locate the file import.aspx on the fdm server.
- Make a backup of the file.

If you want to do something else that isn't quite as drastic, you could disable the upload button from working by altering it from :

You could also delete the onclick code, but you would also want to change the runat from server to client so that it doesn't post back to the server to do absolutely nothing. The codechange as shown above willl prevent the button from being rendered on the webpage by ASP.NET.
- You MAY need to restart the server/webservice as it could cache the previous version of the file and you'd want to clear that out.
I would probably just make the tab go away; however, if I wanted to keep the tab for something, I'd probably do something a little more U/I friendly than my above example :

Help! Importing from Macbook and mysterious numbers!

When I import video from my macbook pro that's longer than a min there is a weird number at the front of the film strip and the audio and visual are syncing up? It's never done this before and the footage without the numbers don't have the audio problem. The number varies from 18 to 27? I didn't film differently or change the fps? What's the deal?

PLEASE HELP! importing from illustrator

i made a drawing in adobe illustrator and have imported it as a .pict file to fcp. it looks great in the viewer when i double click it from the bin. but when i put it on the timeline, and double click it, it looks horrible - blurred, jagged and broken up - in both the viewer and the canvas. when i render it (green line,) it looks even worse.
i have also tried importing it as a jpeg, tiff, and targa, all having the same results.
the drawing had two layers in illustrator - the line art (in white) and the black fill behind it.
please tell me i am doing something wrong - and please tell me the right way to do it.
i spent 10 hrs on this drawing and i really want to use it in this project.
i have also tried opening it in photoshop to no avail.
if anyone would be willing to take a look at my file, maybe even import it onto your timeline and see what the problem is, i would GREATLY appreciate it.
i can email it to you immediately...i think it's about 3 mbs

the file consists of three layers: the white line drawing, which is what i want to use, a black matte behind it, and a still of a house, which i used for the trace.
it's in 16:9, the way i need it.
what i'm tring to do is have video of the house picture (not the pic in illustrator, but the footage i took the still from,) scale out into blackness and dissolve into the line art of the same house. i want the line art to be over black.

Need help on import from external drive!

I just imported several thousand pictures from an external drive into iphoto 08--unfortunately all photos are listed as one big event--I am now a little confused as to what to do next---I would like them to be imported in the original files (years) if possible...thanks for the help!

In iPhoto preferences (iPhoto menu ==> Preferences ==> events) under AutoSplit events you need to check "Imported items from finder" before you import
Probably the best thing to do *IF THE ONLY THING IN YOUR LIBRARY* is this import is to trash the iPhoto Library from your pictures folder, verify your preference settings and reimport
