FCP 7.0.2 crashing only on one project - fix?
Hi
Every time I open one particular project in FCP 7.0.2 it crashes - all other projects no problem. This crashes when it tries to show the thumbnails on this project's timeline...will trashing com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist fix this? If I trash that will FCP simply make a new com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist ?
Thanks
K
No CMYK images, but all are 1920x1080 24p shot XDcam with SONY EX1R - on a Pro Res timeline - never had problems while editing it a month ago - come back a month later and now whenever it tries to build those thumbnails it crashes after 1 or 2 seconds. There are 2 Core Melt Lock & Load stabilizer effects from a trial version which are now expired, and there are quite a few RedGiant Quick looks effects throughout the 3:44 sequence. Some of the thumbnails and even shots when I park over them in timeline look colored and washed out, like a dark or sometimes colored filter is placed over them, then it crashes.
Just tried again holding option key down while opening this project and still it crashes.

I exported one folder to an external drive. Now ALL my projects in Aperture are gone! WHERE ARE THEY? I've tried to rebuild and repair database. It only shows the one project I had exported because I opened it in Finder back into Aperture. HELP PLEASE!
I found them. Sorry, don't know how to delete post.

Since the os7 update on my iPad, my safari is not right, it only opens one page at a time, crashes when trying to open more, it has no back button. Help
Well, I rebuilt the entire workbook... that was a few months ago and so far, the problem hasn't resurfaced. It really wasn't fun to do, but whatever glitch there was in the file, I eliminated it.
I think I should mention that I am using Office v.X, NOT Office 2004. I got a new Intel iMac this week and yesterday when I opened up my files, it opened up the test drive (a JOKE of a program if you ask me) Anyway, some of the very minor issues I had with Office v.X were solved in the 2004 version. (When opening up large multi worksheet files without Excel being already opened, the tabs have white text) Anyway, I am still going to wait for the universal version to come out, but it seems that the newer versions may have fewer glitches (as is to be expected)
At any rate, best of luck to you! -
Final Cut Pro 7 Crashing on startup for only one project
Hi there,
Been using FCP for years now and have never had this issue.
For some reason FCP keeps crashing when I launch a particular project; just this one project! Others don't seem to have this issue. Sometimes it does get as far as loading all the sequences but as soon I I try a play any it crashes!
Bit stumped really. Any how there's not much more I can say except copying the report below if there's anyone there that can understand this:
By the way it mentions plugins but I don't believe (as far as I know) that I have any 3rd party plugins installed.

