FCP Adding two frames to Starting Timecode change in Sequence Settings

Hi I am trying to change my starting timecode in my sequence to 09:58:00;00 but FCP keeps adding an extra two frames to make it start at 09:58:00;02 - my sequence is in DF. I am changing this by going into Sequence Settings > Timline Options > Starting Timecode. Anyone else have this problem? It's awfully frustrating - perhaps a glitch?

IF you ripped to DV NTSC, it should have come in as DF.
What are the specs of the Digibeta material?
Are you delivering on Digibeta or as a QT file?
Is your client asking for a master beginning with 09:58:00:00 DF starting timecode? You could set the starting timecode for 09:57:29:00, then add an additional second of black at the head of the timeline. The client is most likely needing DF timecode for 'show timing' purposes...is this to go to broadcast?

  • FCP 7 crashes when choosing "yes" to changing of sequence settings for Flip

I've been doing quite a bit of work with the Flip HD video camera recently. I grew tired of rendering everything, so decided it was time to finally upgrade from FCP 5 to FCP 7.
However, FCP 7 crashes every time I try to lay down video files from the Flip camera onto a timeline.
Upon laying the files down onto the timeline, I am prompted with the message asking if I want to change the sequence settings to match the video. I click yes and immediately get "General Error" and FCP crashes.
I tried trashing the preferences. same result.
I tried updating FCP 7 to FCP 7.0.1. same result.
I even tried updating fixes for iMovie as if that would have anything to do with it. same result.
I'm currently rendering it out the same way I had been in FCP 5.
    Any advice or ideas?

AVC is h.264, which is not a work-able editing format, it's a delivery format (and a consumer video camera acquisition format suitable for holiday videos going straight to YouTube), that's why you've been having to render all the time in FCP 5.
Now you're in FCP 7 and it's asking if you want to change the sequence settings to match the video, but there is no sequence setting to match AVC/h.264 so it's freaking your computer out. Still, it shouldn't crash, but that's the problem i believe.
You need to correct your work-flow by transcoding your media into something usable like ProRes, or you can choose not to change your sequence settings, and render the timeline as you have been doing in the past.

  • How Do I Change My Sequence Settings to Match My Clip

    Hello -
I shot some footage in SD with a frame size of 16:9. When I dragged a clip into my first sequence, FCP asked 'if I wanted the Sequence to assume the properties of the clip?' I hit 'yes' which changed the sequence to match my clip. However, when I created a new sequence(in the same project) and dragged a clip into it, FCP did not prompt me with the option to change the sequence settings. Now, I have a 4:3 sequence with a letterbox 16:9 clip. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks for your help!

  • I need help changing the sequence settings to my video

I shot on a JVC Everio in 720x480 29.97fps. I normally shoot in 1080x420 so I know the picture quality isn't going to be AS good. Normally, when I drag my clips into the timeline Premiere changes the sequence settings for me and everything looks fine. However when I drag  this footage (the 720p) in, it becomes elongated and fuzzy.
I've messed around with the sequence settings by using DV-NTSC widescreen 48kHz and DVCPRO50 480i NTCS widescreen. When I drag my clips in they're cropped really close and they still look a bit off when I change the image to fit the screen (DVCPRO 50 looks a little bit better).
When I shot the video it looked crisp and clear on the monitor. I'm wondering if it looks strange because of the sequence settings and if so, what would be the best settings for this video.
The final video is going on youtube and I would like to make it look as good as possible!
Please let me know if you can help me out!

However when I drag  this footage (the 720p) in, it becomes elongated and fuzzy.
What 720p? You gave us two frame sizes. Neither of them are 720p.
1080X420 is a very strange frame size. And you say it is normal? A 720p video is 1280X720 non-interlaced.
Chances are very good that it is 480i video you shot with a frame size of 720X480 and it is interlaced.
That video should be interpreted with a Pixel Aspect Ratio (PAR) of 0.9091 (rectangular pixels that are taller than they are wide) - and what that means is that it isn't 16:9 it is 4:3 and should be edited in a 4:3 sequence. If, however, Premiere Pro is seeing the footage as having a PAR of 1.0 (square pixels) then you may have to right click on the clip in the Project Panel and select Modify|Interpret Footage and set it to D1/DV NTSC (0.9091)

  • How to set Start-Timecode in a sequence?

I cannot find the "Start-Timcode" option in the new timeline panel.
    Where has it gone?
    Premiere Pro CC 2014.1
    Thanks for any help.

The help is your friend. Searching for "start time" took me directly to this page: Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Adding clips to sequences
The last section on that page:
    Set sequence start time
By default, each sequence’s time ruler starts at zero and measures time according to the timecode format you specified in the Display Format field of the New Sequence dialog box General tab. However, you can change the starting time of the sequence’s time ruler. For example, you may want to set the start time to match a master tape, which typically begins at 00;58;00;00, to accommodate a two-minute leader before the standard program start time of 01;00;00;00.
In a Timeline panel menu, choose Start Time, and enter a starting timecode, and click OK. (The starting time must be a positive number.)

  • Change the sequence settings from NTSC 30 fps to PAL 25 fps, is possible?

