FCP 5 and Graphics Cards
Have just installed FCP studio and FCP 5 will not start up. I get a Kern Protection Failure in the report. Was wondering if the the graphics card is the problem. Have a Dual 2.0 G5 with a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Card. Will I need to upgrade the video card or is it something else?
Would other apps be affected with bad RAM? DVD Studio Pro, Motion etc are
all working fine.
Not necessarily - FCP may be placing higher demands on the RAM than the other apps...
That said, given your description, I'd be inclined to lean toward bad OS install.

FCP, Leopard and graphics card combo won't launch
After upgrading to Leopard when I run FCP I get a
"Final Cut Pro requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card"
I am running 10.5.1 on a 2x 2.66 Dual core Mac Pro, my graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT
FCP 6.0.2 with all Pro App updates
Before I start poking around in the .plist file to try and fake it out, is anyone else seeing this?Well, that is not how I read it. The 7300 GT is even listed under Motion as acceptable. A 7800 is recommended under the Motion specific area, but not under Final Cut.
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs.html
Oddly enough, I think it may be my Cinema Display (older 20") which does not support it, or the ADC-DVI conversion in line... as that was also swapped in when I upgraded. I will try my other monitor where it was working fine.
I just find it hard to believe that a 256mB PCIex16 card purchased in 2006 in an Intel MacPro won't support Final Cut. I mean, my old G4 Powerbook with a 128MB ATI card does and it is at least 4 years old. -
The Crew –Racing with Your Coolest MSI Gaming Motherboard and Graphics Card
Most gaming fans are crazy about racing games, and there is a new game title just launched to fulfill gamers’ dream. We want to share with you the experience from Taiwan user who assembles a rig with a brand new MSI Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard and 960 graphics card, along with a hardware and game (The Crew) benchmarks. You may find the original article from:
https://forum-tc.msi.com/index.php?topic=113352.0
The Crew - Launch Trailer
PC configuration:
CPU: Intel i5-4670K
RAM: Avexir DDR3-1600 8G*2
VGA: MSI GTX960 GAMING 2G
SSD: Kingston HyberX 3K SSD 240G
CPU Cooler: SilverStone AR01
The MSI Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard box
Overview of the motherboard: Black and Red color scheme, it’s also the favorite color combination from MSI’s user reservation.
The PCI-E slots and bandwidth are enough for a two-way SLI setting.
Killer Ethernet, outstanding performance on internet access, especially reduce the lag issue.

