FCP 6.0.5 and Sony HVR-M15U - DV Connection Issue

My head is hurting at the moment. I cannot get my Sony DV deck to be seen in FCP 6.0.5. I can see the deck as HDV. For DV mode, you have to turn on the iLink conversion. I have set the deck to iLink Set - DV SP. BUT... Final Cut Pro does not see the deck at all.
Here's the specs:
Mac Pro (Late 2007) Quad Pro 3.0
8 gig of matching paired RAM
FCS 2.0 with all of the latest updates.
MacOS 10.5.6
AJA Kona 3 driver version 6.03
AJA Io driver version 2.01 - disconnected unless needed for capture from older tape decks
ATI Radeon XT1900 (512 RAM)
ATTO Celerity FC-42ES fiber channel card
Quicktime 7.6
Adobe Creative Suite Premium CS3 (with all updates applied)
I have checked Apple's tech site and forums, nothing other than removing the old Quicktime receipts and reinstalling Quicktime. I tried this... Still nothing. I tried to use another deck, a Sony HVR-M10U. Nothing!
Before you say, its the firewire connection in the computer, HDV does work just fine. Its DV that doesn't work. I have used it just fine with Adobe Premier Pro CS3 (DV capture and Export to Tape). Apple's iMovie sees the deck just fine, too. I wish I had an HVR-1500 deck so that I could bypass this issue, but I don't have one.
What I ended up doing was exporting my sequences from FCP using Quicktime Conversion and setting it to DV Stream. Then I can import my video into Premier Pro CS3 and Export to Tape. Works perfectly.
If I go back into FCP and try this, I get an error message telling me the firewire connection is not found. My iLink lights on the front of the deck are also off. Its not showing any iLink connection on the deck. Now, when I open Premier Pro, the iLink light comes on for DVCAM.

As far as I know (from reading only, I don't do HDV) PPro does not show the video during capture... this is not a bug
You should (again, reading only) be able to see the video in PPro while simply playing it on the camera and not actually capturing

How to capture HD/SD in Premiere Pro 2.0 using Sony HVR-M15U?

I have mini dv tapes.Some are HDs and SDs. How to capture these tapes in Premiere Pro 2.0 using Sony HVR-M15U deck?

Thank you for the respond.
Yes, I tried already that way but it didn't work. The deck plays. I saw also in the monitor I connected to the deck has display. But it's not in Premiere Pro 2.0. I only saw the timecode running but it has no display. And I tried to save what I'm capturing but it says no frame captured if I not mistaken.
Fortunately, I did captured the video by "passthrough" - I mean by using the videocamera. I connected the videocamera to INPUT ports of the deck. And the firewire connected to my PC and the deck. I played the tape of course in the videocamera and begun capturing with no problem. But I think I lost the quality of the video, did I?
Jim, if you have some tips can you share it to me. I will appreciate it so much.

Sony TV and Sony Home Theater not connecting?

Hi Experts i have got a Sony TV (70W850B) and Sony Home Theater (BDVN9200WB), connected with a high speed HDMI cable with both ARC jack, however no sounds coming out from the speakers when wacthing TV. the facts: 1) the HDMI cable is high speed HDMI cable bought recently, one end plud into the ARC out jack on the receiver and the other end into the TV HDMI 2 (ARC). 2) TV Setting - audio is set for out put as home theatre and 'Subwoofer' 3) Home theater setting - HDMI control is ON, ARC is AUTO. 4) Can auctually operate the home theatre on TV screen via HDMI input, test all speakers are working. 5) Just no sounds when turn on the TV channels or topbox etc Any ideas? You may try adding Digital Optical connection from the TV to the Home Theater System if they supports Digital Optical connection.

FCP 6 and Sony HVR-V1U 24p; can't remove 3:2 pulldown or convert to 24 fps

Hi, all, I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I recently purchased a Sony HVR-V1U HD camera that has a native 24p setting (using 60i with 3:2 pulldown to store on miniDV tape).
I have just started experimenting with pulling footage off this camera into Final Cut Pro (6.0.3), and am having some problems getting things to work using log-and-capture. Specifically, it seems I can either choose the ProRes 422 setting and effectively use a "capture now" capturing method--which gets me native 24 (or 23.98 if 24pa is used) frames per second--or I can use the 60i setup--which gets me the standard log-and-capture window where I can actually log my clips, but brings them in at 29.97 fps.
I would make due with the 60i setting since that allows me to batch capture clips I want from my footage... however, I am not able to alter the frame rate or remove the 3:2 pulldown using cinema tools (I get a "unable to find clips with 29.97 fps" error, when the properties clearly list the clips as having 29.97 fps).
Can anyone help here? I'm quite accustomed to using the log and capture window so the "capture now" method seems very inconvenient; but if I can't get the clips transcoded to 24fps somehow I'm not sure what else I can do.