    Hello,
I have a finished project that was make in a sequence with the format NTSC 30 fps. Now I need to change that sequence and the project to PAL 25 fps. I have changed the settings of the source secuence to PAL 25, but in the resulting sequence the audio and the videos are different in time and speed.
With the videos I have make a match frame to find the source, but with the audios I have problems. ¿There is a automatic proccess in final cut pro 7.0 that could make a translation of a finished sequence that was developed in NTSC 30 ftp to a PAL 25 fps?
Can you give me a tip or something to make the trasnlation ?
    Thanks in advance

Sorry...but it isn't as simple as changing a project frame rate. FCP is NOT good at mixing frame rates. And when you put NTSC footage (29.97fps), into a PAL timeline (25fps), that is exactly what you are doing. No, this won't work. No magic solution for this (although Avid MC5 does this nicely).
You are going to have to export a QT file, and let Compressor tackle this job (and it will take a WHILE, and you will have to run a few tests to see if your settings work to your satisfaction), or take that QT file to a post house with a Terranex or Snell/Wilcox to do the conversion ($$$$)...or output to tape AND THEN do the Terranex thing.
    No easy button here.

  • FCP adding random frames to my exports

    so here's my problem
i exported my sequence using "export with current settings"
but when i do i look at the export and there are suddenly random frames thrown into the cut
i thought, 'man i must have not watched the cut before i exported'
so i went back and looked at it, it looked fine, those frames are NOT in my sequence
to absolutly make sure i went to the same part in the sequence where the added frame was on my export and went frame by frame to make sure
there aren't any random frames in the sequence only the export
i have tried exporting through QT conversion too and it still added those random frames
why can't i export without those frames?
    i'm working in FCP 6.0

alright what the heck is going on???
i'm really starting to hate FCP 6 !!!!!!!
so i opened my original scratch media in QT and exported then deleted the old file that was giving me trouble
then when i open my project, fcp is asking me to reconnect
so i choose the new file and it won't let me connect!!!!!!!!

  • How do i undo my changes in sequence settings? (the frame size)

I have ran into a very frustrating problem. I have FCP 7 and my footage i am editing is HDTV 1080i. With this footage i have to change the frame size to 1440 by 1080 and in another instance i change it to another frame size. The problem is that i made a mistake with one of the frame sizes and i dont know how to undo the mistake. If i enter in a new frame size, the video will only add on to my mistake frame size instead of replacing it. The only way i see fixing this is redoing everything...but there has to be an easier way...any help?! Or am i unclear?

Select the clips that aren't filling the frame correctly, and then right click on one of them to select "remove attributes". From the dialog box that will open, select "basic motion" then click OK. This should take care of your problem if I'm reading this correctly.

  • Changing Incorrect Sequence Settings

    Hello All,
I have a projects that has about 3 dozen sequences. All the video was shot on an EX1 using XDCAM EX 1080p30 (35 MB/s VBR). All the sequences but one are correct, Frame size: 1920x1080 Aspect Ratio: HDTV 1080i (16:9), Square pixels with an editing timebase of 29.97...that look great. When putting everything together, I found that one sequence had been put together with the wrong setup. It has the following settings: Frame size: 1440x1080 Aspect ratio: HD (1440x1080) (16:9), Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (1440x1080) with an editing timebase of 23.98. My question is, how can I get this one sequence to match the others? Lots of cuts on this one, would not want to have to recreate this one from scratch. Help!
Final Cut Pro 6.0.4 running on 10.5.5 on a Mac Pro.

I have exactly the same problem HOWEVER when I try "remove attributes>video attributes>distort" (I uncheck and hit okay) the distortion does NOT go away. When I go back to the video attributes menu the darn distort is still checked. Do again and again to no avail. Quit, restarted, same deal.
Any ideas, oh wise masters, before I take to the drink?
    Thanks.>A

  • Please Help! I created a PP file on a Mac and need to finish it on a PC? How do I change the sequence settings? Cross-platform usage??

I need to know this as soon as possible. How do I allow this file to work on a PC. Thanks

Yes I opened it and it said "This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type."
So what I did is open a new file, clicked Import, clicked on the project I've been trying to open and imported the selected sequences, since it wouldn't let me import the whole project. Now all the clips are in a bin, but how do I put it on my timeline as if it were the whole project I was working on? If I select the imported file, the clips appear on the timeline all scrambled and just as that, clips. Essentially I have clips but need the sequence (project) I had created.

