FCP Effect help

im looking for a glitter effect that will make it look like some one is sprinkling glitter onto someone else. it doesnt have to be to realistic but i only want it in a certain area of the clip. anyone know where i can download one or something similar to that?

Which FCP effects are used by pros for talking head corporate videos?

I'm trying to create a 'corporate' talking head web video look.
Which FCP effects are most useful for this?
On the one hand, I don't want to do effects just for the sake of doing effects, and distract from the message.
On the other hand, if it doesn't look interesting, the viewer isn't going to stick around for 30 seconds.
On the videoSellsYourMessage.com site, I've got a video on the Audio Visual tab with a race car background and sound effects along with text fade-ins and fade-outs.
Very simple and almost seems to work.
But, on the front page of that site, the abstract background just doesn't seem to cut it.
Besides needing to be re-shot with a less sleep deprived model, it's just lacking something (uh, like talent and creativity) - although the motion graphics & vocals at the end are maybe getting close?
Which FCP effects add to the message, rather than distract?
I'd love to see examples of what could be done with taking head commercial videos by a professionals using FCP.

Basically, Andy is right. Bottom line...content is king. If the message is humdrum, you're in for some real creative brainstorming.
There are so many ways to approach this challenge. What should drive your creative, is an understanding of the 'Brand' you're promoting.
Elements to consider:
Tone and Style
Color palette
Font selection
Pacing and edit flow.
What 'Promise' does the brand hold for the consumer?
Do you have access to corporate Broll or graphics that can help emphasize (sell) the message. That's the first thing I would look for. Use these to cut away from the straight up talking head.
Do you have the ability to create graphics or have someone on staff who can do this. If the corporation in question has a logo, graphics, website...you should use those elements to drive your creative choices...all chosen in order to re-inforce the 'Brand'.
Whizz-bang graphics, fast paced audio/visual cuts and vibrant colors might be great for the MTV generation, but if your product is geared towards 35-50 females, then you would tone things down. Or if the audience is 40 - 60 business types, you'd want visuals that projected confidence and stability...etc.
I don't think that answered your query, but (if you weren't already aware of the above blathering), I'm hopeful it will help guide you in your creative process.

After effects help & adobe air

i'm in the after effects cs5 application (creative suite production premium) on a power mac 10.5.8 and when i go to the help pull down and click on after effects help, i get the following error message:
don't even know what abobe air is. i'm assuming the after effects help has to run through this app. is this something i need to install and what does it do? i hate hate running unnecessary programs. thanks.

You can use After Effects Help without using the AIR application. You can either use the HTML version of After Effects Help on the Web or the PDF version of After Effects Help.

I can't see the Audio Waveforms in the timeline. No triangle button to click. Just switched from FCP. Help!?

When I click on the wrench or right click to customize the box, these are the options I'm given. I don't see waveform. I've edited in Adobe Audition for years, and see the waveform panels in all the Premiere Pro tutorials, am I missing something? (besides a brain?)

I think you meant but "not" on effects tab. Were you able to before? Try trashing your preference files. you can do this by hand or use the free program, Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion.

Help me with a FCP effect

Hi im having some trouble doing this "ghost in the mirror effect" I can do the effect but i see exactly where i cut the clips and i need to know how to do some kind of transition. I have included a video that i would like to make mine similar to any help would be great especially if you could fina a video tutorial on the net. I want to know how to do the blurry effect at 0.14 & 0.18

