FCP 7 crashing...App then Finder then Force eject and Reboot ;(

Few questions...so I'm working with FInal Cut Pro 7 on my MacBook Pro (2.66Ghz i7, 4GB Ram - OS 10.6.3). Making sure all other apps are off, Final Cut if lucky may continue working for 30min or so but typically crashes every 15-20min. As annoying as this is, I have to get some projects done and have had to force reboot every time (Finder eventually doesn't respond anymore as well as all other apps). But when trying to eject my external HD (G-Tech Drive) - I've had to force eject EVERY TIME. I don't know how safe this is for my hard drive and am getting kinda scared because most of my important data is on this drive and I have run out of hard drives to back them up on. I've searched high and low on the internet searches and forums and have yet to come to a solid fix.
Any ideas???
-Why does FCP7 keep crashing every 20min...? (yes I have re-converted all of my H.264 footage to ProRes422)
-If I have to live with it, why does it crash my finder forcing me to force eject my external hard drive every time?
-And is it safe to force eject your hard drive every time (this could equal over 10x/day!)???

Well I finally decided to back up the important files to an old external since I had to force eject so many times. And FCP started working magically. It still crashes say every hour or so but I will take that over every 15min.
I think I'm going to run through all of those troubleshooting steps still to hopefully make my workflow faster because it's still pretty slow. 50min to render a 4min video clip sounds pretty absurd to me? Sorry I'm an sound engineer and slowly getting into video so I'm sure a lot of it is me just not knowing that there is a better way to do this or that.

If you have a G5 then it's a PPC (Power PC) based iMac, this is an Intel iMac forum. Try the Gray screen appears during startup link for troubleshooting steps. I suspect the HD has crashed.

I put parent control on my sons apps so he cant download 17 apps, but I just found out if he restores his phone in itunes he can download an app then go back and back it up. Is there a way I can black restore on Itunes?

You can't block restoring in iTunes, but any restrictions you put on the phone are included in the iPhone backup, thus if your son restores from backup, he will restore any restrictions you put on the phone. His only choice, to completely remove restrictions, is to restore as a new device. You can also set parental controls in iTunes: iTunes>Preferences>Parental.

Weird noises and then nano freezes and reboots

My nano now has pops and other noises occasionally during songs. Some songs will work fine, others not. It continues to do this until it freezes and reboots.
I took out my headphones and played it for 22 songs without it rebooting.
It was working fine until I recharded the nano if that helps. I have only had this thing for 3 weeks!
I'd rather not send it in, I've reset it already, anything else I can do?

I have this exact same problem, although I can occasionally get through a few songs. Hopefully someone out there has an answer/fix.

Every single app including iTunes, safari forces close after ten minutes of activity? I have closed all apps with minus button and still closes

Every app on my iPad force closes including safari, and iTunes, it seems ir forces close after fifteen minutes of opening the app or iPad apps. I have tried using the double click start button to close all running apps but it still force closes and I've noticed that when I reopen an app after it foreclosed I will get a black screen and will have to close open and close and open in order to get any app running again. I know you can't get a virus but I am wondering. I am hoping I won't have to reset and lose everything I have. My memory is too low for backup. But if I have to reset can someone tell me what the reset does and if backup would restore on the reset. Ive tried everything clearing cashe cookies, history. Please help this is very frustrating especially when your in the middle of writing a paper and it force closes on me. I have never hooked it to a pc so not sure i would get a virus and I haven't used iCloud. If you have any suggestions can you tell me exactly what I need to do to fix this. I don't have the money to call apple support, I am a nursing student. Thanks, Abby

What is the best way to shut down an iMac that has frozen during a data transfer? The disk I was writing to will not eject. Stopping "copy items to" doesn't work either_ it is frozen as well. Is there a way to force eject the disk so I can shut down?

Some more information on the above: OS: 7.2
1. None of the shutdown commands would work so I held the power button down and received a prompt that asked if I wished to force eject the drive, I selected
the force eject and then shut down.
2. Just recently I installed an eSATA _ Thunderbolt_ port multiplier compliant PCIe card (Seritek Q6G) into a thunderbolt external chassis (OWC Helios) (seritek Q6G).
This freeze data transfer also happened when I connected a Firmtek 5PM external tower to the iMac via thunderbolt cable.
The driver for the seritek Q6G was installed in the iMac previous to connection of any of the devices.
Both external towers mount ok on the iMac but have frozen during data transfer.
The initial freeze was with the Firmtek 5PM which is (JBOD)_ I thought that might have had something to do with the freeze_ it being JBOD_ so next I tried the Mercury Elite AL Pro Q2- which is formated in RAID 5. But then froze too.
Anybody have any experience with this?
Maybe I need another driver?
Or maybe some update to my OS?
Any suggestions welcomed.

