FCP Crashes "quits" after partial loading of project.

Question

After reinstalling the OS and the program.
FCP ran perfect.
I took a 3 day break from editing, now the project will not completely load.
I get exactly 41% in, then it quits. (1.2mb total size)
Will trashing the preferences work?

OK, this may not be simple. FCP wil sometimes seem to keep track of files moved within the same drive. But try this: Locate the folder where all your media is on your hard drive. Move it to another folder. It would be better if you kept your media on an external drive if at all possible, so perhaps the solution is to purchase an external firewire drive (make sure it's formatted macosextended or reformat the drive to macosextended) and move your media to it. Be aware of the distinction on the mac between moving files and copying files. When you drag files between drives, you are copying them. When you drag files between locations on the same drive, you are moving them. If you move the files to an external drive, you will have to delete the original files to break the link in fcp. Reconnecting the files should not be a problem once we get past the project load problem.
