FCP 7 moving one frame at time no audio

Hello,
I'm working with FCP 7 and all of a sudden I have no audio when I move play head on time line one frame at a time.
I'm trying to edit around some audio issues and when I go frame by frame on timeline the audio is not working.
Driving me crazy.  Its always been there and all of a sudden gone.
Audio is fine when I play real time.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jeff

Are you talking about scrubbing the audio when you step forward frame by frame?
Either go to the menu View > Audio Scrubbing to toggle the Audio Scrubbing On ( a check mark will appear)
or type Shift + S to do the same thing.

  • Move the CTI one frame at a time short cut

Is there a short cut key to move CTI one frame at a time? I am an After Effects guy and very much used to move one frame at time using the shortcut keys. New to Animate CC... I haven't been able to figure out that feature in Animate CC. Any help for this newbie? Thank u. Cheers

That's how Photoshop's video editor works.  You can adjust only one layer/frame at a time.

  • Shot one frame short after import

I'm having a weird problem with 10bit uncompressed quicktimes imported into FCP being one frame shorter then they should be. I'm working with OS 10.4.11, FCP 6.0.3, Quicktime 7.4.5. The shots were originally shot on 35MM film then telecined at 1080 23.98 on HDCAM. I digitized them on a Kona LH at 1080 23.98 at 10 bit uncompressed. When my edit was completed I exported shots as self contained 1080 23.98 10-bit uncompressed quicktime files which we passed on to the VFX company on a FWHD. They did their work in Nuke/Shake and delivered the finished shots as self contained 1080 23.98 10-bit uncompressed quicktime files. After moving the files onto my media drive and then importing them into my project I find some of the shots are one frame shorter then the source shot. If I take one of the shots from the VFX render, open it with quicktime 7.4.5, and then save as an image sequence, the resulting folder imported into FCP and lined up with the VFX quicktime is now the correct length. It's one frame longer then the VFX quicktime but now matches the frame count of the source shot. I also opened the offending shot in a few other apps (After Effects 7 and Kona DPX translator) where they were the correct length
I suppose this could be related to the 23.98 frame rate however the compositors were working with quicktime files sent from FCP at the same frame rate.

Depending on what software the VFX house used, the media may have been modified in a way that is causing QT to mis-interpret the frame count, frame rate, or duration of the clips. It sounds like the frames are all there, but QT thinks the clip is 1 frame shorter than it's supposed to be. The media is ok, and it's just the QT metadata that is funky.
The frame sequence process sounds clunky, but I bet there is another batch process you can do with FCP or compressor to fix the files. These would still require exporting a new set of files and reconnecting. Sometimes placing each clip in a sequence and re-exporting will restore the missing frame(s). You can also use dumpster to edit the QT metadata, but this is also a one-file-at-a-time process.
    Hope this helps -

  • Question about controlling both handles or one at a time

I am using a trial version of Illustrator CS5 on Windows 7. I know how to select an anchor or its handle(s). But I do not know why I sometimes am controlling both of an anchors handles when I move one of them, or when I am moving only one at a time.
My question is: how to make it so I move both handles at the same time or how to make it so I am only moving one at a time?

yes you can use the direct select tool plus alt (option keys) or the convert anchor point tool to adjust only one handle at a time and you use the direct select tool without the alt (option key) to adjust both at the same time but be aware that once you adjust one of the anchor points independent of the other then you have made a corner (angle) anchor point and just using the direct select tool will not bring back the control over the two anchor points.
That means you have t use the convert anchor point to convert it back to a smooth anchor point, which will require you to adjust the path in a radial way that is both segments on both sides of that anchor point will move out of the position and follow a different form than it had before converting to a smooth anchor point.
The way around this is to go to the control Panel and use the button to convert to smooth anchor point which will give you a more desired result nd you can use the convert to corner anchor point button as well as yet another way of converting
So you should experiment so you understand the use of the direct select tool the pen tool the convert anchor point tool and the keyboard controls and the control panel.

