FCP 6 Will not open on one Account

This one is strange to me. I have a Mac Book Pro. I use it in teaching my digital film class. Different groups of students use it different periods. Final Cut opens fine on two user accounts, mine, and another classes. However, on one of the accounts FCP 6 opens to the splash screen, gives me the warning that a device is not connected and then just closes.
FCP was opening on that account yesterday, and now it does not. I have reset the Ram for the machine- But am at a loss of even researching this issue.

When FCP runs on one account but not another on the same machine, it is a sure sign of corrupted USER preferences for that application. The best way to deal with the corrupted prefs is to use FCP Rescue (Andy has already provided the link.)
Once you've downloaded the correct version, with FCP not running, open FCP Rescue and TRASH the prefs. When you launch FCP again, you will need to reset things like scratch disks and any other custom user settings.
Once you have things the way you like them, use FCP Rescue to save them. If you have problems again, simply restore the settings and the corrupted ones are overwritten by your saved prefs.

The problem started my Imac G5 (OSX 10.4.7) hung up while I was in Safari; I turned computer off. I have not been able to start Safari in that account since.

Application will not open in my account

Photoshop CS3 will not open from my account. It goes through startup but then prompts 'disk not found'. I called adobe support. They asked me to create a new account from which it worked fine. I repaired permissions, no help. They mentioned that it was probably a corrupt permission, but could offer no help. All other applications open.
They also asked me to download a clean erase from adobe to totally erase Photoshop so I could reinstall. The program would not work.
I don't know if I have addressed all that is needed. Any help is appreciated.

Photoshop CS5 will not open in one of four accounts why

I have an issue with Photoshop not opening in one of my four accounts on my MacPro. I had t change my bootup drive to a larger one. Now, whenever I try to open Photoshop CS5 in my primary standard account it says that it cannot find the scratch disk and so can't launch. This is very strange because it will launch just fine in the Admin and two other Standard accounts. I have checked preferences to make sure that the proper disks are selected. I have deleted both preferences files in my standard account. All to no avail. Can someone shed some light on this issue, please? Thanks.MBJ

The scanner options are to save as JPEG/Exif, TIFF or BMP (with standard, low compression or high compression).
I've just scanned a colour photo and saved it in all three formats (standard compression). All the files now open in PS, with the Camera Raw preview screen (which I've never seen before!).
I've also scanned a black and white drawing, both as a B&W photo and as a B&W document, and saved these scans as TIFFs. Both these now open in PS. The older files that I have not been able to open in PS still do not open. (These files open in MSoft Picture Manager and Quicktime Picture Viewer - though the quality is awful in Picture Viewer.)
It seems to me that whatever was causing the problem might have been 'cured' by some recent software update.
Do you think this is the likely answer? If you'd still be interested to look at one of the rogue files then I could upload one.

Safari hangs/will not open in main account; works ok in guest account

Ever since I downloaded the software update for OS X 10.5.4, Safari hangs and will not open a browser window. However, I created a guest account and Safari opens just fine in that account.

Reader X will not open (non-admin account)

I installed Adobe Reader X on an admin account for the computer. On the non-administrator accounts, Adobe Reader X will not open. There are no error messages or anything - it just will not open in non-admin accounts. Is there a setting I've overlooked to allow other users to access it?

How do you open the Reader on the non-admin account - directly (from the Start menu or desktop shortcut), or by double-clicking a PDF file?
After you do that, can you check with the Task Manager's Processes tab if AcroRd32.exe is running?

FCP 7 will NOT open with my brand new Retina MacBook Pro, any ideas?

I got my brand new retina-display macbook pro in the mail today. I installed Final Cut Studio 3, with dmg file I made from original disk, right serial numbers etc. Upgraded to 7.0.3 through the software update.
Final Cut opened once (which was fine) and I realized I had to install magic bullet looks to keep working on a project I had been working on.
After I did so FCP would not open. Thinking this was the problem, I completely uninstalled all plugins using Red Giants official uninstall app. I also deleted the Boris continuum plugins lots of people say is a problem in Mountain Lion with FCP startup issues.
I then used FCS remover to completely remove the entire suite and restarted, emptied the trash etc for a clean slate.
Upon reinstalling, Final Cut will not open. The startup screen shows up, goes through profiling for RT extreme etc and then closes and the icon disappears from the dock. Everything else opens, motion, compressor, dvd studio pro. Everything is fine except for Final Cut. I have trashed preferences and reinstalled numberous times and triple checked there are no rogue plugins lying around. Nothing seems to work. The only thing I haven't tried is restoring the machine to factory settings and starting from scratch.
This is incredibly frustrating, does anyone have any insight?

Thanks David. I wiped the machine and rinstalled Lion and started from scratch again which was a bummer but worked. I feel like the earlier plugins I installed had something to do with it.

FCP files will not open

I have FCP files that were created by a co-worker. I have them on a jump drive but for some reason they will not open on my computer in FCP. I'm using fcp 5 I'm not sure if my co-worker is using fcp 6. I plan to ask but they are out for the week and i can't get them.

