FCP crash while copying clips between sequences

Any insights as to why FCP crashes when I copy clips (overlay) from a small sequence into a larger sequence? I'm doing this by the drag/drop method.

The copy and paste suggestion is good... however I'm not crashing when I tried this just now... a drag and drop between sequences, so figure something's up. I'm running the universal version of FCP however.
Post back with the results of the copy and paste.
Are the sequences in the same project file?

Copying clips between Sequences in Premiere Pro CS6

Had to go back to Premiere CS6 because CC started crashing when viewing a clip in the Source window. Have to get work done so I went back to an older file in CS6. In CS6, I had two sequences I was working between and when I would copy clips from one to the other, I would lose audio on the sequence where the clips were going (video is viewble though). I could here it fine until I closed the project (after saving) and opened it later. The projects are identical, just one had a few tweaks to the edit. Same clips in the Bin. Any way of updating, relinking clips, fixing this issue?

Seaspray - I will let the experts correct any bad advice here and perhaps I am adding nothing you already don't know or are doing. I recently went through the same exercise being new to PP CS6. Is that footage interlaced? I first drug a sample clip to the New Item button to create a matching sequence. I had some issues when I wasn't being careful about sequence settings matching, particularly putting interlaced in a progressive sequence. When I was ready to export, I chose the H.264 Blu-ray preset closest to my source footage. I made sure the key video characteristics matched - frame size, frame rate, progressive vs. interlaced, if the latter upper or lower, PAR, etc. etc. In some cases I tweaked VBR vs. CBR and bit rates. I then produced separate .m2v and .wav video/audio files. Then I imported those files as assets into Encore. You should then see Encore tell you it does not need to encode the video or audio after analysis. Unfortunatley, this process does require one encoding, but I don't believe there is anyway around that matter as PP CS6 apparently does not support "smart rendering". However, I think with just one encoding you are not going to see your footage noticeably degraded. Agreed, none of the monitors in PP or Encore should be used to judge quality. I also noticed major differences playing back files on my PC with various media players vs. PS3 + big TV.

FCP Crashes while using Magic Bullet Looks

Hi All,
We have recently installed Magic Bullet Looks onto our main edit machine. However, using it causes FCP to crash with really annoying regularity. It seems to be related to either auto save or thumbnails (opening a sequence with Looks applied and it will crash while loading the thumbnails onto the timeline for example - that could be a coincidence as it crashes in many other situations as well but always when working with MBL))
I've tried the usual preference trashing things but can't stop it happening. Anyone had any similar issues that they've been able to resolve? We aren't yet running Snow Leopard but I may try that as a potential solution.
If it matters - the machine is dual 3.2 quad core with 6GB of RAM running FCP 7. It also has a Blackmagic Extreme card (tried turning external video off - no difference)
All thoughts greatly appreciated,

Couldn't agree more Jim - hence why I'm not using Snow Leopard yet as I had a nightmare in the early adoption of an older operating system. As for MBL, there seem to be many using it without problems so I don't think it's an issue with the product per say and it really is a very good plug-in. (That view will change to excellent once the problems go away) I just need to get to the bottom of which square peg is destined for which round hole and I'm hopeful that all will be well. I've also submitted a support question to Magic Bullet so will update if I get a solution. I like the CleanApp idea. I'll try that as well. (and I may even give Snow Leopard a go!)

FCP crashes while exporting to Compressor??

I have a clip and it gets about half way done compressing and then FCP crashes. I could use a droplet, which I've done in the past, but it's been giving me some issues as well.
I'm exporting HDV footage and in compressor I'm using the generic 90 Best DVD and have tweaked with the setting some. Any idea to why this may be happening? It seems to only do it with this one particular project. The clip is only about 20 minutes long and it's saying it will take 17 hours to compress???? Why so long??? How long should it take for a 20 minute HDV clip in compressor?

Thanks David. Yes I have three external drives that I export all my footage to and I don't use my internal drive to store any footage.
Another quick question. If you don't recommend exporting directly to Compressor from FCP. Then how do I compress from an exported clip with chapter marks? I've tried to export from FCP using Markers BUT it does not add the markers in the Quicktime clip. The only time I export out of FCP to Compressor is when I have a lot of chapter marks on the time line. I could be doing something wrong but I can't find a way to export a Quicktime clip and keep the chapter markers.

Copy/Paste Clip between Sequences - Only one frame appears?

Hi all. A strange thing has started happening in FCP 7...not always but frequently. When I have two sequences open, I go to the first sequence and copy a clip. I go to the second and paste the clip and it shows up as very thin (one frame). I can then drag the end of it to make it longer but why doesn't it just paste the same length that it was copied?

Do you have any In and Out points marked in the timeline? When you do the copy function what area is highlighted in the timeline or selected?

