Fcp 7.0.3 capture in SD from miniDV is choppy

All videos play smoothly in the capture window but capture choppy. Now, my settings for capture are correct, frame rate is correct, I don't abort on dropped frames, etc. I've tested ftg. that I shot in the past and captures succesfully and it now captures choppy.

Wonder if it's some sort of weird remove pulldown issue. If you're playing the dv tape off a deck or camera, you can usually display frame rate etc by monitoring on a video monitor or the lcd screen on the camera. What does it say the frame rate is?

When I connect my Sony HDR-HC3 miniDV HDV camcorder to my iMac via firewire cable and use Final Cut Express to capture the video from the tape, I do not get a Capture window that allows me to specify in and out points, I just get a playback window that immediately starts capturing and the only option I have in this window is hit ESC to stop capturing. If I let this capture window continue to capture the video from the camera with miniDV HD tape, then the entire tape would be captured as one massive single video clip.
QUESTION: Is there something I change or do to make the proper capture window appear where I can specify in and out points to capture from tape for each clip?
NOTE: using same camera and tape with iMovie with automatic capture enabled, all the clips get captured properly. I also tried to use the manual setting in iMovie and it worked too.

I have a several miniDV tapes containing HD video created on a Sony Sony HDR-HC5 and Sony HDR-HC7. Unfortunately, both these camera were stolen, and I have since moved to a camera that uses flash memory, not tape. However, I need to get the video footage off these tapes, so I bought a used Sony HDR-HC3, it plays the HD miniDV tapes just fine and iMovie reads the video from this camera just fine, but Final Cut Express does not.
When I setup Final Cut Express, I used the Easy Setup and specified:
Format: HD
Rate: 29.97 fps
Use: HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60
These setting match those of the camera and recorded tape. If I use any other settings but these, then Final Cut Express never sees the camera and never opens any capture window at all. Using Quicktime 10 movie inspector on the clips captured by iMovie from same camera, all the clips match this setting too.

My Final Cut Express scratch disk is a Seagate 2TB external USB 2.0 Hard Drive that has been formatted to be Mac OS Extended (Journaled). This external disk is also where iMovie successfully captured all the video from the same camera.

Thanks for the answer. It makes me sad. I thought using Final Cut Express would be an upgrade to a more robust editing system from iMovie, yet iMovie does a superior job of logging and capturing video from HDV video on miniDV tape in comparison to FCE. Not only does iMovie capture each clip on the tape into it's own video file automatically, it also includes timestamp information in the filename indicating when the clip was originally recorded, which appears to be something that is missing from Final Cut Express. Now I realize that HDV miniDV cameras had a relatively short life span in the consumer marketplace and have since all been replaced by flash and hard drive based AVCHD cameras, but from circa 2004 to 2007, miniDV HDV camcorders were very popular and I am sure there are lots of consumers that must be super frustrated by Final Cut Express limited ability to log and capture clips properly from these cameras.
Assuming I do not want to make a rough cut of video in iMovie and prefer to begin my editing project in Final Cut Express (not doing XML export of iMovie project), I need to determine the best way to get clips captured via iMovie into Final Cut Express and determine if there is anything inferior in the iMovie captured clips that I need to be aware of. So far it appears that both iMovie and Final Cut Express reduce the 5.1 surround sound captured on the HDV miniDV tapes to stereo sound, which is not a big lose given the 5.1 sound was recorded from camera's built-in microphone, but it makes me wonder if the video is reduced in any way by the iMovie import process, examining the video in quicktime's inspector window the video appears to be the same in both iMovie and FCE, but I'll research the answers to these questions elsewhere on this forum and post additional questions if I do not find the information I need.

Capturing raw audio from MiniDV tape

I am relatively new to the Mac. I would like to extract the stereo audio from some Sony MiniDV tapes in the most economical way possible. If it can be done in iMovie or Garageband, I haven't been able to figure it out. I want to get to MP3 (or similar) as an end state, but I am starting with .DV files. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

iMovie '08 may not support this, but iMovie 6 does (and is a free download for '08 users). Add your footage to the timeline, select them, then pick extract audio. iMovie will make an audio only copy of the footage and the files are stored in the project's media folder (right click the project and pick "show package contents" to see the folder structure.

FCP X will import into separate clips every time it detects a scene change (as when you stopped and started recording in the camera). There is no option to avoid this, as far as I known.
You may try importing from camera using Quicktime Player X and then bringing the imported file into FCP X.