  • Sequence settings changed and digital cinema freezes. what now?

    hello there.
i'm a new fcp user and i could really use some help on some issues that came up while working on a film project.
the material was captured with the camera function of a digital still camera, which resulted in rushes of .avi format, 30 fps, 640X480 frame size.
we then converted these into .mov clips using quicktime and compressor so that we can work without the need to render. we encoded them using the Apple ProRes 422 codec.
i opened a NTSC project to work on this and have created a sequence preset having exactly the same settings as my clips (Apple ProRes 422, 30 fps, etc).
i'm cutting the whole project on a macbook pro (see details below) running fcp 6.0.3 and i'm using a second monitor toggling between browser and digital cinema desktop preview.
everything was working fine till yesterday, when suddently some sequences needed rendering (while they were working fine till then) and dcdp freezed (that is i get the first frame and i can hear the sound when i playback a clip or a sequence and then i get the current frame when i stop it).
i've checked the sequence settings and i've found out that all of my sequences are now pal, 720X576, 25 fps. that's the first part of the problem. i tried changing the sequence settings, but of course i cannot change the frame rate; i've tried creating a new sequence with the correct settings and then copy&paste the clips from the prev sequence but then video and audio go out of synch by 2 frames. how did my settings changed all of a sudden? is there a way to keep my edited sequences without the need to manually re-cut the whole thing?
as far as the second part of the problem is concerned (the dcdp not working anymore), i've tried changing my settings (going from full screen to raw, trying single frame against all frames, etc) but still it doesn't work. the rest of the settings are ok (eg. i've found in the forum that the checkbox about playback mirrored on the desktop should be ticked and it was already).
this computer is never conected to the internet and it has never been manually updated (so there is not a way that an OS update is not working well with fcp).
    any ideas?
    thanx,
    nikos.

I've experienced the exact same problems you are having and it's driving me nuts.
It's not like my system has changed. I bought the Mac Pro and Final Cut Studio together and all was well when I first installed it. That initial project was an HDV project and DCDP worked great.
Since then I'm working mostly on SD PAL projects and when I go to preview it on the desktop it does the first frame freeze when you hit play and parks on the current frame when you hit stop.
I can resize the main edit window to full size and the sequence plays back fine but when I go to DCDP it just won't play at all. It feels like a bug but this is the first time I have found someone else with the same problem. By the way, I'm only using one monitor so the mirror desktop thing made no difference.
I know the DCDP isn't great quality but it's fine for getting a general overview and I sure do miss it.
    Help us.......please......

  • Sequence Settings Changes-

    Hello,
I am new to Final Cut Express, but have had no problems troubleshooting using the Support Forums in the past. Currently however,  I am in quite the predicament. The problem first started when I realized that the quality of the video in the Viewer was far greater than that of the Canvas. I then reviewed several posts, and discovered that the sequence settings are set to 720x480, while the footage is 1920x1080. Following the post's "instructions" I attempted to change the sequence settings to match that of the file settings; but to no avail. As additional information, I just started using a GoPro Hero camera, and although I film in the same resolution as my Canon, the Compressor changed from Apple Intermediate Codec to "H.264" on the GoPro footage. Because I have never encountered this problem before, I am fairly certain it has something to do with the new camera. In addition to the Compressor difference, here are other changes since I have imported footage:
I noticed is that in the viewer, the resolution percent was set to 44%, automatically. In the canvas however, it's 132%.
I didn't use log and transfer to import files, because FCE 4 HD wouldn't recognize them, giving me a message about some sort of protection. I proceeded to copy the files onto my hard drive, and then import them into FCE4 through the Import>Files.
Overall, from reading the other posts it sounds like I just need to change the sequence settings. How do I do this...

Select the clips that aren't filling the frame correctly, and then right click on one of them to select "remove attributes". From the dialog box that will open, select "basic motion" then click OK. This should take care of your problem if I'm reading this correctly.

  • Changing Sequence Settings for HD

    Hi Gang
    Working with FC6
I work mostly with Standard Def, but I have a few pieces/clips of HD.
If I change the Sequence Settings here, as prompted, will ALL the sequence settings also be changed to exisiting Projects which contain mostly Standard Def?
The plan is to integrate a few pieces of HD footage to other standard footage in the same timeline.
    Thanx
    Mike

"I understand you have a DV timeline already setup"
    Yes
"when you bring in an HD shot FCP should automatically resize and letterbox it (if you are in a 4:3 timeline) No prompts."
Actually initially there is a warning/prompt to reset settings; http://www.locationstudio.net/Sequence%20Settings.jpg
I will say NO to this prompt, edit the clip, drag it down, and resize manually 120%, (I don't use wide screen format).
    Thanx
    Mike

  • "Change sequence settings to match clip settings"

Hi - I seem to have lost this prompt!!
Before when I bring a clip into a sequence with a different codec, FCP would ask me if I would like to change the sequence settings to match the clip settings..
I used to love this feature because it meant I didnt need to render the sequence and i could edit clips with most any codec/compression settings etc.
Anyway now FCP doesnt do it anymore! I send the clip down and it just puts it in the sequence and gives me the big RED BAR on top and I have to render.
I have repaired permissions. I have trashed FCP prefs..etc
I'm using FCP 6.0.4 on Tiger. Any ideas would be super appreciated!

    Hey guys,
I found the same problem occurred with my own "weird codec". I'm on FCP 6.0.6 and I was doing some simple testing work with Photobooth's video feature, which records in MPEG-4 640x480 .mov. I tried getting my sequence to auto-conform with both 'ASK' and 'Always' settings, but no dice.
I didn't find a solution, mostly because it was easier to simply batch export them all as DV Pal clips, but I thought you might be interested. I posit the auto conform only works with more conventional video codecs like those listed in the Easy Setup options - of which, MPEG-4 is not.