  • Moving clips one frame at a time

I'm trying to line up some clips to all be the same length and start and end at the same exact time.
But final cut pro x is making it very difficult for me!
Is there an easy short-cut to move a clip one frame at a time?
I want these clips to line up exactly!
    Thank you,

The way I was doing it was zooming in really close (command +) and then manually moving the clips to line up.
But comma and period are exactly what I was looking for.

  • How can i slide a sound track one frame at a time in Pre 10

i do a lot of music videos where i record audio separtly from the video and then sync them and i have a lot of trouble getting them in sync, does anyone have any good tricks to do this? also, can i move said sound track one frame at a time in either direction to help get these tracks to sync up?
    Thanks

If you zoom to the max, and watch that little TimeCode box (it pops up, when you begin dragging), just look at the last two digits, as those are the Frames. Even with my clumsy hands and fingers, I can nail the displacement to Frame-accurate standards.
Now, some other NLE's go a step further, in that when the Clip is Selected, one can nudge it along, with modifier keys and the Left-Right Cursor keys. I do not think that has been added to PrE 10, but would be a great Feature Request.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
[Edit] Well shut my mouth! After you Select the Clip (unlinking with Alt+click, if muxed), just hold down the Alt key, while hitting the Left-Rigt Cursor keys!!!! Forget that Feature Request.

When I have two clips, one above the other, I would like to hear the audio from one at a time. How do I suppress temporarily one of that, in a easier way? Thank you.

I would think you would drop down the audio level lines in the "Stereo" tab (FCP 6.0.6 view to me) in the clip's video window.
But then again, in my old version, I can't play two clips at once.  But I figure if the newer FCP allow you to do that, then that's what I would do.

  • Nudge clip one frame at a time

I can move my clip one frame over by pressing "Shift" and the > or < key.
But after I've done that once showing a synch discrepancy of +1 or -1, then next time I do it, the increment is +5 or -5.
Is this normal? I need to be able to continue moving the clip +1 or -1 frame at a time.
    Thanks for telling me how!

Use the Trim Forward and Trim Backward buttons (Shift-] and Shift-[) to perform the selected trim operation to the outgoing and incoming clips on either side of the edit point. The inner trim buttons trim an edit point by one frame, while the outer, multi- frame trim buttons adjust edit points by a default duration of five frames. You can perform ripple and roll edits using these buttons while the selected edit plays back, trimming frame by frame while you watch the selected edit loop over and over.
The number of frames the multi-frame trim buttons add or subtract can be changed in the Editing tab of the User Preferences window.

  • Shift audio by less than one frame?

    Greetings!
Newbie to FCP. I have Standard DV tapes of concerts, very long clips (from 20 minutes to more than one hour), and I want to replace the audio with wonderful 24/96 carefully recorded audio done in Logic Pro. I have been able to sync the audio to video in FCP, but only to within one frame (when I drag the audio, it moves at one-frame jumps). I can sync much more closely in Logic, but how do I get the video with new sync'ed audio back into the FCP timeline? And would this degrade the video as I go round-trip from FCP to Logic?
Is there any way I can move audio tracks in FCP by less than one frame?
If not, can anyone suggest the best workflow to accomplish this?
    Thanks to all in advance!

  • Missing audio for one frame

Okay, been using Premiere for well over a decade now and this problem has plagued me for years.  I've never found time to actually make a comment about it until now; I just would find a work around.
This has been going on since 2006, when I started using 1394 to capture video after a Matrox card went crispy.  Sometimes, seemingly at random, I lose one frame of audio on clips that I capture.  My captures rarely exceed 60 seconds.  I usually capture some head and tail black along with a slate if available, the issue could still be happening but I can't hear it since it's quiet anyway.  Here's an example:
I zoomed in on the one channel to point it out; it spans both channels.  If I bring this in to Audition, the space times out to exactly one frame (0.033 seconds).  If I capture the same piece again, it's possible to have another frame drop but I've never had it at the same location twice.  I've had this from Premiere CS2 to 4.  I'm capturing off a Panasonic AJ-D250 directly to Premiere, no third party card.
Here's the first kicker: a completely separate system using a different model (still Pan. tho) deck in the same building has the same issue. I could bring this tape to that system and get similar results.
Kicker #2: I now have a completely new computer and have upgraded to 5.5.  The above was captured with that system.  The system also came with a different editor on it (a major one that I am not overly fond of and won't mention here) but that captures via 1394 without this issue.
I think I can rule some things out but the common items left are: 1394 capturing, using a Panasonic deck for playback and capturing into Premiere.  I've noted posts around the Internet describing the same issue dated as early as 2004.
Thoughts or ideas on how to eliminate this problem?

