FCP doesn't recognize Motion project file

I've almost completed the lessons in the Apple Pro Training Series "Motion".
When I get to the last lesson and try to import my motion file into Final Cut HD - all motion files are greyed out and not available for import.
What do I need to do to be able to import Motion files into FCP?
Dual 2 GHz Power PC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   512 MB DDR SDRAM

If you only have the trial version of Motion, it does
not support integration.
Do you have the full version?
I am having the same problem with a registered FCP Studio suite. Greyed out .motn files on the import requester.
When I change the "Import File" requester selection to All Files and select a .motn file, I get the error message "File Error: 1 files(s) not recognized, assess denied, 1 unknown."
I have tried re-registering, deleting FCP prefs, repairing permissions, running cron scripts, re-booting.
No good so far.
This is on a two day old, format and complete fresh install partition.
OS 10.4.6, QT 7.0.4, FCP 5.0.4, Motion 2.0.1
G5 Dual 2.0, 5.5GB RAM, 2TB RAID   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   FCP5 Suite, CineWave, Boris, blah, blah ...

  • FCP opening anamorphic motion project files as 4:3

I have a 720x480 anamorphic motion template which I need to place in a 720x480 anamorphic FCP sequence. FCP is automatically distorting the template, when I open it in the viewer (prior to dropping it into the timeline). It looks 4:3.
When I drop it in the timeline, it is squished. The distort value is 33%. Anamorphic is unchecked in the browser. I know how to fix it once it's already in the sequence, but seeing as I have several hundred of these templates to use, I'd prefer to have FCP open it correctly.
It does the same thing with motion project files, not just the templates.
Anyone know a way to correct this in FCP?

Ok, but for my workflow, I need to use motion templates, not project files. There is no way to correct this in the browser for a template. I need it to just come in 16:9.
If I want SD footage in a 16:9 format (pillarboxed) what size do I make the sequence? Should it be some custom size that is not anamorphic, yet still much wider than tall?
I need to standardize all my sequences (whether they are 16:9 footage or not), so that I can use one set of motion templates, which will be 16:9. Should the motion templates then be created in this same custom size?

  • •TIP - Open Motion Project File In QT Pro

Not sure if everyone already knows this but you can open a motion project file in QT Pro.
For this one project I had to export QT files from Motion. It was taking forever and was playing around and discovered that if you open the motion file from QT player and did an export it was much faster.
The export from motion took 54 min...when using the QT method it took 5 min.
    Why?
Who cares, it was faster and looked great.
If you already know this trick..great, if you dont I suggest giving it a try if you need a faster solution.
    Cheers!

I've tried that. I think there might be a bug in QT Pro (PC) or for some reason my QT Pro can't handle an .ac3 file. I just upgraded QT Pro to 7.5.5 and now I get different behavior. Basically, I'm getting no audio at all even though I've chosen "Add to Movie" properly. I think the problem might be that QT Pro isn't able to recognize my .ac3 file. If I playback the .ac3 file in QT by itself, I don't hear anything at all. I don't have a 5.1 sound card in my computer, but shouldn't I at least be able to hear two channels? Do I need anything special installed (hardware or software codecs) to playback an .ac3 file with QT Pro?

  • I have Lightroom 4 and a new 70D camera and when I try to important my photos Lightroom says it doesn't recognize my CR2 files.  I have downloaded plugin for the camera, but it still doesn't work.  Can you help?

I have Lightroom 4 and a new 70D camera and when I try to important my photos Lightroom says it doesn't recognize my CR2 files.  Can someone help?  I have downloaded 8.3 from Adobe, but still doesn't work?

Lightroom doesn't use the Camera Raw plug-in. All of the Camera Raw technology is part of the Lightroom program. You will either have to upgrade to Lightroom 5 or use the DNG converter to create digital negative copies that can be used with Lightroom 4.

  • Help! Bridge CS4 doesn't recognize 7D RAW files!

I just got a new computer, it has Vista on it. I installed my Adobe Photoshop and Bridge (CS4) on the desktop, and it won't read the images from my 7D. I downloaded the ACR and DNG converter 5.6, installed it, restarted my computer, and Bridge still doesn't recognize the RAW files. What else can I do? I need to access them ASAP! Thanks

Look for and download the Adobe DNG Converter version 8.6.  No need to be running such an old obsolete version as you reference.
The Adobe DNG Converter is a stand-alone application that is in no way tied to your version of Photoshop.  You not only download it and install it, but you also have to launch it separately and run it on each folder containing raw files from your Canon camera.  Note that it will not recognize individual files, only the folder that contains them.
However, you shouldn't need the DNG Converter it if you update your ACR Plug-in to the latest version, ACR 5.7.
The Adobe auto updater was and remains utterly unreliable—I'd even say useless—in CS4.  You must locate the ACR update at the Adobe site yourself and apply it manually.
This is the URL for the Mac update, I don't do windows, so you'll have to search for the Win version yourself:
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 5.7 update

I don't know who you talked to, but some of the support techs tend to look at CS5 as "no longer sold or supported" and usually don't want to mess with it.
We are mostly user-volunteers and have time to help you out. Some of us get perks from Adobe, but we are not employees.
I actually gave you the links to the two very important CS5 updates, but you want to peruse this general list Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows
and get the Bridge CS5 updates as well. Adobe - Bridge : For Windows

  • Blackberry Desktop Software doesn't recognize my .rem files on my SD media card. Cannot sync them to my Mac.

