FCP/FCE Comparison Chart

Is there a Final Cut Pro / Final Cut Express comparison chart posted anywhere on the web? Apple had one several years back and I can't seem to find that anymore.

I have FCP4 on an old PowerMac, ... I was looking to install Final Cut on a new machine (Either Express or Pro). But I don't want to purchase FCE if there are missing functions that will drive me crazy.
If you own a legitimate copy of FCP 4 you can upgrade to the entire Final Cut Studio suite for $299.99 (USD).

  • Acrobat 7.0: Standard vs Pro versions comparison chart?

Can anyone provide a link to the old chart of a side-by-side comparison of features offered by Acrobat
    b 7.0
    Standard vs. Professional?
My company has licenses for both; I need to see what features only Pro offers in order to justify my getting upgraded to Pro. Naturally, Adobe's current website is dominated by v. 9.0, but I'm sure that the old comparison chart of 7.0's features is still posted (ie, buried) somewhere. Can anyone help with a link? Thanks much.

  • FCP/FCE anamorphic to iDVD - A simple solution?

I posted this over in the iDVD forum, but I would like to get some response from you guys on this matter too.
I have seen a lot of discussions about how hard it is to get anamorphic material from FCP/FCE into iDVD. There seem to be a few complex workarounds using third party software etc.
Today I suddenly came to think about a possible very simple solution.
    1. Export to QuickTime from FCP/FCE
    2. Open the clip in QuickTime Pro
    3. Choose the Window menu and choose Show Movie Properties
    4. Select the Video Track and click the Visual Settings tab
    5. Uncheck Preserve Aspect Ratio
    6. Change the width to 854 (DV-NTSC) or to 1024 (DV-PAL)
    7. Save the clip and quit QuickTime
    8. Open iDVD and start a new 16:9 Widescreen project
    9. Import your modified QuickTime clip
    10. Author and burn your DVD
Is it really this easy? Are there any downsides to doing it this way?
I just tested this workflow, and the finished DVD looked fine.
I prefer using Compressor/DVD Studio Pro my self, but it would be nice to have a simple solution to offer those who ask about bringing anamorphic material from FCP/FCE into iDVD.
I wonder why Apple has not implemented an anamorphic checkbox or something like that inside iDVD. I have not yet found any guidance from Apple on this matter. Have I missed something here?

I gave the usual dimensions for Standard Definition DV Anamorphic as an example. The actual dimensions for DV Anamorphic NTSC and PAL are: 720x480 and 720x576, but when stretched, the right width is 854 and 1024 as mentioned in my first post. The dimentions you are mentioning are for High Definition 1080i/p
If you are editing 720p, the dimentions are: 1280 × 720.

    Hi,

  • Creating a Product Comparison Chart

    Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about where I could find resourses/tutorials on how to create product comparison charts for a website?  I have some very basic knowledge of php and MySQL so is this something I could learn on my own or should I download some kind of plugin for it?
    Thank you!

Why not use a table the way Adobe did for this Product Comparison Chart?

  • Directory server 6.2 vs 5.2 comparison chart

    Hi Folks,
Is there any comparison chart that depicts the features in LDAP version 6.2 vs LDAP version 5.2 available? I searched in SUN documentation, there is no useful links. If any one has come across with such a chart or the document please help.

Surely there is some sales bumpf which shows the comparison between DS 5.2 and 6.2 ?
After all, WHY should we move from 5.2 to 6.2 if there is little or no incentive.
I would have thought a comparison chart would be a reasonable sales tool but then when has SUN ever been reasonable.

  • Logic Express 8 and Logic Studio Comparison chart

Does anyone know if Apple have released a comparison chart for Logic pro 8 and express 8? I know the main differences but I would like to see them on a chart.
    Any ideas?

