FCP Adobe Premiere conflict

I just installed Adobe CS4, including premiere. Almost immediately I began having problems with Final Cut Pro.
While trying to open a project, I get a No Movie in File message, followed by an Out of Memory message, and then a General Error message.
Has anyone encountered similar issues, and could it be a conflict between FCP and Premiere CS$?
Thanks

what version of FCS and FCP were installed?
I have both on my MacPro without issues

  • Best way to work with FCP files and Adobe Premiere

    Hi,
I have a bit of a technical problem. I'm editing a doco for broadcast on TV and have shot on HDV and downloaded onto our system as PAL, Apple Pro Res 422, 25 fps. oowever, Our graphics editor is on Adobe Premiere CS4.
What is the best way to get it onto her system and back off again and onto ours, with the mimimum or no loss of quality?
I've heard that an XML might work, but will it work on Adobe CS4? I don't know how this will pan out if it's XML. Will we be able to open it all back up in FCP when she hands it back. What sort of file do we get back from the Adobe Prem Pro Cs4 system?
I'm a bit nervous about it all.
    Hope you can help.
    Cheers,
    Margie

This got me curious Eagleray as I do this all the time within my Mac FCS to CS all the time. But to a PC got me a googlin. Hope this discussion _http://www.animotion.nl/en/tutorials/fcp-xml-premiere-pro-cs5/_ helps as quite a few students seem to have Macs at school and PCs at home. Also do be aware of the different formatting of some PC drives like FAT16, FAT32, NTFS vs the Mac GUID. The Mac can read them all with the proper system addons/drivers, they show up in System Preferences Preference Panes under "OTHER". I use NTFS-3G to mount NTFS PC drives. I think it was free, if not there is another one I used to use that is free from some open source NTFS group. FAT has the size limit issue of I think 2 or 4gb (you can't copy anything bigger than that at one time to a Mac from a FAT drive). I'm on Snow Leopard on my 8core. My partner who edits in PP CS3 on a PC brought over his Maxtor USB the other day for me to copy some video files from and it's been having problems mounting, I believe since I upped to SL. I threw it on my 6 year old PowerBook G4 running 10.5.8 and it mounted right away. Just another weird gotcha. But take a quick look, tho the title says CS5 in it, a few students were using CS4 on a PC.

  • Transferring a project from Adobe Premiere Elements 10 into FCP

    Hey everyone,
I'm an FCP editor, and I have just come on board a project that has thus far been cut on Adobe Premiere Elements 10.  I want to export the EDL of the project and import it into FCP, but this Premiere programme is unusual because it doesn't have an "export" fuction.  It has "share".
I'm trying to figure out how to go about exporting the EDL and then tell the (not tech savvy) director this remotely so he can email it to me
Does anyone know how to do it?
    Thanks!

Unfortunately, PrE does not offer EDL, or OMF Export, as Premiere Pro does.
Steve's suggestion to Export/Share the Timeline, for Import into FCP is the closest that one can get.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Does FCP perform better than adobe premiere elements on a MacBook Pro?

does FCP perform better than adobe premiere elements on a MacBook Pro?
    Background:
    * just trying to decide what to go for re video editing app with more features than iMovie
    * last time I'd tried Adobe Premiere Elements on my MacBook (but it was before I had an SSD) the performance was not good - it was sluggish to the point I really didn't want to use it
    * so this question is just about whether in general FCP X performs better on a Mac (you'd think it would no, as it's made/optimized for a Mac)
    My MacBook:
Processor  2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Elements is essentially an amateur app and Premiere a professional one similar to the discontinued Final Cut Pro 7.
FCP X is a radical new approach to editing which like Marmite, you either love or hate.
It is probably between the 2 in capabitlity but much closer to Premiere.
Some might say it was better than Premiere, whilst other long standing broadcast editors would disagree.
It all depends on your standpoint and I am trying to give an unbiased appraisal.
Some of the techniques it uses are way ahead of all other apps and this is what worries people who have an established way of working, though as I mentioned in another post, there are a few omissions which have upset those editors.
Some might say (echoes of Jeremy Clarkson) that FCP X is the most advanced editing app on the planet albeit with a few teething troubles.

  • .FCP files in Adobe Premiere CS5

I'm using Adobe Premiere CS5 at work - on a PC. I just got several hours of video footage that's been captured in Final Cut Pro. The footage is in the .FCP format and need to be imported into Adobe Premiere CS5. what is the easiest way of doing this?
Is it possible to import .FCP files directly into Premiere?
Any help is appreciated - thank you.

