FCP 7.0.3 Easy Setup audio setting issues

I have created two custom Easy Setups.
SD:     DVCPro50 PAL with audio set @ 48.000 kHz, 16-bit, 16 chan
HD:     DVCProHD 1080i 25fps with audio set @ 48.000kHz, 24-bit, 16 chan
I open FCP, load the SD easy setup.  I then click on Audio/Video settings.
Select "Audio/Video Settings" and view "Capture Presets Summary"
     - Audio format is listed as 48.000 kHz 16-bit 16-chan
Select"Edit" and "Capture Preset Editor" comes up.
     - UnderQuicktime Audio Settings:
          - Device:  AJA Kona 3
          - Format:  48.000 kHz 16-bit 16-chan
If I then select the HD Easy Setup, and then "Audio/Video Settings"
Select"Edit" and "Capture Preset Editor" comes up.
     - UnderQuicktime Audio Settings:
          - Device:  AJA Kona 3
          - Format:  48.000 kHz 16-bit 16-chan (THIS SHOULD BE 24-bit)
Select the "A\V Device" tab:
The audio device has defaulted to the 16 bit setting as well.
It appears that FCP or AJA is keeping the audio bitrate from the previous Easy Setup.
Even if we close FCP completely, and reopen into a new project, load the HD Easy Setup, the bit rate still shows as 16.
I have tried deleting the following:
apple.finalcutpro.plist
Final Cut User Data Folder
Thanks,
Mike

The camera definitely recorded in SP, that icon was visible on the viewfinder...
What settings should i be using in FCP to capture the video? From attempted research i found most comments suggesting to use a basic Firewire settings. i have used this in PAL format but the results are poor.
One thing I am confused about is the 32khz or 48khz settings. Which should i be using? I have an older version of FCE 4 where there are many settings for both 32khz and 48khz for DV FireWire but in FCP7 there are only options for 48khz.
Any advice would be welcomed at the moment.
I am also willing to upload clips of what I have to demonstrate visually the poor quality video I am capturing from the Canon

  • No "DV-PAL 32kHz" Setting In FCP's Easy Setup ?

I have just noticed, that unlike Final Cut Express, Final Cut Pro does not have an Easy Setup for DV audio shot at 12Bit (32kHz).
It is not a problem to me as I never use that setting but I am curious.
Is it simply omitted because no sane user of FCP would choose to shoot 12Bit audio ?
    Ian.

Thanks Piero, Links and Studio X.
As you may have guessed, I eventually more or less worked out most of it myself and discovered that Custom Settings were probably the solution.
I originally noticed the lack of the setting when I was answering a question on the FCE forum. I needed the exact wording for the 32kHz Easy Setup and happened to look in FCP only to discover it wasn't there!
Later, when looking at custom setups, I noticed there was no 12-bit option so the information from Studio X is interesting.
Piero, I have a confession! Though I have Tom's and Lisa's books on FCP, I never thought of looking in the Help manual! I must make a point of looking there first in future.
Anyway, I now know all that I need about 32kHz even though I will never use it!
    Ian.

  • Changing audio pre-sets (i.e. not using easy setup)

Easy setup (DV-NTSC anamorphic) is forcing me to use a 48 hz audio preset and I did not record my video in this setting. How do I change it to 12 hz (I always re-do the audio later, but while capturing, warning window is annoying.)

I did not have all the options clicked. When I did this, the right option popped up.

  • FCP 7.02 and ProRes Easy Setups

    Hi
My issue is that none of the Apple Pro Res Easy Setups that were installed during setup in my Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Custom Settings folder show up in the list of available Easy Setups in the application.
If I go through the motions of creating a new Easy Set up (combining Sequence Preset, Capture Preset etc in the Audio Video Settings) it saves to the same folder and appears in the list. But none of the ProRes setups do. It's long list too ... and I need many of them (University Media Lab), so having to rebuild them all will take ages...
It's important for my students to go through the motions of selecting an appropriate Easy Set up so that they don't get presented with the option of adjusting a sequence setting which was created by virtue of having an incorrect Easy Setup for the type of footage they are importing. A lot of the time they choose badly!
I can't figure out why these Easy Set Ups don't show up ...
Yes, I've restarted, reinstalled on another machine, checked the manual and so on...
Does anyone have any ideas? Does anyone else see a list of 100 or so ProRes Setups?
    Thanks
    Lee

