When i export to codec XDCAM EX 1080i50 VBR it seems everything works fine but when i go to desktop/folder where i have exported the video it does not play. also does not show the video thumbnail as usual but just shows a file/icon.
Quick time does not play it at all?

  • FCP export to XDCAM HD (PDW-F70)

I am having an issue exporting my FCP sequence to my PDW-F70 xdcam hd deck. I am getting a failed export alarm , "record inhibit on", but record inhibit is OFF on both the disk and the deck.
I can see the disk in the finder but it comes up as read onlyy.
How do i make the disk writeable?

you might be misreading this. the top level of the discs directory is always read only as it should be, but you should check other directories, such as CLIP and GENERAL are are not
if you export your edit to the desktop as an MXF file (using the XDT software) you should then be able to drag and drop it directly to the CLIP folder

  • Exporting 1080 xdcam ex

    Hi
I set my sequence settings to 1080 xdcam ex and now when i go to export from FCP they do not have the option of xdcam ex to export from. Only 1080 HD xdcam
I create a custom setting for compressor of 1080 xd cam ex , square, full hd, and the exporting process says it is going to take 3 hours? My clip is only 4 minutes.. ??
I used this setting for the whole wedding and this is just the trailer what the heck how long will it take to export 2.5 hours?
So if you would please provide any possible solutions for the problem?

    Alright Sequence Settins are: 1920 x 1080 HDTV 1080i (16:9)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
    Field Dominance: None
    29.97
Quicktime video settings XDCAM EX 1080p30
    Rate 48 KHZ
    16-BIT
THIS IS WHAT MY sequence is and rendered at. I am trying to EXPORT this using the current settings BUT what happens is:
When I go to export using quicktime movie it shows it needs 3 hours to export.. because it is re-rendering everyhting??
If i got to FINAL CUT PRO and go to Audio/Video settings my sequence Preset is: XDCAM HD 1080p30 VBR
WHich is differerent then that of the format I had used. Remember i used XDCAM EX
There is no option to change that setting in AUDIO VIDEO SETTINGS to XDCAM EX 1080 30
    ANY SUGGESTIONS!!????

  • Is Compressor as good as FCP export?

If I select Best Quality 4:3 90 Minutes
how do I tweak it further
    and/or is this akin to
Final Cut's ability to export MPEG-2
with 2-Pass VBR, 7.5 + Mbps, Best Motion Quality
option that seems to have been discontinued?
    thanks

    Hey Evan,
from my calulations, you would need to encode your 90 min. movie at an average rate of 6.3 Mbps to fit on a dvd-5 (and thats assuming you are using .ac3 for audio @ 192 [stereo]).
but to answer your question, i would much rather use compressor than the export option in FCP, although technically it does use the compressor engine because of the control you have in compressor over FCP export.
think of it like using iMovies for editing vs. FCP.

  • FCP export settings for import in iMovie '08

Q: What QT/ Compressor export settings do I need to use in FCP in order to be able to import the MOV file in iLife '08?
The reason for using iLife '08 is solely for sharing the movie to dotMac.
(if you know alternatives bypassing iMovie '08 ... be my guest).
    Background:
I create my footage with a Sony HDR-HC7.
I capture the footage on my Macs (G5 and MBP) via FCP.
I edit my sequence in FCP using the HDV sequence presets
I output using FCP export to Quicktime. MOV file has HDV properties.
Funny: the captured MOV file with HDV properties can be read by iMovie '08 , the edited sequence with exactly the same HDV properties can not be read by iMovie '08 .
I tried a Compressor conversion to:
    - Apple preset iTV --> no import
    - Apple preset iPod video --> no import
    - Apple preset m2v and m4v --> both no import
    - Apple preset mp4 --> no import
iLife help mentiones that it accepts DV, mp4 and some MOV formats.
Q: what is the list of "some"
    Please help.

