Fcp 5 - fce file exchange

Is it possible to swap files between fcp and fce? It would be nice if the basic edtiting could be done with fce (on another computer) and them for final make-up transfered to fcp. Does that work? And how vice versa. Anyone has experience?
Thanks

If FCE can open and read XML files, you may have a chance. Export an XML of the FCP 5 project, then use that file to build a new project in FCE (IF FCE is compatible). Since I don't use or own FCE, I couldn't say.
That's the workflow for opening FCP 5 project files in FCP 4

  • FCE to FCP? Can I transfer an unfinished FCE file into FCP?

    Hi all,
I would like to know if i can transfer a FCE file into FCP and continue editing from there?
I started my first project in FCE, after many months of learning the basics the hard way.
Having now read about the features of FCP, I am considering upgrading as I am led to believe that a lot of issues that are consuming my time editing, (e.g. eliminating unwanted audio ticks, image stabilisation etc.) are far easier/quicker in FCP.
I realise that you can not make something out of what you don't have, but FCE just doesn't cut it when you start off with less than perfect material and are looking to smooth things out in general.
So if i buy FCP can i finsh my project?
Will my macbook pro handle it for now?
    2.4Ghz Intel Core Duo Processor,
    2GB 1067 Mhz DDR3 Memory,
    Thanks for any information.

You can open FCE projects in Final Cut Pro.
Work on a copy of your project file -there's no going back.
Your MacBook Pro will handle Final Cut Studio fine.

  • XML from FCP to FCE

Hi! I have FCP 7.0.3, and my friend has FCE 4.0.1. We're trying to work collectively, (He's doing the rough cut of our movie, then we're start interfacing between the two programs once we're working on the final cut) but I have a problem. I can open FCE files in FCP, but he can't open FCP project files in FCE, as I had expected. So the work around that I have found, through lots of internet searching, is that I can export XML files, and then he can import them into FCE, and then he'd have the exported sequence. But when I try it, he gets error messages. The only things I can think of is that I have the footage imported as Apple ProRes, and FCE doesn't recognize that kind of codec. Also, I don't know what version I should export the XML as (1 through 5). Help!
    Thanks!
    Paul

Here's one reply to a thread that is somewhat on this topic, from Creative Cow.
Re: Final Cut Express compatibility with FCP

    Hi there
I had a similar issue with bring FCP files back into FCE. After fiddling around a bit I found that the solution lies in Exporting an XML file from FCP. What you need to do is, while in FCP click on FILE--EXPORT--XML
Then from the format pull down, select the version # that is compatible with your version of FCE. I found the "Apple XML Interchange Format, version 4" works with FCE v4.0.1. Then in FCE Import the XML file by FILE--IMPORT--FCP XML From Imovie.
An issue worth noting is that FCP seems to only export individual sequences at a time not entire projects. So if you have more then one sequence in a project that you would like to import into FCE you'll have to export them as XMLs one at a time.
    Hope this helps

  • FCE file won't open after upgrading to Leopard

After upgrading a Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 from OS 10.4.x Tiger to OS 10.5.8 Leopard, a Final Cut Express file on an external HD will no longer open. The error message is “File Error: Access Denied.”
Other files on the external drive using other applications launch with no problem.
The FCE file opens OK on another Mac running OS 10.6.
    Any suggestions?

Different OSes handle it differently, besides the normally hidden UIDs.
I wonder if ACLs got enabled on those other drives?

  • FCP 5.1 file won't open in FCP 7

    Hi.
I am at my wits end...I have a FCP 5.1 file that I have been working on for years.
I had to upgrade to FCP 7 for reasons I won't go into and now my FCP 5.1 file won't open.
It is a file with footage from P2 cards. It has magic bullet/looks builder used throughout. I am not sure if that is the issue at one point ONE of the messages I got when it crashed (I got a few different ones at different times) was something about looksbuilder not working right.
In a nutshell, it slowly starts to open and then quits. (It gets to about 33 percent open over the course of 45 minutes and then crashes.)
The file is about half a gig and there is plenty of room on the MAC itself so it shouldn't be that the Mac is overtaxed.
I don't know what to do.
I tried opening various back-up copies, etc. because I thought maybe something was just corrupted. NONE of them open.
I tried deleting render files to limit how much it was trying to process when it opened the thing.
I even tried turning off the external drives that hold the media hoping that if it couldn't find the media it would just open the shell of a file for me and maybe I could reconnect it all later. Obviously, grasping at straws...
I am out of options. Do I just need to wipe my computer and reinstall 5.1 from scratch? That would stink because there is another project being worked on on the computer that is a FCP 7 file.
I tried putting a copy of FCP 5.1 back on the computer (so I have 7 and 5.1 on there now) to get it to open, but FCP 5.1 won't work either now (I get General Error 41 - whatever that means) Maybe you can't have two versions of FCP on the computer? Maybe it thinks it got opened in 7 so now it won't work in 5? even though it never fully opened? Guessing...
I'd appreciate any and all help. All I want to do is open the 5.1 file and save it in FCP 7 and work from there.
    Thanks!
    Shari

