FCP 5 not running smoothly on new Macbook Pro

Hoping there's a simple answer for this problem: Just got a macbook pro (2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo / GB DDR2 SDRAM) and am importing projects originally created on my G5. As soon as I play a sequence that has the smallest of rendered effects- repo, dissolve, etc.- it stops with the "frames dropped dring playback" window. Do I need to blow away and re-render them on the macbook pro? Does FCP automatically recognise the new intel chip or does it need to be instructed to do so?
Any info would be helpful....

Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Are you running FCP 5.1 or just 5.0.X? 5.1 is the universal application designed to run on either the new macs or the G5's.
Also where is your media stored? On the internal drive, over a network (what type of connection), firewire 400 or 800 dirve?
What type of footage are you editing and are your sequence settings set correctly?
A little more info would help people to give you some direction.
Welcome to the forums.

What codec do I need to add to play a video that is called .avi
It will not play on my new Macbook Pro since I put it into the movies section of my launchpad.  When it was on the desktop It worked fine.  I moved it back to the desktop and it still does not work.
The error message says  The document "   .avi" could not be opened.
A required codec is not available.

Download VLC Media Player which plays anything you throw at it and  Perian (AVI and FLV support).

    Just Curious.
    Thanks in advance.

No, you need either 5.1 or 6. Some people have installed it just to come back here and post with numerous problems only to find out they have the wrong version. You NEED either 5.1 or 6, no if, ands, or buts.

  • ITunes will not load to my new MacBook Pro

Transferred everything from MacBook to new MacBook Pro. Everything is working except iTunes. Restarting, disinstalling, and reinstalling makes no difference as iTunes starts checking the iTune library and then displays the message "iTunes quit unexpectedly" allowing you to send a report to Apple.

how did you do that ?
i've found the most successful method to transfer an iTunes library from one Mac to another is this:
connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in _*Target Disk Mode*_, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the source to <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).

your profile suggests you're on 10.6.3. if that's the case, i suggest you do this:
    (a) download the [_*Mac OS X v10.6.4 Update (Combo)*_|http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1048]
    (b) repair permissions using *disk utility* and reboot your Mac into _*safe mode*_
    (c) run the combo while in *safe mode*.
    (d) when the updater is done, let your Mac reboot normally
    (e) repair permissions again
please post back with results !

  • Why are none of my midi controllers not working with my new MacBook Pro?

They are all class-compliant and willl work on Mac OS X without the need of a driver is what M--Audio has posted on there website for all of my controllers.
I am using the following midi controllers:
    Keystation 49e
    Axiom 25
    Trigger Finger
I purchased my new laptop all most 2 months ago and have not been able to start making music on it since. Lots of issues transitioning to Lion. I am still using my old macbook to make music. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I had the same problem with my apps and your solution worked perfectly! You made my day (:

  • Will FCP 5 run on the newest MacBook Pro?

I am planning on getting a new MacBook Pro but I need to know if my FCP 5 will run on it. Or do I need 5.1. If so is there an update from 5 to 5.1. I haven't been able to find anything on Apple's suport site. It is too expensive for me to go the whole FCP Studio 2 upgrade. If I could onlu upgrade FCP I would.

    Hi,
Yes you need 5.1, it was a paid upgrade from 5.0, Apple only sells FCS2 now. You may find 5.1 on Ebay -- but make sure you get original Apple discs.

  • My external hard drive is not recognized on my new MacBook Pro, even though it is recognized on my older MacBook and other computers. Help?

Please help me find a solution to my new MacBook Pro not recognizing my hard drives. Yes, thats two hard drives I have that don't seem to work on this computer but both work on my older MacBook and many other computers.

It is formatted for both PC and Mac
I have tried finding it in Disk Utility, no dice...
    Tried both USB Ports
And a reboot is still unsuccessful..

  • Trackpad not working on brand new Macbook Pro 15" not retina,

I've just got from UPS my new Macbook Pro 15" not retina. It's the basic model, without upgrades.
I've plugged it in and turned it on to go through the setup assistant, but I had to do it with the keyboard and an external USB mouse, because the internal trackpad is not responding at all. Is it normal?
    Thanks!

That was the first thing I did. They told me that it was normal, but I don't believe them. They told me to wait until installation was complete and perform updates, and try after that. That's what I'll do, but I suspect I'll have to have it replaced.
Right now I'm migrating my old mac to this one. I'll update as soon as migration is complete.

  • Logic Studio 9 Not installing on a new MacBook Pro

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro (Retina) running the Mountain Lion (10.8.3). When I try to run the installer i'm being told that I can't run the installer because Power PC Applications are no longer supported even through the discs indicate it is a Universal App.
Any idea what gives?? I was able to install it on another MacBook Pro I got last year.

