FCP application file is 40 GIGS!

Recently performed clean install on my MBPro to Leopard 10.5.6, clean install of FCP2 and upgraded it to 6.0.5. Everything working fine for about 3 months.
Installed free trial versions of FXFactory and Industrial Revolution filters/effects about a month ago. Recently have been getting error popups stating something about "autorender cannot complete - insufficient diskspace."
My system scratch disk is set to an external eSATA 2 Terabyte hard drive with about 1.4 T free. So I believe this autorendering is being done to my laptop internal drive which is a 100 G, 7200 rpm drive. It now has only 1.0 G free space on it.
In searching for large files to delete on my internal drive, I find that the FCP launcher file in the Applications folder (Final Cut Pro.app) is 40 GIGS big! Anybody know how that happens? A friend of mine with FCP2 says his file is only 340 MEGS.
How can I reduce the size of this single [compiled?] file?
I've cleaned up all other folders on my drives as best as possible.
How do I set the "autorender" target drive to my external drive?
Hate the thought of reinstalling FCP - it took a full 6 hours to do so last time.

Your renders are probably being written to the FCP app. This happens occasionally.
Since the app file is really just a folder with the contents hidden, you can look inside to see what's there. This is how.
• Find the app file on your system drive.
• Right click on it and select "Show package contents"
• That will open up and show the hidden files.
• Start looking through the folders for one that says something like "Capture Scratch" or "Render Files" or simply get the folders to order themselves by size and head for the largest one.
• You can safely delete the relevant folders.
• you start FCP again be sure to go to your System Settings and make sure the target drives for all your scratch material is set to the external.

How to burn a 1 gig FCP/QT file to a DVD?

Hello
Got to deliver a 1 gig FCP/QT mov to someone, how do I burn this to a DVD (won't fit on CD)? I don't need to go through DVD SP, they just want the FCP file, no menu, etc. Just the FCP QT file to import into their FCP system. I know I can't just drag the file from desktop to my blank DVD, so how to do this simply?

Great, thank you - so I have this nearly 2 gig file, I made it self-contained QT mov, FCP file. Do I just import that into DVD SP 4, choose to burn it to DVD and the guys on the other end will be able to extract it and import it into their FCP system?

FCP Project File & other Editing programs

G'day, I apologise if this has been brought up earlier but this is a question I've had for a while.
FCP projects obviously maintain the file extension .fcp for the file projects.
My question is can FCP open, use and edit other file projects such as those from Windows Movie Maker or Vegas which have extensions .wmm and .veg respectively?
And can those other editing programs such as Vegas open and operate FCP project files?
I'm currently operating from a university computer with the latest FCP software (FCP5) available.
All answers are greatly appreciated.

I've never tried, but I'm 99% sure you cannot simply open a project file from another program, and have FCP read it, and vice versa. Such things are not common practice among most applications (as it would require Apple licensing proprietary technology to competitors).
There are however, ways to do this. There is a plugin for Final Cut called Automatic Duck that provides import options between pro apps like FCP, Avid, After Effects, Combustion, etc. However, its not free, and would most likey not support an app like Vegas, and certainly not Windows Movie Maker.
The other way to do it is to utilize an Edit Decision List (EDL), which is a textual summary of all your edits and sequences in the project, and importing this along with your clips may allow another program to rebuild your project. I've never really needed to use one before, but I know FCP is capable of importing and exporting them (I would assume it uses XML). I have no idea how well EDLs are supported in Vegas, and I would assume that there is no support for them in WMM.

Fcp project file shown as exec

i have a project edited from a friend with fcp 7, he gave me all of the files so i can edit it. i use fcp X, but it shows the fcp project file as an exec file. (executable)
no f*cking chance to open it.
i dont get it! of course you should open an fcp 7 project file with fcp X, or i am wrong??

YYou're wrong. The project formats are completely different. You need to open the fcp7 project in the application and export an XML file. You then need to use the utility 7toX to convert the fcp7 XML into an XML version that can be read by FCPX. That converted XML can be imported into FCPX to create the project and its sequences in X.

How to open fcp 6 files in fcp x?

Am suresh and am new to fcp x. Previously i worked all my projects in fcp 6, now i want to change it in fcp x. I try to open the fcp 6 files in fcp x but there is no option to open that older version file in fcp x. Please help me to solve this. Or is there any conversion tool for convert fcp 6 to fcp x?

YYou need to use FCP 6.0.6 and export an XML file from that application. Then use the 7toX utility to convert the XML into a version that can be imported into FCPX.

Application files not working...please help.

I have an imac g3 400MHz when i start it up it goes through its normal starting phases but without any error messages and when the color screen pops up , it freezes so the only way i can start the computer is with extensions off. Once their any application file i try to open does not work but i do get messages that read for example:"The application "Apple DVD Player" could not be opened because "ControlStripLib" could not be found". Other messages read similiarly. Can you offer any suggestions or do you require further information about my problem?

Open the Servers folder inside the System Folder and throw away anything that you don't recognize, and restart your computer normally. If the issue persists, open the Extensions Manager control panel, turn off half of your extensions, and restart the machine. Repeat the process of turning off half of the remaining extensions and restarting until you've narrowed down the extension causing your issue.
The messages about items not being found are due to the extensions not being loaded.

How can I create an Install.exe(Application file)

I need urgent help on how to create an Install.exe (Application file) for my java programs.
I have compile the java file and run the programs within Jbuilder35 all worked well. I even created a single jar file for all the programs classes file. But my problem was how to create Install.exe (Application file) in other to be able to use it as an application in any computer.
I mean, for example: Jbuilder35 was developed with java file, and I installed (JBuilder Install.exe, application file) in my computer before I could be able to use it. That is exactly what I dont know how to do it with my java programs that I developed. Any help please?.

