FCP 7 ignores PNG transparency if you don't design the "right" way :)

So here I am, doing my own thing as usual, editing, getting ready to slap on a lower third. So I decide to design it a different way this time. What if it looks like a curvy sheet of paper coming from the bottom of the screen, so that it's not just a regular suspended lower third that flashes on and off.
All good until I export the thing. It took me 2 hours to understand why FCP 7 is ignoring png transparency. Apparently, it's not how you export it, it's not the content (weird layers modes), and it's not even the DPI setting. It is the design itself. For some reason, FCP thinks you should never attempt to bring in a lower third that starts at the bottom of the screen, filling it completely. So there ya go. If you want PNG transparency, DO NOT FILL THE BOTTOM PART OF THE IMAGE. Leave some transparent space. Talk about putting your creativity on a leash.
To better illustrate this odd behavior which I would classify as a bug, I wasted 5 minutes recreating my "problem" for the world to see.
Have fun!

Hello,
Thank you for your advice. I have no experience using TIFF or even alpha channels when exporting an image. I understand how they work though, so I'll try that.
I have fiddled with that regular save as well, and it seemed to make a difference but then again it would still not be recognized as a transparent PNG either way. It may be a bug in my setup, I don't know.
Usually, if I want to animate something I use motion and that seems to take care of alpha channels on export. But of course, it would be a lot faster to do it right there in FCP, so thank you for again, I'll try using TIFF exports.

  • The operation can't be completed because you don't have the necessary permission.

My wife and I share files on our home network all the time. the problem is when I create files on my Mac Pro or Macbook Pro (.doc, .tif, .jpg, .psd, .png, etc) and place them on her Mac Mini. she can not edit them. She gets the message: "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have the necessary permission."
The only way I know how to fix the problem is to delete the file from her Mac, change the permissions on my Mac (via Get Info), and then re-copy the file back to her computer. The problem is there are hundreds of files, in different folders on her Mac, so using a batch command with Get Info (Cmd, Option I) is not an option.
First of all why are all the files I create "Read only" for "staff" and "everyone" in first place?
Is the problem with my computer or with hers?
Is there a way for her to overide the permissions so I dont have to spend days or weeks going through every file I have created on my Mac?
Here is a screeen shot of one file:
Here is a Screen shot of the Folder on her MacMini that I drop files into:

She needs to connect to the file server with your name and password. Then she'll have the same access you have. I assume that's what you want.

  • Awesome Tip for editing a PDF when you don't have the fonts

Needed to do this yesterday and looked online and found out how to edit a PDF file in Illustrator when you don't have the fonts. This is a godsend and thought others might benefit from it if they don't know about it.
Problem: You get a PDF file from somebody and when you try to open it in Illustrator, the PDF is using fonts that you don't have so it substitutes the fonts and screws everything up.
Solution: Create a new Illustrator document the size of the PDF.
Place the PDF into the Illustrator document.
While the PDF is selected, go to Object menu / Flatten Transparency
In there, make sure"Convert All Test to Outlines" IS checked.
Click OK and there you go, everything is converted to outlines, including the fonts and you can do with it what you want.
    Enjoy!

It's an excellent tip. This can also be done within Acrobat: Flatten transparency with Convert Type to Outlines toggled on, then Save As a new PDF, then Embed-Place the new PDF in Illustrator. It's a functionally identical process, although yours is superior because it requires fewer steps.
While Tom is right that you can't edit the text (because it isn't live), you certainly can, for example, include artwork from another party that would otherwise lose its typographic appearance.

Is there a way to remove your sim card if you don't have the tool that came with your phone? I wanted to see if I could upload my old information to the iCloud, by putting the new sim card into the old phone, since I didn't before I updated my new phone.

Any metal clip will do. Insert the tip in the little hole next to the Sim Card and press FIRMLY. The SIM drawer will pop out.

  • I can't open itunes on my HP laptop.  I keep getting the error message " You don't have the proper permissions to open this file".

    Hello-
I can't open itunes on my HP laptop that uses Windows 7.  I keep getting the error message "you don't have the proper permissions to open this file".  I removed all Apple downloads and reinstalled itunes 10.6.3 windows 64-bit numerous times, but I still get the same error message. Please help.

Just want to add that after hours of searching and following every different blog on this issue, iTunes/apple you have lost my vote. What a joke...!

  • Error in Powerpoint 2011: "You don't have the permissions necessary to perform the operation"

We have a user with a new iMac running 10.7.2 that is having some strange problems with Powerpoint 2012 and who knows how many other programs. The issue is whenever these programs try to write to the user's personal network folder, which we keep on a DFS share. The error message only pops up when the user tries to save over something that already has that file name on the share. So she is always able to make file.pptx, but any subsequent "save" commands result in this error message: "You don't have the permissions necessary to perform the operation." Then, all she can do is save the file as newfile.pptx.
This doesn't happen in Word or any other files in the office suite. I've tried this both when connecting to the DFS share, and when using SMB to connect directly to the folder on the server, with no change in results. I've not tried removing/reinstalling the Office suite, because it's only powerpoint. I believe it must be something to do with her account's permissions in Active Directory, but when she uses this domain account on a Windows computer, there are no problems at all, of course.
There's a mere 3 google hits on that bolded error message, leaving me with very little to go on. Has anyone run into this before?