I could not decipher the crash report nor could I find anything online that nailed the problem. So I thought I'd ask on Apple Community.
With thanks to Michael; he pointed me in the direction of a nifty application that analyses, fixes and/or recommends actions whenever FCP (and many other pro apps) crashes:
http://www.digitalrebellion.com/promaintenance/
Straight away this application detected the crash and listed possible causes and gave me various options to solve it; these worked a treat!
Anyone experiencing a similar problem I recommend buying this - in fact anyone who uses pro apps I recommend this.
Thanks Michael -
FCP only capturing one channel. what's up with that!?
in FCP 7 while i am logging and capturing HDV footage off of my canon XLH1, only one channel of audio is captured. originally the audio was shot using 2 separate channels, in fact, i can hear both channels playing back (each on their own sound level/they are not mixed) while the capture is happening.. but when i'm done, FCP has only captured one of the channels.
how can i resolve this problem?in my capture bin, after i've captured the clip, it shows that only one audio clip was captured. when i drag it into the timeline, only one audio channel is present.
my lost channel was on a wireless mic, as was the saved channel.
fcp is only capturing one channel even when i log other tapes that did not have separated audio channels.
i'm guessing there is some setting that is now off while i capture, because it used to capture audio just fine last week. -
Airplay mirroring is taking very long to load and is only showing one static view then it crashes
airplay mirroring is taking very long to load and is only showing one static view then it crashes.
I am tring to mirror ipad2. I just upgraded to IOS5. Is it an apple TV problem or an Ipad2 problem?
What should I try to fix the problem?I think i found the solution. I got mine working.
Reboot the iPad by holding down the Home button and power button at the same time for 6 seconds. The screen will turn black, apple logo will appear, and it will restart.
Then restart the Apple TV. (I just unplugged the power)
Then restart your wireless router. (again, I just pulled the plug on it)
After doing that, i tried the mirroring again, and it worked great. As soon as I turned it on, it appeared on my TV and is working very quickly. (well, everything I do on the iPad is delayed on the TV by half a second) -
Palm Desktop crashes when viewing one month in monthly view
Hi--this is a weird problem. Never seen it before.
--My Treo 680 (Win XP SP3), with Palm Desktop 6.2.2 seems to sync fine. I make changes in the Treo, it appears on the desktop.
--Also, I can view and edit the desktop in DAY view.
I normally default to monthly view though--and when I try to edit anything in a monthly view the Palm Desktop immediately crashes. This also seems to happen only with one month--July--where I recently added a lot of new appointments.
I ran the "check" tool for corrupted records, came up clean.
The data seems to be there and be safe and sync, but every time I try to access this one month from monthly view--it crashes.
Any advice, suggestions?
Post relates to: Treo 680 (Unlocked GSM)Your link generated an error message..but I did find a couple of relevant threads. Thanks..
--I have no appointments spanning midnight, so I presume that's not the problem
--I'm reluctant to downgrade versions. I use the same software on my Vista laptop as on my XP desktop and I'd like to confuse the issue or go through degrading both.
The dbfix program was more interesting. It found for Calendar: one appointment in several places that it said "blob goes beyond end of record."
I don't know what that means, but it was particularly odd as this particular appointment was repeated in multiple years as long ago as 1969, it said--which goes beyond the ability of the desktop software even to access; certainly I wasn't using a Palm in 1969, and obviously it didn't exist. So I deleted all of them but for that 1969 one since the desktop will only go back to Jan 1970.
After deleting what I could delete on the desktop, I sync'd.
Didn't help.
I ran the program again and the exact same older--presumbably fictitious-appointments from old years like 2007 were still coming up as checked errors. Hmmm. Apparently deleting them on the desktop helped not at all. So now I deleted one on the 680 as a test.
I sync'd. Immediately crashed the Palm, but when it came came back up. I doublechecekd--that 2007 record was now gone from everything, desktop and PDA. I syncd again,,,went through fine this time.
Ran dbfix again to check--just coming with that one 1969 inexplicable error. Ran Palm Desktop now. Ran the Options/Tools/Check record on the desktop (included utility) just to be sure--no errors.
The final test--running Palm Desktop back in monthly view. Immediately crashed again.
Shrug!
Now, I don't mind buying the dbfix program if that'll do it, but does this seem like something it needs to go through and might actually fix, as opposed to my manually deleting the things? -
Finder only shows one application at a time...
Hi all,
Hopefully someone can shed light on my dilemma.
After a system crash today I'm having problems in the Finder.
I can only have one application visible on screen at a time.
When I click the Desktop the Finder and any windows there come forward and the previous application is hidden.
If I'm in Safari and click the iCal icon in the Dock iCal comes forward and Safari is hidden.
Icons on the desktop are visible at all times and can be clicked / opened etc.
The only way to have other app windows on screen is to go to the Application Menu and choose "Show All". Clicking a window in another application hides everything again.
Hide "App Name" / Hide Others are both greyed out and I can't use Cmd-H to hide an app either.
I've deleted prefs for everything I can think of (Desktop, Dock, Finder) and opened most com.apple. prefs up to find a flag that's been tripped somewhere but to no avail.
It's acting like the old Mac OS where you could have this as an option in the General Settings Control Panel (from memory...)
Safe Boot didn't help whilst logging into my other users show none of the symptoms. Obviously It's something in my log in that is causing the problem but I don't know where else to look!
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Michael