A .FCP file is not footage; it's a Final Cut Pro project file. There is no way to import that file directly into Premiere. Instead, the project will have to be exported as a Final Cut Pro XML document from FCP--any computer with FCP can do this, so all you have to do is email the FCP file to that individual, who can open it and export as an FCP XML document. When this is emailed back to you, you import it into Premiere as any other asset, and the XML document will be converted to a Premiere Pro project. You can then relink to the media you already have.
Do note that the FCP -> PPro translation is not 100%; there are some things that don't travel over at all, and some things that don't travel well. Check out the help docs for more information: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WSd9957a95a81082eb28f05af5126718c47be-800 0.html

FCP 10.1 DV capturing from camera breaking the scenes into unwanted clips by flashing a black screen on import window. But its fine and accurate with adobe premiere pro cc ?
    Any solution * Advance Thanks

FCP X will import into separate clips every time it detects a scene change (as when you stopped and started recording in the camera). There is no option to avoid this, as far as I known.
You may try importing from camera using Quicktime Player X and then bringing the imported file into FCP X.

  • Export from FCP to Adobe Premiere on PC for client to cut

I have some sequences that are complete on FCP 6 and had originally been used for DVD production
Now the client wants me to export them to some format, written to DVD for transport, and enable him to bring them up on his Windows PC in Adobe Premiere so he can make cuts that he will convert to Flash and put on the internet. What would be the easiest way to convert the files to something that will make this process go smoothly. He has no desire to have FCP xml files and original data files so that he can continue to edit in premiere. He just wants to cut and export.

OK -- I could make them WMV on the Mac side, move them to Windows. What software do you recommend to get them to Flash?

Well, when I start working (should I say try to work with FCPX, activity monitor in the %processor column for FCPX jumps rapidly over 100% and reaches more than 200% ??? What the **** is that ?
200% or more is not strange. Remember that your mac has 4 cores (you say it's 3 months old, so I assume it is a new model), so 200% amounts to using 2 of these 4 cores to the max.
Regarding the question of creating a new admin user: while it sits in the same system, it may help if the problem is caused by some user-specific preferences or settings. Not likely in your case, since you seem to have reinstalled from scratch, but still it is worth a try. It takes 5 minutes and may help pinpoint the problem.

  • Going from FCP to Adobe Premiere

    Hello,
I am ending a job with a company that works with all PC based programs. I have done a lot of work in FCP for them. As I leave the graphic designer of the company requested that I give her all the project files so that she can modify them if needed. Is there anyway to convert the Final Cut Project File into something that will open in Adobe Premiere? If I sent her all the capture scratch and the project files would this work?
    Anything to helps.
    thanks,
    Johnny

Premiere Pro (CS4 and CS5) can open Final Cut Project XML files .... export your projects using the XML option in the File > Export menu, then send her those together with the Capture Scratch media.

  • FCP Studio 2 compatibility with Cineform, Adobe Premiere Pro & Canopus

Currently my post workflow is on FCP Studio 1, and I am considering upgrading to FCP Studio 2 on my Mac G5. But since I am also considering getting a Windows PC which has Cineform, Adobe Premiere Pro and Canopus EDIUS installed in it for offline editing and handling of variable frame rate footage shot on Varicam, I am concerned if I can transfer the editing timelime from the PC (edited on Cineform, Adobe Premiere Pro or Canopus EDIUS) over to the Mac's FCP Studio 2 to do color grading on it using the new Color? Will the file formats and codecs used in Cineform (Cineform RAW), Adobe Premiere Pro (AVI), and Canopus EDIUS (Canopus HQ) be compatible or recognised in FCP Studio 2?
Is FCP Studio 2 able to handle footage shot using SI's 2K camera? Can Color be used to grade the 2K footages shot on the camera?
Also, do I need to make any hardware (e.g. my capture card, etc) upgrade for the above to work?

Export back to tape, and capture that in FCP. Things should work swimmingly.

  • Is Adobe Premiere Crashing on you??? - Solution to almost every cause...