In easy setup you limit the list with the use and rate popups.
Well yes, but here If I select "ALL" for Format and Rate I can't see any ProRes Setups in the main list.
If I specifically choose "Apple ProRes 422 " in the Format field the Use and Rate drops downs grey out and I get a 23.98/ 1440 x 1080 R\ProRes set up.
Seeing as there are dozens of ProRes 422 / 444 / LT/ HQ / Proxy setups in the Custom Settings folder (or in the "Application/Additional Easy Setups" depending on install options) I don't understand why I can't see them.
True... FCP will conform a Sequence to the correct specs if I drop a ProRes Proxy file into a ProRes 422 HQ sequence .... but it's hardly confidence inspiring. I much prefer to set things up properly from the get go.
Looks as if I'll have to build my own ProRes Variations ....???
    Thanks

  • Easy Setup and Audio Video Settings (FCP7)

    Hello,
I am a newbie editor in fcp 7. in fact, I´m newbie on pos production. I´ve been working and editing less than a year (Premiere Pro)
Now I am using FCP7 (and FCPX) but my question is...in fcp7, why do I need Audio/Video Settings and Easy Setup if
final cut has open format sequences?
    thx

Well, strictly speaking on FCP 7 and earlier (since this particular forum is for older FCP...not FCX)...yes, you do.  You need to choose the Easy Setup that matches the footage you are using.  If you have multiple formats, try to convert the footage to a single format.  Don't belive this Apple marketting about "open format sequences."
There are some exceptions...like you can have ProRes footage, and a ProRes sequence...and also edit in HDV or XDCAM footage in that. IN fact, it's best to edit HDV and XDCAM as ProRes.  Don't have an XDCAM sequence setting and edit ProRes into that...XDCAM is inferior to ProRes.
Also...don't edit may formats natively.  Meaning H.264, MP4, AVCHD...there are many formats that FCP just doesn't work with properly. FCX will even ask to "optimize" the media...meaning convert to ProRes.  FCP 7 is a different beast than Adobe Premiere Pro. PPro will allow you to edit formats natively...it's designed to do that. FCP 7 is not....and that's a pretty important difference to know. FCP 7 wants media to be in FCP editing codecs before you start...such as ProRes.

  • DVD capturing - What setting on Easy Setup?

    Hello,
I'm caputuring video from my DVD player which is : connected RCA to a Canopus converter box : out firewire and into the Macbook.
When I capture the video, I get the message saying "Audio/Video rate may not match sample..." after I'm finished capturing.
I have no idea which setting in Easy Setup to choose from.
It is currently set at: DV - NTSC 32 kHz
    Any suggestions?

If you are capturing via a box like the Canopus ADVC-110 (any model, actually), you should use the DV NTSC DV Converter easy setup. (Assuming you're in the US, that is.) Select this easy setup BEFORE you create a new sequence and/or try to capture anything from the Canopus. Also make sure that the Canopus box itself is set for NTSC, not PAL.
You should NOT use the DV NTSC 32KHz easy setup.

  • Shot in 60i on a DVX100B, FCP easy setup?

Hi, I have been using a Panasonic DVX100B (NTSC) in 24PA mode and capturing/editing in FCP, I'm very happy, not too much trouble.
now I have tried to shoot in 60i mode (scene 1), I cannot find an easy setup preset....
1: What's the best capture setting for this?
2: Should I set my sequence to the same as Q1?
3: This footage will be going to my website as either a QT movie or Flash so am I doing the correct thing shooting in 60i?
4: If I do eventually send this to DVD is it still wise to use 60i?
I have tried to duplicate a preset and choose a frame rate of 60, but I'm not 100% this is correct because as soon as I try to log and capture it says it dropped frames, it won't even capture anything.
This will probably be the first of many posts as I'm trying to take in as much info as possible, but it's not sticking... LOL
    Thanks
    C.

    DV/NTSC 29.97. 60i just means 60 interlaced fields...which works out to 30 frames...and all DV runs at 29.97...so...
DV/NTSC 29.97. No advanced pulldown...just the basic setting.

  • Easy Setups in folder, but not in Easy Setups window in FCP?