I had that same inclination, however, does that matter when it comes down to raw footage that was just uploaded into a particular version of final cut. I know that if she is using 6 and I'm using 5 then we have a problem, but i was unaware that the hardware would make a difference. Thanks for the response, you have been helpful

Final cut will not open within certain accounts

First post and mac experience limited but I have Final Cut Express HD which worked fine on a suite of standalone imacs. I have just rebuilt them onto a mac network with a local install of FCE. When I logon as admin, FCE will open no problem but when I logon with a standard user network account it will display the splash screen then disappear. However, not all standard accounts have this problem as some users on this mac have no such problem accessing FCE, this seems to rule out a permissions problem. Any help gratefully accepted.

When you say you rebuilt them onto a Mac network, what exactly do you mean? Do you have a Mac running OSX Server (like an xServe) with client users having accounts assigned by Workgroup Manager? ie, they are not logging on to the local machine, they are logging on to their network account? If so, check their permissions in Workgroup Manager, are they allowed to run FCE?
Also, what version of FCE do you have installed.
And is there a separately licensed installation on each client Mac? FCE will not run 'networked' from a server and you cannot have multiple users on the same FCE serial number on a network.

FCP 7 will not open

Any reason FCP 7 Academic would not open on a MacBook after apparently installing as usual from DVDs, legal and all, with appropriate serial numbers, etc.?

There are certain procedures needed to have both FCP-7 and FCP-X installed on the same machine.
Here is Apple's best practices guide:

Look about halfway down the page and you'll see the portion about installing FCP-7 on a machine with FCP-X already there.
Also, I would trash your FCP=7 prefs and see if that helps. It is the usual first step when FCP-7 begins to act unexpectedly.

HNSC and Port number will not open on one farm server, why?

I have a farm with six servers, two app, two wfe, and two cache.
on the app server that the HNSC web application was created on, I am unable to browse to the web app and port url. I believe this is why Search that runs on that server, only, is unable to crawl anything, because it cant navigate to
https://hnsc.beaversoil.com:1001.
on any of the other servers, you can logon and navigate to
https://hnsc.beaversoil.com:10001 no problem

You can navigate to the site on port 443 from any of the servers in the farm, but you can not navigate to the web app and port (hnsc.beaversoil.com:1001) from the app01 server. You can reach that url from the other servers in the farm.
I thought of moving search off APP01 and then disconnecting the app01 server from the farm, to see if would fix on reconnecting it; but, am afraid the issue may reside in the config database. Not sure.
Have tried:
running psconfig
and
rebuilding the hnsc and rejoining the 30 or so hnsc back. Each hnsc has its own db.
Please advise on how I can get it so I can reach hnsc.beaversoil.com:1001 from bvrPsp15app01.beaversoil.com

Im not sure Im doing the telnet correctly, have the host file modified, open telnet as admin, type open bvrpsp15app01.beaversoil.com 1001 press enter
then it says press any key to continue, press any key, then type display
when connecting to app01, just get a bar
when connection to another server, nothing happens after typing display and pressing enter.
I have to get back to this tomorrow, need a break, but thanks in advance for any reply or for next thoughts on this. What about my thought on search

Finder will not open in any account + bizarre behavior

After setting up FileSharing in Mac OS X Server Mountain Lion, I restarted. Now when I log into my account, or any other account I have set up, there are no files on the desktop, the desktop picture is the default, the dock is the default, there is no menubar unless I run an application, and when I click on the Finder I get the error -600 that it cannot open.
I read online that when you get the -600 error that the Finder won't open you can delete the preferences or plist files for the Finder app for that user in the Libraries folder for that user. The thing is that I get this behavior in all accounts and I cannot navigate to the files. I can't navigate to the files in the Finder, because there are no Finder window, menubar or icons to work with.
I am familiar with using Terminal, but for all accounts it puts me in the root directory (/) and I cannot cd into the Users folder to get at the Finder preferences/plist files. It says I do not have permission. When I try "sudo cd Users" and it asks for the password, it does not take the admin password (that works when I log in or change something in the System Preferences).
I also tried booting into Safe mode, but I get the same behavior. Also, I tried resetting the PRAM, same behavior.
Any ideas what is happening or what I could do to get things back to normal?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

On a shared PC, Firefox will not open in both accounts

My wife and I share a PC.
We've always been able to both use Firefox even if one of us has it open when we 'switch users' and the other person opens it.
After an upgrade to 8.0.1 a few days ago, if one of us has Firefox open, then the other person gets the message 'Connection has timed out' and 'Problem loading page' when opening Firefox.
It will open and connect with home pages if the other person closes Firefox.
I've tried downloading the upgrade but it did not make a difference.

Not as far as I'm aware. I am currently connected via Wi-Fi. There is no proxy for my Dial Up connection (which I'm not currently using)

IM box will not open for one person

I have updated my skype but this has been happen to me alot on my desktop PC one person if they send me txt or call me I can't open there IM window, but when I use Skype on my Sony smartphone it works.

Did You find the right pref file to trash ?
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named: com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iDVD.

FCP files will not open after data recovery

We have a TV tech lab in our high school of 15 Apple editing workstations and we archive the completed projects to external firewire drives. Well, wouldn't you know it, one of the drives crashed with all of the previous school years senior projects. The drive would mount, but none of the files were accessible. I sent the drive to a data recovery company and they were successful to a point. They were able to recover the entire drive (about 140 GB). The QT files work fine, but the FCP files are a different story. When I attempt to open an FCP file, I get the error "wrong file type". All of the files do have the correct file extension. Is there anyone out there that has experienced this? Were you able to resolve the problem? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