Q: What QT/ Compressor export settings do I need to use in FCP in order to be able to import the MOV file in iLife '08?
Don't have FCP v5/6 but with older FCP/FCE usually use AIC for crossover in MOV file container.
iLife help mentiones that it accepts DV, mp4 and some MOV formats.
Q: what is the list of "some"
I have personally used DV, AIC, MJPEG, MPEG4, H.264 and i believe Photo-JPEG with which another individual indicated he was having problems. As to audio for these files, usually use DV, Linear PCM ("Big Endian" Integer), AAC, or even uncompressed. Avoid Apple Animation and Apple Video compression formats which will import/edit but will not correctly export. However, be advised that there are some caveats. E.g., a "Large or Full" slideshow export from iPhoto places the MPEG4/AAC data in an MOV file container which iMovie '08 will not import. However, if you use the MPEG Streamclip "Save As..." File menu option to save the same data in an MP4 file container. Therefore, would say that some problems here may be associated with iMovie '08 "pre-scanning" of files and possible minor bugs in proper error trapping on compression formats vs file containers.

  • FCP export of rendered seq: some 'offline media' warnings in exported file

    Hi,
We had an issue last weekend with a file that was exported from FCP:
    - sequence was fully rendered in FCP
    - export Quicktime movie (not a QTref)
    - the exported file had an almost 1minute red 'media offline' warning in the middle of the file
    - when we checked the sequence again at that sport, all the media was still there and all was fully rendered
    - we did another export and all was fine ...
Anyone that had has this issue ?

Not particularly, but have you tried trashing all renders, then re-rendering?
It's possible the sequence was seeing a render file (but not connecting to it on export), when in actuality the clip/media is in fact off-line.
Give it a shot if you haven't and let us know.
Might also fill us in on details about your system and media you're working with.

  • FCP export to "QuickTime Movie" distorts aspect ratio of all text, displays video correctly.

    Hi you all,
My name is Alexander, I'm from Belgium.
I'm working on Final Cut Pro 6.0.6, on a MacBook Pro with a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, running version 10.7.2 of Mac OS X (Lion).
I'm editing a 'making of' of a Flemish feature film. I shot this 35 minute documentary short with my own Canon HDV-camcorder (XH-A1). The Final Cut Pro-project is stored on an external hard drive (1 TB LaCie Minimus).
I've been doing exports to "QuickTime Movie" for years now, without any problems, but since a week or two, FCP started messing up the titles over the video - and the titles only. Their aspect ratio is messed up once exported, but they look just fine in the FCP Timeline (in Viewer, I can verify that the aspect ratio of the titles is always "0"). I'm trying to export this to "HDV - 720p25".
Here's a comparison between the two:
As you can see: the MOV has the titles' aspect ratio all weird, the upper one partly covering the lower one. All titles and text in the docu come out like this, but the video (and audio) is exported correctly.
Any ideas on how to solve this very annoying problem?
    Many thanks!!
    Alexander

    Hi Studio X,
Thank you for your quick reply.
The producers of the film want to upload this making of-documentary on YouTube. Therefore, I need to give them a high-quality-mov with the least possible Megabites. My film has a 35 minute running time.
So I figured: Let's start with the 'smallest' high-quality FCP-export to begin with (HDV-720p25), and throw that one in Compressor, in order to end up with a 'small' but good looking H.264-MOV for YouTube.
But for some reason, those "HDV-720p25"-exports mess up the titles. And I can't figure out why.

  • FCP Export to Dropbox gives "cannot open in QT Player Document"

What can I do to convert my FCP Export for it to be other than Quick Time Player Document format?  I tried Streamclip QT, Streamclip mpeg 4, same message from Dropbox: cannot open files in the QT Player format".  This is an emergency.  I'd appreciate any suggestion.  Many thanks

That's precisely what I do:  drop the .mov file into the sharing folder I created inside the Dropbox folder which is in the FAVORITES column on the left in the hard drive window.  It copied the file, but it doesn't show to the person Ii want to share it with.  And it doesn't show a Blue or Green icon to say if it synched up with the computer. Do  you have any idea of what's going on?  Many thanks.

  • Captured on the DVX-100 what happens when I export it to HDV-1080i50

I Captured footage on the DVX-100, what happens when I export it to HDV-1080i50.
    Is it then considered HD?