    Hi all,
Just got my own copy of FCP, and have been tinkering around and getting familiar with the sequence settings, easy setups, etc.
I like the concept of the Easy Setups, however I noticed that not all of the Easy Setups from the "Additional Easy Setups" folder in my Applications folder (which came with the install) are visible in application.
For example, for one organization I edit for, we use a compact HD camera, a Canon VIXIA HF S200, which is AVCHD based, and we shoot in the XP+ setting (1440x1080) at 60i (29.97fps if you prefer).
When I did work on FCP6 there (I did not bother much with Easy Setups then) we'd be working with the appropriate sequence: ProRes422 1440x1080i60.
However in toying with these easy setups, the only ProRes 422 Easy Setup showing up is HDV-Apple ProRest 422 1080p24. However, the easy setups folder HAS a 422, 1440x1080, 60i easy setup config file, it's just not showing up in the app.
Worst comes to worst I'll just manually change the sequence setting because the sequence settings are there, I was just wondering If I had to "install" the additional easy setups or something so they actually appear as easy setups.
Again, no big deal, just was wondering if anyone knew, thanks!

    Hi -
The "Easy Set-Ups" are a legacy feature in FCP from when tape based acquisition was standard.
Since you will be ingesting your HF S200 material via Log and Transfer, and making transcoding decisions there, the Easy Set Up you have chosen is not relevant.
Once you have ingested your clips, when you place/edit the first clip to a new sequence, FCP will prompt you to match the sequence settings to your source material settings - again, making the Easy Set Up not relevant.

  • Easy setup setting for NXCAM 1920x1080 25p/50i

Recently I have "upgraded" from Sony HDV to Sony NXCAM*.
Filming in full HD @ 25p.
When importing the footage into FCP and selecting Easy Setup ProRes 422, I can not select frame rate. The "use" field is greyed out and contains the text "HDV-Apple ProRes 422 1080p24"
As the Easy Setup defines the initial settings of the sequence of a new project, each time I have to change the sequence settings manually to match the NXCAM footage.
Question: is there a way to define a new Easy Setup setting? ... or is there another solution?
    regards,
    Coen
    * HXR-NX5

The NXCAM shoots AVCHD. You don't use Easy Setup, but the Preferences dialog in Log & Transfer and set it to transcode to ProRes LT. That footage will adopt the 25fps frame rate of your source footage.
To set the Sequence correctly, simply drop a clip onto the Timeline. You will see a dialog that asks if you want the Sequence to match the clip properties (you do).

  • "Easy Setup" Question:   best setting?

Howdy. I'm creating video with my HD Kodak Zi6 and the output looks a bit squished. (I'm fatter than usual.)
I've had this trouble before and suspect that I have the wrong setting checked in Easy Set Up.
    What do you folks recommend?
    Thanks.
    Brad in Denver

Hey Tom, I've been reading a lot of your posts on this forum advising not to get the Zi6 if you want to edit in FCE, but I bought the camera before I found them. I was meaning to ask why this is a bad camera to use, because I've been able to open and edit footage in FCE as well. By going to File > import. I used the easy setup:
    Format - HD, Rate - 29.97, Use -HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 720p30
Here is a link to a few clips thrown together with some transitions. I don't really know what I'm doing, so, it's terrible. (You've been warned)
    http://www.vimeo.com/3956558
I'm really thinking about returning this camera though if it is terrible to pair with FCE, because the only reason I got it was to start learning FCE. I only have 2 days left to return it though. So I need to figure it out real quick. Do you think I should pay the restocking fee and get a cheap used DV camera off amazon/ebay etc?
Appreciate all your help and posts.

  • Easy Setup Setting

I have shot 24p on mini digital tape using a Sony HVR V1U camera. It's an HDV format camera. Using Final Cut Pro 6, what should my easy setup setting be?

Wow, thanks for this information! I looked everywhere. I have gotten different answers from various people. Some have suggested I simply use the Easy Setup: "HDV 1080i/60." I will try both including your ProRes format.

  • Changing aspect ration in FCP 7, Easy Setup?

I recently starting editing again in FCP 7 and am running into an aspect ratio problem.
Earlier this fall i tried capturing some clips off of my new camera (Panasonic HVX) and i believe i changed some of the easy setup/capture settings to accommodate the HD footage.  This weekend i used my old mini dv camera (Sony vx2100) to record some skating.
I didn't change the easy setup/other settings prior to capturing the tapes.
The image doesn't look as it looks ok in the viewer, but doesn't fully fill the canvas.
When i export to vimeo, the image doesn't fill the whole screen.
The image itself looks ok, but i believe the aspect ratio is off somehow.
This is a link to how the vimeo export turned out
    https://vimeo.com/85702402
here is a link to another edit i'd made previously in the summer where the image filled the screen better
    https://vimeo.com/73221381
here is a screen capture of the canvas
anybody know what i should do?