Only opening one program at a time?
I was wondering if there is a way to restrict a program so that only
one instance can be opened at a time. I have two pieces of motion
control software that control the same piece of equiptment (one is for
maintenance and one is for normal operation). I would like to
make sure that only one of the programs can be opened at a time.
I thought of putting them into a single program with a tab structure,
but that suggests that you can switch between the tab, and I don't want
to allow that. I also thought of having a pop-up when the program
first launches that askes which program you want to run, that way you
can only choose one or the other. But you could still open
two instances of that application, one of each.
The only thing I can think to do would be to use a global variable as a
flag and only allow the program to launch if the flag is off.
However if the program crashed and didn't exit properly the global flag
would be left on and the program wouldn't start.
Does anyone know if there is a good way to do this in LabView?
Thanks,
KaseyYou're welcome. I first used tabs in LV 6.1, before subpanels were available. I didn't want to run subVIs as popups, as a rule. The filetab was a good solution. The selected page obscures front-panel objects on the other pages, so each page is like a separate screen. I labeled the pages according to function, and the user could switch pages accordingly. Switching tab pages is easier than clicking a button on the main VI's front panel to pop up a VI enabling one function; then clicking "End" to disable; selecting another button on main VI's FP for another popup VI; etc.
But there were certain things I wanted to do without interruption (hardware interactions), so I disabled all pages but the active page as long as the critical task was ongoing. Also, I would disable certain controls even on the active page ("Start" button was disabled until the test was over, etc.). I don't think that strategy violates the spirit of the filetab.
The only trouble was that most of the pages had complicated functionality, so many of them had clusters full of option buttons. User would click one, I'd have to hide the option menu, show a bunch of other controls, etc. Straightforward but tedious. Subpanels make that kind of thing easier, because the VI running in the subpanel is responsible for its own front-panel display. And different people can develop different subpanel VIs at the same time, without too many problems merging.
Anyway, I'm glad your problem is solved. I just tried to run two instances of an LV 7 application under Windows 2000 and I couldn't. So that's good to know.

Intel Xserves Crash only on weekends
We have 10 Intel XServes that we received in early December. For some reason anywhere between 2-6 of the 10 crash and become unresponsive, only on the weekends, usually Saturdays. Very odd.
I've been checking them every weekend since we've purchased them and it has been consistent for the last 5+ weeks. They crash only on weekends.
I found this in the crashreporter log on one of the servers, they all have similar logs:
Sat Dec 23 14:28:50 2006 crashdump[120]: crashdump invoked as panicdump

Does anyone have any ideas? What other logs should I be checking?
Quad G5s, Intel XServes Mac OS X (10.4.8) Xsans, XServe RAIDs, oh my...The "drone" is our encoding software. That may be the cause, but i'm not entirely sure of course.

ASM disk busy 99% only on one cluster node
Hello,
We have a three node Oracle RAC cluster. Our dba(s) called us and said they are getting OEM critical alers for an asm disk on one node only. I checked and the SAN attached drive does not show the same high utilization on either of the other two nodes. I checked the hardware and it seems fine. If the issue was with the SAN attached disk, we would be seeing the same errors on all three nodes since they share the same disks. The system crashed last week(alert dump in the +asm directories), and at the disk has been busy ever since. I asked if the dba reviewed the ADDM reports and he said he had and that there were no suspicious looking entries that would lead us to the root cause based on those reports. CPU utilization is fine. I am not sure where to look at this point and any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. They do use RMAN, could there be a backup running using those disks only on one node? Has anyone ever seen this before?
Thank you,
Benita Ulisano

[email protected]Hi Harish,
Thank you for responding. To answer your question, yes, the disks are all of the same spec and are shared among the three cluster node. The asm disk sdw1 is the one with the issue.

