FCP 5 TEXT ISSUES

I have a problem with my edit and was wondering if anyone have the same problem and found a solution to it.
I'm doing an edit right now and in one of the scenes I have a TEXT on top of the footage. (4 layers of text). One of the text layers have a CROP animation in the MOTIONS TAB (was trying to reveal each line with the VO). After I render I start seeing GREEN ARTIFACTS around my text. It's weird because without rendering it.. the GREEN disappear but once I render the scene the GREEN shows up...
At first I thought it was the G-CARD but it also shows up on my broadcast monitor.

boris is vector based, and the basic fcp text is bitmapped. What that means is that you can resize and reposition your type in the control tab with boris without any loss in quality. You cannot do this with fcp text. Also, I think the dropshadow, kerning and leading options are more extensive with boris. Not positive about this as I abandoned the basic fcp titler a long time ago.

Adding Symbols and Underlining using FCP Text Generators

I would like to add the © symbol to FCP text and underline text. How is this possible? Thanks.

Underline and scroll could be a bit tricky. You woud have to move two separate elements -the text and the underline generator together. I suppose you could nest them and apply a move to both at the same time if its just a short piece, it gets complicated when that has to appear somewhere in the middle of a longer scroll.
I prefer to make a still in Photoshop for scrolls and move the whole thing with only two keyframes.
You just need to make a Photoshop canvas that is tall enough to hold all the text. Photoshop also supports the underline function (in the Paragraph palette).
In LiveType, you can type a row of hyphens below your text and adjust the Tracking to squash them together make a solid line, then adjust the Leading value to move it into position.

D11 Unicode Text Issues

There appear to be several text issues in D11 on Mac OSX
10.4.11 and 10.5.2.
First problem being that setting the style of text to bold or
italic doesn't show any change. This occurs in both Shockwave and
D11 projectors.
Second using Chines Unicode font Song the text in fields
sometimes disappears. Its still there since calculations based on
the content of those fields still works but no text is visible
onscreen.
This font also has the problem where the text will not change
to bold.
Anyone else seenig anything like this or have a solution?

IF we are now limited to setting only font styles that are
specifically defined in the font we're in real trouble.
This is NOT the way it worked in all previous version of
Director that I've used (7, 8, 8.5 MX, MX 2004).
The project I'm converting to D11 deals with font styles as I
would expect in MX 2004 on the very same machine with the same
fonts that D11 refuses to make bold.

FCP text plain and bold

I use FCP text to create comments. I use cooperplate and plain. When I edit some of clips with text to correct spelling or changes. Font changes to bold-like even set up it is cooperplate and plain. How can it change? I tried to change to different font and plain then go back to my selection. It won't change to plain. Any suggestions?

I see... I already set all. I avoid to redo but for next time I will use Boris. I just test it. My problem is how do I know where is the right side end.

8350i texting issue (telus) please help!

I'm really getting tired of hearing about a fix in the works for the texting issue of the 8350i on the telus network. i still can't send a text or determine the sender of a text. its been a couple of months with this otherwise great phone, but I'm getting close to throwing it in the garbage. has anyone actually heard or know of a specific date when this texting issue may be resolved? I still can't believe that telus and or rim can't solve this issue, do they not understand that there are contractors out there that use the mike and need a smartphone? maybe if they actually made one that worked well they would be surprised at the overwhelming sales of such a device.

it has not been resolved .. Telus told me RIM had solved it with a 5.0.?.? ver of OS but it was pulled because it was messing other stuff up.. I don't know that this is true, this is what Telus told me.. I called RIM and they couldn't release anyinfo on the issue to me and directed me to the press release area of the site where I found SFA. I have the latest software 4.6.1.294 on my 8350i and it isn't that old maybe a year if that. There is no way I am spending 600 bucks so I can text ... there must be a fix .... someone please help

FCP text is ultra-pixelated even after rendering. How do i fix it?

I've been working with FCP for a while now and this is an issue I've had a few time before. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesnt. thing is, i dont do anything differently from time to time. But its been happening every time lately. Even after I render, the text in FCP is very pixelated. It looks nice when im in the program, in my canvas, but then i view it full screen or export and the text looks terrible. Also, I've been using livetype files that are fully rendered and look great in livetype and after i render them from livetype, but the same thing happens. Am i missing something? Please help. I edit a show called Seesmix and it has happened pretty much every time with this show. I export it as .mp4. you mentioned that when you 'watch it full screen' that the text looks bad. do you mean full screen on youtube or fullscreen on your comp monitor? how big of a monitor is it? everything will look like garbage if you expand it beyond the size that it was intended for. it's like, HD stops being HD if you look at it on a huge monitor. pixels get larger and you lose definition.