    Hi,
I'm experiencing this problem where Blackberry Desktop Software for Mac 2.3.0 (build 12)  doesn't recognize my .rem files (video and photo) on my SD media card (the Desktop Software app does show that file space on the media card is being used). Therefore, these files cannot be synced, decrypted, and viewed on my computer. I can see them on phone. I do have mass storage mode turned on and I can see the .rem files in the video and photo folders when my phone is connected to my computer. I can copy them to my Mac but since they aren't decrypted, I cannot view them.
I'm going to buy a new phone and I need to get these files off my current phone.  I have a Tour 9630 with BB  OS 5.0 bundle 1600.
I've tried backing up, reformatting the media card, wiping, and restoring but nothing has worked.
Is there any kind of utility that will let me decrypt the files on my computer? Should I try Blackberry Desktop Software for Windows?
I'm hoping someone can provide some suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    Hey jack_clarke,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Make sure mass storage mode is enabled on the BlackBerry: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB13564
If this is disabled you won't be able to access your media card from the computer.

  • FCP crashes when opening particular project file

I have one particular FCP project file that crashes each time I try to open it. I have read other threads and tried to follow their suggestions, but to no avail. I have tried opening it on different computers (both PowerPC and Intel), disconnecting hard drives (to keep media offline), creating a new user, etc. None of it works. The file will not even get to the "Preparing Video" stage before the spinning beach ball appears and FCP crashes. Thanks for your help! I have included the error message below:

Hi, thanks for the response.  The project was actually finished in v2, but I wanted to open it in v7 as a reference.  I don't want (and shouldn't) have to keep all previous versions of the software installed on my system so that I may be able to open project files. Most software programs I work with are backwards compatible or provide some means of upgrading files to newer format.  Can you imagine how things would be if Word Doc format became unusable with each MS Word release?  :-)
In this particular case, Pre7 shouldn't be crashing like it is.  Ideally, it should recognize a previous version project file and either update it automatically or drop features no longer supported (with some message to the user or log file generated).  The error message is ambiguous at best and pretty useless as it didn't really help in identifying the root cause of the problem.  This is likely the result of some uncaught exception when the program parses the .prel project file and finds an element attribute it doesn't expect (version "3" instead of "4").

  • FCP doesn't recognize .motn

Just in the last week or so, FCP has taken a strong dislike to Motion. When I select a clip and do "Send to Motion" with "Embed Motion Content" and "Launch Motion" checked, I get the error: "File Error: Wrong Type."
Same error with "Launch Motion" unchecked.
If I uncheck "Embed Motion Content" Motion boots up and I do my work, but when I save and then try to Import the project I get: "File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown)" and no .motn project imported
I've tried changing the access rules for the folder, and that didn't help. I tried trashing the FCP preferences and the Motion preferences, but that didn't seem to help. I'm really out of ideas. I know I can always render QTs and use them, but I'd like to have the ability to use .motn files right in the timeline.
Anybody have any ideas about this one? Any help would be sorely appreciated.

I seem to be having the exact same issue. I have a series of clips, 4 frames each clip, for a 1 minute piece in a timeline. If I select the clips, go to the "Send to Motion" function and leave "Embed Motion Content" and "Launch Motion" checked, it will prompt me to save, then boom pops up with the exact same error. My timeline is a 23.98 time at 4x3.
Not sure why it is doing this. Have used this function before without issue.

  • FCP doesn't recognize device

Suddenly I can no longer capture clips because my computer doesn't recognize the capturing device(s) (Sony GV-D1000).
I have tried this on two of my computers with two different capturing devices.
I suspect some sort of download upgrade is the culprit as it is suddenly happenning on two computers.
All of the firewire ports recognize other external hard drives (Under System Profile/Hardware/Firewire) but not the GV-D1000 or the PD150 camera, and so it appears that the ports are okay.
User groups say to remove the QuickTime receipt files - I have done this.
The A/V -> DV Out is set to off.
Computers are G4 and a Power Book.
Is there a QuickTime update or some other recent update that would cause this? What else should I look for? How do I get rid of the upgrade?
If I need to uninstall and reinstall QuickTime Pro, which I have already paid for, how do I do this without paying for QuickTime Pro again?