Capturing HDV uses a somewhat different workflow than regular DV and other I Frame formats (if that is what you have been used to so far).

Apple iTouch and Sony PSP will not connect to Home...

Just received my kit for the Home Hub 2.0, (although as my PC is close by this is connected via ethernet cable), other than this, this is the first time I have gone wireless, main reason is that I am getting a slightly better deal and that I wanted to be able to connect all of my gaming and phone devices via wireless connection.
Connected up, installed the software, first up was the iTouch:
1. Turned on Wi-Fi, straight away my SSID was showing, selected it, it then asked for my Password/Security Key.
2. I entered the correct key, then tried to connect, all I get is 'Unable to join the network'.
Next the PSP:
1. Created a New Connection to get online, scanned automatically and again straight away my Home Hub was found.
2. Went through all the setup screens and entered the key when prompted, when I then tried to connect the following message was displayed, 'The access point was not detected'.
I have tried setting the key from WPA-WPA2 to just WPA, even tried WEP, still the same, I have checked all password and keys that I am typing in correctly.... I have been on this for 3 hours now and am at a loss, this should be so simple why is ist not???.... any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

regarding the itouch, try changing the wireless channel (I'll guess the hub may be on ch1)

Jaybird headphones and Macbook Pro Retina bluetooth connectivity issues

I recently purchased the Jaybird Bluebuds X Premium headphones and for awhile it would connect to my new Macbook Pro Retina 15'' via bluetooth, but now it doesn't anymore. The headphones connect just fine to my phone (iPhone 4S), and other Macbook Pros (not retina), but they do not connect to other Macbook Pro Retinas. I was wondering if this was a connectivity issue with Macbook Pro Retinas and if so how can I get around it to connect the headphones again?

It sounds like your Bluetooth headphones aren't working with this one computer, but there is no issue with other devices that you have. I would start with these 2 steps from the following article:
Restart your computer
Sometimes a simple restart of your Mac is all it takes to get things running smoothly again. You may also want to try resetting your computer's PRAM and NVRAM.
Reset your Bluetooth device
Try turning your device off and then on again. If that doesn't resolve the issue, see if you can reset your device—refer to the documentation that came with your device for instructions.

Win2000 Server and OS 10.4.11 connection issues

We have 2 Macs running on a WIN2000 Server we have had no issues up until lately. We connect to a drive on the WIN2000 server and normally it will stay connected all day with no interruptions. Now we both are experiencing at least 2-3 times a day the drive is just disconnected and dropped off our desktop, no dialog box stating this, nothing. We don't even realize it's missing until we try and open something from the drive. We don't even get an error message when we try and save documents to the drive. So please help us. Is it the WIN2000 server or is it our MAC OS X we were wondering if it was the latest security update we have done?

If this is a fairly recent problem, and you did nothing to cause it and cannot find a logical explanation otherwise, all things point towards a possible server problem.
Have you had the folks that maintain the server take a look at it?

Depending on the quality of the product to be delivered to the customer, I've found that shooting in HDV, editing in ProRes 422, then using Compressor to downconvert to MPEG2 for DVD with frame controls on (resize = better) produced MUCH better looking video than starting with DV; fewer moire patterns, less mosquito noise. less primary color banding on diagonal edges, etc.
As for low light, the Z5/Z7 are supposed to have improved the situation with larger sensors, new in camera processing, etc. I don't have one, so I can't address that directly, but I suspect there are expert reviews around somewhere. Once should also consider the Canon XH-A1 series. It has been well reviewed and performs better in low light than the Sony V1U according to those reviews.
But if you iintend to use the camera professionally (I don't), you should go to a pro store with a tape (or memory card as the case may be) in hand and shoot some footage; shoot into some dark corners, view "busy" scenes (chain link fence, anyone?), difficult autofocus situations (for example, with the V1U, where the focus point is NOT in the center: watch is search about for focus), etc.
Then take the tape, etc. and get it ingested to FCP and look at it carefully. A camera is your biggest pro tool, and you should get one that suits your needs and expectations. It is worth the time to test it out and not just rely on reviews here or elsewhere, though they are good starting points for what to look out for.

Unable to capture HDV in FCP 6.0.1 from Sony HVR-Z1P

Hi I'm attempting to capture HDV footage from a Sony Z1.
I am trying to capture some HDV footage I shot with the Z1, but FCP simply refuses to recognize the Z1
I'm certain I've got all the settings correct:
- Camera is set to HDV firewire out
- capture presets is set to HDV
- device control preset is set to Sony HDV FireWire
- sequence preset is set to HDV 1080i50 (I'm in Australia)
- footage IS HDV 1080i50
But I keep getting the "Unable to Initialize Capture Device and Device Control" popup. I've tried everything
- rebooted the camera
- restarted FCP
- rebooted the system
- changed the capture/device control settings in FCP and tried out a regular DV deck to make sure it wasn't the cable
Nothing has worked.
I'm on a MBPro I7. No Kona card or anything like that, just trying to capture through firewire.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

At present it will capture HDV in IMovie but not FCP 6.0.1

Thanks Adrian, since posting the thread I've thought of that too but unfortunately to no avail. From other forums I've read this seems to be a central theme to the solution to my capture woes. I since have sorted the problem it was in Audio/Video Settings.
In the end I set my Audio/Video Settings to:
Sequence Preset to: Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i50
Capture Pre-HDV- Apple intermediate Codec
Device Control Preset: Sony HDV 1080i50 Firewire
And hey presto my I'm capturing HD without any problems. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Is FCP X compatible with a Sony HVR-V1U camcorder?

I used the camcorder compatibility query tool but did not see the HVR-V1U or V1N listed.

Thanks, Ben. That is indeed the plan. I was just fishing to see if anyone had actually captured from an HVR-V1U or N into FCPX. Agree that it SHOULD . . . a Firewire connection from tape media is a standard thing. But I never cease to be amazed at technical surprises.

Sony Blu Ray Player connect issue

Just added a Sony BDP S350 Blu Ray player to my network via a WGA54G. It appears I can connect to BD Live sites but not Sony's firmware update server. I can connect to that server when I go wired directly through the DSL modem. I have also tried to connect through the router and a cat line but no luck. I use DHCP and WEP 64 bit. Everything else is default....
Any thoughts?

You need to use the same wireless security encryption on the router and adapter (either WPA2 or WEP, but not both). If you make these changes it should work.
EDIT: Looking at the spec for the WGA54G I see that it only supports WEP, therefore the only option would be for you to change the security on the router to WEP.
You also need to use the same passphrase (or keys) for the router and adapter.
Check page 28 (troubleshooting) of your WGA54G manual and under #1 it will show:
Make sure that the SSID is the same as the SSID of the access point.
On the WEP Encryption screen, make sure that all of the WEP settings are the same as the WEP settings of the access point.

Sony experia z3v wifi connectivity issues

So I am currently having this reoccurring issue with my phone staying connected to the wifi at my home or any wifi at all even though the wifi signal will read that it's connected when I get on the internet it pretty much says different. I have only had this phone for barely a month or two and this issue started maybe the 2nd week I got it. So as much I loved my phone I wasn't gonna be dealing with this issue so before my refund date was up I decided to go to my local verizon to see if I can exchange it or see if they can fix the situation, instead they said I can exchange it but what your dealing with is a bug in the operating system of your phone and that I should be getting an update early to mid April that will fix my problem so I decide I can wait if they are that positive so which leads me to my problem now. It is the beginning of May and I have yet to hear or see and update on my phone so occurs my situation continues and unfortunately I cannot switch my phone out cause I assumed the lady at my local verizon had known what she was talking about so I pretty went past my 14 refund days and I'm stuck with this phone that is forcing me to use all my data till this "update" is available. Is there a way I can just switch to a new phone somehow?

There isn't much you can do about that phone right now short of buying another phone at full retail or buying elsewhere at reduced prices. Technically, you could sell your phone, but the buyer might find that Verizon wont allow it to be activated since it is on an account that hasn't finished its contract. I believe you are way too early for Early Edge options. You can call Verizon and discuss that option though. Early Edge would require you to turn in the Sony in working condition and you'd start a 2 year process of paying the new phone off.

Sony RDP-XF300iP Bluetooth Connection Issue

I have a Sony Bluetooth radio and I can not get the my iMac to connect and play iTunes music through it. It pairs and then says that an error has occured and that it will and prompts me to Stop using headset.
Any ideas?

If the phone does not have the Bluetooth profile required for file transfers, then there is nothing you can do. It simply doesn't support file transfers.
I'd check the phone manual though that there isn't some option that needs turning on in the menus of the phone.
Also, on the Mac to send files from phone toMac you have to turn on Bluetooth Sharing in the Sharing system preferences pane.