I downloaded the latest version of Firefox as requested. I was told to drag the icon to my Application file when prompted. The download was successful, but I never got the prompt. And so I still have the old version of Firefox (3.6.24) and the home page still tells me I'm using an out-dated version. So what do I do?

How to create a .mdf SQL Server database from a Data-Tier Application file that has data?

This is a noob question, though I do use SQL Server databases all the time with Entity Framework when I code in C# using Visual Studio 2013. The development environment is found below at [A]. I am trying to make a clone of a SQL Server 2008 R2
database (.mdf) that exists online. I can read, connect and work with this database in Visual Studio 2013, but I wish to make a local copy of the database, as an .MDF file. Somewhere in my notes I have a way of creating a local copy from
an online database when using Visual Studio but I forgot how (it seems, reviewing my notes, that it deals with ADO.NET which is deprecated in Visual Studio 2013 these days, or so it seems). So I'm looking for another way. What I did was create
(or export) a "Data-Tier Application File" from the online SQL Server database, with data, and it seems to have worked in that this Data-Tier Application file exists on my hard drive and seems to have data in it ("SQL Server Replication Snapshot"
is the format it seems). It contains skeleton code to create a database, but when I tried to execute it with SQL Server 2014 Management Studio, I got a bunch of errors.
So my question is:

(CRUD), but it remains online. Maybe there's a switch to make a local copy? I guess I could write a short program to suck all the data out of the online database and put it into a new, duplicate database having the same tables, that I create on
my localhost, but my question here is if there's an easier way than this, maybe a tool or command I can run from inside Visual Studio?
Any advice on any of the above questions is appreciated.

"2. what do you mean by online file?" - I mean the SQL Server database file is on a remote web server that I rent from, but I am not the administrator of. I can access my database using SQL Server Authentication, but nothing more.

FCP Project file won't open

Hello,
An FCP project file I worked on this past Friday suddenly won't open. When I try it immediately gives the helpful "general error" message. I tried opening the autosave files as well, with no luck. I tried renaming the project file and manually adding the .fcp extension, but still nothing. I'm not sure why it's doing this, since nothing unusual happened in the last few days. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Also, does anybody know where I can purchase an unused version of the FCP 5.0 bundle? I can't upgrade because of OS and processor restrictions on my old G5. And I can't buy a newer mac right now. All of my related FCP programs are starting to act buggy, and I don't have the install cds anymore. Any ideas?

Huh? According to the requirements for FCP 6, it needs A Macintosh computer with a 1.25GHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, Intel Core Duo, or Intel Xeon processor and Mac OS X v10.4.11 or Mac OS X v10.5.5 or later. How does your computer not fall into this range?

Since this is your friend's FCP project file, check to see if he/she has version 5.1.1 or above.
I think the project file is from a newer format.
For some reason, the bump from FCP 5.1 to 5.1.x was big enough to require the project files to be a different format.
If that is the case, (and if you want to take the chance on the unknown,) you can upgrade to the version your friend has (or above.)
Make sure you really want to upgrade and are prepared for all the potential problems!

Hosting Zenworks 7 Application Files On Windows Server?

We currently host our Zenworks packages on Netware 6.5 servers. Our Zen7 is also installed on a Netware 6.5 server so we are running Novell Client 4.91 SP2 and the Zenworks agent on our Windows XP SP3 desktops (no middle tier).
We are now in the process of moving to Active Directory, and one of the first steps will be to migrate file services over to Windows shares. We currently use either the MSI feature of NAL to elevate rights or we use unsecured system user to elevate rights as our users are not Administrators of their workstations. We associate our application objects to either user container, user group, or simply invidual users. Our login scripts map drive letters to our Netware shares. Our MSI objects in NAL access the packages via the mapped drive letter while our normal objects (unsecured system user) access them by UNC path or by using application file distribution feature of NAL.
Questions:
Will there be any issues with moving the application files from Netware to Windows? What file permissions would we have to grant on the Windows side to allow the Zenworks agent to access the file shares? I know on the Netware side, we would grant read rights to the file share to the same containers, users, or groups that have access to the application object. We also granted our workstations container access to certain directories so that the unsecured system user could access the shares via UNC path. I've seen some discussion on the forums about using the built-in Everyone account on the Windows side. Would there be additional accesses required? What about the security implications of granting Everyone read access to these shares? I'm just trying to get an idea of what would be needed on the Windows side to allow Zenworks to keep working. Obviously we'll probably be keeping our eDirectory infrastructure at least until all phases of the migration are complete.

You can Grant FileSystem Rights to DomainWorkstationObjects just as you
granted rights to ZENworks Workstation Objects.
These rights will be used by processes running in the SYSTEM space.
The result should be that there would be little issue with using a
Windows Share in lieu of a NetWare share for ZDM7.

Transfering FCP Document files to a windows comp..I can't get it. Help!!!!!

I transfered all the fcp document files to my windows desktop computer over the network to free up some space on my mac, thinking I would be able to use the files later on on my mac thru the network. The files aren't shown in fcp file types but in exec, it wont open using imovie or final cut pro. Just wondering if there's a way to make it work. In another words can u use a windows computer to store fcp document files and then access it from a Mac over a network?

For A, that's what you do when you install your PC. I think (but I'm no PC expert) there is a utility to convert from FAT32 to NTSC available in Windows.
For B, I think it's available in server or pro versions of Windows, but I'm not sure.
For C, try Connect to server in the Finder and type: afp:/at/YourPCname
You can also try: afp://YourPCdnsName
Or your PC's IP address (not this address): afp://123.21.43.12
Once you got your files back on the Mac, you can fix the destroyed file info with my File Fixers:
