Fcp 4.5 sequence to idvd

i've had trouble lately in trying to create a DVD from a FCP 4.5 sequence to idvd 4.
after exporting, first i do not get any sound and 2, it seems that only a small bit of the sequence keeps playing, over and over.
i have been exporting to quicktime, and have tried making movie both contained and also not checking make movie self-contained.
i've been saving to my firewire drive, and then dragging to idvd.
can anyone kindly tell me the proper procedure, the steps i should be taking?
as always, thanks kindly for your help and all the best

Hello,
Dragging files only makes video in the menu. To get movies that play as a DVD you must import a quicktime movie.
in iDVD (File-Import-Video)
in FCP (File- Export- Quicktime Movie)
In FCP ensure the following settings;
Setting - Current
Include - Audio and Video
Marker - Chapter Markers (if you used them!)
Hope It Helps,
Katie.

  • Can I export my FCP X project directly into iDVD?

I have not yet purchased FCP X, but before I do, I want to make sure that I can import my FCP X project directly into iDVD along with chapter markers.  Thank you for your help.

Yeah it's pretty straightforward- just a lot of export presets and you get a lot more than DVD making codecs. That said, if you want to just add chapters to a track you can always try something like this: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20060119212015646

  • FCP 7 lost sequence after exporting - auto save vault not working

I started a project a couple of days ago. Today I worked from 11.00 - 20.00 hrs. I exported at 20.00 hrs. to compressor (i got a self contained compressed .MOV file out of that pffff)
But then, returning to FCP 7, the sequence I exported (and worked on all day) was completely empty. Everything in the project folder is still there, but the cuts / edits in the main sequence i worked on are all gone.
Inside the Auto Save Vault are only four saves from between 11.00 - 11.30 hrs. (not properly every 5 min.) and one from 20.00 hrs. The one from 20.00 hrs. is a version that also has the empty sequence. The whole afternoon FCP 7 seems to have made no auto saves, even though i set the Auto Save Vault to "every 5 min." in the preferences. Auto Save Vault files (of this same project) from a couple of days earlier are all there inside the Auto Save Vault folder.
Tried already:  Looked inside the other two locations where i have autosave folders of other projects but the files were not there either.
Had a Tiff in the sequence, and a couple of very simple text-motion things.
Can anybody tell me whats going on?
And if there is a way to retrieve?
Never had this before, is this a FCP7 Yosemite issue?
    Thanks in advance!

could be a yosemite issue.  Hard to know.  fcp was never meant to work in Yosemite, so it's hit or miss.
Autosave misbehavior can happen and resetting your fcp preferences usually solves the problem.  Digital Rebellion makes a great utility to reset your preferences (and it's free).

  • Bad quality of a QT sequence for iDVD

    Hi,
I'd like to burn a DVD with a sequence edited in FCP. After exporting from FCP I drag and drop the sequence in my iDVD project, and when I want to preview the image quality is very bad. Looks like draft quality, square pixels...
When I check the sequence with QT player, no problem the resolution is good, it's only the preview in iDVD.
I've burned few DVD in the past and everything was fine.
Did I miss something in the FCP settings ?
    Thanx

    Hi guys,
here are the specs of the export you have to know that it's native DV)
    In FCP :
    file/export/qt seq
    settings : custom
    image size 720X405 (custom 16:9)
    pixels : PAL-CCIR 601 (720X576)
    field :even
    fps : 25
When I open the sequence with qt the image is correct, when Idrag the seq into iDVD, the preview shows me, as I said, kind of draft image with square pixels...

  • FCP 6 - getting Sequence to conform to clips

    FCP 6.0.6
imported a folder full of images into a brand new sequence.
    getting red in TL
manually conformed Sequence to "clips" (still images with dur of 2 secs)
Ive read that drag and drop (a clip to the sequence icon) in the browser or the TL should cause FCP to either ASK you or ALWAYS conform the sequence to the clip setting. For me this never seems to occur.
I just want to make a custom slideshow here, but everytime I drag my "clips" into the TL, I get red.
I changed every attribute I could in the sequence settings, but still get red in the TL over each still image/clip.
I never seem to get prompted as this software is advertised to be capable of.
    FCP 6.0.6
    What am I missing ?
    TIA
    Happy Holidazed

A still image is not a clip, nor does it conform to any of the codecs supported by FCP.

  • FCP 5 RT sequences now have to be rendered in FCP 6?