I've been trying to fix this problem of mine, and I've found that countless people have had the same problem with previous versions of premiere and still do with even the more recent versions. I'm going to be posting this on multiple forums to help out. Well, I might be being a little cocky saying that I have a solution to every case of Adobe Premiere not working, but I will give as many solutions as I know starting with my problem, which I've had happen multiple times, and then go through the possible solutions to other countless people's errors that I've seen while trying to fix my problem.
It might almost seem like it's not worth it to go through all of my steps and instead just format your hard drive, but some people have too much stuff to have to copy off the drive to do that so that is why I'm posting this. For example, I myself have over a Terabyte of music on my computer =/.
    PREMIERE PROBLEM CRASHES
When I would click on Premiere, no matter what version ( I only tried Adobe Premiere 6.5, Pro 7, and CS3 but I'm sure it would've been the same for all ) it would pop up as it usually does and then it would crash ( for search provider purposes I'm going to put every word I can think of ) lock up, freeze, shut down, close out, not work, wouldn't start, doesn't open, won't run, can't load, etc. Premiere 6.5 for example would say "Initializing" and then give a send or don't send error message. Similar thing for CS3 except it didn't say "Initializing" it said something else, but it would only say the first thing it would try to do and then the same error messages every time. This seemed to be an unfixable problem I've had multiple times with adobe premiere and I've tried the following possible fixes but none worked: System restores, uninstall and reinstall, uninstall all audio and video codecs I can find, Delete every adobe premiere file that exists on my computer including documents and settings / my documents / windows / program files / temp files / prefrence files / application data / etc., also going into my regestry editor and going to HKCU... as well as HKLM / Software / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / RUN and RUN Once and deleted any proccesses I knew I didn't need on startup, I've also tried unchecking Load Startup Items under the Selective Startup section using "msconfig" in the run command and then restarting without those background programs running and then tried Premiere, and I've even tried to do a repair install of Windows XP, but not a single one of those things in any combination would do the trick!!!
    POSSIBLE CAUSES
The problem actually started after doing a system restore, maybe undoing something I wasn't aware of even though the system restore itself was only created a few days back so I'm not sure how that could be, none-the-less the problem started just after. It might have also had something to do with a new program I had installed to clean my registry. I don't believe that was the problem because after cleaning my registry and before the system restore the program worked just fine, but maybe the combination of the two things caused the problem this time. A few other problems I've heard of as possible causes / solutions are...
    · Conflicts with Audio Codecs such as - Lame Mp3 / Ra-Audio codec12 /  RC3 / etc.
    · Conflicts with Video Codecs such as - Ligos, ffdshow, Darim Vision, Moonlight WinDivX, WMP DVD Playback, Core Video, Matrox, Fraps, etc. etc.
    · Malware, Viruses, Spyware, bogus Registry Cleaners like RegCure, Pirated Software ( big no no), and other vulnerabilities.
    · Prefrence files that needed to be deleted like: Prem60.prf, Premiere 6.5 Prefs - in C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserNameHere\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere, and a few other pref files I can't really remember.
    · QUICK TIME, you should uninstall quicktime (which might have been my problem) and delete all files associated with it including Apple Software.
    · Start Up proccess conflicts. Use Msconfig in the run command line to bring up msconfig, then under General / Selective Startup, uncheck Load Startup Items and restart your computer. If after restart Premiere doesn't work read on...
    · Ace Mega Codecs Pack: This one can cause a lot of conflicts... Here's a screenshot of what your Ace MCP settings should be on through a Custom install, or you can use your control panel to modify an already existing install... http://frankreu.ipower.com//AceSettings.jpg
MY SOLUTION ( to possilby every case of Premiere crashing )
This is a very good solution to have so that you don't have to try all the other things first, I guarantee this is the best solution and it will take a little courage on your part but does the trick without having to format your Hard Drive. The first thing I did was uninstall all versions of Premiere, then Ace Mega Codecs pack v5.93.8971, I also uninstalled all extra audio codecs I could find, and uninstalled any extra software I didn't need on my computer while I was at it which might be causing the conflict such as Fraps, Growler Guncam, and any other little programs I didn't need and could reinstall. Even going as far as looking through the Program Files for things I didn't recognize, and if I were anyone else I would google it to make sure it is not a necessary file, and then delete all the folders to programs I had already uninstalled that were left over or other folders to things that I didn't need. If you're going to do this make sure you go into your My Computer folder, then at the top select the Tools tab and click on Folder Options, then on the view tab make sure that Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected and click apply. Then I went into C:\Documents and Settings\ (Every different account there was) and looked through the Application Data folders and the Local Settings folders for left over Adobe Premiere files and folders and deleted them all. I also cleaned out every temp folder I could find by selecting the files and pressing shift + delete to skip the recycling bin proccess. If you come across any files that say "cannot delete" due to file permissions just look on google for the program called Unlocker 1.8.7 and download it for free, here's the current link http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/unlocker1.8.7.exe. After installing it, should only take seconds, you can right click on any file or group of files and click unlocker, then select the delete option and press the Unlock All button. If the process winlogon.exe or svchost is in the list of processes you are going to unlock do not do it, this will freeze up your computer. After deleting all those left over files you should use your Search command in your start menu to look for anything with the name Premiere in it, make sure you select Advanced Options and then put checkmarks next to Search System Folders, Search Hidden Files and Folders, and Search Subfolders. Delete all those files, but make sure they are related to Adobe Premiere and not something else. Then, and this may not be a necessary step so don't panic, I ran Uniblue Registry Booster to clean out my registry files of all unecessary entries and also did a registry defrag. Uniblue is software you have to pay for though so you might want to fish around on the internet for a good free registry cleaner, do not use RegCure though that one's a scam.
Then, and this is where you have to be kinda brave, I went into the registry editor by pressing the start button on my tastbar and opening the run command I then typed regedit.exe, or just regedit, to open the system registry editor. First you should make a backup of your registry before going any further by clicking the File / Export button, and saving the registry to your My Documents folder or somewhere else you will be able to find it. I would then use the Find command with all options checked to look for Adobe and then Premier seperately to make sure I found every place that had Premiere entries in it and then deleted those entries. Make sure you start from the top by having My Computer selected. Some would only say Prem~.exe and things similar to that, so that is why you have to look for Adobe as well to find all the entries. Once you click find, you can press F3 to do a find next and continue the seach after each value you delete. If a folder contained only a value with an Adobe Premiere property in it I deleted the whole folder. I then searched for the following words and began the same proccess with them: Ligos, Matrox, Fraps, Quicktime, and during the search if I saw any values I wasn't sure of because they didn't seem to be what I was referring to I left them alone. I also deleted any entries that I knew I nolonger needed in there such as Apple Software, and refrences to game demos or other programs I knew I had already uninstalled. Be carefull with that though, you should be absolutly sure before deleting anything from the registry. You have a back up so don't get too scared if you damage it, just double click your backup of the registry, then reboot and start over. Worst case is that you might have to do a windows repair install if you mess up.
Anyway, after you're done in the registry create a system restore point and then restart your computer. Once it loads up again try reinstalling Adobe Premiere and make sure you cross those figers, that's the most important part. Viola, that's my solution. If it doesn't work for you, well, most likely you have some serious malware or a trojan that just doesn't like Premiere. I myself use Panda Titanium 2009 as well as Uniblue PowerSuite to keep my system clean. If you can't afford that try Lavasoft Adaware freeware + Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool and see if they don't catch anything. Good luck, and I really hope that I help at least one person with all of this lol.