However, although I mis-read your post, the fact is: to pull off the trick you're now talking about requires the same thing I said before. You have to cut your man out of the background. Then, (at least in After Effects) you could apply a "wave" filter. (My 5-minute investment.) A filter like this is going to work on the edges of your image. So if your "image" just so happens to be a full screen video then the entire image is going to wiggle. Not what you want! You have to isolate the subject, i.e. cut him out to have the effect work the way you've seen & now linked us to. It's your call, but to me this new technique doesn't make the gimmick any better. It amplifies it. And it's no less work than what's been covered. But now I'm really focused on the "transition" and I plainly see that the monster-to-be image moves to the right when compared to the reflection image. It's a jump cut that the wave doesn't hide. Motion has a "wave" filter but I don't know much about it. Might generate the same results. Either way, if you go this route, you're roto-ing your man off the background.
Here's the bottom line: what you're going for is pretty complex. To nail it (seamlessly) requires that you are extremely precise. So pick your poison. You have to, as we've all said, nail it down in camera and walk away with a pretty simple job to do in your software. Or else plan to "fix it in post" and futz about with rotoscoping and transitions and effects, etc. Given you're a newbie with the post side and the FCP is pretty hindered as a compositor you've got some decisions to make. Where do you want to focus the time - a LOT of time. Where is your precision going to happen? Because it's got to happen somewhere.
And with all due respect, how many of the concepts, already suggested, have you taken a stab at? You haven't given us too much feedback to work with. Simply you have to commit to spending some serious time somewhere: either in the bathroom with the camera shooting over and over. And over. Or with the manuals, reading up on compositing, Motion, After Effects, masking, rotoscoping, whatever... Expecting to quickly pull this off in an editor (that is poorly suited for compositing) is asking a lot. Either shoot it right, come home with the footage "in the bag" or plan to spend an equal - if not more - amount of time trying to accomplish it with software that's new to you. And if that software is FCP then it's really not even the proper one for the job.
Sorry, I really don't mean to start sounding snarky here. But I think we've handed you some pretty spot-on advice at this point.

FCP Problem HELP!

Hi! I have a problem with my Final Cut Pro. I have FCP 5.1.1 and Quicktime 7.1.1.
Everytime I tried to export using quicktime conversion, FCP just quits unexpectedly. I tried to reinstalled it but the problem still persist. On the other hand, exporting it using Compressor just works fine.
Any ideas? It will highly be appreciated.

Trying to find termplates with drop zones for FCP 6 Help please.

I'm on FCS 2 (FCP6) and I'm looking for some templates that I can use to create a short video montage. I wold like to have images moving slowly around the screen with 'firework' effects going off around them. I've seen this done with a template but that was done on FCP 7. This would take the rest of my life to do manually so the question is are the kinds of templates WITH DROP ZONES available for use in FCP6? I've searched around but can only find templates for fonts, transitions and so on. Any help much appreciated.

I've just realised that the template I was looking for in FC is actually available in Motion and I'd failed to install it, so I'm sorted. If there is a source of free templates I'd be thrilled to find them.

Not able to inser transitions in fcp. Help!

Hi everyone,
I'm having a problem in FCP. Whenever I try to insert a transition between two clips it just gives me the little black x. I try to drag it out of the effects tab and into the timeline between two clips and normally it is supposed to highlight the area of insertion, but it doesn't do any of that. It just stays with the black mouse pointer and the small x under it. What is causing this? anyone please help!

Maybe FCP needs to take notes from it's infant son imovie.
No...if it did that it wouldn't be professional editing software. Total running time...show timing...is CRITICAL in the professional world. if FCP acted like iMovie, and pulled the clips closer together to allow the to have overlap and make the dissolve work, then that would mess with show timing and leave the editor pulling his/her hair out.
Instead, learn how to use this professional software properly. Or, if you like iMovie, use iMovie.
#1 Transitions "Insufficient Content"
Shane's Stock Answer #1: Trying to add a Transition and get the error "Insufficient Content"
A full 1 second cross fade reaches 15 frames into each clip. So, if you want to change a cut to a cross fade, there has to be at least 15 additional frames of each clip. Say you're trying to cross fade from one clip into the very first frame of a second clip. FCP cannot 'create' 15 more frames of the second clip to do a cross fade. If they're not there, you're out of luck.
What you are running into is that you are marking an out point at the far edges of a clip then adding a cross dissolve, say 30 frames (one second) in duration. Since the dissolve is centered on the cut, it will start 15 frames before the cut, and try to go 15 frames AFTER the cut...which it can't do. What you need to do is plan how long your dissolve will be and back-time your cut so that it works.
You need to make sure that your clips have enough media (called 'handles') at the beginning of the incoming clip and at the end of the outgoing clip for the transition. For example, if you have a 1 second (30 frame) dissolve, your in and out point need to be at least 15 frames from the edge of the clip.

