FCP 5.1 Won't export reference file

Im working on FCP 5.1 and Im trying to export a 2:33 minute project. I want to export as a reference file before I put it into compressor. But for some reason its not working. I turned off the "self contained" movie file in the settings, but for some reason its still exporting as a full movie.
Why would this happen?

What makes you think that it isn't a reference movie, but rather a full quality one? Did you take the media drive offline, THEN try opening it? that would be the way to test.
Did you render before you exported? If not, then the exported REF movie will be larger, as it contains the new renders.

  • New Quicktime 7.6.6 (1671) won't export WAV files

HELP! - New Quicktime 7.6.6 (1671) won't export WAV files. I just did the automatic upgrade to the new version of Quicktime and now I can't export WAV files from a CAF file. The original .CAF file plays perfectly but when I attempt to export it the exported file is corrupted and won't play. I have another computer with the previous version of Quicktime and it exports the same file flawlessly. Anyone know what's going on with the new version? THANKS!

+Error writing to the file: C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesMiniPlayer.Resources\nb.lproj\iTunesMiniPlayerLocalized.dll. Verify that you have access to that directory.+
More often than not, that sort of message indicates file damage rather than a privileges issue on the file.
If you've got Windows XP, try doing a chkdsk over your C drive, as per:
How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
If you've got Vista, try the following procedure. Go "Start > Computer". Right-click on "Local Disk C:" and select "properties". Click the "Tools" tab. Click the "Check now" button in the "Error correction" section.
Do the disk checks find/repair any damage? If so, does an install go through properly afterwards?

  • Problem with exporting Reference file to iDVD

When I export a 16:9 clip as a reference file (or self contained) using Quick Time Movie, it appears as 4:3. If I use QT conversion option, it exports OK as 16:9. As I need to use chapter markers I therefore wish to use the QTM option but require it as 16:9. Any clues as to what I am doing wrong? Thanks

  • LR 2.5 won't export TIFF files with LZW or ZIP compression??

I've just updated to LR2.5 and CR5.5, I'm using Vista Ultimate x64 on an AMD x2 64 bit pc.
LR worked fine until 2.4 came along and hijacked all my auto play settings. Adobe finally releases 2.5 and now I find if I export TIFF files from a Nikon D700 NEF all I get is a black box the same size as the image??? If I turn LZW or ZIP compression off and export uncompressed the export works again. JPEG also exports ok.
Anyone else getting this? Have you found out what's causing it?
    James.

    Thanks for the feedback Jao,
I just tried across the whole range of TIFF options and the only files that don't give me a black file are 8bit and 16 bit with no compression. LZW and ZIP both stuff up
Might try a complete uninstall and reinstall to see if that fixes things. These sorts of things only happen when you are in a rush to get lots of work done!

  • FCP 10.2 won't export to Youtube, won't export a Master File

This problem started before I updated FCP last night, but I try the direct share to Youtube option, and where normally after a few hours its done, this time it says 'upload successful' but no video shows up in my channel's video manager.
When I tried it again, it failed with the error code (-60), so I decided to go a different route and process a master file, then manually upload it.
Still no joy. I have videos that are now two days late for the channel schedule, if anyone else is having this problem and fixed it, please share your technique!

I forgot to update that OS setting in my profile, that's my bad.
I set a video to direct upload to youtube, it goes through the usual process, I get a notification that the upload was successful, but still the video doesn't appear on youtube, not even processing. It's been a day since this problem, whatever it is, started happening.
I didn't change any settings from before and this was all perfectly functional on Saturday 11th, I first noticed it on Sunday night, and then it persisted all day Monday.
So the alternate approach, usually, is to create a master file - which now fails and gives me the error message (-60)
I can't think of a reason for this to be happening.
EDIT: Just tried outputting a different, much shorted clip as a master file and it worked fine. This just deepens the confusion.

  • FCP 4 HD won´t import mov files

    Hi,
I exported a clip with the QT conversion option and added a few of the menu´s special effects (lens flare, sepia, etc.). The file opens all right with QT, but when I try to import it to FCP, I get an error message. This also happens if I try to open the file from my desktop using the "Open with..." option and select FCP.
I had no problem importing the file to iMovie, so I am really puzzled about this...