  • Elements 9 Organizer - doesn't recognize .mrw format files

Using Elements 9 Organizer - it doesn't recognize .mrw file formats when imported to organizer, yet the documentation seems to clearly indicate that it should.  Is there some sort of setting that is preventing it from doing what it professes to do?

When trying to import the contents of the folder, it does nothing and tell you that the folder didn't contain any recognized file types OR the files were already imported.  Okay, so searching around I found it was the latter and not the former.  (it seems the app could tell you).  BUT, it doesn't tell you where those files are.  Very funny - but not.

  • FCP doesn't recognize VTR mode on HVX camera

I'm new to FCP7 and can't figure out why log and capture doesn't recognize the VTR mode on my Panasonic HVX. I turn on the camera, switch it to VTR (by pressing the MCR/VCR button) and the launch FCP with my MBP connected to the camera by FireWire. When I launch L&C and the click on the now button, I get a black screen that says the camera must be in VTR mode. Yet when I launch iMovie, the capture window will play and record the video on the camera just fine. The video is on a miniDV tape. I don't have a P2 card so can't try that method.

    L&C!  Did that work?
Works for you & I can do it from my MBP, but evidently not from my iPad.  Weird.
OK...the thing you need to do first in FCP is choose the DV/NTSC Easy Setup. THEN try to capture from tape.
Yeah, did that first.  I'll try again when I get home tonight.

  • Anamorphic motion project file into FCP

I created a 16:9 project in motion - 720x480, pixel aspect ratio NTSC D1/DV anamorphic. When I bring it into FCP I want it to fill the screen. I tried the following sequence settings with the following results:
    720x480 NTSC CCIR 601 anamorphic 16:9 - I got a pillarbox
    640x480 NTSC CCIR 601 anamorphic 16:9 - narrower pillarbox
    720x540 NTSC CCIR 601 anamorphic 16:9 - windowbox
I know if I check anamorphic in the browser I can get it to fit, but what about when it is a motion template? It doesn't appear in the browser.

Thanks. I still find myself having to go into motion and delete the distort settings. Can you confirm my workflow? I'm creating approximately 400 templates, so I'd like to do this correctly the first time (actually the tenth).
I would like to create 16:9 templates which can be used with either 16:9 or 4:3 footage in a FCP timeline. Point being, I don't want to create 400 16:9 templates, and 400 4:3 templates. My plan is to use 16:9 sequences for everything and then letterbox it in DVDSP, so that it will show up either way.
I have fades, or wipes to black at the end of every template, so I don't have to worry about odd dissolves into mismatched frame sizes.
Is there a custom sequence setting I should be using in FCP to get around having to click anamorphic every time? I would like to be able to simply drop in the motion template without any further tweaking.

  • CS3 doesn't recognize Nikon Raw files in Yosemite

Since updating to Yosemite on my MacBook Pro, CS3 no longer works properly.
Instead of thumbnails, Bridge displays icons for Nikon NEF images. When I click on the icon, I’m told “Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file.”
When I attempt to open the image directly through Photoshop, I’m presented with a Photoshop Raw Options window asking me to describe the dimensions of the image. (I don’t know how to do anything other than guess at the size, and when the image opens, it looks like grey noise on an old TV screen.)
I’ve reinstalled CS3 but the problems remain.

    That did the trick.
I followed the instructions for manually installing the Camera Raw 4.6 plug-in
Adobe - Photoshop : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 4.6 update
I had to purge the cache in Bridge, and once I did, the generic thumbnails became proper images.
Thanks again for your help. I'll think twice next time before updating my operating system.

  • Photoshop Elements 6.0 Camera Raw doesn't recognize my .RW2 files.

I downloaded the CameraRaw.8bi file, version 5.4.0.57 and copied it into: Program Files\Common Files\\Adobe\Plug-ins\CS2\File Formats after copying the old version to a safe place. I executed the CameraProfiles.exe program that was included in the ZIP file I downloaded. Elements 6 does not recognize my file format. I have a Panasonic LUMIX FZ28 that uses the .RW2 raw file format. The LUMIX FZ28 is included as a camera that this Raw Converter handles. The Read Me instructions for the install has the path as: Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-ins\CS3\File Formats, so I renamed my CS2 folder to CS3 and tried that, NO GO, still won't recognize  the RW2 format, then I renamed the folder back to CS2. I don't know what else to do!! Can someone please help me? Thanks, Smokey Joe.

Camera RAW goes another place for Elements, not in the Photoshop Creative Suite subfolders.  Scroll down further until you see a section specific to PSE 6 on Windows, or there are instructions on this page about 2/3 of the way down:
