FCP does not recognise firewire device

Hi
I'm using Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 and it won't properly recognise external devices through firewire. On log and capture it will control the device (play/forward etc) but no preview is available in log and capture window.
In Video Playback Settings within Audio/Video Settings it at first said (Missing Apple Firewire PAL), but now it won't even see that. I have tried Refresh A/V Devices to no effect, I have also tried 2 different devices (DV deck and camcorder) and different firewire ports on the computer, all to no effect.
I have exactly the same external set-up (in fact the devices are shared between them) on a old G4 and that works without problem.
Any ideas?

Hi, I am using FCP 6.0.4 and am having the same problem as you had but I'm not even able to see anything in preview or control it (reads no communication). Did you find a solution that may help me?

Go to Finder > Preferences then select the General tab
Make sure External disks is selected.

Does not recognise ipod device

the lead works fine with a 3rd gen ipod but with my 2gb original it does not recognise the usb device Is there a difference in the cables?

Windows XP does not recognise USB devices after installing itunes 7.2

After downloading itunes 7.2 my PC no longer recognises my ipod nano (2G, 2Gig). Uninstalling itunes 7.2 and reverting to a previous version makes no difference.
On top of this my PC no longer recognises my external USB 2.0 HDD.
Uninstalling and allowing windows to rediscover USB devices \ hubs etc as per MS recomendations has not resolved my problem
Both devices function with no issues when plugged into my laptop.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this will be greatly received!

Power down and wait... does not solve the "USB Device Not Recognized" problem in my desktop running XP Professional.
All five USB Root Hubs are stucked. I tried uninstalled them all and let XP to find new devices but afterwards the problem still remains.
By the way, I have a thousand songs stored in the iPod Nano (2nd generation). Will iPod reset erase all my songs?

Camera wizard does not recognise any devices with a camera attached when trying to transfer photos from iPhone 5s.

iTunes recognises my iPhone 5s attached, but does not come up with the scanner/camera wizard giving me the option to upload pictures. I've tried going to control panel on the computer to try and open it that way, but it does not acknowledge that any devices with a camera are attached. It gives me the option to manually add one, but then it gets too technical for me. Anyone any ideas? Help will be greatly appreciated. - Thanks

FMLE not Recognising Firewire Device

Hi,
I am trying to get my Canon XH A1 to connect to the Flash Media Live Encoder usinig Firewire 800. When I launch FMLE, i get an error saying 'no video capture device detected. Please check if your video devices are connected properly and not used by another application'.
I have tested the firewire connection. Its working fine, i can see my camera output in various applcations that i've tested. Can anyone tell me if there is a setting somewhere that I need to set the capture feed to Firewire? I can't see anything in the help files.
Its a Mac with OSX 10.6.4 that i'm running.

I had the same issue not that long ago. For me it turned out that the pins in the FW port on my camera were a little out of line. I had never used the DV port on the camera so I ruled it out, but after exhausting everything else I looked at them and it was almost obvious. So, I say check that first! If I knew how I would put the link here to the other thread on my issue. Many people posted things to help track down the problem. Look in the iMovie HD forum for stuff.

FCP 3 Not Recognizing Firewire Device

After six years FCP doesn't see the clamshell deck it's always known. Or a camera. Thru three different ports. I've just downgraded from QT 7 back to QT 6.5.2. Any corollary? Or could the cable just have died? Seems unlikely, huh?

The link that Al posted is most likely the problem - FCP uses Quicktime to do its capturing, so no matter what rev of FCP you are running, if you have a dorked Quicktime install, you usually get the kind of errors you are experiencing.

IPod Nano: Error Message "The USB device has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it"

Hi everyone, I just received 2 brand new iPod Nanos for my kids for Christmas, thought I'd be smart and sync them both now before wrapping them so I don't have to be messing around with them on the day. One synced without a problem, then using the same cable, same computer, same USB port, the 2nd one came up with "The USB device has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it" I've tried restarting my computer, unplugging and reinserting the USB. Is there anthing else I can try before returning it? Thanking you for any help.

I have solved my problem, I ended up ringing Apple and got an awesome lady who told me to reset it by pressing the sleep button and menu button together for about 10 seconds and once it actually turned on for the first time the computer then recognised it, so it's all good, :-) Thank you lovely lady!

there is a good chance that this can be related to bad contact in USB lead.. e.g not enough power from IPOD to PC so that pc cannot recognise it. Where I work I get alot of USB devices on pc's that are not recognised and most of the time it is the connection to the device that is not good enough because the flat end of the USB adapter has been gradually bent over time just slightly and now contact is not good. It can also be todo with drivers or If you are using it through a USB hub.
so if it is not working through USB hub try direct. also try in back of PC as these Ports or direct access to main board to pc and would be less trouble some if there was a voltage loss from mainboard in pc to front of unit.

Please check if the following suggestions help:
First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:
1. Click "Start" button, type “devmgmt.msc” (without quotation marks) in the “Search” bar and press "Enter". Click “Continue”
if necessary.
2. In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".
3. Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.
If the issue persists, please check if it can be resolved by running
System File Checker.