FCP 5.1.1 crashes on launch, in the middle, anytime, all the time
OK. I zero erase my hard drive, reinstall everything from scratch and FCP is still not working. In one account doesn's even open, I erase all the preferences etc etc and crashes, symptom?, the viewer is green. Next time I try to open it, it crashes right after it asks for the camera that's not connected.
On the other account FCP works good for 30 to 35 minutes and crashes without a warning.
I'm using an iMac 20 inches, 2 Ghzt, 2 GB of Ram, Ati Raedon 256mb, Mac OSX 10.4.7 and FCP 5.1.1
Since it's a new machine and it's also crashing sometimes when I change users (I trully beleive that deceiving commercial, actually, my PC, the fat nerd looking one, never crashes, but my shinny new iMac does it all the time) , could it be a defective piece of sh..., I mean, hardware?Well, I finally found the culprit. It was Pro Tools and MBox 2 all the way. I ran all kind of tests (AHT and Rember, which I left running for several hours) and they didn't found anything wrong with the hardware. So I reinstalled the OS (at this point one more afternoon wasted makes no difference) disconnect everything (Firewire drives, USB hub, etc.) and start adding programs and peripherals one by one and testing them. For a week I had no problems, zero crashes and FCP was working perfectly. Finally I installed Pro Tools and the MBox 2 and start to use it as the audio device for FCP (since I needed a better audio monitoring), and again, the crashes began. Funny thing it's that I don't need to have the MBox acting as the audio device, it's enough to have it connected to the computer to crash any program (Safari, iTunes, Skype, etc.). Luckily this time I can disconnect the MBox, restart the computer (and leave the MBox disconnected, of course) and everything works fine again. Before it didn't matter if the MBox was or wasn't connected to the computer, so for that I though it could be the iMac... sorry, iMac, it wasn’t your fault.
Well, it's good to know that's nothing wrong with my computer and that it’s definitely not a PC (when the MBox and Digidesign are away, that is, so maybe it is a problem with the iMac usb ports). The sad thing is to get yet another confirmation of the incredible ineptitude of the guys at Digidesign. I just don't understand why people (studios, I mean) can use such poor software and hardware. But well, that’s enough complaining for now. If someone can think of a solution (in the meantime I just spend too much time so I can’t return the MBox to the store, so I’m thinking for new uses for it, like keeping my window open or raising the monitor) I would be very thankful. And for the record, the guys in Digidesign, although very nice, just have no clue. -
Sequence only has one channel of sound
I have a few sequences that I have added to a master sequence and only have one channel of sound in the master sequence.
In the actual sequence of each sequence that was added I have 2 channels of sound.
What would correct this issue?
Or does cut and paste everything in each sequence into my master sequence work better?
Davidre: the decklink comment - that was directed to the thread jacker ... lol.
re: cloned system drives. Updating does not create a clone automatically. It is something you have to do. In the interest of locking the barn door after the paddle has been lost upstream - get a firewire drive as large as your system drive. Download a copy of Carbon Copy Cloner (shareware) and when your system gets working again, Clone the working drive to the firewire drive. This is your insurance when you update the OS, QT and/or any of the FCS pro apps.
Once you have a clone, if your update goes wrong, you can copy the clone back over the bunged installation and be back up and running within an hour or so.
Regarding FCP 6.0.4, perhaps someone archived a version (or you can find it on the FCP updates page). If you use Software update, it will want to install the most recent version.

I made a purchase of a TV show from iTunes on my iPad. I only have one Apple ID/iTunes account. I synced my iPad to my computer (Win 7, iTunes 10.6.1.7) and the TV show was synced from my iPad to my computer. But when I go to watch the video on my computer, I get the first message below that says I need to authorize this computer - weird because this is the only file in my iTunes library that is prompting this message - anyway, I type in my Apple ID and password and get the second message. I go to play the video and I get the first message again.
I followed the instructions from http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389, which did not solve my problem.
Any thoughts? You seem to be mixing up two different things, authorisations and linking an iPod with a library.
1) iTunes Store authorisations
If your system crashes or you reinstall your operating system without deauthorising iTunes first, even a single computer can use up your limit of 5 authorisations. You can't deauthorise a "dead" installation on it's own. However once you reach your limit of 5 you have the option to deauthorise them all in one go from your iTunes Store account and start over again. Just note that you can only use this option once a year: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation
2) Syncing an iPod with an iTunes Library
If an iPod set to update automatically and you connect to a new computer or new library (made after you lost the original one) you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc. If you have rebuilt your library and everything that is on the iPod is also in iTunes pressing "Erase and Sync" will reload and relink the iPod to iTunes. If the iPod has content on it that isn't in iTunes press "Cancel". -
Safari stalls, but only on one user account
I am having a problem with web browsers, but only on one particular user account. Safari will usually (>90% of the time) stall after the blue bar loads 1/4 to 1/3 of the way. It will hang permanently and never complete loading the page. This happens primarily when I click on a link in any web page. I can sometimes (<25% of the time) go to a page by typing the URL in the address bar. This happens with any browser (Safari, Thunderbird, Google Chrome) with this user account. On all other user accounts, all web browsers work normally. The user account that is giving me trouble is the one with all of our photos, documents, etc., so would prefer not to simply delete this account and create a new one.
I have already tried emptying the cache, disabling the cache, restarting the computer, updating to the latest version of OS X, clearing history and website data, etc.
I have a mid-2011 iMac 12,1 with 2.7 GHz Intel core i5 processor and 20 GB of memory. I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 and Safari 8.0.4. I have a 1 TB hard drive with 630 GB available.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Results from Administrator account (note: Safari and other web browsers work fine on this account)