Capturing 1080p 24p from p2

I have received a drive with footage that was shot on the Panasonic HVX200 with P2 cards. After speaking with the DP, the format of the footage is DVCPro HD 1080p 24p (not 24pa). After performing the Log and Transfer, when I look at the clip I see 3 progressive frames, then 1 interlaced frame (repeats).
Page 66 of the manual for working with FCP & HD video indicates
To remove standard 3:2 (2:3:2:3) pulldown from 1080p24 footage, you need to
capture the footage as 1080i60 (29.97 fps) and then use Cinema Tools to remove
the pulldown.
Page 100 indicates:
The Import Panasonic P2 window cannot remove standard 3:2 pulldown.
To convert footage with 3:2 pulldown, you can ingest the media at 29.97 fps and
then use Cinema Tools to remove the pulldown.
Page 103 indicates:
Use Remove Advanced Pulldown command in Final Cut Pro or Cinema Tools after capture or ingest.
I am familiar with Cinema Tools, and have performed the conform process before with footage from the HVX100 in Standard Definition with no problem. However, when I attempted to remove the pulldown in cinema tools, the footage appears unaffected even though the frame rate is now 23.98.
I read in another manual "Workflow for Final Cut Pro and the Panasonic AG-HVX200"
that 1080p 24 is Not supported at this time.
Has anyone had success capturing 1080p 24p from a p2 card and then removing the pulldown to get 23.98 with progressive frames?

Just to make sure, since you mentioned advanced pulldown. You should be removing regular pulldown, not advanced pulldown. Also, conform is for files that are already progressive. What you want is reverse telecine. Try doing a batch reverse telecine on a few clips. I've had problems in the distant past doing it on single clips because I wasn't starting with an A frame.

FCP 7 will not capture 1920x1080p with Prores 4444

Normally when I capture 1080p material from our Sony HDCAM, I capture with Prores HQ, but since upgrading to FCP 7 I wanted to try the new Prores 4444 to see how much better it is and how big the files created are. But, no matter what I do when capturing the file ends up being only 960x540. All settings are 1920x1080p. What is wrong. Is it a bug?
I use Blackmagic HD capture cards.

Hmmm, I seem to remember reading similar reports about this somewhere ... will try to find them and post a link. In the meantime make sure you are running FCP 7 compatible drivers for your BMD card.

Hi iMac User:
Yes-you can save a single frame from iMovie by selecting the File-->Save Frame As option. From there it will ask you where and in what format you want to save it.
Just be aware that the quality won't be perfect because it is taken from a video clip.

How can I capture film clips from my Canon FS200 camcorder into my computer?

I've captured film clips from my Canon FS200 camcorder before so you can understand how frustrated I now feel not being able to do it today. I have just one 30-second clip on the memory card. It plays on my camcorder but I cannot transfer the clip to my computer.
I have an HP desktop computer that's two years old with plenty of hard drive space. I've tried capturing using the memory card inserted into the computer and I've tried using the USB2.0 port. Nothing works anymore. I used to capture with ease using Windows Movie Maker or Photo Gallery.
In the past when the capture was successful I would import the clips into Magix Edit Pro 16 for editing. I could never capture directly into this program though. I hope someone can help me out.

In Windows Movie Maker and Photo Gallery I click on Import From Device or Import Photos and Videos. A box appears but it is empty. The message above the box is, "if you do not see your device..." click Refresh. Refresh doesn't do it.
When I try to import with Magix Edit Pro 16 (a German video editing program) I get the message: "Magix could not connect to selected device."
I have run out of options. I don't know what else to do. This Friday I'm going to do some filming at a ballroom dance but I'm pessimistic about being able to capture the raw video to my computer.
This is an edit later in the day. Now I can capture into Photo Gallery and then into Windows Movie Maker or Magix. But I can only do this with the USB 2.0 connection. When I put the memory card into the computer slot, nothing happens. It used to work. Anyway, I'm glad I can finally do some practice editing again. I'm just in the learning stage with anything graphic.

Get the entered value from the jsp into servlet using request.getParameter("enteredTableName"). it will return the String,pass this table name to execute query using JDBC connection and statement objects.