    Hi:
We upgraded from Final Cut Studio 1 to FCS 2 a week ago to upgrade Final Cut Pro to 6.0.4 to be able to read XDCAM EX clips a client sent us. That all worked fine.
But I'm encountering problems when I open older projects and sequences. Our main focus is motion graphics, which we create in After Effects, and we often render to the Animation codec for best quality. After rendering a composition we'll often go back and tweak something, then render out just those few seconds and edit the revision into the overall animation in FCP. This always worked fine in FCP 5.0 and earlier. I'd make a sequence with the same settings as the rendered Quicktimes (usually 720x480, D1 pixels, field dominance-none, Animation codec) and drop those into the sequence with no problems.
Today, however, I opened up a project and a Sequence I'd created using the Animation codec, and it showed a solid red bar for the whole 7 minute animation (except for two tiny slivers of blue at the fade up and fade out.) The canvas says Unrendered when I try to play it. This same sequence played fine in FCP 5 ten days ago.
I'm not attempting to print this to tape or anything. I just want to edit the pieces together to view the whole animation realtime and output a complete Quicktime for compressing to a DVD or whatever.
As a test I made a new sequence from scratch (720x480, D1 pixels, field dominance-none, Animation codec) and dropped a clip (720x480, D1 pixels, field dominance-none, Animation codec) into it and got the same result; the clip had to be rendered. I then went ahead and rendered the clip. I opened the resulting clip from the Render folder in Quicktime player, and it identified the clip as 720x480, Apple Animation Codec. So FCP compressed the clip to the same size and format it already was.
Older sequences using the Photo JPEG codec behave as normal; the sequence plays real time with no rendering required.
Was there some change in FCP 6 that prevents me from playing these Animation codec Quicktimes realtime? I'm not going to be happy if a bunch of old sequences suddenly become unplayable.
    Thanks.

Well, that is weird, but I don't seem to have that problem. I made a new sequence in FCP 6.0.4 with the above settings, added NTSC bars and exported a self-contained movie. I brought that QT back into FCP and added it back to the timeline from which it was generated, and it doesn't require rendering for playback, displaying a dark grey bar.
As I said, my main problem seems to be opening FCP 5 projects in FCP 6, though there are some minor problems with sequences created from scratch in FCP 6. In FCP 6 I reassembled the simple edit I'd done in FCP 5 and added fades at the beginning and end, which had to be rendered; the rest of the sequence showed the dark grey bar. When I scrub the timeline it scrubs very smoothly except at the beginning and end where those rendered fades are. And then, even though those fades have been rendered, when my playback gets to that fadeout it stops and gives the "One or more frames were dropped during playback" error message. I've tried the renders on two different drives, both of which are plenty fast to handle the 20-30 MB/sec data rate.
    Annoying.
Is it safe to upgrade to FCP 6.0.5?

  • Export FCP movie for burning in iDVD

I created a 30 minute movie in Final cut pro. When I exported the file, it was 25 gig. I want to burn the movie to DVD in Imovie and obviously it was a smidge large.. What are the best and most effective settings in FCP to do this. I am new to FCP so any help is greatly appreciated.

It doesn't matter how large the file is.
Drop it into iDVD and iDVD should compress it to a suitable size for a DVD.
The only measurement that matters is the length as iDVD cannot deal with projects longer than around 2 hours.

  • FCP not reading sequence which is present in project file

This problem started after rebooting, after Apple Software Update interrupted editing to update Quicktime.
My main sequence fails to appear in the bins and the timeline.
It does appear to be present in the project file when viewed with TextEdit.
Earlier versions from the autosave vault have the same problem.
Resetting the P-RAM has not fixed the problem.
What could possibly cause FCP to not read the sequence even in the auto saved versions ?
Where can I find a guide to how-to read FCP project files so I can fix this by hand if necessary ?
    Help would be much appreciated.
    Nick

Final update (and thanks to Patrick) on how I salvaged as much as possible:
    1) found the last uncorrupted autosave (a week before the problem showed itself)
    2) exported the missing sequence as XML
    3) went to the most recent version of the project
    4) exported that version of the project to XML
    5) started a new project
    6) imported the XML files of the missing sequence and the rest of the project
By converting to XML the corrupted parts of the file are excluded, and I recovered all the uncorrupted data.
Result I got back about 2/3 of what was lost.
    Moral of the story:
    # FCP will continue running indefinitely from a corrupted project file.
    # What you save will also be corrupted.
    # The corruption is only evident if you restart FCP.
If you ever need to recover a corrupted file:
XML is a human readable, documented, open standard,
.fcp is a closed binary format with no documentation available to the end user.
Consequently you cannot read or repair a corrupted .fcp file.
It may be worth using XML for backups instead of .fcp .
    *Finally
Restart FCP daily - that way you won't loose more than a day's work.*
    Thanks all
    Nick

  • My markers/chapters created in FCP cause multiplexer error in iDVD

After two days of trying to figure out what causes this multiplexer error in iDVD - I have deduced that it is chapter markers in FCP. I can burn projects from quicktimes exported from FCP without chapters, but cannot burn ones with chapters.
Obviously I'd like chapters - has anyone run into this before and found any solutions?
    Thanks.
Also, how do we let Apple know of these bugs so that they can fix them?

I regularly export from FCP to iDVD with chapter markers with no issues. Make sure you don't have a chapter marker too close to the beginning of the project; make sure the markers aren't too close together (like more than one second). I've heard of chapter marker issues if they are right on transitions tho I've never had that problem. Make sure nothing is selected in your timeline before you export
Obviously you want to export as Quicktime Movie, not Quicktime Conversion. Make sure you have iDVD set up to recognize chapter markers; sorry if these are obvious, just trying to think of everything.
Also, don't forget to mixdown your audio before exporting

  • FCP Chapter Marker Limit for iDVD (muxing error)?