Error/Crash while dragging movieclip image sequence to stage

While trying to drag a movie clip to the stage containing a jpg sequence of 360 images at 1024x768 I get an error (or sometimes it just crashes) saying "Could not open one or more scenes probably because of low memory." I am using a dual quad core mac pro with 48gb of ram, with no other programs open, so this seems unlikely. This is in Flash CS5 (11.0.2.489) on Mac OS 10.7.4. No other symbols or files are in the library and nothing else is on the stage. I've tried it with multiple different image sequences (same resolution, same count), and I always have the same problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe adding rhe movieclip with code
in the libary (F11) add a name in AS Linkage (some like Sequence)
then type the code (F9)

addChild(sequence);

Error Message when copying text between sequences

I hadn't had this issue until updating to the most recent version of FCP. Basically, I am trying to copy text from one segment to another. The text has edge wipe transitions at their heads and tails. I get a message that says 'This edit cannot be done because a transition would be cut or an item to one side of a transition would become too short.' I don't see why this would be the case since I am copying the entire file, including the transitions and I am pasting it on a place in the sequence where nothing could affect the length. I'd be really interested to hear if anyone has ideas on how to overcome this. Thanks.

I get this too...oddly. Copy the text WITHOUT the transitions on the head and tail, then add them later.

Sending back to FCP from Color no clips no sequence

So I am sure i am missing the blindingly obvious but would appreciate some help.
I am new ish to color but have read the manual and taken the Macpro video 1.5 training DVD to try and get up to speed.... Here is my problem:
I am sending a multiclip sequence to color (1080i pro res render). The clips appear in color and i am able to grade and render all OK.
When i send back to FCP i get a new sequence and new bin labeled with the clips.
however the sequence is empty and the bin contains a bunch of off line media. I can locate the new clips using finder but they are roughly 4 times the size of the original....

What version COLOR? Multiclip is advertised to be functionally supported by COLOR 1.5, but it is not supported in any previous version. I am not familiar with the MacPro training DVDs, so I'm not assuming that it is tied to the current version.
When you say that they "render all OK"... are you sure about that? Why are the new clips about 4x the size of the original? That doesn't register as "OK" with me....
It could be a codec issue (doubt it) and it could be a speed remap issue (why not compound a known problem with another one?) and then it could be a renderqueue misdirection...

I have a library of Shared clips. I try to copy a clip to another library and I get the Missing File indicator in the target library. Why?

Where does my media go after I update?
Media that you stored inside your original event is stored inside your new library. Media that was linked to an external folder and not copied inside your original event stays in that external folder and is linked to your new library.
Is media duplicated as part of the update process?
No. During the update process, Final Cut Pro creates links between the new Final Cut Pro 10.1 library and the media files in your old projects and events. If you delete your old project and event files, the media files remain in the new Final Cut Pro 10.1 library. If you delete the new Final Cut Pro 10.1 library, the media files remain in your old projects and events. By using these links, Final Cut Pro does not have to copy media files or use additional disk space.

Mail crashes while copying

For the last couple of days, Mail crashes whenever I try to copy text. The text does not make it to the clipboard; I've tried this with different messages and it happens every time. Should I go through the pain of reinstalling?
This may have been going on for a while, I only normally copy passwords and the like...

Try this to determine the scope of the problem:
1. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts, and create a new user account for testing purposes.
2. Either log out of your main user account or just quit Mail so that it does not interfere with the other user account.
3. Log in as the newly created user and set up Mail anew there.
4. If this is a POP account, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced and disable Remove copy from server after retrieving a message.
5. Check whether the problem also happens when logged in as another user.

Error while copy query between infocubes

I was trying to copy a query between infocubes and ended with error message.
Query copied from Infocube A to Infocube B. Infocube B has an additional dimension with 2 char's when compared to infocube A.
Using transaction RSZC, I tried to copy the query, but ended up with following error..
1.Program error in class COPY_QRY_TO_CUBE method : UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION
2.An exception with the type CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB occurred, but was neither handled locally, nor declared in a RAISING clause
3.The system tried to insert a data record, even though a data record with the same primary key already exists
I also tried using function module RSZ_I_COPY_QRY_TO_CUBE, which was of no help. I get the following message with the function module...
1. Program error in class RS_TESTFRAME_CALL method : UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION
2. An exception with the type CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB occurred, but was neither handled locally, nor declared in a RAISING clause

I have also tried a solution in BW expert by using debugging mode of the above function module, again this was of no help..

Are you trying to copy Business Content delivered Queries?
I had also got this error when copying over all queries from one cube to another. Reason for this message was plain simple - I did not realise that the sender Cube had Business Content Query which we cannot copy over using RSZC as system tries to create another query with suffix as 0****_1. We cannot create query in SAP user namespace. Error message is different then the reason behind it.