File error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown
I get that message. I wanted to know if you found a solution. I am using Final Cut 4.5
I just started getting error messages whenever I try to import a file. Whatever file I choose gets a window that says:
"File error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown"
Never had a problem with Final Cut before. I'm baffled. Please help. I already tried trashing the preferences.
I am not able to import any type of file at all. Quick time movies, audio, livetype, etc. I have been able to import all these files for several months. Now for no apparent reason I am unable to import files.
I have looked at different discussions of this same problem. There seems to be an access problem. The files are valid. They will open with Quicktime. They will import into iMovie.
So the problem seems to be that FCP cannot access the files.
    Anyone know the solution?

  • Quicktime won't export my file without a watermark

I am trying to convert a wmv file into swf. I have flash and the flash video utility. But I can't bring a wmv file into flash; it has to be converted to something else first. I upgraded to Quicktime Pro today in order to do this part of it, but when I try to export it to a .mov file, I get a message from a completely different program saying I have to purchase the 'flip4mac player' before Quicktime will export without the watermark. Does quicktime not open wmv files? Why is this other program getting involved?
thanks for any help. I hate to have to buy two programs just to do a conversion.

You must purchase one of the upgrades to export to WMP formats. Right now you're using the "trial" version of the third party component.

  • Speedgrade won't export a file, and hangs.

    Hi,
I am just working on my first project in Speedgrade (a music video), which I edited in Premiere Pro and then sent to SpeedGrade. I can't play back in realtime, so I thought to export a low-res preview, however the app claims 100% rendered, though both the pause and stop buttons are still available, and if I try to use them, or quit, I just get a non-responsive pinwheel. And, of course, no rendered file has been created.
I am using a 2.3 GHz Quad i7 MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM, and 10.8.3.
Though I do like how the tools are manipulating the image, I have suffered a lot of issues with the app. Firstly, I can't get it to use a second (external) display, which makes work rather cramped. This cramped issue is enhanced by the fact that Tab is not hiding any of the pallettes, so I am stuck with a small 4" preview. I can't play back in-app, more than a few frames at a time. I can't seem to delete a new track-layer. And finally, yea, I can't export nor quit.
I tried deleting the User_Settings.xml, as that appears to be the only preference document, but this had no effect whatsoever.
Any thoughts? I assume that the app does function for most people.
    Cheers,
    T

    Hi Bart,
    you nailed it.
The 2nd monitor thing was diabolically difficult. I was so surprised to find that SG is not a new package, but simply something which has been developed - it would appear - in the dark. Though its image processing is very good, the difference in the way that it is written as compared to other Adobe components, is embarrassing. The second monitor thing is automatic, as far as I can tell, in both Prelude and Premiere. At least I didnt have to set anything up, it just happened. Whereas this took over a week for me to figure out, and only because you explained it.
And the export also is confusing. Simply by changing it to one of the presets of ProRes, I got an exported file.
The workflow is still infinitely better than working purely in Final Cut Express - the way I have been working for the past 5 years. Much more intuitive for a 'native' photoshop person.
    Thanks,
    T

  • Illustrator Won't Export Large File

Hi, using Illustrator CS. My Illustrator document size is 10,000 x 1920 pixels. I need to export from Illustrator at this size at 72 dpi but Illustrator says:
“Could not Export. Rasterized Image Exceeds Maximum Bounds for Save for Web"
I tried using “Export" and "Save for Web” but I get the same answer.
Can someone using CS 5 open a new document 10,000 x 1920 pixels and try to export it at 72 dpi and tell me if it works? Thanks.

Yep. The screen shot below is an artboard of the size you indicated exported at 150 dpi (hence the larger dims).
    Take care, Mike

  • IPhoto '08 won't export pics

iPhoto '08 won't export any files. I've tried jpegs and tiffs and iPhoto 08 just hangs during export - I've had to "force quit" it - any ideas? I've tried exporting just one pic and let it run for close to 5 minutes before giving up.

Try rebuilding the database. Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys and launch iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
If that doesn't work try trash the com.apple.iphoto.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder.

  • Export DPX files from FCP with Timecode

    Hi,
Have anyone found a way to export DPX files from FCP, and also get the timecode in the DPX header...
    Thanks for answers!!
    //P