So no other decks Firewire capable in my building besides the Panasonics (AJ-D250's and AJ-D455's) but I came across something worth posting.
I downloaded and have been using the DVIO.exe program and have used it for about two weeks without any audio drops.
I hope to have a 1394 device here sometime to try capturing off that.

  • I have an image sequence in JPG and when I select open image sequence, select all does not work and I can only highlight one frame at a time.  I want to import these frames into QT7 to make a time lapse clip.  Any suggestions

I have an image sequence in JPG that I want to import into quitck time 7 for making a time lapse clip.   It has an option to open the image sequence, but when I do, it only lets me highlight one frame at a time.  The select all option seems to do nothing when I click on it trying to highlight all the frames.
If QT7 is not designed to perform this function, is there another alternative?   iMovie is non intuitive for this kind of operation and I cannot find a clear tutorial for using it to make time lapse clips from a sequence of still frames.
The tutorials Ive found on YouTube are well intended, but they all seem to leave out a vital step that eludes detection.
      Anyway, any help appreciated.
    Thanks
I am new to this forum and I'm not sure I can locate this thread again once I'm out of it.

Yes, I tried that.   The files were ordered by their original numbers as imported from the camera, but I batched them through Phocoshop to downsize all of them into a more manageable file size.   I opened that destination folder from quick time  from where it said select image sequence.   I clicked on the first one and opened it.   The result was a large image with an arrow indicating a movie was ready to go.   When I pressed the arrow, though, I realized it had only imported that one frame so there was no movie.   The files are Jpgs and are about 450 KB each.
To your knowledge are there any links to iMovie tutorials or quick time tutorials that may address this situation?  Maybe there will be one I haven't looked at yet.
        Thanks

  • How do I go directly from one frame to another particular frame which is far away in the time line? (e.g the two frames are separated by 100 frames)

How do I go directly from one frame to another particular frame which is far away in the time line? (e.g the two frames are separated by 100 frames). I mean, is it possible to take the playhead from one frame to another frame directly which is 100 frames away in the time line? Thanks for any reply.

In the Timeline, go to the first frame and press M to put a marker on it. Go to the other frame you want to jump to and put a marker on that one too.
Now press Ctrl+Semicolon to go to the previous marker - or Ctrl+Comma to go to the next marker.

  • Saving one frame at a time?

    Cheers!
I am using Low-level Grab Raw Data.vi example from NI-IMAQ. I want to save one frame at a time and then set the file position to end (and maybe add some mark that I recognize where the next frame begins). I know that it copies the raw data of the specified frame into Image Data Array. But does it write (in this example) data of one frame to disk and then set file position to end? If not, how to modify it?
How does changing number of buffer affect? I mean if I increase it >1 does it affect to number of frames to write per one iteration time of while loop?

    LH,
You may (you can see Groups in the Layers palette with the layer expanded):
    1) Ctrl/Cmd+A to select everything and Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+G to Ungroup ;
    2) ShiftClick the circle to deselect it; if it is still a Group (all of its own), Ungroup again;
    3) With the Centre Reference Point ticked in the Transform palette multiply the W or H value by 1.1 (just add *1.1 in the box) and Ctrl/CmdEnter to keep proportions (this is to make sure that they are long enough);
    4) Ctrl/Cmd+A to select everything again and Pathfinder>Divide (this will make pie pieces);
    5) Drag over the centre with the Direct Selection Tool and press Delete (this will rid you of the inner parts of the pie pieces so you just have the outer rim in pieces).
This should give you the 30 independent curved lines forming the circle, two of them with an extra (original) Anchor Point.

It could be that there is not enough memory in the printer or the print server to hold the entire document while printing. The printer gets Postscript files, which are larger than the original document. Also, if you are doing multiple copies, if you collate the pages, that takes more memory than printing each page multiple times.