New cooling design: ZeroFrozr

With MSI Gaming series motherboard plus graphics card, you can enable a Gaming App to overclock CPU and GPU. There are 3 modes to choose.
6-month free trail of the XSplit game caster software, free bundled with MSI gaming motherboard and graphics card
Done with assembling, quiet nice color combination and clean cable arrangement.
An overview of the very gaming look system.
Some benchmark results before racing with The Crew.
CPU and GPU info on CPU-Z and GPU-Z applications:
3DMark Fire Strike score: 6441
3DMark Fire Strike Extreme score: 3384
3DMark Fire Strike Ultra score:1262
The excel performance proof the brand new 960 graphics card comes with good a high Cost/Performance Value.
Now, check out this test benchmark score of the renowned game “The Crew”.
The game presents an ultra-quality display, 60 Frames Per Second (FPS)
FPS: Average frames is at:
Frames: 3859 - Time: 76828ms - Avg: 50.229 - Min: 43 - Max: 56
The comments of the game for your reference:
There are many types of missions that can be chosen from the America’s map.
Street racing, high-speed collision, breakaway from police, sky jumps, zigzagging, etc… make the game quite dynamic.
Now, when it comes to multi-player matches, the performance has exceeded expectations. Perhaps, it is the killer Ethernet that’s working the magic. Thus, this game is highly recommended if you have the right rig.
The downside is that the display intricacy is not as refined as GTA V and in addition, the game FPS is limited at 60 FPS. However, the overall gaming flow and performance is better than good.
The user's comment for using MSI Gaming 5 motherboard and 960 graphics card:
(The following commends are translated from user’s article, does not represent the viewpoint of MSI) ^^
Recently, MSI GTX 960 just launched so the initial price tag is still adjustable.
According to the current product line, it seems like this GPU is going to replace 750Ti. So once all the stocks (750Ti) at the store empties, we are most likely to see a price drop on GTX960.
Once the price hits the sweet spot, it’s time to try out GTX960 SLI’s performance.
The CP value on MSI GTX960 and GAMING 5 MB is pretty high. But the XSplit software that comes with the product is a bit annoying since the authentication steps are divided into 2 parts to go through for using it.
Enough said, anyways, GAME ON!NVIDIA 960 card + GAMING 5 motherboard = best bundle for budget gaming!
it would be nice to see more testing of hardware-demanding games! -
Processor and graphics card upgrade for hp dc5100 MT(EF633US)
Can someone kindly tell me a variety of Intel processors and graphic cards which i can install in my pc coz right now i'm using Intel pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz and Intel 82915G/GV/910GL express chipset. but i would like to upgrade to a faster processor and a graphics card which can play games which require large graphic memory (eg FIFA 2013,GTA 5.etc)
Hi:
Personally, I wouldn't invest the money to upgrade that PC.
You would be better off getting an off lease newer dc5800 MT or dc7800/dc7900 model that has a PCIe x16 video slot.
The killer for your model is you can only install a PCI graphics card.
Very inefficient and pretty expensive for what you get in return.
After you install the required microcode update, the best processor I know for sure you can install would be the P4 650.
Below is the link to the quickspecs. The supported processors are listed on page 7.
I do not know of anyone who that has installed the 651 or 661 processors and got them to work--even though the specs state they are supported.
You can try the 651 or 661 and if you do, please let me know if they worked for you.

Want to add Video and Graphic Card to my computer system
I Notice that one of the users' in the Apple discussion Board is Listed, (AndyO) he has help me many times in the Past and was succesful in my problrm solution, would he might be able to help me with this?
I had Purchased the Game Spore Creature Creator the Starter Kit which is just the Creature creator game and not the actual game itself. I wasn't able to install the the game on my computer because I don't have the right or not at all Video and Graphic Card install on my computer. I had Contacted the Company "EA" that puts out the Game Spore, this is what they said what the game requirements are: The minimum system requirements for Spore and Spore the Galactic Edition for Mac are as follows:
* Mac OS X 10.5.3 Leopard or higher
* Intel Core Duo Processor
* 1024 MB RAM
* At least 345 MB of hard drive space for installation, plus additional space for created creatures. (260 MB for the Trial Edition)
* Video Card - ATI X1600 or NVidia 7300 GT with 128 MB of Video RAM, or Intel Integrated GMA X3100
This game will not run on PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) based Mac systems (PowerMac).
For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires at least: an Intel Integrated Chipset GMA X3100 or Dual 2.0GHz CPUs, or 1.7GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
Supported Video Cards
ATI Radeon(TM) series
* X1600, X1900, HD 2400, HD 2600
NVIDIA GeForce series
* 7300, 7600, 8600, 8800
Intel(R) Extreme Graphics
* GMA X3100
and that I need to upgrade my system. Basically I need; ATI Radeon 1600 or NVIDIA Geforce 7300 and a INTEL Extreme Graphic Video Card-GMA X3100, in order to be able to install and play this game. Since I already have this game, I would like to be able to upgrade my computer system which brings me to ask; does somone know or refer me to a web site that has and sells these Video and Graphic Card and supports for the Mini Mac?
Plus they say that I need a 1020 of MB of Ram, I Have already found that 1024 MB of Ram but I just need those Video and Graphic Cards for my computer system. I am adding my computer system Profile to my discussion board to show you what I have on my system, would you be able to tell me if I would be able to add these Video and Graphic card and the memory or Ram 1024 to my computer system?
Note: Here is a web site that I am looking at to add the 1024 MB of Ram to my computer system:

Can someone Please help me with any suggestions or otherwisde I will have to go to a Apple store and ask for help there.
Thank You,
Trisha Foster
<Edited by Moderator>Hi Trisha,
The only modern Mac's with video cards are the Mac Pro and Xserve (server) systems. They both are priced quite a bit higher than any Mac Mini.
Some systems, like the Mac Book Pro laptop can be ordered with different graphics cards, but that has be done when the system is built, as it is not replaceable once the system is built. To find out which systems, go to store.apple.com. For each system that you select, you can see if there's an option for a better video card.
David -
my computer has been getting either blue screen of death, or your machine has been turned off to save your computer or pixels jumping around across screen, so on white screen was getting streaks of blue from top to bottom and on black streaks of red dancing about, OR no screen at all - blank.
Now machine won't even boot up. This all happened both on cable and wireless. Product no VJ667EA # TX2 Touchsmart 1340ea.
There have been no upgrades of hardware , and on software front only thing is regular updates of windows. It was running Windows 7 64 bit professional.
It is now totally dead. If you try to boot up you get the electric symbol light up, and caps lock and end /number lock light up and flash... thats it.
We just tried to blow out dust that is all. I have a nasty feeling HP doesn't want to sell any parts and only bothered about selling folks like me a new machine which I am not going to buy. This one didn't last more than 18 months, just long enough to be out of guarantee. Here's hoping I am wrong and there are replacement motherboards and graphics cards (itYou're very welcome.
What seems to be unfair is I can buy that motherboard directly from HP in the USA as you saw, but for whatever reason you can't buy it directly from HP in the UK.
I still think you would be better off checking out what related notebooks may be for sale out there on eBay UK.
I buy all my PC's on eBay in used condition for great bargains. I do limit myself to the business PC's and notebooks that HP makes, however.
Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

Can I upgrade my processor and graphics card in my HP Pavilion g6-2244sa Notebook PC?
Hi I bought this laptop 2 years ago for gaming purposes and school work. I was told by the shop assistant that it can run most fo your big games such as Call Of Duty and FIFA. Well frankly i was lied to and this laptop struggles to even play the simplest game Minecraft a game about pixelated blocks that you destroy and place and this can't even run it I am very annoyed about this and seeing if i can upgrade the machine never crossed my mind until now. So i am asking to see if it would be possible to upgrade the Hardware of this machine mainly the processor and graphics card, here are the specs of my laptop:
Processor- AMD E2-1800 APU w/ Radeon HD graphics (2CPUs) (1.80)GHz
Graphics Card - AMD Radeon HD 7340G
RAM - 8Gb
Memory - 1Tb
Now I am wondering if this machine's processor and graphic's card can be upgraded and if so what would be the price of it and where would be the best place and if the cost is too much would i be better off buying a new machine?
If you need more specs reply with the ones you need and i'll get them for you thank you for the help!joshua_2020 wrote:

Put this way if that system isn't costing you 2,000US or more then it will not play Call Of Duty and FIFA regardless of what the store sales person says. To play those games your laptop has to fall into the catgory called "Gaming Laptop" Specs and those come with cost and weight to show for it. Your laptop is only good at low games resolution and will not handle graphics intensive games. Those requires Gaming Laptop specs those cost money to be had. So if you still want to Game COD style you need to put down the cash for serious Game Laptop to perform under pressure. Forget about upgrading your current system what you want is a Serious Gaming Laptop if your going to play COD.

What temperatures are acceptable for the CPU and Graphics card?
I have Intel Xeon X5400 series CPUs and a Nvidia graphics card.
It is interesting to monitor the temperatures but only if you know what temps matter...
What temperatures are acceptable for the CPU and Graphics card?
I was not sure if this is the document of choice for the CPU or not. I was not sure I was decifering it correctly either.