    Jeff:
I have had both good and bad experiences with Acronis True Image. I got the recent copy of ATI via a Newegg.com bundle. I haven't tried it yet on any Windows 7 editing systems. ATI installs some services that I would rather not have running in the background.
What made you change from ATI to ShadowProtect Desktop Edition?
    Are you running Windows 7?
What do you see as advantages to running ShadowProtect Desktop Edition as opposed to Acronis True Image?
    Thanks

  • Can't open Adobe Premiere Elements 9

I've had some problems with Adobe Premiere Elements 9 recently, and right now I'm not able to use it. I'm not sure what the problem is really or how to fix it so I'll just write down what has happened here and hopefully someone knows what to do.
A week or so ago my laptop started to crash repeatedly, but fortunately that was solved. But then I noticed that when I opened Adobe Premiere Elements, that's when it crashed and only then. It stopped crashing altogether except for when I opened this program (if it is of any importance I also tried opening Windows Movie Maker to edit there in the meantime but the same thing happened there, which seems strange and kinda random to me). I decided to get an antivirus software and install that and see if that took care of it, which I have now done. That didn't exactly take care of it though. The laptop did stop crashing when opening the Adobe software, but nothing happens once it's opened. The tabs on the top right are there but the whole program is just grey (where you would normally have the timeline on the bottom, video to the left, and the files etc. to the right) and nothing else comes up. I then tried to uninstall Adobe Premiere Elements 9 from my laptop altogether and then re-install it with the CD I still had from purchasing the laptop a couple of years ago. But after re-installing there is no change. Just a grey screen once again, except for the tabs and all that on the top. Now I'm not sure what else to try. It's frustrating as I need this program to work right about now. Does anyone know what to do? Thanks.

