FCP 5 to podcast video

When exporting to "movie to ipod" my video is streched. I noticed that the size is 320 x 240. For DV is should be 360 x 240 is it not? Or, is this a square vs rectangular pixel thing.
I have been working around this by squeezing my video before outputting but this puts black bars on the side of the presentation screen (yuck).
Is there a better way around this?
Thank you for any help

HD is square pixels, and that may have an influence on why it's 1280x720. Here's something you can rely on, HD is 16:9 and SD is 4:3. Given that you can see that 1280x720 and 1920x1080 are both square pixels, and 720x480 and 720x576 are not square pixels.
The solution to your iPod needs is so easy that you may not be spotting it! Just don't worry so much. Work with DV in FCP in the normal way, and then for an iPod version do an Export Using QuickTime Conversion, and on the popp menu select the iPod entry. You will get correct looking iPod video.
Now, I just tried it, and so I'll preempt your next question! You may see narrow black bands down the sides of the iPod version. Those are actually in the orginal DV signal, but you would not notice them on a TV, they would most likely be off the edges. If you want to make it nicely fill the whole area you could select the video track in FCP, apply a deinterlace filter, and also scale the image up just a little. The video will still look as good in the iPod version, and it won't have the black bands.

  • FCP Export for Podcast...

Hi, our church podcasts our weekly services and I am using FCP 5.1.1 to create the podcast video. I am getting great results in exporting the video/audio to quicktime. I am using h.264 formatted to 320 x 240 with AAC audio. When the export is finished, it plays VERY well within iTunes and through browsers after being uploaded with iWeb. HOWEVER, it won't copy or play on the video iPod. I end up using Viddyup to convert to ipod format.
Can anyone suggest some settings that I might be able to use to get the export to work on my iPod directly from FCP without having to export a second time from another application?
    Thanks!

  • I was downloading podcast video in my itouch using wifi, but suddenly my wifi got disconnected and now there is a link in my podcast list which on opening uses wifi to play that video. I want to delete that link. Right to left swapping is not working.

I bet this is too late but...
Are you trying to print through the airport express wirelessly or the built in wireless of the lexmark? If you want to use the airport express, there is no need to mess with the wireless printing on the lexmark at all. The airport express will be easy to set up, all the wireless setups through the printers are a pain.

  • How can I reduce a large podcast video without losing quality?

I am in the process of putting online a podcast video, that I have exported for ipod with quicktime. However, the file is rather large (100MB) and it is complicate for me to break it into smaller files. As I start iWeb it warns me that the file is large and it would require long download times. I was wondering if there was a way to reduce the size of podcast/ipod files without compromising quality too much.
    Thank you very much!

  • I have a podcast video that refuses to be deleted.

I have a podcast video that refuses to be deleted. Normally, a swipe would bring up the delete function. For one video it will not allow the delete button. I am sure there is not content, only the label. How can I get rid of this annoying entry? This is a Iphone 4S.

Through another topic, I was advised to restore the Iphone. The restore also resolved this issue. The annoying entry is now removed.

  • Can't see podcast videos...

I just downloaded one of my favorite podcast videos that I'm subscribed to and I tried to open it to watch it within iTunes like I always have done before with other versions of iTunes but it won't play the video. I can hear it but can't see it.
I heard that you have to have Quicktime 7 to view video for the new iTunes but in order to have Quicktime 7 you have to have OS X 10.3 or higher which I don't have, so, unless I upgrade I'm screwed regarding my podcast videos? Also, if I bought a new video iPod would I not be able to view the video on there because I don't have the correct upgraded operating system?
    Thanks for the help guys!

    Hello Donald L,
These files can be found in your iPod's iPod_Control folder which is hidden by default. So turn on the option to show hidden files and folders, and from there you should be able to access this content on your iPod.

  • Updating an existing podcast video

I have a podcast and I wanted to update an existing video. When I update the video however, and update via itunes. my old podcast video remains the same.
So far the only solution I have found was deleting the current video, then "getting" the updated one. Is there a way that these can automatically update?
    thanks!

Subscribers to a podcast download episodes listed in iTunes, which it does by reading the feed. If you change an episode's media file but retain the same file name for it, or even change the filename but change the feed's entry for that episode to match, iTunes will not see the episode as having changed. New subscribers, or old ones who haven't downloaded that episode yet, will get the new version. However people who have already downloaded the old episode will retain it and won't be aware of the new one.
If you want to force everyone to have the new version you would have to make a new episode - even if you called it 'Episode 12a' or some such - and then everyone would see it as a new item and could download it: you could of course remove the original episode from the feed. Then people who had not downloaded the old episode would see that one; but people who had downloaded the old version would obviously still have it, and would get the new version as well. You can't delete an episode from people's computers, obviously, nor would anyone want you to have that ability.

  • Move a current podcast (video) from a Wordpress based xml to iWeb

    Hello,
I'm thinking of moving away from Wordpress and using iWeb. I already have my podcast (video) set up and running smoothly with iTunes using an xml file. Anyone done this yet? Anything I need to watch out for? I don't want to shut things down with iTunes or anything sinister like that! CHEERS!

Why am I thinking of moving away from Word Press? Several reasons. Because trying to find a in-post player for my .m4v video podcast files has been a long-term search, with crappy results and no end in sight. Because the so-called automatic update NEVER seems to work and I always have to drop back and punt the manual way. Because you have to be an expert at web page layout to get something better than the chunky templates available. And finally, because my video'cast will start making money next year and WordPress will want some of that money. I'm already paying for iLife & iWork and don't think the Apple EULA requires me to give them more money just because my hard work might possibly pay off. Didn't mean to go "nuclear" on you, but WordPress just isn't a good long term solution for me.

  • IPhone Doesn't Play Podcast Videos

My iPhone doesn't play podcast videos - it shows a static picture then plays the corresponding audio, is this a configuration issue in iTunes or iPhone - or is this a disappointing defect? Thanks ...

Not so much a bug, but a difference in behavior from the iPods.
In the iPod, you can make a playlist under Music->Playlist and it can contain both audio and video files. It will play the audio files fine, then the audio-only of the video files in the list. Having videos in a music playlist seems like a bug, but this "feature" allows you to just hear audio of video files if you desire (like listening to a movie without running the video screen).
If you go in to Video->Playlists instead, you play audio, then switch to video when it hits a video item in the list.
On the iPhone, the concept of Video Playlist is unavailable, only a playlist via TV Shows. So, I can't do it like I've been doing it for the past year or so on my iPod with Video.
I'm working on workarounds right now. I tried toggling all the vidcasts to "TV Show" video type, so they can be added to a TV Show playlist, and that sorta-works but isn't graceful (if I can make it work, I'll provide an iTunes script to do this for us).
I also found out by downloading the podcasts (check them off specifically) they can be made to show up in the video section, but just having them in an Audio Playlist isn't enough.
    More research...

  • Will FCP 7 import AVI video from my Nikon D90?

Will FCP 7 import AVI video directly from my Nikon D90?
If not, is there a simple workaround?

The material has to be converted to the Apple Intermediate Codec. You can probably do this using MPEG Streamclip.

  • Podcast Videos

I'm not able to view Podcast Videos on my iPod. I can watch them in iTunes but they won't d/load to the iPod.
    Anyone else with this problem?

BusyMe is right, but to expand on BusyMe's answer:
There's a lot of speculation about a video iPod in the future (because of the introduction of video podcasts and the registration of certain website names) but it's all just speculation. Apple reps are still toeing the company line that Apple is not interested in a video iPod.
As such, the only way to watch videos on the iPod right now is with iPod linux, and for most users this is not a good idea (because it can be a bit technical).
