FCP 6 Quits after loading

Hi all,
Everytime I start final cut pro 6 it's quits quietly without a reason after it's loaded. This is only the case with fcp ,all the other programs of the FCS 2 suite work perfectly. How can I fix this? The update didn't change anything.

take a look in the Console app under the Logs tab, in ~/Library/Logs >> Crash Reporter >> Final Cut Pro.crash.log

FCP quit after capture in HDV

Hello
I want to capture in HDV1080i50 and I have all settings correct but the application Final Cut quits after the capture. Any advice ? Thank you !

It sounds like you have your camera set for down converting to DV. What camera/deck is it?
If it is a Sony try this, turn off the camera, disconnect the FW cable, turn on the camera in VTR mode, open the menu to Rec In/Out, find i-link conv and set to OFF for HDV (or ON for DV), then back out of the menu and turn off the camera and connect the FW cable, and turn it back on. By turning off the camera it will insure safe FW connections so there is not possibility of shorting this port.

FCP Quits After Reinstall

I was having some issues with FCS2 on my MacBook so I thought I's just reinstall everything.
I used FCS remover to uninstall FCS.

I reinstalled FCS and updated everything & restarted.
But Final Cut Pro quits unexpectedly when I try to open it up.
Has anyone had these issues after uninstalling with FCS remover?
All suggestions most appreciated.

I do understand the reluctance to do a wipe and reinstall.
My aging Ti Powerbook which has been a star running 4.5/6.5.2/10.3.9 was getting very flakey. It had been several years with a lot of upgrades and other software installs/erases.
I finally decided to bite the bullet and install everything from scratch. Herein are X's rules for a happy experience.
° Make a list of all Applications to install. Which ones do you need? Go through your Applications and Utilities folder and note which ones you'll want to reinstall. Note the version.
(I don't know about you, but I had a shocking number of apps I downloaded, used for a few times and never used again. Forget installing these disused apps.)
° If you are upgrading from a PPC to an intel machine, you'll want to know if the apps are UB or PPC. Upgrading your PPC software to UB can be a significant cost in a PPC to intel conversion. Know what you are getting into - do a search before installation to see if there is a UB version available. You can find out whether an app is PPC or UB by looking in System Profiler>Software>Applications. This window will also tell you the current installed version number. .
° In the list, note whether is was a download or you have a disk. If it was a download, find the DMG or installer package and copy it to an external firewire drive. Put it in a folder titled - Apps to be installed - or something easily identifiable.
° If you need to go back to a previous version (e.g. QT 6.5.2) download the dmg file BEFORE you start the installation process.
° In the list, note if the application is a full install or an UPGRADE. If an upgrade, make sure you have the previous version's disks (as well as the serial numbers - see below).
If the UPGRADE version does not require the previous version to be present - e.g. when installing the upgrade version of FCP 6, DO NOT install earlier software. All you'll need is the previous serial number. The way to figure this out is to try to install the newest version. If it needs the previous version present before proceeding, the install process will tell you that.
Some upgrades will require that a version of the previous app is on the disk. If this is the case, when you install the first version, simply install the minimum so the app will be on the hard drive. You will need to do this because there will be NOTHING on the disk after you do your clean erase.
° Referencing your list, find ALL your disks before you start. This includes previous versions if you are unsure whether they will be needed.
° Spend some time looking through this forum for Professional Application installation issues. The classic example is a conflict between Logic and FCP. Install FCP first and you'll have no issues.
° Sort your list into an installation sequence. Lay out your disks in that order.
° Referencing the list, make sure you have ALL your serial numbers including those you've downloaded. I've purchased a number of programs on line and the only documentation of the serial number was an email. All those are kept in a dedicated folder in Mac Mail. For serial numbers that arrived via electronic means, use cut and paste instead of re-typing whenever possible. This will prevent errors in transcription.
In making the list, TEXT EDIT works ok, (I use Excel). Text edit has the benefit of being easily readable on any mac. Print the list out for reference, put a copy on a flash drive or a firewire drive where you can access it to cut and past serial numbers during the installation process.
° Download Carbon Copy Cloner or one of the other backup utilities and do a full backup of your existing system drive to an external firewire drive. Make the drive bootable. *Do not* cheap out on this as this is your insurance policy. If you forget something or can not find a serial number, you often can find it and copy it from the backup system to the newly installed version. Or, if things go horribly wrong, you can simply copy the old system back to your computer and pick up where you left off.
° Recognize this is going to take some time. Ranting, drinking too much coffee, swearing, sitting in front of the computer watching the progress bar, etc will not make things go faster. All it will to is put you in a really bad frame of mind. Do it over a weekend when you can be multitasking. While you are cleaning off the mountains of paper on your desk or raking the yard, you can take regular breaks to check on progress.
Process -
° Once you have gathered and organized all the materials and backed up the drive ...
° Erase the hard drive. Use the ZEROs option as this will map out any bad sectors. This will take time. See the note above.
° Install the OS. If it is an upgrade install, see the note above regarding upgrade installs. Repair Permissions and then run the updates. Repair Permissions.
° Install your applications following your list. Make sure to Repair Permissions after each install and update..
Have fun, be prepared for a few minor glitches. If you multitask, you can get the garage/ or office cleaned out and your computer rebuilt. In all honesty, this process took all weekend plus time in the next week as I discovered apps that needed additional updates, configuration settings, etc. No doubt it would have been faster if I was sitting at the console the whole time, but I was able to get the office cleaned up and organized (which also makes ME much faster). Overall it was a very slick process.
When you have a fully functioning system again, CLONE the new system and put your info, your notes and the disks in a safe place - once you've done this once, why go through the pain of organizing this stuff again ...
Now, rejoice in a much faster machine with a lot more free disk space.