The short answer is "yes, BUT…"
DVX-100 is a DV camera, thus it only captures DV. You can export your DV sequence to whatever format you desire, like HDV (a consumer-level version of HD), but that doesn't mean it will look as good as footage natively shot in HD. You gain no quality at all, in fact you lose quality due to scaling the footage up from the DV to HDV framesize. There are workflows for upconverting your DV footage to HDV or HD posted all over this forum and elsewhere on the Net. A quick search should give you some insight into the process.

  • Suddenly bad FCP exports...is it the codec?

Hi everyone. I'm on a work G5, so the specs below do not apply to the system I am on right now.
FCP is updated to 5.1.4 on here.
I've been making regular FCP exports everyday and as "Current Settings" and unselected "Make Movie Self-Contained". One day it just gives me bad exports to where the beginning and end are normal, but the middle is bad. It looks like it's stuck on a few frames and flashes. Is this the codec? Either way, any advice?
    Thank you!

Hard to tell what's going on without seeing the footage.  Progressive footage will have a slightly jerkier (is that a word?) look than interlaced footage particularly in horizontal movement.  That may be what's happening.
Make sure that your field dominance is set to none through out your workflow.
Also, how are you monitoring in fcp?  If you're viewing on a video monitor via a card like the aja or blackmagic, and you're not seeing the problem, then there's probably something wrong in your export process.
If you have a short shot you can send me in the original format where the problem is noticeable I'll take a quck look.  My email is in my profile.

  • HDV video is 1080i60, FCP exports as 1080i50?

Exporting my 1080i60 project using the FCP basic "qucktime export" shows up as a 1080i50 file when played in QT. Also encodes to a PAL DVD format when using Compressor. The "easy setup" menu shows the proj as 1080i60.
Edit: I also checked the imported HDV video in QT and the "Item Properties" for FCP. They both show up as 1080i60. The camera I am using is a HDR HC1 1080i60.

go to the compressor type column in the browser and compare your footage and sequence settings. make sure they all match.

  • Fcp export mpeg2

    Hi! need some help.
Buyed the new G5 quad with 3.5 gb ram mac osX 10.4.8
I was Really happy to noticed the difference from exporting in a G5 1.5 single processor -- to this super jet computer.... 1 hour takes 3 hours and now 45 minutes aprox.
    But....
Since I updated to fcp 5.0.4, I noticed I cannot export anymore directly from fcp to MPEG 2. So now I am using export-using compressor-
But now with THE SAME parameters - double pass max 7.0 min 6.0
the time I used to wait for an hour video was 45 minutes to 55, but now using compressor I have to wait about 2.5 hours or more...
the quality of the final result is the same as I used to have exporting directly from fcp.
Still don´t know what I am doing wrong... or is it that is normal using compressor??
    Any idea???
    thanks for reading.

Try the single pass. 2 pass VBR in compressor has been reported to be troublesome.

  • What earliest version of FCP will handle XDCAM EX?

A client is wanting to work with footage I've just shot ... the footage is XDCAM EX ... the client has FCP 6.06.  I have whatever the latest FCP is so I don't know if ver. 6.06 will handle the XDCAM-EX.  If it does I can just send him the .mov files burned to DVD and he's on his way.
If the ver. 6.06 doesn't handle the XDCAM-EX I'm wondering what might be the best codec to convert everything to before sending it?  What codec his 6.06 could cut comfortably (as close to XDCAM as possible)?
    All ears,
    Ben