Capture of synonyms from existing online oracle9i database

I am a newbee in oracle designer .I need to Design capture the ERP application into designer repository.The story goes like this ::
I am in a scenario where an ERP Application is running but without any documentation and configuration control.The Application is developed using Oracle10g Forms developer and reports,with backend oracle9i.The application and so database contains a lot of user schemas corresponding to the functional departments of organisation like finance , inventory.
I have successfully Installed the repository (version control option enabled) on our online database('oratest') and created a repository owner 'desg',with DBA Priveleges.
I have also created a database definition named 'oratest1' and a user named 'desg1' in the design editor's[b] System folder..
I tried to capture the schemas in following sequence (using the option - Generate/Capture designof/servermodel). ::
a. Login as Desg , Owner = sys-- Captured all tablespaces
b. Login as Desg , Owner = desg-- Tried capturing designer objects but was not very successful
c. Login as Desg , Owner = sys-- Tried capturing all sys objects , It took a lot of time with error and warnings and I was only able to capture some tables and views.I also tried with owner = 'System'.
d Login as Desg , Owner = sys-- Captured all users from oratest to oratest1(errors displayed 'Invalid grants ')
e. Login as Desg , Owner = sys-- Captured all roles from oratest to oratest1(errors displayed 'Invalid grants to user objects')
f. Login as Desg , Owner = User schema1(say inventory) -- tried to capture relational tables,views,functions,procedures etc. A lot of errors saying that invalid references to objects i.e referenced objects not present in the repository.
g. Noted down all dependencies using the DBA Views to user schema1 and captured corresponding objects from database into corresponding users in the repository.
h. Login as Desg , Owner = User schema1(say inventory) -- Again tried to capture objects of this schema.It gives error that ' Cannot capture synonyms with same name as objects name, either recreate or make all of them public'.
Following are my queries for which I need all your expert help::
1. First of all ,is the sequence in procedure above alright ?.Is it necessary to capture 'SYS' , 'SYSTEM' Objects ..What if I have already done so,will it cause damage? If so is it is possible to remove them from repository automatically?.I captured since the user schemas refer to these objects at several places.
2. Is it required to capture different User Schemas into different containers or just a single container ? If it is required to capture in different containers , how will tablespaces,users and roles already captured into system folder refer to objects in these containers.
3.Regarding problem of grants : When are the 'grants' be captured,before the capturing the objects or after them or anytime.Is it required to capture grants via a DDL file . Will a text file generated by export grants option in 'Toad' tool will do the job?.
4. Regarding Problem of capture of synonyms :: In most of user schemas , the private synonym has same name as the object which it refers.Hence designer is unable to capture the synonyms.If we make Synonyms public for a user schema than what about other schemas?. Secondly how to capture synonyms independently.Is it via a DDL File.Where in the design editor can we see the captured Synonyms?.How Shall we capture Public synonyms of our ERP application.
5.In the server mode tab, under relational table definition,I can see all the mixture of user tables and sys tables.How can we isolate the tables as per user schemas and generate Server model Diagrams for individual schemas.
Please help to resolve these Issues.

I am successful in capturing all other objects of the schema.
Before Your reply and before capturing other objects, I tried to capture the private synonyms by first creating a ddl file and than modifying the SQL 's 'create synonym' statements to 'create public synonym', and than captured the public synonyms into the repository via design editor. In short I captured the private synonyms as public into the repository.It gave 0 error and 0 warnings.
But where in the navigator pane can i see the captured synonyms. I cannot see any of them, so iam not sure whether they are captured or not.
After this when I captured other objects , they were captured successfully without any errors.

iChat will set up a Video chat window that takes in to account your Processor speed and Internet Speed and to some extent the Buddy's speed.
This then denotes the pixel content of each frame.
OS X 10.6.x tells me this is iChat 5 which in turn mean you have at least an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor.
This should be capable of 30 frames a sec at about 640 X 480 pixels (Check the Connection Doctor (Video Menu) and the Statistics tab during a Chat).
iChat 5 cannot do HD (Max of 4:3 ratio at the above figures)
After that it depends how you are recording the chat.
Quicktime X would do it.
iChat will do it itself (if the Buddy agrees)

Sysprep and capture has *Three* steps.
1. Run sysprep on the local machine (easy).
2. Copy WinPE down to the local machine so we can reboot into winpe for capture.
3. Capture the drive in an *offline* state from within WinPE.
What is most likely happening is that you are having problems with step #2. 100MB is *WAY* too small to copy down WinPE. By default MDT will make this System partition much bigger, 499MB. IF you install Windows 7 from the default media. IT will only create
a 100MB partition.
By default MDT 2012 Update 1 and greater *should* recover to a fallback drive with the OS on it, however if you are running older versions that might not happen correctly.
If you are still having problems, copy your BDD.log file to a public share like OneDrive and copy the link here.

I was using a GEVEY sim unlock with iOS 4.1 since (almost) last 2 yrs now in India on Vodafone. But as Apple designed it, there were several apps including Whatsapp, Facebook, Gmail and LinkedIn that stopped functioning due to the iOS updates and the subsequent (I guess 'mandatory' App updates). Finally yesterday I thought of updating to the iOS 6. As soon as I did that, I have been left with no choice but to see the above message.
The process by jhidrowoh starts corectly but iTunes doesnt give you the option of restore only ... it is forcefully clubbed with update and the button that is displayed in the dialog box that appears on pressing 'Restore' in teh recovery mode, shows 'Restore and Update' and as soon as the iPhone is restored, it automatically updates the iOS as well to iOS 6 and hence leaves you hanging in the stale situation.
Guys ... Need the data desperately ... Can anybody please help???

Capture Pictures/Images from Video

I am just getting warmed up in these forums here. I wanted to know if you could capture still images from video clips and if they are Kodak clear. I have a couple of family videos that I would like to have pictures taken from and framed. Does anybody know much about this?