FCP text dissapears after Compressed

Running Dual G5 that shipped with Tiger. I'm using the FCP4 package and DVDSP3.
Compressor has been doing two things that it was not doing with Panther.
1. Text crawls created in FCP dissapear after going through Compressor MPEG 2 high quality process (FCP regular text does not dissapear)
2. Chapter markers are not retained either.
Previously I had problems with Tiger doing weird stuff with DVDSP, but apple put out a patch to correct it.
Any ideas or solutions for the above two problems? (I've already read other similar threads - unfortunately none of the suggestions helped my problem and the folks weren't using the same versions of software)

IPhone 4S on AT&T - texting issues

I'm one of those guys that is having texting problems with the iPhone 4S. I can't send or receive anything. It seems that most people have problems because of the new cap on texting data. However, mine does not say it is full or anything like that. Also, when I send texts, they seem to go but no one actually receives them. I cannot send group or mms messages. I have restored from a back up and as a new phone. Neither has worked. I've also reset my network settings and done multiple hard resets. I don't know what else to do. The only thing that is working is iMessage. It's getting kind of annoying that I can't send or receive and texts so if there aren't any new suggestions I guess I'll take my phone back to AT&T to see if they can help. Thanks in advance.

My wife is having the same issue, *exactly* as you describe it, with her iPhone 4s on AT&T. It's ridiculous, and so far AT&T tech support is totally unhelpful.

FCP Memory issue on a new MBP

I just bought a new 17" macbook pro with 4gb of ram. It's only a few days old. I'm having an issue with final cut pro 6 while trying to render or compress a file. Over the course of a few minutes, It transfers all of my memory from free to inactive memory and then either crashes or gives me an out of memory error. Meanwhile only a small portion is actually active. The same thing happens when I export using compressor.
I tried compresing the same exact file on my old powerbook G4 that has 1.5ghz of ram and it processes fine with plenty of free memory left over.
I have absolutely no clue what's causing this. I've adjusted the preferences, deleted them, deleted render files, ran FCP rescue, and nothings having an effect.
I don't think anything is wrong with the ram, because every other program works great.
Has anyone heard of this problem before? Any advice to what can be causing the problem? Please help!!

If you don't feel comfortable with this process, Brian's advice seems the best way to go.
That's exactly why I suggested it. Swapping RAM sticks in a MBP is a little bit tricky. I'm experienced at all that stuff, but the first time I did it on a MBP, I was a bit nervous.
And if you don't practice safe static control, you could do harm to the good sticks as well. (And you might never know you did it, as it doesn't always show up right away.)

Mac OS X 10.4.11 Text issue seems to be unresolved for many...

My web-pages and menus (outside of offline) continue to display diacritics (non-english letters with accents)! They're added into words, grammatical punctuation is substituted for these letters. Sometimes I suffer from text overlapping it's frames, divs, text-areas etc. I don't know what the issue is. Websites suggest to find duplicates and resolve them in my font book, but that doesn't PERMANENTLY solve the issue, nor does it resolve the text coming out of it's frames. I would REALLY like someone to give me REAL advice; Preferably, but not limited to someone who's experienced this issue and has resolved the problem permanently.

Download Font Nuke. Close all other applications you may have running.
Run Font Nuke and click on the "Nuke Font Caches" button at the upper left. The panel will fill with other choices. At the lower right, first click "Update Caches List". It will search your hard drive for font cache files and list them. The purpose being simply so you can see what is about to be removed. Click the "Nuke Font Caches" button at the bottom right. Your Mac will restart. Don't attempt to stop the restart. You should always restart immediately after removing any cache files.
Most of the time, this is all that's needed to correct font issues in OS X. If not you may be missing fonts the web site needs to display properly. Read my article, Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther. It explains the minimum fonts you should have active on your Mac at all times. For web pages in particular, the following fonts get used a lot.

Arial Black
Comic Sans MS
Tahoma
Trebuchet MS
Verdana

Director 12 on iPad text issues

When publishing a from Director 12 to iPad has anyone had any particular text rendering issues? I have been using Trebuchet MS which is an ios supported font (i get the same problems with other fonts however).
The particular problems i have is that superscript text, using the #superscript font style are not appearing at the correct height at the top of the text, instead it sits at the bottom of the line. Also, any text i colour with a faint colour (#00B8FF, a bright light blue in my example) appears with what seems a faint black line stroke or shadow around it like it hasn't be anti-aliased? The darker colour i choose the better it seems to render.
I would be very interested if anyone has encountered similar problems, and if they have managed to fix it in any way, even through a workaround? It seems a strange problem that should be fixable.