    Your workflow is not correct.
In FCP I bring the clip to the timeline, trim, color correct it then File> Export> Using Compressor. Compressor opens up and places the clip into the Batch Window. This works fine, but when I go back to FCP, delete the clip from the timeline and place an other clip there and when I Export>Using Compressor, Compressor places the clip in a new Window title "Untitle 1" and so it goes on. As far as I understood, whenever you add a clip from the FCP it places it below the first clip so when I want to add my settings, I can add all 3 settings to all the clips. Did I missunderstand something?
You're misunderstanding a couple of different things. When you send a clip or sequence from FCP to Compressor, you cannot then apply the settings you want in Compressor then go back to FCP and delete that clip from your sequence ... Compressor is trying to reference that sequence. If you keep removing clips, then Compressor won't follow those clips ... you're essentially breaking the link between Compressor and FCP by doing this.
    Try this:
    1. Load Clip A into the Viewer, Set your In & Out points and add your Color Correction.
    2. Press Command U to Make a Subclip. This will create a separate "clip" in your bin. Rename as necessary.
    3. Repeat this process for your other 19 clips.
    4. Then Select all of your new subclips in your Browser, then File > Export > Using Compressor. This will open Compressor and add all of those subclips into the Job window.
    5. Add your appropriate Target settings and set your Destinations and revise any filenames if necessary.
    6. Click Submit.

  • Fcp won't import motion files

I've seen posts related to this elsewhere, but no answers, so here's my boggle:
For a long time I enjoyed great interraction between fcp and motion. I used motn files in the fcp timeline, exported to motion, etc. All with no problems. I'm not a daily user of either, so it's tough to pinpoint a date or update that caused the problem.
One day .motn files stopped being importable.
Dragging into the bin gives me: "File Error: Unknown File"
Using Apple-I doesn't work because the motion files are grayed out.
Same deal if I'm trying to reconnect to .motn files - grayed out.
To frustrate issues further, other G5s in the office don't have a problem.
I've tried deleting FCP from the applications folder, as well as anything that says FCP in Library \Application Support, as well as any references to motion. I've done this twice and reinstalled, but the problem won't go away.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm at my wit's end. How do I fully uninstall FCP Studio? Is it something deeper? Is this going to take a format? Help Please.
G5 Dual 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   3GB Ram, Plenty of Disk Space

If this problem has suddenly occurred usually it requires reinstalling Motion.

  • FCP 6 won't export QT as "self-contained"

I'm trying to export some files as QT's, but even though the "make movie self-contained" box IS checked, they still won't play without opening FCP. I did change playback preferences from FCP to QT, which works on the source computer... but when I move the files to another computer, they still won't play. Any thoughts?

I think we are getting confused with what you want to do here... if all you want to do is open the file up inside QuickTime simply right click or control click - Open With > QuickTime Pro.
This will not open in Final Cut Pro. Also, you never told use what codec you were working in.
Know this - Self Contained has nothing to do with which application opens the movie file. This function determines how the file will be created. By default, a movie file created by Final Cut Pro will try and open with Final Cut Pro. You can change this with the "Get Info" switch, then select QuickTime Pro as the default player.
    Hope this helps,

  • Can you export a Quick Time REFERENCE file from Final Cut Pro X?

Used to be in FCP-7, you could export your timeline and at the bottom of the Export dialog box, there was a check box where you could check "Make the movie self-contained," which would export a full Quick Time .mov file, or you could UNCHECK that box and FCP would export a Quick Time REFERENCE file (referencing the source media used within the timeline), which you could then bring in to any one of a number of different encoding apps.
I prefer to use Sorenson Squeeze to do my encoding, as it's much, much faster than Compressor and has infinitely more format options (Flash, Windows Media, Real, etc., etc.).
But now, I don't see a way to export a Quick Time Reference file from the Final Cut Pro timeline, er, uh, storyline, er, uh, project.
Anybody know if there's a way to export a Quick Time REFERENCE file (not a full Quick Time .mov)?

    R&B wrote:

I do the same thing with Final Cut Express, actually.  Only I then open the reference file up in QuickTime Pro and re-export it to an h.264 mp4.  I can do that multiple times in the background vs. getting caught up in Final Cut's pathetically non-threaded user interface when it's saving/exporting.
I was going to ask the exact same question here, but you beat me to it.  And so far it sounds like the answer is "no" ... :-(

  • FCP 7 issue with exporting reference movie?

I've used FCP 6 to export reference movies -- no problem.  Now, using FCP 7.0.3 , I can't seem to export a reference movie period.  On old projects, where I've done reference movies, no luck.  On newer ones created in FCP 7, I render everything -- I mean everything, no luck.  The 'not self-contained box' is unchecked.  I even tried making a brand new project, importing a 10 second clip requiring no rendering.  FCP still won't  export a reference movie; it keeps making a regular movie clip.  I really need this function to make DVDs.  Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

First, let me correct myself regarding the QT reference movie.  My movies show a poster frame rather than a preview as I mentioned in my previous post.
It's important that all of the items from the Sequence menu are checked.