    Hey Michael:
Thanks for the response. I did something similar in that I opened the file on another computer that had FCP 7 and it was fine. So I saved that. Then I went to my Mac and tried to open that file and it crashed...but it said something about Looksbuilder...so I contacted them and they had me uninstall, reinstall and then fix the preference files for Looksbuilder and it now opens.
    YAY!
    Thanks again,
    Shari

Subject: WHEN I TRY TO OPEN A PDF FILE, THE READER OPENS  HUNDREDS OF MULTIPLE BLANK PAGES .
Something is definitely wrong with your install of Reader.
A PDF consists of only the number of pages it was created with.  Reader can and will only open those pages... IF it's installed and working properly.
Opening multiple blank pages from a document which contains none is a clear sign that the software isn't functioning. It's like putting a movie into a DVD player, and your TV starts a picture slide show of your last Summer's vacation. Not possible unless there's something seriously wrong.
    Uninstall Reader 9.
Use either Adobe's clean uninstaller or Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2. exe) to remove all Reader installer files from your system.
Reinstall Reader 9 from a new download (do not use the old one if you still have it on your system)

  • Can't open files in the Bluetooth File Exchange

I've had this problem before, but some how fixed it. Now it's not working again. I'm trying to get my pictures from my phone (RAZR) to put them onto my laptop. This is what I do:
I open the BT File Exchange > browse device > select browse > the audio, pictures, video folders come up > i double click the pictures folder...
This is where the problem starts. After I click on the pictures folder, it says "getting folder contents..." and then it says that the operation is complete, BUT it doesnt open the folder, or it says "The last operation failed: bad request." It just stays on the screen with the audio, pictures, and video folders.
Any idea's on how to fix this?

    Hey,
Heres a site you might want to look at. I can't stress enough how important it is before you can transfer, to add the feature on Bluetooth. I have found it works better. You need to do it in the Bluetooth Preferences. Make sure you can sync it with everything else before trying File Exchange.
    I hope that helps,
    Jon

  • TS3048 Bluetooth File Exchange had been started but not by me?

    Bluetooth was off.
I had however checked and confirmed bluetooth was off, since some other device seemed to have had bluetooth activity that was not initiated by me.
i.e. an iPad 1 had bluetooth turned on, but also not by me.
The bluetooth options in OS X were as restrictive as possible, with the advanced settings options all unchecked except reject incoming audio requests.
    Of course Discoverable was off.
However when I logged back in the "Bluetooth File Exchange" app was running.
I defintely did not start it, since I do not use bluetooth, and was not actually aware of the app until then.
The Bluetooth File Exchange app had a small window up asking whether I wanted to Turn Bluetooth on or quit.
However looking at the process in activity monitor (attached below) it seemed to be sending and receiving msgs.
    How is this possible?
Are there any logs I can check to see whether any files were transered and/or to see how the app was started?

  • Fce files for web

Hi. Could someone please explain the best way to put a FCE video file on a website in the highest possible quality for clients. These files are about 200MB as Quicktime files. I would like the files to play when clicked without making visitors choose quicktime or media player. I believe that I need to make a flash file, but am sooooo not a technical person in this regard. So my questions are:
How should I save my FCE file (what compressor)?
What software should I use to encode for the web to give me the best quality? I have read about some flash converters.
Any help would be so very appreciated.
    Humbly yours, jo

    Joardy,
I don't have a lot of experience doing this, but here' what has worked for me.
Export a QuickTime movie from FCE, then open it in QuickTime.
    In QuickTime: File -> Export
Export as "Movie to QuickTime Movie"
under Options, Settings: H.264, keyframe every 75 frames, compressor quality "high", data rate: restrict to 220 kbits/sec, optimized for streaming
    No filters
    Size 320x240
Then I check the "Prepare for Internet Streaming" box and choose "Hinted Streaming"
Here's a link to a 2:14 clip I exported with those settings. It is 4.3 megs.
    <http://www.wjma.radiohistory.net/linked%20images/Red%20Shipley.mov>
(I know there are some lower track images showing at the edges of the QuickTime frame. These don't show on a TV.)
Tom says some PC users have problems with QuickTime, but in my limited experience, this has not been a problem. Or maybe no one told me they had trouble.
I'd certainly welcome suggestions to improve what I'm doing.

  • File exchange with XP machine

I have my wife's XP machine paired but when I try a file exchange I get:
The device does not have the necessary services.
A quick search of Apple help forums gave up no help.

Probably.  Since Time Machine on your MacBook would only show you the backups for the MacBook, you'll need to use the Browse... option, per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #17.
Use it with the Mail app, per the blue box in #15 of the same link.  That will put them in a Recovered Messages mailbox, and you can then move them where you want.

My Bluetooth has disappeared and I have tried just about everything on the internet. When I click on Bluetooth file exchange it says hardware not found. I tried resetting everything as well nothing is working for me please help because now my facetime doesn’t work neither does photo booth and now I cannot text people off my laptop unless they have iMessage.

If you followed the instructions in the support article exactly (leaving the machine off for two minutes), then it has a hardware fault. Take it to an Apple Store or other authorized service provider for repair.