Any one know what we should be watching for as far as what is too hot?
I have a ThinkStation D10.
Did not see this in the user manual but could have missed it.I found my specs:
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5405 @ 2.00GHz
You are correct. An E series.
I was so focused on the upgrade to the X5420 that I forgot what the system came with.
So what should I set my sensor high value to on my sensor program that shows up on the panel (taskbar)?
For the E5405 or the X5420?
SIDE NOTE: where can I get 2 E5420s or better cheap?
Not ready to give up my filters just yet. I live in a dust factory!
My girl friend sews really nice bags but creates sewing dust and fuzz.
And well there are natural fibers everywhere...
So other than the the X5492 (150watts), the X5482, X5472, X5470, X5460, X5450 are all 120 watts.
Like the bulk of the X series...
The E5405, E5410, E5450, E5440, E5420, E5430, E5470, E5462, E5472 are all 80 watts.
The L series seems to all be 50 Watts.
For many the other Processors see this:

wifi driver and graphics card driver not found, drivers avilable on site says incompatiable .
Hi:
The parts list for your notebook indicates that it has a Realtek RT8723BE 802.11bgn 1x1 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 combination adapter.
These would be the W8.1 drivers you need for that card...

Bluetooth:

See if the Intel graphics driver directly from Intel works...

Then install the nvidia hd graphics driver. -
What is maximum temperature for hard disk and graphics card?
After an hour of running mac, it gets so slow that after a while, i have no choice but to switch off with power key (pressed for 10 secs or so).
I downloaded temperature monitor gadget and I am noticing harddisk and graphics card temperature going high from 84 F to 130+ F
Is there any specifications on temperature range for different devices of iMac 24, 2007 model?psachania wrote:

Apple does not provide this information. Though the hard drive details can be looked up at the manufacture website. Most consumer grade drives have a maximum operating temperature of 60C. Though heat can play into lifespan of the drive so I would not want the drive running anywhere near that for extended periods. My advice is to keep the hard drive under 50C.
What applications you are running? How much RAM do you have? and how much free space is left on your hard drive?

Recommend compatible PSU and graphics card for P35D3?
Recommend compatible PSU and graphics card for P35D3?
This weekend I’ll be taking my rig to a PC repair shop and ask them to swap out my PSU and my graphics card.
Because I’ve RMA’d all the components (see signature) several members of different forums, and the tech support of the various components, seem to think that my boot problem is because of a compatibility issue with either my Ultra X3 600W PSU or my XFX 8600 GT and my P35D3.
I need to be ready to make decision, without having time to research, if the repair tech recommends a replacement.
Here’s my considerations:
I selected the Ultra because it's both modular and 85% efficient (it also has the required 8-pin cable to power the P35D3's CPU and it has SATA power cables.
I selected the XFX 8600 GT card because it is dual-link (2 DVI outs -- Dell 30” & Viewsonic 19”) and it has no fan, and is DX10 ready. I’m not attached to the idea of no fan. I’m a speed freak but not a gamer or an over clocker--I like the option of trying out games.
Both the Ultra and the XFX are somewhat medium priced.
If the repair tech discovers that other PSUs or graphic cards work then I might be able to get Ultra or XFX to accept a return. Neither company accepted my offer to pay extra to exchange mine for another better model.
Suggestions please.
Thank you,
KerryThanks Boss,

About VGA any should work, you can see MSI Test Report for your board here:

lots of good info.
Wish me luck today (Thu), that the tech finds out my XFX or Ultra is not compatible.

FCP 7 Multiple Graphics Cards & 3 Displays
With FCP 7 (Studio 3) has Apple fixed the issue that you can't have multiple graphics cards and more than 2 displays as was the problem with prior versions?
I did the typical; post a question then play around with the problem routine here.
I've found a solution where i put the "playout monitor" on the same card as screen 1. move screen 2 to another card and make the relevant adjustments to the displays arrangement panel so everything is the same layout as before. FCP now plays out to the correct monitor it seems it can't handle sending to other cards.