Last time I checked Pacifist, it allows the user to extract the component parts out of a package.
Have they now updated it to allow for Pacifist to actually run the Installer Script, too (in such a way as to duplicate the action of the original Installer script)?
I think that you will find that it has done so for some time, but it certainly does now:

  • USB net stick will not work and not recognized by brand new macbook pro lion

Hi and thank you to anyone that can help!
I just bought a new macbook pro with OX 10.7 Lion the other day.  I have an Alcatel x220 USB internet net stick that I used to use with my previous computer with Windows 7.
When I insert the usb stick, the setup driver is supposed to come up, so I can install it on the Macbook.  But nothing comes up, and the macbook does not even recognize that I have inserted the net stick.
I also downloaded the program, and the drivers, and still nothing.  The apple people tried fixing it for a few hours today, and they can't figure it out either.  Same with the cell phone company that provides me with the net stick.  No one has any idea how to fix it.
Basically, anyone have any idea how to get the USB net stick Alcatel x220 to work with a new macbook pro OS Lion 10.7?!?!?!?!?  This is driving me crazy, and I would really appreciate anyones' help!  Thank you!!
    Daniel

thanks I appreciate your response.  Yeah I read something about the 64 bit problem.  I found this link and at the bottom there is a driver update or something to make it work with 64 bit.  But I can't seem to get it to work right, and even could the apple tech people.  This is the link:  http://www.alcatelonetouch.com/global-en/products/mobile_broadband/ot-x220.html
Also, do you have any idea which USB sticks there are that are compatible with the 64 bit Lion?
    Thanks again

  • "Battery not Charging" on a new MacBook Pro 15''

The battery of my new MacBook Pro 15'' is not charging when plugged in. The battery is down to 4% and the battery status bar shows "Battery not Charging".

If this is a new MBP and you purchased it from an Apple store, you have a 14 day period in which to exchange it for a new one (or a refund).  If you purchased st from a reseller, their return policies will apply but the MBP should be fixed under the warranty provisions.
    Ciao.

  • Brother Printer HL-5250DN not working with my new MacBook Pro - HELP

Hello there, I just purchased a new MacBook Pro - I've had to use PC (yuck) for work and had an IBook which was great until the dog knocked it off the dresser ...... Anyway, so I've replaced it with the Pro and love it - of course. Except......
My problem is this Brother printer (HL 5250DN) which has been an absolute workhorse, but try as I might I can't get this Pro to print - unless I physically hook it to a USB port and print, which defeats the purpose of having a wireless network allowing me to print from anywhere.....
I have tried suggestions from previous posts (unzipping the gz files - resetting the printer) but still nothing works... Any other suggestions - I'm going nuts here and Brother help line can't seem to give me a solution that works... HELP..... I really want to get going (New Years Resolutions and such) on my new projects and am absolutely grounded with this thing....
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Check the Dell website for compatible printer drivers you can download and install.
Once the drivers are installed, open System Preferences > Print & Scan > Print
Then click + to add the printer.
***  When you post for help, please state which OS X is installed.
If you aren't sure, click About this Mac from your Apple menu 

  • How to make photoshop run smoother on a macbook pro?

    Here is my hardware overview:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,1
      Processor Name: Intel Core i5
      Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
      Number of Processors: 1
      Total Number of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
      L3 Cache: 3 MB
      Memory: 16 GB
For some odd reason, Photoshop isn't running smoothly on my mac despite going beyond the minimum requirements.
    Wilnesse Dericer

The problem was, I had moved the Aperture 1.0 application into a new folder (it is placed by default at the top level of the APplications folder), and it seems that the 1.5.2 update installer doesn't recognize it in other locations.
So, when I moved it backt out of the new folder into the Application folder again, everything worked just fine.

  • Will OS X Mavericks run on my new Macbook Pro?

[EDIT] Duplicate post - please see https://discussions.apple.com/message/22216397#22216397
    Hi,
I'm planning to buy a 2.9 GHz dual-core i7 MacBook Pro this week, with OS X Mountain Lion pre-installed.
Can anyone please advise if they would foresee any issue upgrading to OS X Mavericks when it becomes available?
I already have a 2008 MacBook which cannot be upgraded later than Snow Leopard, so I want to avoid being limited again.
Any advice is much appreciated, thank you.

Hello Ecomm, and Welcome to Apple's Support page!
Yes OSX Maverick WILL RUN on your Macbook Pro. It will probably NOT run on the older White Plastic Model Macbooks, but OSX Moutain Lion Will! (on specific models)
I got my Macbook Pro in December (of 2012) and I am posotive OSX Maverick will run on the new Macs with OSX Moutain Lion or Lion installed.