    *Ur Query*
The Compression you are inquiring about is an app called Compressor which used to be bundled with DVD Pro. This app which is now happily nesting within the Logic Studio app is used to compress your audio files via using different codex from Quicktime. In so doing it makes your audio & Visuals ready for a large selection of pro delivery formats I.e for the web and for DVD etc.
    *Apples direction*
What Apple in its infinite wisdom did with Logic studio, was to look at it current Pro App Audio visual suite, FinalCut Pro, Soundtrack Pro, DVD Pro & Logic and started to stream line them. So everything pertaining to Audio in these other apps was transferred over to the Logic app which makes sense if you look at the bigger picture. This left Final Cut Pro and DvD Pro which have been brought together under the guise of FinalCut Studio here everything is housed pertaining to the Visual side of things.
    Summery
So what you now have is a greatly slim-lined Pro App product line. The future is to have these as a clear brand which will provide the professional Multimedia business with a one stop solution to their audio visual needs.

  • Thinkpad Comparison Chart

Does anyone know where I can find an all-encompassing Thinkpad comparison chart to compare the various models?  For my use, I always bought a T-series because these seemed to be the higher end model.  Now, how do they compare...the T400, T500, and the G-series, and the R-Series?  I'd like to see a chart comparing the processor, min/max RAM, min/max HDD, wireless, ports (in particular, I was interested in the G550 that had the HDMI port, but it looks like most of the G-series do not have the track pointer in the middle of the keyboard which I like because I'm not fond of the touchpads).

This appears to be reasonably current:

    Hello,
You can find the Project Professional 2013 vs. Project Online / PWA comparison at

  • FCP & FCE Resolution

    Hello
I want to know what differences in quality(resolution) between FCP and FCE
    Thank You
    Adolfo

FCE supports DV, HDV and AVCHD fixed resolution video only.
DV can be captured as DV-NTSC/29.97fps or DV-PAL/25fps
HDV and AVCHD are transcoded to Apple Intermediate Codec during capture/ingest.
HDV and AVCHD are supported at 720p30, 1080i50 and 1080i60.
Using DV or Apple Intermediate Codec, you are unlikely to see any qualitative differences between FCE and FCP.
FCP, however, supports many more codecs/frame rates/resolutions.

  • FCP FCE interface

I own FCE 3.5.1 and I want to edit a project between my computer and another computer that has FCP 5
Will that interface? How would it work?
    Thanks

I don't have a definite answer but consider this: If you had a project on one computer that was running FCP 6, it wouldn't even work on another computer that has FCP 5. To take it a step further, if you have a project created in FCP 5, it'll ask you to convert it to a FCP 6 project and once you do that, you can't get the project back to FCP 5 to take back to the other computer. You have to stick with the same version. This leads me to believe that you probably cannot do that. I've never tried with FCE before though.

  • Backwards compatibility: FCP/FCE

Hi, I'm brand new here, hope I get this right...
I created a project in FCE 3.5, with extension .fcp. I needed to use the Export to create the .omf files so Pro Tools could finish the sound. I figured I could open the project in FCP (not sure the version, it was new two years ago), then do the export. All media necessary was in a folder on an external usb hard drive, that FCE could deal with problem-free. The clip files are all .avi.
But when I tried to open the project in FCP, I got an error message that the files were of a version too new for FCP. The message instructed me to make a copy using Media Manager, then proceed.
I did that, and created a test file from the first clip in the listed in the bin --> it generated "test1.fcp". There are a total of about 150 clips in the bin, and this one took about 5 minutes to generate.
When I tried to open "test1.fcp" using FCE, I got an error saying that the file had been created using an app too old for FCE.
Am I banging my head against the wall trying to open a FCE project in FCP, or is the message accurate in saying that there's a version mis-match?
Did I do the right thing by using FCP Media Manager to convert the .avi clip to a .fcp file?

You have two problems that are fighting each other, as you've guessed. FCE3.5 is based on FCP5.1 and your version of FCP pre-dates that, so it cannot open the FCE file.
Your media manager solution is going to be painful because AVI is such a horrible format to work with. It's really ancient and will take a huge amount of time to fix by rebuilding every shot. You may be better off simply exporting the tracks from FCE, one track at a time, with 2-pop before and after the program, and take the exported stems to ProTools.

  • FCP Keyboard Layout Chart?

Does anyone know if there's a website where I can print out a small sheet of the keyboard shortcuts for FCP? We had little charts with a keyboard and symbols on them for Avid in my editing labs at school, but I'm looking for one in Final Cut to put on my desk at home.
    Thanks.