Paying monthly for a mac help and graphics card query
So i'm thinking of buying a mac from the uk and i can pay it off monthly, which is 67pounds. does anyone know what the interest will be overall. its costing me a total of 2,240pounds. thanks.
reason for me buying a mac is so i can run final cut pro. does anyone know what the essential graphic card is to run final cut pro smoothly. or will the standard one be enough which comes with the mac pro?i was told that the mac pro is the ultimate thing for final cut pro
It is. However, it's not a computer one should buy on a tight budget and from the sounds on it you're way over stretched as is. It's sort of like buying an Audi TT where you have to spend around an extra £9000 or so on optional extras to make it worthwhile. Same goes with the Mac Pro.
because it can be upgraded where as the imac cannot
True… but you still have to be able to afford those upgrades and without doing so your Mac Pro won't be going anywhere near its best.
i was told that having 2gb ram is more than enough
You were told what you wanted to hear and what would make it easier for you to buy it. For FCS you're talking about a 4GB RAM minimum configuration with an 8GB recommended configuration.
because we have 2gb ram at our uni computers and final cut pro runs smooth.
That's a matter of perspective as you might want to see FCP running with 4GB+ RAM.
i heard you can get a few problems with an imac because everything is compact into one interface.
Did you hear that from the guy trying to sell you a Mac Pro? While it's true that every system has it's problems, and the iMac is no exception, you find that the iMac is an extremely well performing system for its price.
Don't get me wrong, the Mac Pro is the best system to buy if you're a video editor. You do however need the budget to go along with that and video is one arena which demands the absolute most from your computer system. Lacking in one area actually hampers the performance of the system as a whole and it is no more prevalent than with video.
My recommended minimum Mac Pro package for a video editor is…
Mac Pro 2.66Ghz 4GB RAM/2 x 500GB HDD RAID 0/ATi X1900 XT/1920 x 1200 resolution display/1TB HDD clone/1500VA-800W UPS
Remember, video editing is not just FCP and as your chosen profession it's the unfortunate cost of your -
ProRes422 effects rendering and graphics card
We are having problems with effects rendering and playing using Prorez 422 HQ.
Our system is: Mac Pro 2x 2.66 GHz dual core Xeon, 4GB RAM, with a NVidea GeForce 7300GT graphics card with 256 MB VRAM, pulling media off of a Facillis Terrablock.
We get the following error message:
"The effect "Desaturate" cannot be rendered in sequence of this size with the current graphics card"
The time line shows the effect as rendered, but it will not play in the canvas desaturated. It does show in the Browser desaturated.
Settings are at Safe RT, High Quality, full frame rate - we need to go out to tape.
Obviously, the error indicates we should use a different graphics card, but is this correct? Everything else I read indicates that this card should be enough to edit and do effects with in FCP. Is there a problem with using this card for Prorez or HD material? Is there a settings issue we should be looking at? What is the recommended card? Are there any links to the recommendations or known issues? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,I'm assuming that's an FXPlug filter. ATI cards handle FXPlug filters netter than nVidia cards, so if that's the problem, I wonder if one of these workarounds might help:
1) Place the clip, with enough heads and tails to allow for transitions in the final sequence, in a new sequence, apply the filer and see if it renders OK. Export that to a QT movie, import that back into the project and drop it into the final sequence in place of the unrenderable clip that's there now.
2) Put the clip into a new sequence, apply the filter but don't render. Export to a QT reference movie, and drop that into Compressor, and select the same codec as you are using for the final sequence and see it that will render. -
Power Supply and Graphics Card Question for HP Pavilion a6432p
Hello!
I have the HP Pavilion a6342p, and I'm wanting to install an NVIDIA Graphics Card either 512MB or 1GB. However, I'm not sure what is the power supply to this model (most graphics cards are saying 300-350W supply required).
Can anyone tell me what is the power supply to this model, and what would be a good graphics card model to look at to upgrade my graphics card to with this model? I believe the expansion slots are PCI-Express, but I'm not sure on the power supply so I can get the right graphics card.
Thanks!

[edit] err, the 9100 is an integrated video chipset. Are you sure that's the correct number?
No the 9100 is not just an integrated video chipset and is available in both AGP & PCI form.
The Antec is a good PSU but I would recommend getting something better such as the OCZ or Enermax as they have a higher +12v rail amp.