From the Premiere Elements Information FAQ http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1042180
•What version of Premiere Elements? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Elements 12 with the 12.0.1 update).
•What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac"
•Has this ever worked before?  If so, do you recall any changes you made to Premiere Elements, such as adding Plug-ins, brushes, etc.?  Did you make any changes to your system, such as updating hardware, printers or drivers; or installing/uninstalling any programs?
•Are you using an account with Administrator Privileges?
Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 (Encore + "All" Premiere)
•Have you installed any recent program or OS updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
•What kind(s) of image file(s)? When talking about camera raw files, include the model of camera.
•If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
•What were you doing when the problem occurred?
•What other software are you running?
•Tell us about your computer hardware. How much RAM is installed?  How much free space is on your system (C:) drive?
    And some other questions...
•What are you editing, and does your video have a red line over it BEFORE you do any work?
•Which version of Quicktime do you have installed?
What is your exact brand/model graphics adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???)
What is your exact graphics adapter driver version?
Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself
    ATI Driver Autodetect http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool
    nVidia Driver Downloads http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Some of the below is for Premiere Pro, but the idea is the same for Premiere Elements
Dual video problems - Do you have dual graphics adapters?

  • Adobe Premiere CC Trial Version "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down." PLEASE HELP!

Every time I open any project in Adobe Premiere CC Trial Version, I get the message "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will try to save your project." I can't edit at all and am totally stuck. Please help!
It's terrible that this is happening on the trial version as it's making me want to go straight back to FCP! Also - I've tried switching external hard drive and that also doesn't work.
    Thank you!

  • XDCAM HD workflow with Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Macbook Pro

    Hi folks,
I have an assignment for a TV production to secure and convert the data (mxf files XDCAM HD 422 1080i 50 / 50 Mbit/sec with 8 audio channels) from Sony XDCAM camcorders (PDW-700) for postproduction.
The producer wants me to convert the mxf files during production to Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) for faster and smooth editing during postproduction.
I'm not sure about the final output yet, but I guess it will be either 720p50 or 1080i 25, since the production will be broadcast and as far as I know this is the standard for HD on German television. It is also not clear which NLE will be used for editing (usually one of the producers edits their projects with FCP, but this time they've got their hands full and are still looking for someone to outsource postproduction.
Unfortunately, my Macbook is getting fixed as we speak, so I can't try things out.
Since this is the first time I'm doing this workflow, could someone please check if I got everything right?
    1. Can someone please confirm that I can actually convert the mxf files using AME CC to Apple ProRes 422?
Or do I need to install any other tools/converters for this task? Does MPEG streamclip do the job? Any other freeware?
    2. When converting to Apple ProRes422, the producer suggested to deinterlace the footage (1080i 50) to 25p, if 720p or 1080p I have to find out tomorrow since our conversation got interrupted this afternoon.
In my opinion this doesn't make sense, though. First, if output to 1080i 25 it has to stay interlaced anyway. Second, in case the output will be 720p 50 I would edit the footage either natively or in Apple ProRes 422, but leave deinterlacing until the very end when outputting to the final format. This way I could use an advanced deinterlacer, e.g. the one from Magic Bullet Suite, rather than just checking some deinterlace box in the export settings for Apple ProRes 422.
The reason the producer suggested to deinterlace right away when using  an intermediate like ProRes was that she and the client got irritated by the jagged lines from the interlaced footage when editing the last project with the same requirements on a progressive display.
    3. What would be the best solution to tackle this issue (jagged lines) during editing?
As I said my Mac is getting fixed, so I have no way of trying things out,and I usually edit DSLR footage which is progressive anyway.
But if I remember correctly I can switch my monitor between 1080p and 1080i. This should do the trick, shouldn't it?
    4. Can I keep all of the 8 audio tracks when converting to ProRes using AME CC ?
    5. Is ProRes422 (HQ) really necessary, or is the regular quality sufficient for this kind of job?
    6. Let's assume the whole project would be edited within Adobe Premiere Pro CC and  system specs as stated below:
Since Adobe Premiere Pro CC has native support for  XDCAM HD is there any advantage of using an intermediate like ProRes at all?
How smooth is native editing with XDCAM HD in Premiere Pro CC? I don't think there will be more than 3-4 video tracks in use...
    Thanks for your help!

Thanks Jim! I knew there must be a reason xdcam is widely uses for eng aquistion :) I think they used FCP 6 or 7 on their last project... So what about monitoring interlaced footage on a progressive screen? Any advice on that? Is there a converter built in to APP CC that deinterlaces in realtime when monitoring interlaced sources on a progressive screen? And would you agree that deinterlacing source material is best left right before outputting?