You need to ask this on the Final Cut studio forum.

  • Has FCP 7 Got Any Preset Easy Setups For AVCHD Video?

I just wondered whether FCP 7 has any AVCHD Easy Setups like FCE 4?
I can't find any but I could have sworn I saw some a year ago in FCP 6.0.1 onwards.
I don't need them, but I told a friend they were there when she was given some AVCHD to edit.

I don't think there have ever been specific AVCHD presets. The media's converted to another format for ingest so the sequence preset would be ProRes or AIC or whatever it was converted to.

  • INGESTED DVCPRO HD FOOTAGE IN WRONG "EASY SETUP" - HELP!

OK, this falls under the heading: Just plain stupid. Nevertheless, now I am looking for a fix. I'm new to HD. I shot a short film with a Panasonic HVX-200. I was not going to have to do the post-production and would periodically load the footage into FCP as it was shot just to see how it looked. Then it turned out, I was asked to edit it under a tight deadline. However, when I ingested the footage into FCP I never changed the easy setup. The editing is now done and I wish to output to Digi Beta. But I now see the sequence settings are set for CCIR 601 NTSC! Is there a way to "undo" this and put in the proper setting? Or is the only way to re-ingest and re-edit? This is embarassing. But, hey, we all have to learn. Maybe publishing my error will save someone else down the road! Thanks for any help.

That's very interesting to learn that 601 NTSC is the proper setting for Digibeta. I didn't know that. Here are the exact current sequence settings:
    Frame Size: 720 x 486. Aspect Ratio: CCIR 601 (40:27)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC - CCIR 601 / DV 720 x 480
    Field Dominance: Lower (Even)
    Editing Timebase 29.97
    QuickTime Video Settings:
    Compressor: Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2
    Quality: 100%
    Audio: 48Khz, 24-bit
    Config: default
I shot in DVCPRO HD 720p60
Gosh, I'm trying to remember if I had to render the footage as I dropped it into the timeline. I didn't think so. But now I can't swear to it.
I guess I have (at least) 2 questions: (1) Is there a way to "revert" to the HD format for this sequence now that it's edited? (2) Do I even want to do that if I want to output to digibeta print? What's the best thing to do to obtain a maximum quality digibeta print?
By the way, I just heard this week that the film was accepted into a film festival, so I'm under a dead line to deliver a print, preferrably in digibeta or beta sp format.
Would greatly appreciate any help. And thanks for the welcome to the forums!

  • Easy Setup For Panasonic AG-HMC150 Files?

I just got my new Panasonic AG-HMC150, and shot some sample footage at 720p/60. I had no problems getting the clips into FCP using Log & Transfer, and they look fine when playing them in the viewer, or from the timeline.
I have a Matrox MXO, and the clips also play great on my 2nd Cinema Display that runs off of the Matrox; and, I have a small Sony 4:3 CRT monitor, that shows the clips properly letterboxed, and they play fine on that too. I've even exported the clips to Compressor, and burned a DVD in DVDSP, which looks great. Audio is fine, in sync, etc.
The only problem is in the FCP canvas window; the lips will flicker a little or a lot, depending on the View Menu's video playback setting; using MXO DVCPRO 1280x720/59.94 causes a lot of flicker, while choosing MXO Uncompressed 1280x720/59.94 causes a little .
I'm not sure if my Easy Setup is correct; I've chosen the MXO Apple Pro Res 720p/59.94 sequence setting, but I'm not sure what to do for Capture or Device Control settings; I wouldn't think that they would matter.
I think the problem is with the Video Playback setting; I've chosen several of the MXO settings, and they all play fine on my Matrox monitor, but I can't find one that will smooth out playback in the canvas. Or, since everything else seems to work fine, should I even be worrying about this?
I'm making the switch from capturing tapes, and I actually expected a lot more trouble than I'm having; but solving this tiny glitch would be great. I'm looking forward to getting familiar with this camera and using it for some upcoming events.
Any suggestions on the proper Easy Setup settings for files from this camera, and in particular, a good View/Video Playback setting? Thanks in advance.

Click on one of the ingest camera files in the FCP Browser. Once it is selected, type Command + 9 to see the properties for the clip. Either report those properties here or take a screen shot of the item properties and post that here.
Next, click anywhere in your timeline, then type Command + 0 {zero} to see your Sequence Settings. Either report those settings here or take a screen shot of your Sequence Settings and post that screen shot here.