  • Bluetooth File Exchange - V551 - 10.4.10

I am able to use iSync to sync the addresses, etc. with my mac and Motorola V551 cell phone (which bluetooth sees as a computer – not a cell phone).
I know the computer sees the V551 because of the success in syncing addresses into this particular Mac.
Problems occur when I try to use the Bluetooth File Exchange to pull photos down from my phone, or upload files to the phone. The specific problem is it doesn't work at all.
When I have the Bluetooth File Exchange open, a dialog says,
    "Validating device"
and then the "Browsing..." window comes up and it reads
"Connecting to V551" with a little spinning icon to the left.
After a short time a window says,
"Timeout - the remote device has not responded but it may be busy working"
I have the options to Abort or Retry
After re-trying twice continues to fail, the next dialog pops up:
    The specific error says:
    "The Connection Failed or Closed
Would you like to attempt to reconnect or close this window?"
Then it shows the connection has closed.
This worked on this computer until recently.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    This functionality seems broken.
    Mac Pro 3GHz 8-Core   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   RAID 0 | ATI X1900 XT | 4GB

    Thank you for your efforts.
I'm glad your RAZR works with file transfers.
    My V551, however, does not.
File transfer from MOTO V551 to Mac via Bluetooth worked for me in 10.4.9 and prior OS's.
In 10.4.10 it does not work with my phone.
Nothing has changed anywhere except the OS update.
Worst case, I'll just boot up an older mac that is in earlier version of 10.4.x and get the data off the phone.
It's not a mission-critical type of issue but it would be nice not to have to jump through all the hoops.

  • ISync (and BT File Exchange) Mysteriously Stop Working...

Hi there. I've been very happily syncing my Sony Ericsson Z520a with my Powerbook G4 for a while. Almost a year in fact. Now, suddenly, isync stopped being able to connect to my phone. I have checked everything I know how to check; bluetooth is enabled on both my phone and my computer and the two are able to see each other, and all the settings on my phone and my computer are the same as they were before this stopped working.
    I'm getting this error:
[Z520a] Connection to the phone failed.
Please make sure that your phone is turned on. If this error occurs again, please restart your phone.
    Device "Z520a" synchronization failed
At first my computer couldn't see my phone, and my phone couldn't see my computer. When this first happened and I was trying to figure out what was wrong, I noticed that the "Computer Name" in the Bluetooth System Preference pane had gone to "Not Available". Initially I tried changing the name of my computer under Sharing, but that didn't help, so I restarted the computer and the phone. Then I re-paired the two devices. They saw each other just fine after that, and when I hit sync in iSync my phone is definitely communicating with my computer (its bluetooth activity indicator says it's communicating) but I still get the above error, and nothing is being transfered between my phone and computer. When I try to Browse my phone with Bluetooth File Exchange, it tells me "The connection Failed or Closed."
So, can anyone help me? Synchronizing my phone's calendar with my iCal is a big thing for me, and I really need to find a way to make it work again.
    Thanks!

Hi- I'm a Verizon customer, not Cingular but I know that Verizon purposefully cripples their phones to not allow BT file transfer... forcing you to email your pics, etc... which costs money. I would guess that maybe Cingular does the same?
As you've noticed... the Razor IS compatible with iSync... and there aren't a ton of phones that even do that, so that's a positive. I have a Motorola e815 and there ARE ways on the net to hack it to enable BT file transfer, though I'm not going to try them. Does the Razor have a memory card? I bought a memory card for my phone and I do transfers that way.
Anyway... like I said, I'm not sure that this is a Cingular issue, I'm just offering a thought since that's what I'm dealing with. You might try browsing the iSync part of the forums to find more info!

  • File exchange and V550

I have managed to pick up an old motorola V550.
I was very surprised that bluetooth worked with the mac for contacts and calendars, I don't believe it used to perhaps the latest update sorted this.
Anyway the iSync works fine, however bluetooth file exchange Validates the phone just fine then when it begins an upload of a tune or piccie or what ever it just says preparing, and eventually times out.
Is there anything I need to do to make this work, or does anyone have experiences using this phone with the mac and knows I should give up lol.

File Transfer allows a remote device to browse a specified folder. It can receive and send files to and from that folder. Additionally, it is possible to rename and delete files. You should set the folder to your user's inbox rather than the Desktop. Your current setting is dangerous.
File Exchange allows a remote device to send you a file. That's it. Nothing else can be done than sending you a file.
Personally, I highly recommend to turn off, require pairing and set the folder to your user's inbox for both services. Normally, there is no need for them. If you want to get a file of a remote device, you use the Bluetooth menu > Browse Device… option to use the File Transfer service of the remote device. On a computer like a Mac, providing these services is limited to some domains aka not useful for most users. Additionally, these are security risks.
Mac OS X tends to introduce bad defaults of Preferences. Additionally to turn these off, make sure your Bluetooth is invisible and Apple Address Book > Preferences > vCard > 2.1 (UTF-8) is set. This are the most problematic defaults related to Bluetooth I am aware in Mac OS X.