    Hey,
I have Mac users using Office 2011 saving to CIFS shares having the exact same problem.
Like heiseheisepointed pointed out only Power Point seems to be affected. Word, Excel etc seem to work fine.
I have checked and reapplied the permissions to the share and it is not that, I believe it is something faulty in PowerPoint itself.
I also tried saving the files as ppt rather than pptx but you still get a permissions based error message.
Just wondering is eitherJeff or hbonath have any sucess in getting a fix for this?
    Cheers

  • You don't have the privileges to create or run workbooks

    Hi Experts;
I am using Oracle DB 10.2 , Discoverer version 10.1.2.0, EUL 5.1.1, EUL library 10.1.2.48.18
I use Role based security in my applications i.e. I am granting privileges to the roles and then granting the roles to the users, but I am having a problem with one of the schema/EUL which I could not trace.
I have granted the bussiness area to the role "B_User", I have also granted the following Desktop and Plus Privileges to the role "B_User"
    1) Create/Edit Query
    2) Collect Query statistics
    3) Item Drill
    4) Drill out
    5) Create Link
The required workbooks are shared to the roles, but when I log on to Discoverer plus and try to open the workbook it gives the following error "You don't have the privileges to create or run workbooks. Please contact your Discoverer manager". I could create the workbooks but can't run any of the workbooks( existing or newly created).
I followed the same method for granting Security and Privileges for other schemas/EUL and they are working fine.
Is there anything wrong with the EUL I created? I even tried granting security access to "Public" and granted the Desktop and Plus privileges to "Public" for the stated EUL but still have the same problem.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jethoo

    Hey Jethoo.
At first blush, what you've written looks fine to me (assuming all the correct grants, etc. work in other business areas in the EUL).
So, let me just go over it.
    1. You granted security (not privs) on the business area to a role 'B_User'. That means that anyone going into Disco using that role will let them see the underlying data.
    2. You've granted privs to the role 'B_User' to be able to play with Disco. That looks fine.
    3. You've written workbooks that have been shared with the role 'B_User'. That means that the end user can run a workbook.
So what I'd look at are:
    4. I assume you only have 1 EUL and if not, are pointing to the correct one (in Tools -> Options -> EUL.
    5. Did you create the workbooks in Disco Plus or Disco Desktop?
    6. Have you tried to run the same workbooks in Disco Desktop?
    7. When you did all the Admin stuff, did you reconnect in Disco Plus / Desktop before going on?
    8. Did you assign the role to the user - at the database level you're having problems with?
    9. Was it Friday the 13th. when you did all this - okay, maybe that's not an issue, but reaching here.

  • If you don't like the 3D Dock

If you don't like the 3D Dock you can change it:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=2007101815375480
Someone has posted applescripts to easily change it.
I prefer the flat dock mainly because I found it hard to see the little dots indicating open apps - especially on the default apple picture as some of the stars look like the dots.

    BTW...
You can also access the Dock's preferences by Control-clicking on the Dock space between the Apps and the Trash. (The lines that look like highway dividers). You can also toggle the magnification, screen location, etc. settings as well as left-click-dragging to set the size of your Dock. You never really have to open the System Preferences.

  • The operations can't be completed because you don't have the necessary permission

Randomly my MacBook running OS X Mountain Lion 10.7.4 would not let me copy files to my desktop or create a new folder on my desktop. When ever I try to do either it asks me to put my password in and then I get this error message:
"The operations can't be completed because you don't have the necessary permission"
I already 'Repaired Permissions' and 'Repaired Disk' multiple times in Safe Mode and also in Utility mode (not sure what to call it, the mode where you go when you are installing the OS).
    Anyone have any advice?

  • You don't have the authorization to start the workflow

    hi,
We are working on integration of ESS with EP.
From EP when we sent leave request, We are geting an error
"You don't have the authorization to start the workflow".
Can anyone help us on this?
Thank you very much in advance.
    regards,
    Uttam.

    Hi Linc,
    Thanks for replying so quickly.
I actually figured out what was wrong and I feel so foolish not for looking here first. But the folders themselves were not locked, it was each individual song that was. So all I did was open up the folder and the following sub-folders to reveal the songs. I then would right click on each song > get info > and then the locked button at the top would be highlighted in blue. All I had to do was click the button, and poof the song was unlocked and subsequently the entire folder was unlocked, then I could delete the whole thing. I had to do this about 150 times for each song hahaha but it all worked out.
    Thanks again for your time

     Situation:

-New users where created in the domain.
-Mail accounts where created and the .pst's imported.
    -Everything fine so far.
    Problem:
When a user tries to edit a calendar item created in the past the message "You don't have the permission required to send messages from this mailbox" appears. After that the item is changed in the users calendar who edited the item but not in the
other users calendar who where also invited.
Everything works fine when a new calendar item is generated.
    Cannot find anything on this.
    Please help!!

    Hi,
According to your description, I understand that you create a new mailbox for a user and imported Calendar items to this mailbox by using PST file.
If that is the case, the calendar items which are imported should be created by other user. It is just imported in this mailbox. Please check whether the original mailbox which these calendar items created on is still existed in Exchange server or not. Then
check the calendar items in the original mailbox.
Additionally, if the original user is still existed in your AD or exchange server, please assign Send As permission for the new user to this mailbox to have a try.

  • HT1420 If you don't have the e-mail set up anymore, is it still possible...?

If you don't have the e-mail set up anymore, is it still possible to play your songs even though you can't authorize them? I don't remember my password, can't reset it, and my security question says I'm wrong when I enter my birthdate. What do I do?

You will need to authorise that account to be able to play its downloads. If you can't remember then try contacting iTunes Support / Apple in your country to see if you can get access to it : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