Indesign CS6 crashes when copying pages between documents

I have two documents and I want to copy 28 pages from one to the other. Indesign crashes on any form of attempt. What I tried so far:
1. Copy pages per drag and drop, ID would then ask where to insert, I selected "at the end". Crash.
2. Save both documents as IDML, then opened the IDMLs, saved as INDD (to erase possible document structure corruptions), closed and opened both INDDs again, then drag and drop. Crash.
3. Selected the 28 pages from the source document, selected "Insert pages" from mini menu of pages panel, then set what pages to use, where to put ("At the end") and target (the other document). Crash
4. Tried both, "Insert pages" and drag 'n drop, with different target position "At the beginning". Crash.
5. Saved a copy of the source document, reduced it to contain only those 29 pages I want to copy, then drag and drop to target. Crash.
6. Tried vice versa, means copy all target document's pages to the source document. Crash.
Any idea how I can get the pages over to the target? There is unfortunately no "Append pages from file" in the mini menu.

I would try another one with each of these documents.
Create a new document with 2 pages.
Name the master pages so, that their names are not conflicting with neither of these 2 document’s masters.
Delete every style in that empty document, also any swatch
No drag the pages of the first document into such an empty document.
Do the same step 1 to 4 with the second document in a NEW empty document.
Now you have 2 new documents. Take care that no conflicting master names appear.
In each of these documents create in each style panel a folder and drag all used styles in that folder.
Save both documents
Try again to insert the pages of both documents.
Otherwise, it this does not work out, could you send me via private message the files or a link. I would check it with a Debugging Version of InDesign (InDesign DEV) I can use to find errors.

Flash CS3 crashing with copy/paste between 2 files

Hi.
I am a flash games developer, and I am currently working on a game that is truly massive.
The main file size is over 250MB.
It's been a work in progress for about 4 months of solid work.
Due to the size of the file, I prefer to create things like characters and objects in another file. I then need to import it over, replacing old movieclips.
When copying and pasting now, it always crashes, or tells me that its run out of virtual memory.
It appears to be impossible to get it all over, even bit by bit.
I've saved and compacted, I've saved as, I've moved it onto another disk drive.
All of the above seemed to help temporarily, but I'm now at a stage where nothing is working.
I don't think the file is corrupted in anyway. I've had no problems with any other component of flash. Just the copying.
I just don't understand what's so intensive about moving over an object of about 10-20 mb.
My computer is quite high performance, 5.6ghz, 4gb of ram.
I've asked for help on so many forums now, and all i get is criticism at my file size. Well it can't be helped. It's a massive game.
I've tried using a runtime shared library, but unfortunately it doesn't allow attachmovie to get it from the library. It seems the identifier is only being used to connect the 2 libraries when you set up a runtime shared library.
attachmovie is very important to the code and it can't be done any other way.
Please please help.

Ok, So I was getting frustrated so I copied the file I was
working on onto a thumb drive. Just for the heck of it I tried
opening and running it from the thumb drive and for some reason it
works! I really can't figure out why though. Same computer and
everything but if I just read straight from the USB key it works
completely fine. I'm really confused with this problem now. I also
am getting the same crashing error when I open certain files from a
certain folder.
I'm running XP. I refuse to update to Vista :)
but it seems that we are having the same problem despite the
different Operating systems. So this is a very interesting
problem...
Any one else have any help tips for us?

Finder crashes while copying many files.

Upgraded to 10.7 (Lion) and trying to copy about 300 GB of files from 1 external drive to another external drive and Finder continues to crash.
I've tried copying smaller chunks and it works fine up to about 9 GB, when it seems to crash.. forcing me to restart the copy process.
Is there a limit to the amount of data that I can copy in a single batch?

I rountinely backup large chunks of data from my Mac Pro to two external OWC VoyagerQ Firewire hard drives (800). When I say large I mean anywhere from 50GBs to 500GBs at a time. Under 10.2-10.6 I could start one copy and then the second, simple Finder copies mind you, and after the interminable file counting BOTH copies would proceed SIMULTANEOUSLY. Made it as simple as pie to walk away and come back knowing my data was now in three places.
Under LION the same process has become hopeless. Following the same procedures above now results in the FIRST copy having to complete BEFORE the SECOND copy can commence. Are you kidding me? A doubling of the time I have to spend backing things up? Before Apple faults my setup or something, I have five VoyagerQs and three FireWire 800 ports, and have tried the two backup drives chained, on separate FW channels, even with one inernal and one external and the same thing happens. I suspect that this is related to Thunder^^^^ and is something APPLE has got to fix fast or a lot of folks are going back to 10.6. Be interesting to see how the Mothership responds. Kill the messenger is most likely.