Anyone havign trouble with Facebook shutting down after afew seconds. Loads fine on iPhone 5 but quits after a few seconds.

iPhone 5s. All up to date. Tried deleting Facebook app then reloading. No help. Tried shutting iphone off/on. No help. Tried long reset of iPhone. No help. Tried again reloading Facebook. Still it loads fine but quits after a few sconds. Anoyone else with the problem? Any suggestions? Heelp!!

FCP 4.0 "Unexpectedly quitting" after having computer fixed??

I just got comp back after having it fixed (kept freezing then wouldn't restart after tiger upgrade). They ran diagnostics and blah, blab, blah - and i just got it back. Now I can't start fcp at all. I keep getting a "fcp unexpectedly quit" msg, it offers to give a report which is quite lengthy. Does anybody know what could be happening? I have project on an external hd that I need to access. Would "repairing disc permissions" help anything???

Can't get applications to start-up at all. Repair on computer was basic (i think) I wrote down what they did in a prior post below. I downloaded fcp rescue, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I'm also, not to sure how to use it???? Here's what error report reads after fcp quits:

TS1702 I played HayDay on my iPhone until the app shut down very shortly after loading. Then repeated that all on my iPad with same results, even though I am signing in through the Game Center. Why doesn't the app stay open so I can play this enjoyable

I played HayDay on my iPhone 4 to level 26-29 or so, then it didn't stay loaded when returning to play. Same scenario with iPad at level 26 even when signed in through Game Center. Why does the game quit within a few seconds after loading?

Never mind. I've did a hard reboot no matter how hard I pressed the power button. Thank goodness!!!

After loading Lion 10.7 I'm no longer able to use Quicken 07. Any work around?

After loading Lion 10.7 to my Desk Top, I'm no longer able to use my Quicken 07. Is there a work around? All my financial records are in Quicken 07 or do I need to remove Lion 10.7 from my computer

Quicken is a PPC application. They will not work in Lion because Lion no longer supports Rosetta emulation.
1. You can downgrade to Snow Leopard.
2. You can switch to Quicken Essentials.
3. You can purchase a different application that provides similar services for you. Examples are MoneyDance or MYOB.
Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard. I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.

FCP quits when opening project

Hi all, I have been running FCP 5.1.1 for a while now, never had a problem. Been working on an on-going project that always took a few extra seconds to read and load. Well last night I digitized about 2 more hours of video to the project, did a few edits on the timeline and saved and closed. No problems that I could see. Now today when I go to open the project, I get the "Reading Project" box, and at 43%, FCP just closes, "FCP Quit Unexpectedly". I click "try again", same thing happens. Anybody have any ideas? Is there a limit to how much a project can handle? Thanks!

this is not uncommon behaviour if and when a sorce clip becoms corrupted.
if that is the case, what you can do is disconnect the media drive and then launch FCP. it should open up fine but all the media will be offline.
now you can reconnect the media drive and relink the media, but take care in this last step, relink the media in blocks, making a mental note of which clips you are reconnecting each time ... eventually you will get the error, which tells you that it is one of those last blaock of clips that has become corrupted.
when you discover the corrupt clip you can relink all the others and recapture the corrupted one from source.