I'm attempting to create disc images in iDVD 7.0.3 for a 2 DVD set created in FCP 4.5. I've exported QT movies with chapter markers for both of my Disc A and Disc B projects. Disc A (1 hr 56 min and 16 chapters) writes just fine to disc image but Disc B (1 hr 40 min and 32 chapters) has given me fits for days, continually leading to "Muxing preparation (project conversion) error". I've tried a number of attempts at fixes per the forums to no avail (checking the placement of my chapter markers, avoiding special characters in marker names, etc.) I've even tried killing the "Scene Selection" menu. Is there a chapter marker limit in iDVD then? Have I really exceeded this with 32? I ask this for my latest test this morning in which I split the Disc B project into two (evenly splitting the content as well as # of chapters between test B-1 and B-2 projects) led to successful creation of disc images for both. However, I want to put the two back together again. Please help. Thank you.

Yes, I've heard that you should have either 15GB or 25GB free on your internal boot drive. I have 17GB available. Incidentally, my iDVD project files and disc images are being written to other drives attached to my system. I don't think this is the issue though since I've been operating in this environment for some time and have mastered a 2-DVD set a couple of months ago (2 hours on each disc) with no issues. I have even created another disc image of my 2 hour Disc A (to fix some editorial changes) with no issues. It's when it comes time to burn a DVD or write a disc image of my Disc B when it becomes an issue. Specifically, did you get the "there was an error during muxing preparation project conversion" error message then? Thanks.

  • FCP to Color sequence clips do not match up.

    Hello,
I edited my video with multiclips and sending from FCP to Color. Problem I have is the video from my FCP sequence is not what is coming out in Color, in fact it's way off. Can't figure out what I am doing wrong, and Color manual does not have any trouble shooting instructions in it's manual. Please help.
    Thanks

There are known issues that affect sequences containing multiclips.

Since this particular issue has been discussed here before, it would be wise to take a look at what has already been posted.

  • Action footage edited in FCP Express is choppy in iDVD 6.0.3

    Hello...
I have edited action footage (featuring football) in Final Cut Express and the exported it as a .mov file. When I played the .mov file from Quicktime, it plays great. But, when I imported my movie into iDVD, burned it to a DVD+R, and watched it on a regular DVD player, the action footage was very choppy. Sometimes there were "ghost trails" behind the football players' running shots, and at certain parts the movement seemed sped up and almost like a "cartoony speed" - if that makes any sense.
So, I tried a few more times with the same bad results
Does anyone know how to go about fixing this problem? Thank you so much in advance for your feedback!
    ...Rae

    Rae,
Your problem may just be the result of MPG-2 compression artifacts. Rather than making your 'burn' from iDVD to writable media, 'burn' to a disk image file (an option under File in iDVD). This will create a version of your final DVD on your desktop. Use Apple's DVD Player application to play the image file on your computer. If you still see the ghosting/choppy playback then you have a content problem. If the disk image plays with no problems, then you had a problem writing the digital data to the writable DVD media that led to a lot of burn errors. Use Apple's Disk Utility to burn the image to writable media. See Burning a disk image file on a CD or DVD in Mac OS X at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93006
Using good quality media (Verbatim or Maxell) and make the burn at 4x or slower. Disk Utility allows you to adjust the burn rate, while iDVD doesn't.

  • 16:9 DV sequence in iDVD shows up as 4:3 - Apple's workaround =Quality loss

    Hey guys,
Capturing and editing anamaphoric 16:9 from a DV Camera in Final Cut Express, then exporting using Quicktime (not conversion) gives a file that iDVD does not see as 16:9 but squeezes it to 4:3. After esearching this quite extensivly, Apple's workaround is to do the following:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1611
Which works fantastic but my simple question is... because I now have to use Quicktime conversion (as stated in the link above) does my quality of the video suffer at all?
    Any help greatly appreciated,
    Jazzy

To be honest I didn't try it yet, but at a first look the procedure described in your link doesn't seem to degrade the movie quality. In fact, even if you use QuickTime Conversion, that procedure simply uses the same codec as FCE (DV/DVCPRO-NTSC or DV-PAL); the Aspect Ratio and Dimensions parameters should only affect the "presentation" of the movie, not its intrinsic resolution, which should remain untouched (720x480 or 720x576). Then its effect should be the same as changing the Scaled Size in the Visual Settings of the property window in QT Player (but only if you have QT Pro), which does not touch the video encoding but only the way it is displayed.
But other posters might know more about this...

  • FCP 6 export widescreen SD - iDVD 7 widescreen plays 4:3

Exporting DV anamorphic, plays in QT as widescreen, iDVD menu is widescreen, BUT the exported video plays 4:3.

    Hello Todd,
apparently the anamorphic flag got lost somewhere, or is just not seen by iDVD. You can try to trash iDVD preferences, repair permissions, make a new iDVD project ... if that doesn't help you can try to re-install iDVD.
I personally would simply make a disk image, then fix the error with myDVDedit (http://www.mydvdedit.com/). I know this may sound stupid but you'll need to correct the DVD anyways, since iDVD always outputs as "16x9 pan-scan & letterbox".
    hope this helps