I want to do an effect on final cut studio where you may have seen in some films where 1 man in the middle is walking normal pace and the people around are walking fast around him....does anyone have any idea? be very helpful please

The short answer is:
There is way too much involved in this effect than can be achieved using Final Cut Pro alone. Since this is a FCP forum, you won't get definitive answer.
The long answer is:
Look at the answers you have already received, and pick the one that you think you can realistically do. Personally, I like the teaching your actor to walk really slow. But you'll have to find a person who has incredible physical control. Film that person walking normally with the camera overcranked. (Don't use FCP slow-mo, it won't look the same. You need the fluidity of overcranking for this.) Then, play back the footage for the actor at regular speed. The actor will have to practice making his slow walk look just like the slow-mo footage. Then, shoot the final product with undercranking, have the actor walk properly slow, and play back at normal speed.
In time lapse photography, if you want to get the streaking of car lights with a person standing in perfect focus, that person has to be able to stand PERFECTLY still for the duration of the exposure. The idea is similar, in respect to the amount of body control your subject must possess.
You could also do this with incredible rotoscoping skills, but that would take infinitely longer, I think. I strongly discourage using a green screen effect unless you are very good with green screen effects. I guarantee, if you don't do incredibly accurate math and measurements, regarding how far the camera is from your subject, what the focal point is, where the focus is on your long shot, making sure your studio setting is perfectly matched for the lighting of your exterior shot, if there is any movement with the camera it has to be EXACTLY the same in speed and distance traveled... you get the idea...
There is a reason it costs millions of dollars to have good special effects. It's hard.

City-Slicker translation: You'll have to do it manually as a Motion sequence. There are a handful of fire plug-ins and templates for a fire-type effect, but nothing that will automatically replicate that "map burning" effect you're after. It's most definitely a highly-skilled operation to accomplish and most editors would hire an After Effects specialist to create it.
The low-tech and easier way to do (although it won't look as good) would be to get a map, literally burn it in front of green screen (preferably outside since most studios won't allow a real fire inside) and key the sequence in FCP. Yipee-ki-yay.

Unable to capture in FCP 6, HELP!

Trying to capture dvx100 footage using FCP 6(studio2) with no luck.
When initiating log and capture, I can control my camera via FW, but preview is disabled as well as
ability to capture footage.
I have tried deleting pref's, deleting QT prefs, triple checked settings (NTSC DV), tried variations of
turning camera off/on during opening of FCP as well as using alternate ports.
I'm at a loss. Can anyone help!!?!?!

I do not have anything else connected to the firewire ports. I have an external hard drive, but I have tried to capture with and without the hard drive attached. I did recently back up using Carbon Copy Cloner to another hard drive, if anyone thinks this may be the issue.
I can't recall the exact error message in FCP (I have deleted the program trying to fix the issue, and focus on the capture problem in Quicktime thinking that if Quicktime and iMovie both don't capture, that the problem is not with FCP, but either with the OS or the back end of QT) I can re-install FCP to give you the exact FCP error message if you would like me too. Ie, if the exact error message is necessary.

Simple button rollover effect help needed - please help!

Hi everyone,
I was hoping someone could tell me how was this rollover
effect done - can be seen on the small map on the right:

What I want to do is to be able to have the same effect on
rollover and rollout just reversed (fade in - fade out).

It's such a minor little detail. I suspected it would be
something this small, as that's usually the case, but I just
couldn't put my finger on it. Not one of the places I researched
made any reference to that when they said to name the instance of
the button. How stupid.