I tested this:
Reinstalled Aperture 3.1 from the Trial Installer.
In some way it seems to be working. But the whole thing is a scary Chimera.
It can create an Aperture library. I can import and edit images, even in Graphic Converter ias an external editor.
But the Media Browser does not show the aperture Library that I created.
The versioning is inconsistent. The library appears as an Aperture 3.4 library in the Finder. Aperture 3.5 seems to be able to read this library and to upgrade it to 3.5
The Applications folder is showing the application as version 3.4 and as compatible. Spotlight is showing it as illegal.
When opening the chimera Aperture, I see plenty of warnings in the Console window:
An Aperture "Hang" report
xpcproxy assertion failed
com.apple.IconServiceAgent: main failed to composite image
quicklookd: Warning
and more ... the hang was critical. I had to force quit Aperture more than once.
So be careful. I would not trust any important Aperture library to this patched application, without testing thoroughly. Be careful with your precious photos.

Premiere Pro CS3 now exits after loading

After using premiere pro cs3 for quite a while, all of a sudden it exits after loading. I'm not sure if this is an Adobe problem or a Norton problem or a machine problem. It happened after a power failure, and while I was running premiere at the time, my power backup let me close the file and shut down premiere before it too died.
The computer is working fine with all other programs, including Encore & Photoshop. I just can't run Premiere. The other strange thing is that I can no longer access the Adobe site from that computer. The site starts to load then hangs forever.
I tried re-installing Premiere, no-luck. Then I downloaded the last update to CS3 (on another machine because the Premiere machine won't connect to the site) and tried to install it. No dice. The install hangs forever with "installing" on the screen.
I thought maybe there was an "installer" or "updater" problem, but can't figure it out.
Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply.   I'll try that too.
A suggestion I got over at the DV board was to create a new admin account in XP and try opening premiere under that.   That worked!   Unfortunately, since I created my projects under the old admin file, I don't have access to them under the new one.   I'm copying files to a different folder at this point, but I know Premiere doesn't like that.
If deleting the preference file works, it'd be a lot simpler.

By-the-way, how did you get your screen name to not be your email address?   I can't seem to do it.   I went into my account and changed things, but the forum seems to insist that my screen name is my ID which seems to have to be my email address.

I have MacKeeper and have cleaned and discarded all the garbage.

Remove "MacKeeper" as follows. First, back up all data.
"MacKeeper" is a scam with only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
If you have incompletely removed MacKeeper—for example, by dragging the application to the Trash and emptying—then you'll have to reinstall it and start over.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Reboot.
☞ Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
☞ Don't empty the Trash. Let MacKeeper delete itself.
☞ Don't try to drag the MacKeeper Dock icon to the Trash.

HELP! FCP Quits every time certain project is opened

I capture and render all of my files to an external hard drive. I have been spending the last few months working on a few projects that I am planning to put together in the end. Anyway one of the projects opens up and loads and then unexpected error occurs and FCP quits. Now with my other projects it is not doing this. I am just a little curious as to why this might be happening. And can anyone who reads this tell me where and how they save all of their files?? I know I am in for some trouble if there is anything wrong with my external hard drive.. thanks for your response

It could be a corrupted QuickTime clip. Have you tried moving or renaming the folder containing the media? It will prompt you to reconnect the media and if it crashes then, that's the problem.

FCP quits when making round trip to motion

When I try to make to make the round trip with one or more clips to motion(using "sendto" and with "embed" ticked on), everything seems to work fine, but when I save the motion project and quit motion FCP just quits "unexpectedly".
When I then restart FCP, I can import the saved motion project, but as soon as I try to play it in the viewer, or I drop it in the timeline, FCP quits again...
Any advice ?

The workflow for colorgrade has evolved over the last twenty or so years (in video) and over the last better part of a century in film as the final step, after everything was LOCKED. Its kind of why this application was first named "Final Touch".... well, it was sort of a clever reference to "Final Cut"... but... we know how that worked out.
It would be a bit misleading to conceptualize COLOR as a kind of really fancy 3-way, but the fact remains that as an external application, it creates all new media, independent in most ways from the original sources. We can understand that as an extension of the workflow from the days of linear tape-to-tape, when an entirely new, "Color-Correct" Master was created. Some flexibility can be built in to the return trip with the use of handles... but it can also turn into a whole other can'o'worms. Keyframed stuff can get out of sync.... etc.

Fcp quits on opening, works fine with other user account

fcp quits right after asking where my camera/deck is. it just drops back to finder, with no apology. my backup user account works like a charm.
how do i rectify this? FCP Rescue didn't do it, I'm afraid.

FCP Rescue won't work if you don't have the mail.app in your applications directory...
Do you get any errors on the Console? (/Applications/Utilities/Console)