    Just FYI:
Support for XDCAM EX CBR codecs was inherent in FCP since version 5 and augmented in releases 5.1.2 and 5.1.4 (basically we're talking about the Apple HDV codec bundle here).
Support for XDCAM EX VBR codecs was introduced in FCP 6.0.2
Regarding import methods, you can use the free Sony XDCAM EX Log and Transfer plugin for FCP to allow you to use FCP's built in tapeless media ingest system ... but that is (apparently) flawed as it doesn't allow you to really do anything with FCP whilst it is doing its thing, you have to mark up your clips in L&T, set them to import, and then walk away till its done ... to my mind, that blows much of the advantage of a tapeless workflow out the water.  Instead you can use the free Sony XDCAM Transfer application. This allows you to log and transfer your clips to FCP in it's standalone interface ... you can mark up a clip or clips, press import, and those clips are then imported in the background whilst you continue to work in XDCAM Transfer and/or edit in FCP without issue. Or there is a newer tool from Sony called XDCAM Browser (aka XDB)  - this is not Sony's EX Clip Browser app, thats a different app meant for managing you original EX footage (good for making verified copies of your camera originals) but its not for making QT files. XDB is Sony's new unified app approach, combining the functions of Clip Browser and XDCAM Transfer in a single app, but presently does not allow for background importing whilst continuing to work in the app itself (ie its modal, but you can still work in FCP tho as thats a separate app). I'd personally tend to continue to recommend using XDCAM Transfer 2.12 for best functionality at this time, or the Log and Transfer plugin if you don't mind the current limitations inherent in FCP's Log and Transfer interface
    Hope it helps
    Andy

  • Exporting to XDCam

    Hey guys,
I'm working in CS5 v5.0.3 (on my Windows 7 Dell Vostro 1520) to edit a project that must be put on a new Omneon server. It must come out in a specific format with a specific codec which I'm having trouble finding.
    My requirements are as follows:
    -Frame Size: HD 1440x1080 (16:9)
    -Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD 1440x1080
    -Compressor: XDCAM HD 1080i60 (35Mbps)
The file (as far as I have been told) has to be an MOV file. I am going to go try an MXF file when I get to the studio at 1pm today and will update if that works.
My friend lent me her iMac for a few hours yesterday and I managed to export an AE Comp that I had with those settings, however I don't seem to understand why I cannot get these output settings. I got a trial version of MainConcept Codec Suite 5 Pro to see if that would solve anything (Adobe says it can handle XDCam exports here: http://www.adobe.com/products/plugins/premiere/), but I still couldn't get the option that I need. I tried checking out my own copy of AE, but I didn't have the export options there either. I thought I could export my project in Premiere, drag it into AE, and export it with the codec in AE...
I confirmed on Wikipedia that v5.0.3 should have "Support for XD-CAM HD export" as of v5.0.2, but I can't seem to find any option for XDCam anywhere.
Is anyone familiar with this format? Is there a converter out there that can convert to these settings and make it an MOV?
UPDATE: I just found this preset: http://i.imgur.com/p9Ijg.jpg     but the problem is that it is still an MXF file... Is there any way to make it MOV?
    Message was edited by: joefuf

    http://www.omneon.com/solutions/shared-editing.php
^^ According to the Omneon website, they can also ingest MXF files natively. The MOV conversion I was looking for was a rewrapping that FCP does on its own. I'm all set. Looks like i got one-up on my teacher now haha.

  • FCP "Export - QuickTime Movie" gamma shift

Above is an example of what happens when I do a direct export in Final Cut Pro, using the Export -> QuickTime Movie function.  As you can see, the image is significantly brighter and the colors are a little more washed out (this image isn't particularly colorful, but trust me, it washes them out).  I always thought the Export -> QuickTime Movie meant the image would not be compressed--that it was a straight export using the sequence settings.
The image you see above was shot natively in ProRes 422 (HQ) using an Arriflex Alexa.  It has never been transcoded.  The bottom image is what it looks like using Export -> QuickTime Movie.  Totally unacceptable for a piece of professional software, if you ask me.
I can't express how infuriating this is, to have everything looking perfect in FCP and then exporting only to have it look like garbage.  I've been able to play with gamma correction a bit and have gotten it PRETTY close to the original look, but this seems like a horrible workaround.
Anyone else know why this is happening?  Is there a fix for this?
I'm working with FCP 6.0.6 and QuickTime 10.1.

    Sure thing, Meg.
Here's a source clip with "approximate" gamma correction:
"Approximate" gamma correction makes the image look flatter within Final Cut Pro than it actually is.
Now, the very same clip and frame, but with gamma set to "Accurate" :
Now, things are switched.  The exported image looks flatter than the source clip within FCP.
Here's another tidbit of info--the frame from my first post was professionally color graded and exported as a self-contained movie--so there were no filters, FCP or otherwise, being applied there.  But the difference is just night-and-day to me.