Hello BDAqua, thanx for the suggestions. Before I saw this reply I tried to first quit the finder and then to relaunch the Finder but that resulted was a blank gray screen.
In the end I ended up having to power down the iMac.
Fortunately the RAID array that was "active" seems to be fine and also has a firewire 800 connection so I can use it_ just not with thunderbolt until this issue is solved.
I'm going to check in the Applications>Utilities>system log to see if any clues are evident_ thank you for the suggestion.
PS: Nothing of note was obvious as a root cause in the Activity Monitor though.
hmmm....I was told that the Helios and seritek card were compatable and that the Helios didn't require any drivers..it will be a drag if there isn't an easy fix for this since this new PCIe card from seritek is the first to offer port multiplier compatibility for eSATA to thunderbolt...since they are both new I'm hoping that an OS upgrade will be the fix (presently7.2)...we shall see.

Read only permissions as an Admin & force ejection of osx disk; Other disk?

I have had problems with permissions on my computer for about 2 years now. In the past two years, I've reinstalled my OS about 10 times. In the past month, though, the problems have escalated. I can no longer burn my files to disk successfully because the disk is always ejected before the process can complete. This happened on occasion in the past, but now it happens every time.
I had an external biometric hard drive which I used to back up my files, but after about 10 months of use, it stopped working. I ordered a new one and sent the old one in for repair, but all of my backups were gone.
When I got the new one - it is smaller and more portable, which is a plus, it had already been formatted. I tried to reformat, but within minutes I had no control over my settings and even though I am listed as the only user, I had read only permission for the new drive and had no ability to change any system preferences.
Time to start from the Snow Leopard disk and try to repair permissions, etc. Did repair permissions and reset the permissions under the "Change Password" window in Utilities. When I tried to startup again, I only got a blue screen.
I have a firmware password, so when my drive wouldn't start, I tried again with the option key down and the startup disk in the optical drive - only to find it force ejected over an over. Then I noticed that not only were my two volumes visible, but another Network Server was fading in and out. Currently, my network was unplugged and I have never connected to an external server. Again, I should be the only user on my system.
I have returned the newest hard drive in exchange for a new one, but am uncertain of what to do now if I am unable to reinstall the OS. I have posted the photos I took with my iPhone to show the screen with the three volumes visible and will post the link shortly. Please help!

Mounting Shuffle causes my external hard drive to be forcefully ejected

When I plug in my 2nd gen Ipod shuffle, it mounts in Itunes OK, and then I have a few seconds before I get a message that 'The device was not properly removed', and my external hard drive, which was mounted prior to my mounting the shuffle, and also connects via USB, is no longer on the desktop. All the references to music in Itunes that refer to the external hard drive don't work.
This has been happening repeatedly, to the point where I can't move music from the external HDD to the shuffle, because they can't be mounted at the same time.
Can you help?

I don't have the answer to your problem, but I wanted to let you know you're not alone. Whenever I try to drag and drop a smart playlist (an audiobook - The Great Influenza - eight parts totaling about 264MB) onto my iPod Shuffle 2G icon in the Devices list on the left side of the iTunes window, it will transfer about 5 or 6 of the 8 files that make up the audiobook before the external drive holding my iTunes library gets forcefully ejected and I get a message that it was not properly removed. I also get an error message that I can't copy the disk IPOD because I don't have the proper permissions (or some such).
This is going to get irritating if I have to transfer each song or audiobook part individually.

Is it safe to force eject a Time Machine disk that is being encrypted?

The Time Machine encryption process is taking over 8 hours, is it okay to force eject it (using Finder's force eject command, not by unplugging the cable) so I can finish the encryption later?

From what many experts say, u should not encrypt TM. I agree, and I am nobody. But think about it. U are entrusting your backup to a new encryption scheme in a .0 release of what people are calling Mac Vista. A safer way to do this would be to put the enclosure in a tamperproof lock box where only you and your trusted other have the key, and if someone tries to take your data the entire enclosure bursts into flames ala Get Smart. That's what I would do, if I were bothered.
Ps. Pulling plugs on harddrives when they are writing is never a good idea. A better way to destroy the drive is to press the big red self destruct button on the before mentioned enclosure.

FCP X Crashes on Import then wont load

Another rather unhappy user, i asked FCP X to import my imovie stuff, and pretty simple task i would have thought, you'd be wrong very wrong, FCP X crashed 3 times, then it wouldn't load, i had to manually delete the imported imovie stuff before FCP X would load.
The story? There is a serious bug in the importing of imovie files, if its related to PAL movies i dont know but its a real pain, i will have to manually export files and import as fresh, if i can or wait for apple to fix this bug.
Pretty shocked at the overall result from this software, any comments appreciated.

Yes totally agree on your comment. It seems the real 'pro' users have been kicked off in favour of the prosumers, but they aren't really supported either, because iMovie imports don't!
I have about 5 serious issues with various aspects of Apple software right now and I'm not getting answers. Even my Apple ID password keeps expiring, forcing me to come with yet another new password I haven't used before. Been with Apple since late 1970's - never been so frustrated with software issues as I am right now. I will wait for the fixes but I hope they come soon.

I downloaded IOS6 and all my apps, including the App Store icon, disappeared. If I go to the Passport icon, there is an App Store button, but I have to search through all the apps to find the one I want and then click on "Open" to use it. Help!

Do the following:
Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID. If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.) Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID). Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).
